I think our schools are considering closing. I feel that the president s comments are insensitive, saying he has it under control when we already have 300 people that are dead. Whether it is one or two people, i think it is insensitive. Host what do you do in Public Education . Are you a teacher . Caller yes. Host do you think schools should be closed . Caller we have been given information to be proactive and encouraging parents to keep kids home from school and encouraging Staff Members to stay home from school and avoiding crowded areas. His commentshat are very insensitive. People have lost their lives. Host at what point do you think schools should close . Several schools around the country are starting that closure process. There are anyk if cases in any county, schools should be closed. They should be disinfected to alleviate things. They can spread very quickly, especially with Elementary School Children Wear diseases and things passed each and every day. Therek any county where are cases, schools should be closed. We made the difficult decision on friday, still very emotional to cancel our meeting the first week in april. I do not hear a lot about how the Hospitality Industry are impacted by this. We deal with thousands of vendor partners. Just the scientific discourse that is being lost in all of this. I know that some of our vendor partners are going out of business. I think a lot of the hoarding was meeting planners trying to get supplies to keep our us safe. Host you said it was particularly emotional. Can you talk about what that was like in the meeting . All of last week, i got six hours of sleep total. Im constantly watching the news and trying to figure out is it panic . How are we going to keep our people safe . Planners host are you still with us . Caller im here. Sorry. Im in a rural environment. Very emotional. I just question why the World Health Organization is not calling it a pandemic because that would kick in a lot of loss mitigation protection. Host in what way . What would kick in . Caller cancellation insurance covering communicable diseases, it has to be labeled a pandemic before your policy will identify communicablerable disease issue. Host do you think we are going to get to that point . Caller i do. I think it is inevitable. There are so many facets to this issue that it is easy for me to be angry at world health for not labeling it soon enough, but i know it impacts a lot of things. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the Hospitality Industry. Associations rely on annual meetings to pay salary. Have already seen scores and scores of about planners getting laid off event planners getting laid off because there is no more money anymore. It is a huge impact on the economy. Host thank you for the call. Canceling meetings, another issue that has come up amid the response is this idea of social distancing, avoiding large gatherings. One of the faces of the response amid the coronavirus was on meet the press yesterday. He talked about this issue of social distancing. [video clip] do we need to prepare for a spike . It will be here for a while but in a lowlevel way . What is success going to look like . Try and prevent the actual spread. The kinds of travel restrictions that we impose and the airlines impose upon themselves to take a look at what you have. Withu can do containment contact tracing, you dont want to give it up. Also seriously looking at this kind of mitigation. Distancing, social but it is common sense stuff. You dont want to go to a massive gathering, particularly if you are a vulnerable individual. Are we talking Church Services . Is that your recommendation . It depends on who you are. If you are a vulnerable person, take it seriously. When you have Community Spread, you may not know at any given time that there are people that are infected. What about sporting events . These may seem superficial to some people, but part of the economic engine and health issues, what would you do . If we continue to see the Community Spread go up, you need to seriously look at anything that is a large gathering. Particularly if you are an individual who has an underlying condition and are vulnerable. Asking you about the Coronavirus Impact in your community. You heard chuck todd asked about Church Services. This is a story on that front from todays usa today. Hand sanitizer replaces holy water in some spots. Throughout washington, d. C. , the diocese urging churches to take precautionary measures. To refrain from sunday mass, you are dispensed from the sunday obligation the diocese said. Out what happened on sunday at the basilica of the National Shrine of the immaculate conception, noting that priests started asking worshipers not to shake hands as a sign of peace midway through the catholic service. What is happening in your part of the country, eli . Caller the media is being irresponsible and dangerous by overhyping this. This is just like the regular flu. It only affects individuals who are at risk or elderly primarily. The next time Something Like this happens, no one is going to take them seriously. This is going to fizzle out by next year. We are going to see thousands of jobs and billions of dollars lost because of the overhyping. Gouging, i have heard this mantra about gouging. When prices go up for Hand Sanitizer, that is a signal that we need these. Suppliers kick into gear to make a profit. The profit motivates people to go and deliberate goods. If we lived in a socialist we would have shortages indefinitely. This is just another leftist. Voters,e to democrat dont be scared, you will be ok. Host do you see gouging . Caller it is not gouging. They are satisfying demand. The prices will come down by the end of the week. Thank you for the call. Puerile for 149, facemasks for 20. Good morning. Caller good morning. People should not try to politicize this. You would like to have the turndent who can basically to educated people who everyone would trust, even Trump Supporters would trust a lot more than a president that basically is incompetent in saying all the things that he has to say that really are untrue. It makes people more fearful. Too bad we dont have a president like roosevelt now who calmed peoples fears when we had a crisis. Host what is something the president has said that has made you more fearful . Caller he has said everything will go away and this is a short read of time. It is Trump Supporters. Confident feel more if he turned everything over to the medical people who are astute enough to know about the situation. What you have seen so far, you would like to see it play a larger role . He should possibly be the lead spokesman. There are other people too. With a shortage in the various and the test cdc kits, you have people saying test kits for everyone. Putting mike pence in charge of this, it is ludicrous. People who were confident, it would alleviate a lot of those fears that people have because we do not know how long this is going to be, and despite that gentleman on the phone before, he was talking about socialist this and that. Children, it is older people, well i guess maybe he is not that old, or he is in good shape and does not have a Senior Citizen and his family. The fact of the matter is we are all in this together. People coming here from their summer homes and everything. I think we should forget about trump and each state takes their own initiative here and do what they can. Town do whatate or they can. Im sure people are going to be concerned. Why do you trust the local or state response more than the federal . Caller i dont trust anything donald trump would say. He is a liar. 8. 3 billion past last week for the emergency supplemental. Caller im glad it passed. I dont know what youre going to do. You cannot believe anything donald trump says. Were going to kevin in fort lauderdale. Good morning. Thank you for taking my call. There is a lot to unpack. A lot of us are scared out of our minds. We have parents that dont take their kids out. We are not getting enough information to the parents. Most of the people who work here work inrd county, they in thevice Industry Hotels and casinos. We are down the road from maralago, where the president had so many people from foreign countries. We have a situation where the teachers are trying to keep the kids clean and safe. I live with an elderly mother and my son. I dont know if i am carrying anything if im going to be hurting my mother and son. Teachers are worried. Sucks. Urance there is nobody in this county that wants to keep their insurance. They want to keep their job so they have insurance. Nobody likes their insurance. , they want me to go to a doctor without this being a pandemic. My insurance will cost me five grand to get tested for coronavirus. There is a massive wave of disinformation. Half the people in Broward County talk about social media. Products saying they kill the coronavirus, and our government did not do anything about it. You brought up that money that came into that emergency fund. Money that cover the was not approved years ago under a president that should have been in place to get ahead of Something Like this. Now we are so far behind, nobody trusts anything. Festivalsaissance and, town. We are exposed to everything. Host do you think schools should be closed . Is this something that people should avoid for the first stable future . Catch22. At is a shut it down. There is too much going on. You are talking about festivals that are outdoors and open. Maybe not as much because you are in an environment where you can control a little bit. Was the comment that you were talking about . The school system. There should be. We are talking parents that will not pick up their kids as is. Were exposing everyone. Im especially educator. We have children that are everywhere from the autistic spectrum down to other health impairments. We have no idea what we are being exposed to. Thing because we cannot work at home. Im a special educator. Parents will drop their kids ofe cannot work at home. And under federal guidelines i have to show up. Teachers toing her whatever these kids are bringing in with families that are working their bots off day and and day out. They are being exposed to everything under the spectrum as far as illnesses. We get them in our schools constantly because we are florida and south florida. Host we got your point. Coming up on 7 30. Thoughts, just asking for the impact of the Coronavirus Response on your community. We were just talking to kevin about large gatherings and those large gatherings happen during campaign season. The story from the Washington Post today about what is happening on the campaign trail. The campaign of senator Bernie Sanders of vermont, President Trump has said they will move ahead with the plan to move concernspite mounting about the coronavirus. Will discuss it today. If you want to hear more about that, it will be part of our roundtable discussions in our next hour of washington journal. That story we were just reading from the Washington Post today. If you are in a mountain or pacific time zones, 202 7488001. Patrick, st. Louis, what impact have you seen . A lot of have seen people in st. Louis treated like a joke. They keep saying it is just like the flu and everything will be fine. A preexistingh condition. I have multiple sclerosis. I expected it to stay abroad. It has been soo anemic, and this is such a burial at form of this virus that it is already here. I dont see anything happening. Host that is patrick in st. Louis. This is from twitter. En says i use the v. A. Health services to the new virus will undoubtedly overwhelm that system. Text, thending us a escalation of covid19 only highlights every weakness from our Economic Growth and inequality. Children at home, medical care government as infrastructure has been defunded. 8. 3 billion in emergency supplemental funding has been signed by the president on friday. We will talk more in the next segment about where that money is going specifically. It was on friday at the white house that larry kudlow was asked about further funding going out from the government. He talked about specific targeted funding if it is needed in the coming days and weeks. Here is what he had to say on friday. Mentioned cash injection funding. We have the authority in many places to set up operations that would provide immediate cash assistance. Sba. For example the im using that as a random example. They have emergency funds. Other places, the department of transportation. I dont want to put any of our secretaries or administrators in hot water. We may have to go back to congress for additional appropriation requests. We dont know yet. Is story im trying to tell assistance, timely not throw money at the problem, which has never worked in the past. We think we will get out of this within months. Isthink the economy fundamentally sound. Asking you this morning about what youre seeing when it comes to the impact of coronavirus in your community. Linda saying and sanitizer is gone. Food on amazoned are delayed. I see very little being done in my community, not because they but small to prepare, government forcing shifts in priorities. Rebecca is in burlington, vermont. What are you seeing in burlington . Caller we have not been heavily hit. I happen to agree with the gentleman from california that called this morning. I feel a little conspiracy against the older people with weakened immune system. I am 60 years old. Homes inthree nursing washington. We are not paying in. We are considered draining. Draining thef swamp because i hear attitudes of people stating that we were full of autoimmune illness, and it is just a matter of time before we die anyway. Of inyou are feeling ages the federal response . Caller i feel this was something that was possibly turned loose on purpose and maybe they had been playing with this for a while. Impact not have a huge on younger people. If we die off, we are no longer taken on disability or for Social Security. It is a winwin except for the people that are elderly. This is annie from houston, texas. Caller good morning. That if thiso say virus is so contagious and this and that, why is it that no news media are getting sick from it . Outside and they give it to somebody else, dont sterilize the microphone because the more i think about this, the more im beginning to think this is some sort of kids are see. Conspiracy. Host you will believe it when you see members of the news media get sick . Caller i do not believe it at all. T does not make sense no media got sick. No media died. Host this is annie out of michigan. Caller good morning. Im calling because i would not go out in a crowd for any of these politicians that are running for office. They stand around for hours. They are close proximity. They are caged in securing them in place. They are coughing and breathing. We have to discontinue those. People want to go out and push for the presidency, let them speak in a microphone from a close place. They depend on these large crowds to come out. Host you have a president ial primary in michigan. Are you going to vote . Caller no. Im independent. There is close contact. Breathing and coughing on one another. It is just too much. They are worried about schools and Nursing Homes and businesses are telling their people to work from home. Get a handle on it. Clouds ut in large crowds. It is not a good idea. That is my advice. Host president ial primaries tomorrow for super tuesday. We saw last week on super tuesday images of people showing up in masks to vote for super tuesday. Pictures of Hand Sanitizer being offered at the polls last week. We will see what happens this week when it comes to the impact on politicians. The impact on President Trumps schedule, noting that an recent cpac in washington where President Trump spoke tested positive for covid19. President trump was photographed shaking hands with the chairman of the American Conservative Union who confirmed he had been in direct contact with the man during the conference. Call at that close political event underscores how the outbreak threatens to a band the president s routine. President can cheney is promises to continue to hold tremendous political rallies. Next out of florida. Good morning. Caller i would like to comment about the mask. The cdc says the masks dont really work unless you are already sick because you can spread it. Say ifey turn around and you touch Something Like metal, the virus can stay on that for two days. I would think common sense would masks, by the rubber gloves because youre going to catch it by touching. You are not going masks, by the rubber to catch it from the mask. Superstorego to a were any place outside where i have to push a shopping cart or Something Like that. I will hand sanitize my gloves. I will wear them through the store. How much did you do that before coronavirus . Caller no. Im not a german folk. Host this is larry out of new york. Good morning. Good morning. I would like to make a few points. There are 321 million americans. A few hundred people have the virus. ,n the back of the lysol can they have kills coronavirus. I look at this as when the news media reports there is going to be a snowstorm, and it is only done to stimulate the economy. In this case, i think it is done in reverse to destroy trumps robust economy. I think this is a ploy by the media and the democrats to destroy trumps chances for reelection. These people are so desperate. I think they will try anything. Host asking the resident who do you think has the best chance to beat trump and the resident answering the coronavirus. Woodbridge, virginia. You are next. Caller thank you for taking my call. Im not a conspiracy theorist. I dont believe this was released intentionally. I remember reading about a Research Facility in china. I believe that facility was doing research on viruses, including corona. It is plausible that a worker at that facility may have been accidentally exposed. You say you are not a conspiracy theorist. Why do you think this is something that could be a conspiracy . Caller the only thing i believe is being done wrong is i think the media is definitely blowing it out of her portion. In my opinion it is just another virus. I think President Trump is correct when he stated that 30,000 people die every year from the flu, and no one is making a big deal about that. And the leftedia is politicizing this for political gain. I dont know if that is a conspiracy. I believe it is being politicized. The conspiracy is that no one is thereing on the fact that was a Research Facility in wuhan china that was doing research on corona. I think it is possible that it escape from that facility. As far as my family, i have a lungwho is in stage four cancer. She has a compromised immune system. I worked outside. I still work fulltime. I have to leave my wife at home. That we are not going to restaurants. I dont know how this virus is spread. There could be a restaurant worker that is sick and does not know it. What if that restaurant worker cost on my wifes food and she gets sick and dies . That is the biggest precaution i am taking. I am limiting her exposure to people and restaurants and cooking all of her food. Saying you dogeo not think people are talking enough about the regular flu. The cdc says their estimated range when it comes to the flu, 9fluenza has resulted in million to 45 million illnesses and somewhere between 12,000 and 61,000 deaths annually since 2010. That is the regular flu. We are talking about the coronavirus. What is the impact on your community . Some of the callers today talking about their work in the School Systems and the idea of possibly shutting down School Systems around the country. We have seen a few shutdowns already reported. Shutting down schools in some communities leaves about 40 of the children in those schools may miss two meals per day. Caller good morning. This is yolanda. I just wanted to let the folks in the usa now that the coronavirus is in control. Look at the numbers. They are very low compared to the flu, compared to the regular flu. Our president is doing a very good job. Professional Health Doctors working on it also. He is not saying im the medical professional. He has these Health Professionals working on it. Look at the numbers. They are very low. Host are you changing anything you are doing . Caller mi changing what . Have you changed anything you have done in response to the coronavirus . Caller i have always been healthconscious. Not always. I live changed anything you have done in response to the coronavirus . Here in my home situation or house situation is very different from your ordinary other conditions so the conditions i am in, i have to always be careful about it. This coronavirus is a new virus. The president s team, Health Professionals are working on it. Your point. Of today 564 confirmed cases in the u. S. , 22 deaths so far in the u. S. Officials trying to get a sense of the scale of this virus. Number of u. S. E cases could double in the next 48 hours. We will continue to watch that throughout the week. We continue to ask you what are you doing . What are you seeing in your part of the country . Dallas, texas, pat. Caller good morning. I just wanted to report on our community. Cases we have had a eight cases. I have not changed at all. We go out to eat. Have a problem because i have multiple sclerosis. Cases, if itot of was hitting texas, of course we would want to stay in and close the schools. Blownust seems like it is so far out of out of out of proportion. I went to google. It said that during the flu season 70,000 people usually die. I guess google is wrong if the cdc says something else. Host those numbers change every year. The annual estimates between 12,000 and 61,000, and those numbers change every year. I just want her people to ask themselves, there are 500 cases and several dead, what and why are we blowing this out of proportion . It is just really bothering me. Thank you for letting me speak. Trying to keep track of the cases this morning. We have been using the Johns Hopkins dashboard on the coronavirus. In houston and san antonio. That number is below a dozen at this point. Jared in california. Caller good morning. Im going to ask you about the treatment for coronavirus. Awant to talk about trump for second. It is scary that he refuses to power and even when he puts pence in charge, he says he will report back to me. It all has to go back to him. There are just so many problems with that i dont have time to get into. Host how do you think mike pence has done as the point person that President Trump has turned to on this issue . Caller if it was a medical person who knew something about medicine. I want to ask you about an article. What is the treatment . How do they treat you . Problems with it, you go to the hospital and in fact the people that are working there . How is this going to be treated . I have heard nothing about that. Host stick around. At 9 00 this morning we will be joined by dr. Ronald yi, chief medical officer of the National Association of Community Health centers, someone who may be able to answer those questions for you. Community Health Centers on the front line. That is coming up at 9 00. Joe is next out of waukesha, wisconsin. Caller good morning. I have a comment about being watching out so you dont pick up this virus. Peopleroadcasted from coughing and sneezing. We walk all over that in our stores. We walk all over it in the streets. We bring it in our house. Spread it all over the house. It is just simplistic. It is better to be safe instead of sorry. We take off our shoes and sanitize everything. We are washing our hands very often. Another point that i wanted to make is that we just had super tuesday. I wonder what the result of super tuesday with all of these people gathering and voting, how did that change our passing of this virus . It is a statistic we could look at and learn something. Have super tuesday to coming up tomorrow. Vancouver. From it is all the by mail in washington. I have already voted. The person i voted for it is no longer running. Host do you mind saying who that was . Caller it was mayor pete. Host what do you think of him endorsing the former Vice President . Caller i was going to vote for joe biden, but he had such bad polling that i did not believe he had the chance to beat trump. My wife voted for biden and somehow i wish i would have waited also. Host do you think about by mail is the right system when it comes to the primaries and how quickly they change . Caller not as early as it was. Im 65 years old. I grew up where you vote on the day of the election. That is what i agree on. Thats the way they were. I voted for a guy who is no longer running. Host thank you for the call. No longerry booker running as well. Within the past hour, he announced his endorsement of joe biden. Here is the tweet he put out. The answer to hatred and division is to reunite our spirit of common purpose. Joe biden will show there is more that unites us than divides us. He will tackle the most pressing challenges. That is why i am proud to endorse joe. Time for one more phone call. More abouttalking the primaries in our next segment of washington journal. Todd in wisconsin michigan. Caller yes, sir. I work for one of the major auto companies. I dont want to say which one. I dont want to lose my job. We have about 1000 people per shift. We are not really concerned about it. Im not taking any extra precautions. I go to work every day. Im 63. Im in fair health. Im not concerned about it. Host what is your company telling you . Caller nothing. They said that they are getting parts from china and that everything was fine in there is no reason to be alarmed. Usually normal precautions and wash her hands and that is how it is. What are you going to do, shut down a whole plant or over some cases that happened on the other side of the country . Everybody gets the flu, everybody gets this. Preventionear about on that. You dont see any. This to bef all honest with you. As promised come up next, a roundtable discussion, take a look at the week ahead in washington on the campaign trail will be joined by steve dennis and Daniel Strauss. Watch our campaign 2020 coverage of the candidate speeches and onults tuesday evening cspan, cspan. Org or listen on the free cspan radio app. Washington journal continues. Host on mondays we like to take a look at the week ahead in washington and to do that this week we are joined by Daniel Strauss, a senior political reporter with the guardian and steve dennis, reporter with bloomberg. Now that supplemental is passed, the money is on his way out the door, what tools does congress have left in its toolbox to respond to the coronavirus p what should we look for on that front . Talking aboutre assorted other things to get done. Everything from paid sick leave for workers, a quarter of the workers the United States on have sick leave and there sort of other things they want including making sure testing is free, the treatments are affordable, that sort of thing. It will be interesting to see if they can get any of this on the floor this week. Theres a lot of other things going on this week. With markets plunging this morning and all the futures, you might hear more talk of doing some kind of stimulus. The last time we had this market shock was 2008. Remember what happened then. There were some emergency things nancy pelosi and george bush worked out back then, things like tax cuts. Theres always been talking about that in the administration. Theres been some talk on capitol hill but even if you days ago i spoke to the finance chairman and asked him are you considering a big payroll tax cut for example and he said not yet. I think there will be a lot of talk about that and also about congresss own security. We have two members who are not showing up this week. Ted cruz saying he will self quarantine in texas so he wont be here voting. Congress is supposed to be here this week and then out next week and then come back for a few weeks, its a real question if they will continue their normal schedule, the normal routine. If you think about it, members of the senate, they are sort of the target demographic for people who shouldnt be on airplanes. Haveare older folks, some do Underlying Health conditions. They go to 435 districts and fly back and forth this week. Millions of americans come every year. Right now they there are no major changes to the schedule. Votes are scheduled to go on as usual. Potentialare some tough decisions that have to be made. Host on that, how do you expect to hear more about that especially considering what happened to markets overnight and where they could be opening today. Guest its hard for congress to react quickly. Time, lasttakes some week i talked to the chairman of the Appropriations Committee Richard Shelby about the possibility of a stimulus package given the shock to the economy or potential shock and he said there hadnt been a lot of talk about that but if it were up to him, something on infrastructure would make sense. Congress has been negotiating a package off and on for years. The big problems how to pay for it. Right now we have the lowest Interest Rates weve ever had under 1 for the 30 year bond. Its the kind of thing you could get done potentially but when you negotiate who gets what project, thats not something you will get done this week but you could talk about that sort of thing. Host coronavirus in the campaign trail. Impacts on candidates events and what are you hearing about in the states in the super tuesday two states. Guest its hard to tell impacts on schedules only because right to there is a mad dash recalibrate for michigan in the primary there which is a must win for Bernie Sanders and a lot of the strategies ive talked to say the joe biden has the advantage in. But it is unusual for Something Like coronavirus or a disease or Something Like that to become a trending topic within any campaign. But thats what we are seeing. Its such a prevailing issue that it is eclipsing other topics like i guess you would say the economy or in the democratic primary, how to beat trump. This is now becoming the number one issue on the campaign trail. Host do we know at this pointer is it too soon to know about the impact last week on super tuesday in terms of turnout, anecdotal stories of people not going to the polls . , the about a week ago feeling was the coronavirus was a little more contained than it is now in the longer it goes on the more it will be in the more it will affect turnout in these upcoming states. Host as weve learned what a difference a week can make. You said must win in michigan for Bernie Sanders, why . Guest in 2016 this was a state that bernie one and it really reinvigorated his campaign at that point in the cycle or even he himself didnt think he was going to win the state when he was told by his wife, he was very surprised. This time around it seems biden has gained and continues to gain a large amount of momentum within the Democratic Party and there is a question over whether the folks who voted for sanders and 2016 were really just voting against Hillary Clinton or for sanders. Host the numbers of reviewers to call in. Lots to talk about. Thats why we have an hourlong roundtable. Bloomberg,s with Daniel Strauss of the guardian this morning. Democrats, 2027488000. Republicans, 2027488001. Independents, 2027488002. In, idaho,e calling michigan, mississippi, missouri, north dakota and Washington Holding their primaries this week. Only one of those states is also Holding Congressional primaries tomorrow, i believe that is mississippi. What are the storylines we should watch on the congressional front out of mississippi . Guest thats a good question. Frankly have been focused so much on the coronavirus and all the other stuff going on in congress i havent been paying too much attention to mississippi. Last week during super tuesday there were some pretty good storylines with alabama, Jeff Sessions in a runoff in a couple of weeks, President Trump going after Jeff Sessions in the middle of the coronavirus he added extra time to go to take a shot at Jeff Sessions. What were your biggest surprises on the congressional front and anything we should be looking out for this week or next . Guest i would strongly encourage anyone following the campaign right now to Pay Attention to black turnout. Estate like mississippi is one where black turnout, democrats are hoping they can maintain that momentum through the next few contests. Theississippi like alabama, black vote is really the centerpiece of democratic electorate there. Sandersone like bernie versus joe biden, that is key. I would strongly encourage folks to Pay Attention to bernie the mayordorsement who is a rising star within the Democratic Party from decided to and he endorse Bernie Sanders. The importance here is that the mayors sort of rose to prominence within the state with support from the Bernie Sanders constellation of outside groups. Not every Group Kennedy right now was on the ballot in the countries doing that. And that is an important thing to watch the contest ahead. 7 00ry booker just after announcing his endorsement of the former Vice President. Will it make a difference . Guest there has been a pile on of endorsements for the former Vice President biden so at this point its hard to tell the influence of that. The growing support that Vice President biden is enjoying right now. Elizabeth warren did not endorse Bernie Sanders. Someone who is naturally host she has not ruled it out. Guest this is a fight for number one, not number two. When the other team is getting a lot of endorsements from other candidates will dropped out and bernie is not and the one person who is most aligned with some of his policies is not endorsing and there is no indication he will do the next couple of days, these contests, michigan is must win. Seniort Jesse Jackson endorsing him and he won the minute michigan primarily he was running for president. Think is dont you a reason why we are hearing those endorsements coming out now from the biden camp . Puttinge is sorting together this team of rivals type of approach and adding slivers of the democratic electorate, the democratic with thement and monopolizing the coverage is can be hard to change the dynamic if youre Bernie Sanders so he has to get on the ground. But as the strength of his campaign. He has a Great Network of people on the ground and they will have to pull through for him. You a lot of callers for two. Bobby in louisiana, republican, your up first. Thank you for taking my call. Beingms like america is affected by a lot of stuff right now. It seems like the strange to me that soon after the Democratic Party made a comment about how trump would lose if the coronavirus struck america, the next week we start hearing about the coronavirus rising in america. Now as far as the Democratic Party is concerned, god is not going to bless america as long as you have a party that is encouraging abortion, murdering against, thats marriage reproducing people on the earth, that would be the marriage of samesex couples. Coverage of the coronavirus, the caller brings up, there is this editorial cartoon in todays u. S. Daytoday. Its a pollster asking the resident who do you think is the best chance to be donald trump in the 2020 election, biden or bernie and they answer saying the coronavirus. Now this is a pressing problem for the Trump Administration more so. We are seeing markets vacillate and a growing sense of fear among americans about this virus. Would say this is the more pressing concern right now then trying to game out or spoil the democratic primary. President also the probably is chief calling cards about the economy. On the plummet up 3. 5 . Another good jobs report. Based on indicator early february before people start going to costco and cleaning out. Because they were worried they would be stuck in their homes for weeks. But the markets taking it. Recession,p with a the history is not great for president s who are running for reelection in the middle of a recession whether its his fault or not, whether he couldve done something differently or not, it becomes an overhang and you also have there is some turmoil at the white house. Youve a new chief of staff, the last chief of staff was of the cpac conference saying this was a media creation going after trump with the coronavirus. He is no longer the chief of staff and now we have people who attended cpac like ted cruz who wont be coming to congress this week because they are self quarantining. Ted cruz is not a liberal media creation. He is a conservative republican from texas. When to expect here from mark meadows and his first comments a heck of talk about a first test is the new chief of staff for President Trump, show up in the markets are tanking, bond yields of the lowest theyve ever been by far droppedt, oil prices gasyesterday, youve got a price war between saudi arabia and russia that has implications for the oil patch. You got airlines worried no one wants to buy airline tickets. You get the Tourism Industry under stress and there are no great options, there arent a lot of cheap options other than to do as best you can against this virus and even then theres been some hick ups getting testing kits out there. One of the reasons people just dont know how bad it is or not is we havent been able to test everybody. We have been able to get those done and out there quickly enough. That is something thats a concern every day when there is another closeddoor briefing, the senators say i wish they had done this weeks ago as far as the testing. And so this is going to continue to be an issue ended something mark meadows, at least get to say ive got the mess on my hands of got to clean it up but its a huge test for him. Host mary out of annapolis, maryland, democrat. Caller good morning. I wanted to find out, no one is really talked about the implication of the administration and the gop with regards to the aca and how they down, arted pulling defunding, creating issues with regards to communities around the country and no one talked about that impact and that kind of thing. Could you tell me a little bit about whats been done to ramp up, if anything, those communities that have been defunded . This 8 billion package includes about 1 billion for state and local response efforts. There was money in there for Community Health centers which were bolstered by the Affordable Care act. Is a holder for funding and vaccines. That is something that will probably come further down the line. Administration is trying to overturn a large chunk of the Affordable Care act in court. That is still before the courts, that would include a lot of protections in the law that you would have to replace and there is no action on capitol hill to replace those. One of the things the democrats and pointing out, if you have an Affordable Care act preventive care, its generally free. So that is something they have been talking about but there are a lot of people without coverage. Millions and people millions of people, will they get free vaccines or will those be too expensive for them . Other treatments will they be able to get those. If they go to a hospital and get a test, will the be charged thousands for the test. These are things there try to put funding in this bill, but it sounds get a lot of money, we spend trillions on health care each year and we have a 20 trillion economy. Its a small amount. Host i want to talk about aca on the campaign trail, give some more numbers to the callers. The Washington Post story today on liberal Health Agency over the years. Local Public Health agencies have lost about a quarter since 2008 according to the National Association, health officials, the main source of federal funding, emergency. This budget has been cut 30 back in 2003 when the trouble ministration per boat and the troubled ministers and is proposed cutting that even further. The next segment will have the chief medical officer of the National Association of unity Health Centers on. What it means for the campaign. Guest this is probably the longest trending debate within the democratic primary which is what to do about the aca. More moderate candidates, joe biden, amy klobuchar, a few others have all argued for basically building and reinforcing the aca. The policy progression right now is medicare for all leading to an bigger overhaul the Health Care System. Then during president obamas administration. That has not gone away. Right now, former Vice President joe biden is sort of the standard bearer for a more moderate approach of reinforcing the aca thats partially because he is trying to tie himself more closely to president obama and the Obama Administration. On the others, Bernie Sanders, the most liberal candidate in this field at any point in time in the 2020 race has argued for medicare for all and this gigantic overhaul of the Health Care System. Down to two shrinks candidates i think that will be a trending debate topic going forward. Host in the next debate is. Guest thats good to be in arizona. Host on sunday. We do not expect tall see gabbard. Guest we do not. The new debate rules exclude her from being on stage. Host apparently they will be seated or standing. Will that give someone an advantage . Guest joe biden probably likes sitting. He did in the Vice President ial debates. He was sitting for lease one of those. Guest they are both in their 70s, they probably like sitting. That format presubmitting questions for this. Guest both candidates have done town halls multiple times. I dont think thats incredibly different. You see candidates less of a chance to filibuster so i think we will see some more direct contact with these candidates and voters. Host steve dennis, Bloomberg Senate reporter. Daniel strauss of the guardian, senior political reporter. You can call from would like brian did from woodbridge, virginia. Caller good morning, thank you for taking my call. I was in a talk about the election first. Care, medicareh for all would solve every problem thats occurring with the Health Care System addressing this pandemic with the virus. Intact told be fully contain the pandemic. Host why do you think that . Caller because it addresses all the obstacles in the health care that is put all the problems that need to be is solved that the aca partially solves. Doesntr health care solve it all. Host give mean example some of those obstacles. Caller the people that cant afford certain things, cant get care. With medicare for all, everyone would be able to get tested and all of would be intact because the money would be already there. Waiting for everyone to access it. We wouldnt have to worry about trying to access it. It would be in place where as now we have to go procure it in the manufacturing costs have been outsourced because a private has profit concerns. Who are you an independent voted the virginia primary last week . Caller yes sir i certainly did end on that topic there, most of the people doing the initial election when Bernie Sanders is running the last election, most of the independence were to be nominated and when he didnt they were discouraged and instead of a record turnout they got disenfranchised and didnt vote at all. Sanders us independence and true liberals who are tired of the halfhearted problems of the working class. Democrats are likely have a flat tire so we will make it half computer for repairing you slowly. We are tired of that nonaggressive approach to the working class. Host do you want to start on this one. Guest there are pretty stark divisions in the Democratic Party doing the sanders camp in the biden camp. It will be a challenge to pull that Party Together at the convention assuming the ,onvention is still happening im assuming thousands people will still go to milwaukee. There will be a lot of challenges, ive talked to a lot of senators about this question and they are all saying they itl pull together and figure out this time and Bernie Sanders on the campaign trail saying he will endorse joe biden and vice versa. In the meantime there will be at very a week or so of some intense campaigning. Bernie sanders is making the point about joe biden that his health care pan leave some people out, making the point that joe biden has voted for trade agreements like nafta, which were not popular in states like michigan and that those states went for trump. He is going to have some points to make on the debate stage. It will be interesting to see how Bernie Sanders handles at this time around. He did endorse Hillary Clinton, he did campaign for her. He went to a bunch of different events but his folks were not completely behind Hillary Clinton. At least not all of them. I think its going to be interesting to see how Bernie Sanders handles the next few months if he and sub not winning. This is going to be, regardless of the outcome of the election there will be i think a robust and active sanders and thereoing forward is an ongoing question within the Democratic Party right know about when we come to Convention Time will there be a rift, will the runnerup sort of help the presumptive nominee and allow for a smooth convention or will there be a contested convention. There is always sort of rumblings this is the year there will be some kind of contested convention or brokered think maybebut i its more possible this year the previous years. And to see the consolidation as a responseen to those fears and the Democratic Party. For . Who are we waiting Elizabeth Warren we mentioned already. Guest maureen is big. Everyone would like to see or to know who former obama decides to endorse. There are a few other liberal holdouts. Sherrod brown has been quiet throughout this primary process. Think for the most part we have seen the bulk of the endorsements by now. I dont think of a few centers and members of commerce who havent weighed in. Host how often do you asking this question . Guest ive asked him a number of questions. I asked her he was going to run, he said i never wanted to be president. Question, in the vp the endorsement question. He and biden have very different views on trade. It is something trump has made more of a split because the republicans are split. And it scrambled the politics and biden doesnt talk a lot about trade but i expect Bernie Sanders to talk a lot about trade in the next week and it would be interesting to see if biden has an updated version of his old message which was the tpp, Transpacific Partnership was good, nafta, voted for that. Hear how that to biden thee plays out coming weeks. Next week we had to the delegate rich states of florida, ohio as well as a list next week. We will see how it plays out on the campaign trail. As we take a look at the week ahead on the campaign trail in washington, steve dennis, Daniel Strauss. 27488000, dump republicans www. Cspan. Org 2027488001, independents, 2027488002. Tom from republican. 74, republicane and vietnam vet. Watching all the insanity with , a question mr. Stephens are presented bloomberg , the Bloomberg News network which i understand was not permitted to accurately report political news. My hope is that Elizabeth Warren will endorse joe biden and that will be her third in a role loss. The endorsement of a proven leader. , than comes out in favor we can go back to her native american roots. Um, i am, hopefully, dheres to common sense, um um comment precautions during the pandemic or whatever is coming. Peoplei understand some have that opinion about Bloomberg News, certainly i tried to do everything i can in the nonpartisan way. Mr. Bloomberg did run for president , he is involved in politics. He does not send emails in the morning telling me how to write my stories. Host how long if you been covering congress . Guest since 2005. Host when you get your start . Guest hagerstown. A long time ago, when he five years ago. Host what election cycle is this for you . Guest this is my third president ial. I was an intern with you guys at. Oll call it has been a most and years professionally. Ont taking your phone calls whats ahead this week in washington and whats ahead on the campaign trail. Christine out of west virginia, democrat, good morning braided good morning. Caller my question is about the corona virus test kit. Why does the trump who kitsation refuse in february . Online that the cdc is now using Company Trump or the owned stock in. Could he benefit from this . It worries me because the doctor was on fox news saying the kind of messed up in the beating with testing, so thats my question. Thank you. Guest it is true they have had problems with the testing kits, that has been well documented. I havent seen anything for nefarious reasons, im pretty sure if there was some nefarious reason and that he knew about it , he would not stand for it. I do think this issue of testing is a big story and it is something that has to be, it will get a lot of attention. Even once these tests are out there, even when that happens they will still be what happened, how do we prevent this from happening again, wise is this than we are. Theres some questions among democrats on the hill whether there is less emphasis on testing because trump didnt want the numbers to look bad. I dont think there are folks of the cdc and nih were thinking that. There is conspiracy theories that are flowing around Something Like this that fly very quickly. I would caution people that until something has been checked those be treat conspiracy theories flying around on facebook with lots of grains of salt. The president for meaning in florida today expected to be outback back in washington. What we know about his schedule coming up . Guest the trump Reelection Team has decided to sort of align their schedule with democratic calendar so any time theres a primary you will see the president himself with a Vice President doing some kind of Campaign Event in the state where the primary contests is happening. This is a new strategy has seen. Its pretty interesting. It is like a realtime counter i am not sure if the result is going to be splitting the vote or splintering or just sort of acting as a pulse check for Republican Base as democrats come out to vote. Will sort i think it energizer for voters and remind them to go to the polls and stay active in politics throughout the primary contest. Host an energizer on both sides . Guest yes. Host richmond, virginia, earl, independent. Caller good morning braided i was calling because i was i thet vote in the primary, reason for that is i was supporting bloomberg as a candidate and of course he ispped out, now my attitude votingking forward to for the Republican Party for the im still thinking of the time when the democrats got up and walked out and all the Social Security was in limbo , they didnt pay the federal workers. Thats on my mind and i dont see how people can quickly forget that. That, all the democrats that are running for president , none of them are saying anything thats interesting to me. I talked about how they can better serve me. Host so a couple of quick questions. If it had been bloomberg against donald trump you wouldve voted for bloomberg . Caller i sure would have. Host bloomberg was still in the race last week on super tuesday but you didnt go out and vote for him in the primary . Caller well he wasnt on our ticket. It was just it was just vice and thet and sanders lady, this war in braided warren. Bloomberg had discontinued his campaign. Guest im not really sure what hes talking about there as far as not paying federal workers, federal workers ended up getting paid so im not sure where he is going with that. This is a big challenge of the democrats is there people who voted in these early primaries with lots of different people. People gave money to Elizabeth Warren, villa klobuchar, different people for Different Reasons paid joe biden with a front runner the beginning and he was going down until the last few weeks. He had not set the world on fire and so this is a challenge for the democrats is to broaden their appeal coming out of this race. Steve avila to start since its the headline and where it comes from. Bidens come back as add urgency and unease in republicans ukrainian pro. Guest the republican chairman in the senate who had been investigating the ukraine issues for a couple of years now since 2017, they are stepping up their efforts, they are going to vote on wednesday in committee in Homeland Security committee for subpoena, mitt initially said he was not inclined to support but he is worried this will look rontical, he talked to johnson, the chairman of the committee who said this would be behind closed doors, wont be a show trial and so romneys office that he will support the subpoena. ,hat is going to be interesting for ainto this Consultant Company called blue star who used to work with ukraine involving some conspiracy that this guy has been talking about involving the bidens. To republicans want to get is why did burisma come of this Ukrainian Energy company, higher joe bidens son hunter and what did they get out of it. Department give hunter biden special access, was there anything the Obama Administration did differently because of that and so they have been trying to get records in the state department, the administration, they also are subpoenaing this person for documents and testimony. Ron johnson was to release a report the next couple months, perdemocrats say politics their public and say theyve been working on this for three years and they want to get to the bottom of it and they cant get to the bottom of it. Host ukraine and the campaign 2020. Guest its an ongoing concern for democratic voters if joe biden wins the nomination. There is a fear republicans will just hammer him on ukraine and hunter biden and thats going to be a relentless topic of discussion and really something democrats wont be able to parry correctly or sufficiently in the general election. Shown arepublicans have strong interest in bringing that up in the general election in donald trump, jr. Said he would like to debate hunter oneonone which would be unusual. But it is something i think you would see in the scenario where or that topic of discussion would be something we see in the scenario where joe biden gets the nomination. Democrat. Fornia, a just about 10 minutes left in the segment. Caller can you hear me ok . Host yes maam. Caller i have a question i would like to have somebody in media asked Bernie Sanders about his medicare for all program. And for manyold years i have been putting into a special fund for Social Security and out of that comes my medicare. What i would like to know from bernie, if he does medicare for all, is he going to dip into the fund i have already put in money over the years ive been prefor it. Will he take money out of that and tax me again for medicare and nobody has asked that question about how he is going to be handling Senior Citizens and what weve already done. About he has talked medicare being better, his Medicare Fraud plan gets rid of all the copays, prescription hiss costs become free in planet he talks about raising taxes generally on the wealthy and corporations, he hasnt filled out how to do it. In the 60 minutes interview he was challenged on this point. So yes he has put out several options. Would be very expensive and one thing thats true about everyone of these candidates putting out bernie is an independent running as a democrat. There are not 51 votes for medicare for all. Theyre not 51 votes for anything that comes close to medicare for all. There would have to be Sweeping Change in elections with a lot of different senators and house members for that to happen. If something is likely to happen next few years even if Bernie Sanders was the presidency, probably not. Host is there a majority of the majority in the house . Guest i think you could probably get a majority of the majority but you have to get 218 or everything is pointless. Thats a real challenge for a president sanders, not only putting out the plan but also the digital file you plate pay for it unless you will increase the deficit already running a 1 trillion a year. Suddenly are tapping into medicare and Social Security, one thing she said i think should be pointed out is its not like theres a big pot of money youve paid in all your life, that money was spent long ago. Lessrs right now pay much in those medicare taxes than they are going to end up using. Thats why the deficit, one reason why the deficit keeps going up. The taxes were never enough to pay for those future expenses. The one good thing is bond rates are so low, the bond markets are now host the debt question but also the callers point of asking questions the candidates, who is easier to get a question to come abide in her sanders . Guest it is not easy for either candidate. I think it is slightly easier for sanders. The Biden Campaign has taken pains to really control and corral biden including his events and how big they are and appearances in general. Sanders has always been more willing to engage with questioners and the press of press conferences than the former Vice President. But you cant just call either of them up. Host on that last question from the caller. Sure, im still not quite im still unclear on it to be honest. Theres a lot we dont understand or know about Bernie Sanders medicare for all plan and i dont think we will get a lot of those answers in the next few weeks. Host more time to figure it out on the campaign trail but only a few minutes left in this segment we will keep taking calls. Kevin, indiana, independent. Good morning. Caller good morning. I asked this same question about two years ago. I think it was to not maxine waters, but a sender from california. Superdelegates, the democrats keeping their election the same with superdelegates, i think you are getting less people being democrats because they feel like their votes dont matter. Are your are you guys concerned with this years election going the same way with last year . Socialist canada gets more votes but the superdelegates. Host there are a few changes this year. Guest after the 2016 election there was a Unity Commission that basically changed the level of influence superdelegates had in the primary braid right now they do not have the same amount of influence on the first ballot is the second ballot. To argument here was just really allow for more participation and to not drive away voters who felt that in 2016 that Hillary Clinton had an unfair advantage because of superdelegates, unelected officials who could move an election or to pay scale one way or another. Not, the amount of influence superdelegates have this cycle is much smaller then in the last cycle. Think they will aay the same role even at highstakes convention that they did in 2016. Caller good morning. I have not really a question im sorry it is a question. I had a question on that. And the election is over the president is elected, how do you think i was thought the congress ran the country the whole government ran the country. Host in your hypothetical scenario are you talking about a reelected donald trump or a President Joe Biden or present Bernie Sanders . Who youre talking about in terms to relationship the congress. Say if if, joe biden was elected. , cestresident Joe Biden Mitch Mcconnell a so the senate. Guest i think you would see a lot less deference to a President Joe Biden for Mitch Mcconnell than he has given to donald trump. That is the nature of our twoparty system. You get a lot less deference. Nancy pelosi not giving donald trump a lot of deference and even impeached him. Bidenmcconnell and joe had a pretty Good Relationship where they cut an out of they cut a number of they cut a number of deals in the past. Theyve done a number of things during the obama years, but Mitch Mcconnells goal is to shrink government. To shrinks entitlements, shrink the cost of Social Security and medicare and medicaid. When Hillary Clinton looked like she might win in 2016, talked about working with her on a deficit reduction package that would go after entitlements. Youve seen the Sanders Campaign tried to point out mcconnell wants to cut entitlements come biden cuts deals with mcconnell. That could lead to cuts to Social Security and medicare. You had joe biden saying im protecting Social Security, even though in the past he is proposed various cuts to Social Security as part of deficit reduction proposals. That is another issue thats playing out in the campaign, but i do think mcconnell will go to biden and say we will cut the deficit together. Thats what hes wanted to do and it was his biggest disappointment saying congress was not being cut a deal that would cut entitlements with barack obama. Host how concerned should Mitch Mcconnell be about the majority . Guest i think its very much in the mix. There are a handful of seats whether democrats have a real shot of taking the house taking that house. Susan collins is facing the race of her life. Going from 78 to 42 since trump showed up on the scene in 2015. Thats a start decline. Martha mcsally lost her last race page she is on the ballot again against a very wellfunded market kelly. Mark kelly. These are going to be tough races, not gimme races. Democrats have a very tough race in alabama with doug jones facing off against the winner of this Senate Republican primary between Jeff Sessions and tommy hopper bill. The former auburn coach. It is really hard to win that alabama seat, that was sort of a fluke because of roy moore, the allegations against roy moore. We have time for one more phone call. Nor full, virginia, independent. Go ahead. To echo oneuld like , i think it has been underscored, im a true independent at heart and im telling you the problem within the Democratic Party is bigger than even any of your guests can even imagine. The people who voted democratic majority like i have before but im also a ross perot voter in 1992. The caller indicated, its time to go big or its time to stay home. The president ial election after president ial election, the deficit keeps growing medical costs keep growing braid growing. We are not seeing the results from it and we are at a fever pitch. Care, dentalary care, Mental Health and Substance Abuse disorders. We are really the safety net. We have 49 medicaid patients. 23 uninsured. We provide primary care to the communities that need it. Host for those uninsured, what happens with those folks . Guest we have a great relationship with the bureau of primary health care. They administer the Public Health grant which includes Community Health centers. It enables us to take care of people that have no health insurance. We have a sliding fee according annualr family size and income. For funding, we just saw the president and congress sign a . 3 billion in emergency supplemental. There is 100 million for emergency Health Centers. It will primarily be for supplies for personal protective equipment and to support centers. Host is that enough . Guest we can always use more. It is a start. We appreciate the bipartisan support. We have enjoyed that bipartisan support, and we need more. I think we have a lot of potential, which we will get to today. Host personal protective equipment, are there places where you are running out already in Community Health centers . Guest yes. We had a webinar on friday. We had 1900 people registered on that. We heard from to Health Centers on the west coast, seattle and oakland. Some of them are getting close. They are not completely out. Depending on the community they serve in the population, if there are a lot more international people, asian and pacific islanders, they are using their ppe a lot faster. We are not to the critical level yet. Host should they be using it already . Guest they are trying to follow the cdc guidelines in using masks and other equipment. They are doing their best. According to the education they are doing, we are trying to teach the patients. A lot of them are shifting to cohort groups where they examine a group of people rather than a oneonone situation. They are using less ppe. The cdc is good at playing out all these bangles to take. The Health Centers are seeking to follow that. Host what do you want to teach the patients . Guest teaching the patients is important. You have heard it all over the news from the cdc. Come in at the right time. Call ahead to discuss with your provider if it is necessary to come in. Have you had that exposure history . Are you having the right symptoms . Are you elderly . Do you have underlying conditions . Health centers are looking at alternative ways to communicate with their patients such as asian health services. They are looking to go to texting and phone calls to communicate with patients. Host in terms of questions that need to be asked, phone lines are open. If you are in the eastern or central u. S. , 202 7488000. If you are in the mountain or pacific regions, 202 7488001. Special line for medical professionals, 202 7488002. Theguest is dr. Ronald yi, chief medical officer for the National Association of Community Health centers. Believeight now i dont i have gotten any reports of Health Centers doing any direct testing. 1. 1 million are supposed to be available as of now. 640,000 are supposed to be distributed today and 4 million more by the end of the week one of my colleagues sent me an article that without court made made itb core available. Those will be able to be done directly at the Health Centers. Up to this point, you had to go to special labs. The challenge is to see that come into place. That is what we are waiting for, how we get the test kits and how we send those in. How do we pay for it is really important. These are the benefits under medicaid and medicare. We want to see what that looks like. Host how many employees do you have at these . 1400 nationwide. Host are they trained on giving these test and going through all the proper protocols . Thet i think that is why Community Health centers our strategic partners. Our staff is required to have an Emergency Operations plan consistent with fema rules and regulations we have a plan on mitigation preparedness, response, and recovery. We have all those in place already. Probably more of the frontline staff are trained in these. It goes all the way down to purchasing. They talk about how you respond and keep your business going and recover once you get through the epidemic. We are well prepared to handle this. I want to see the test kits fleshed out. That is a big one, especially for our uninsured patients sometimes we are not sure how that sliding the coverage will work with this. Those are usually things you deal directly with the laboratory company. Outeed to work the details of how we get people covered. My main concern is the testing so we can i, isolate, and contain as we work with the cdc and other federal partners. The personal protective equipment could be an issue. First, susan in washington, go ahead. Caller this is susan. I am calling because i wanted to find out what congress is doing to reauthorize. I feel like they are putting communities at risk by not passing funding. Fundinghe coronavirus is one thing. Longterm funding for Health Centers has been at risk if congress does not act to reactivate the Health Center fund. This could really damage the response we are trying to mount against coronavirus. This brings into question a lot of the employees asking are we going to be stable . We have been getting twoyear funding over and over erie over. We have been waiting for congress to do longerterm funding. Things like the pandemics and responses are critical. 12,000 locations around the country. Numbersat have been the over the past decade . Have they been relatively stable . Guest we have gone through continuing resolutions and sequestration, and we survived. The main thing is that Health Centers are bipartisan. Over 55 years, we have had ups and downs. There are very few programs when you look at the role government that have survived over 55 years. If you are 7488002 a medical professional. 202 7488000 if you are in the Eastern Central time zones. 202 7488001 if you are in the mountain or pacific time zones. Us ronald yi will be with until the bottom of the hour. When it comes to all the other work you do at Community Health centers, how much is coronavirus taking away from that other work . Of your response is concerns about the coronavirus . Guest it varies by geography in the country. Is impacted more dramatically because of the cases that have been popping up. We have seen more cases pop up every day. We are seeing that come in. In those areas they are having more patience call. People are coming in and asking questions. Is where the education comes in for us to educate our patients clearly. I would say it depends geographically on who is getting pressed on this. Areall the Health Centers in shape. Host lee said all the hospitals are overwhelmed now. She says her husband died due to a lack of care. When do Health Centers become overwhelmed . Guest sorry for your loss. Right now, it is when. Health centers are trying to stay on top of it. Overwhelm theto Emergency Rooms and hospital. That is for people who are having severe respiratory symptoms and shortness of breath. That is why the Health Centers are so key in this response. A lot of the funds were put more towards the hospitals. We need to even that out. We are on the front line. We need to be the ones that have testtaffing and ability to so that we can get this under control. I think that is really important right now. Caller good morning. The new coronavirus may not show signs of infection for many days. Fever or thef the cost, it will be 55 of the loan capacity. We need people taking a deep breath and holding the breath. If you experience some type of discomfort or coughing, perhaps. I wanted to speak about the residency. I have my three young people. We are retired doctors. I wanted to talk about the Health Centers. Familyt sounds like it very much in the profession. Guest thank you for your service on the frontline and also your interest in graduate medical education. The teaching Health Center program is critical for what we are trying to produce erie we have seen that physicians trained in Health Centers, 50 or more are going back. Is verywe practice different and very holistic. When residents have a chance to work in a Health Center, that is when they understand our mission and our patients and population. Health centers are the excellent place to train. Our hope is they would stay afterwards. Do, isding they can critical to what we do. That is the whole pathway that you mentioned his once we train them, we would love to be able to help them pay off loans. The average medical student has 200,000 in debt when they get out. Host what is the service life of this virus . Guest right now they do not know yet. I have heard up to nine days. Using the regular sanitation methodology of the cdc saying you need to wait an hour before anyone else uses the room. They are looking at it. Host what are the main treatments once you officially have coronavirus and when are you consider recovered . Guest right now we do not have any specific treatments. Moneys what some of that is going towards, understanding. Hat eri right now it is Supportive Care and perspectives are the first thing, eating right, sleeping, exercising, not exposing yourself. Basics. E the basic hygiene. If you are diagnosed for coronavirus, it is like having the flu. You need Supportive Care. You need to be well hydrated. Give them medications for the cost and the fever. You have to walk them through that. Until we have a specific treatment, that is what we have it is the ones that are in between and the 20 that end up hospitalized. Host florida, marcia, good morning. Caller in florida, the pharmacist are allowed to do the vaccines every year erie i was wondering why we could not make it so that the pharmacist could also do the tests . As i understand it, it is more of a mouth swab . Guest good question. Pharmacists have always been our allies. Most Health Centers have pharmacists. The pharmacist, when we have a vaccine, it would be great if they could do that. This is going to be a regulation issue if they could do the testing. Out what iscan find going on with our community and monitor that, if we can identify, isolate, and contain, that will be the key. I just have a couple of ideas. I have never seen so many different ways to wash her hands. If you dont cut your fingernails, it is going to help. Cut your fingernails if you are worried. Optics, they have these small wipes that are individually packaged that contain alcohol. Wash your hands real well. Then you pick your phone up. What good is it . Use those individually packaged wipes. You can get a hundred in a box for next to nothing. Thats all i have to say. We can do, weg dont want to cause panic. We want to be reasonable. If you are sick, you should be wiping your services down. This is like the flu. We need to be prudent. I agree with you. We need to clean everything we have. The president saying the best decision made was the toughest of them all, which saved many lives, the early decision to stop travel to many parts of the world. Guest whatever the reasoning, the u. S. Is in a much better situation than other countries. With the number of cases we have, we will have more. People are in the process of being tested. We will find more cases. Overall we are in pretty good shape right now. We will just have to see if this could turn in a day. Prepared on the frontlines of the Health Centers whatever happens. If we run into a full on emergency situation, we will be prepared to address that. We will be out there in the frontlines communicating with video,s through texting, chat, whatever it takes to take care of them. Right now we are in decent shape. This could change any day. National Community Health centers, if folks are trying to figure out where their Community Health center is, where can they do that . Guest they can go online. Going to target yesterday morning, everyone was rushing out of the door with toilet paper in Hand Sanitizer. Touching on the health care of ppe supplies in the sales online related to a financial benefit for certain individuals. I look at the government charging people to be exposeined to not other people. Freerent these facilities set up outside of the hospital . If you diminish the frontline of the emergency department, what does that benefit for the people that are going to have to call in sick that are your most talented staff . With Nursing Homes, i can go into any nursing home in with nursingminnesota and befort through the door, i am going to that shows it is not being properly clean and sterilized. Those individuals are the most vulnerable. Host you bring up a couple of good points. I want to give dr. Yi a chance to respond. Funds they are using the to look closely at extended care. Ther main focus is all infection control. I think again that underscores the need for Health Centers to be fully reported and seen as the frontline response to this pandemic.
