He told republican donors the President Biden is running a quote, Gestapo Administration and quote, while falsely claiming that the white house is behind all of his criminal prosecutions this is of course not the first time that trump has used Nazi Rhetoric and the campaign and the biden team wasted little time in responding. Well, this is how donald trump talks about many things and i think its just contributing to a whole culture right now of the kind of way were treating each other. A culture of pate, a cultural pettiness against each other. And im very concerned about what is happening in our communities and people being pitted against each other. And i do believe that former President Trump fans the flames of it. Elliot williams, when you use a phrase like gestapo tactics, lets just be clear about what were really talking about. Yeah. Well, whats really interesting is that across america, look, go through these newspapers that are sitting here right now, antisemitism is on the rise in the country. There are documented acts hi, and if not, if not actual physical violence harm against jews when you use terms like gestapo tactics, even casually calling back to the holocaust i think number one, ill probably bring back very painful memories for many people and their families, but also to using the kind of rhetoric that the congresswoman talked about here that really billy has very little place even as metaphor in a civil society. Its just, its just, theres just no place for it. But again, were yesterday on the internet on twitter i think idiot and liar. Were trending terms, right . And i just think its indicative of the point that she was making, which is that words words matter and one ought not use terms like to stop full stop. Yeah. I think in many respects x in the back of your mind, youve got to remember that there is a money deficit among his campaign and democrats, so i think some of this word uses somewhat intentional, whether its for small dollar donors or like you saw in the room to try and think like normal, like when you say smalldollar donors were talking about people you sent emails to exactly what theyre going to go for talking about the gestapo. I think i think you have to remember that what animates these folks is that pat sort of language like that very us against them language and whether theyre high dollar donors in the room or low dollar donors, theres, there is a somewhat of in his mind a purpose behind this sort of thing. Look, i dont know about that, but what i think is what was surprising to me kinda being on the road for the last year with him was in many respects, that is where the party is at. That is in were many of the grassroots republicans are at large part. And so im not surprised, i dont in any way, think that its calling for Political Violence. But i also think in fairness though two, hes not going to, hes going to hes going to stick to what he wanted to say and wasnt going to be swayed either went by christies that might be where certain primary voters are, but that is a staggering display of cowardice from the sitting senator that he cant say. I will support the next president of the United States or, well, well accept the pardon me, will accept the results of the next election. Its just remarkable that maybe we can analogize this to the disk weve taught this course point we were making earlier that weve sunk so low as a nation that we cant have a major party and folks who might be the next Vice President , look at a camera and say, i will result the lag. I will accept the results of a free and Fair Election heres reality. My friends, the strength of our democracy is that you sleep, you have confidence that the elections are held fair. Its clearly, you believe in the outcome. We are now moving closer to what we see in other governments were democracies of toppled, where you have dictators when people say i wont, if i, if i dont win, were going to overthrow the government i mean, its not, im not saying that kim scott saying that, but he wont is to say that hell accept the results of the election january 6 was a precursor to what we really could be seen in this next election. And it should scare all of us. People need to have confidence in their democracy, in their electoral process. And that what comes out on election day well be honest and will be accepted by all the people. Shes a unique figure in troubled in many ways. She predated him coming out of the campaigns were for ivanka trump previously and shes someone who has not sold out. Jean write a book. Shes not he doesnt have a Cable Contract Sheet after the white house after all that stuff had happened, shes kind of went back and is kind of working in the private sector now. And she has a lot of kind of inside knowledge, especially those early days on the campaign. So no matter what she was going to say he was going to be a very compelling testimony, very unique than someone say like Michael Cohen. Now that the testimony is very compelling, lets put up what she had to say that this was at the very end of her questioning by prosecutors. So the prosecutors asked, did mr. Trumps say anything else about this issue when he told you that michael made the payment, did he say anything about the timing of the News Reporting regarding oh, hope says he yes, he wanted to know he trump how it was playing. And my thoughts and opinion about this story versus having the story a different kind of story before the campaign had michael not made that payment . And i think mr. Trumps opinion was it was better to be dealing with it now. And that it would have been bad to have that story come out before the election. Can so heres one of the things thats interesting. I hope hicks, she also though, has a lawyer that is not paid by donald trump. So she clearly knew that in order to be free to tell the truth, it would be in her own best interests, rhombus legal interests. You have to imagine shes been watching others who have maybe not had such a great fate when theyve tied their fate directly to trump so i thought that was an interesting point. Its been, ill tell you having been on the other side of it in 2016 its been very interesting to watch because again, the barrage, if we heard the testimony about how david pecker it wasnt jail with during the primary and during the general election, the attacks on hillary, the attacks on any of his opponents you sort of knew it at the time. What was going on, but there was no proof. So to hear this play out in court, at this moment is its troubling actually, because to be honest, i mean, think about those last days of the campaign, and i know weve talked about this quite a bit. If it had come out, it would have impacted the election because we all know that his wife is, the one who saved them after that access Hollywood Tape came out, right . It was very we were all watching to see what is she going to say and when shes a well, its just boys locker room talk then with the Permission Structure that female voters needed, that a lot of people needed, yeah i you its wonderful to have you here the next up potential witnesses we have Michael Cohen weve Stormy Daniels and also potentially karen mcdougal. So were still waiting to see who prosecutors are going to call. I mean, what are you watching for as a Stormy Daniels takes the stand potentially or Michael Cohen, particularly as it relates to whether or not this trial is going to break through with voters i mean, i think that when you have someone like Michael Cohen, i think is obviously a complicated character to say the people i dont, know if he will break through. I think Stormy Daniels like im going i think she could be make a very compelling case. What i would be interested in though, is trumps reaction because i feel like that is what could actually be the thing like, especially with Stormy Daniels, because hes had such horrible things to say about her he clearly gets so worked up when he sees someone especially, lets be real women talking about him in a certain way. You could see him coming out and saying some very nasty things. And i think that at times will remind women voters of the things that are the problems that they we have with donald trump at time, if he does that, he certainly gonna be violating bank gag order he doesnt always follow the rules i dont think about now all right. And theres been Tens Of Thousands of israelis protesting in the streets for a hostage release deal. So what would be most positive about this is that therell be a more than 40 days ceasefire. It would allow for the distribution of badly needed humanitarian aid to confront the Famine Conditions in the north of gaza. And it would begin the steps towards a Regional Peace something many of us have worked hard on, that would move forward. But when that free speech borders over into violence and intimate mediation, when students can go to campus, classes are participate in graduation without physical violence, without threats and intimidation. That thats wrong. And so many have spoken out about it. I think thats the right balance to strike in a country thats committed to free speech and where there were protests on many campuses that were peaceful. But in recent days, weve seen in a few cases those protests become violent and interfere with schooling and education frankly, in some cases, acquiring school administrations, College Administrations to call in local Police Forces senator, do you think that reality of whats going on, the pictures, the way its unfolding does that help Donald Trumps election chances in the fall . A, look, there is a sharp contrast between what donald trump says every day about his willingness to respect the election, how he views the january 6 riot that storm the capital.
