>> welcome back to "morning joe." looking at a scene from very familiar to people in washington. it's iwo jima memorial, which, of course, is dedicated to the united states marine corps members who died in defense of their country since 1775. mike, of course, that iconic image was captured by an ap photographer on this day in 1945. joe rosenthal was the photographer who took that amazing shot. and you read "flag of our fathers." the rest of that story is not necessarily happy one, that the flag was raised early on in the battle. they thought they had taken over the island, but as "flags of our fathers," amazing book by jimmy radley, his dad one of the people who raised the flag there, a doctor from wisconsin, the most horrific battle ensued after the raising of this flag.
