Times were wide spread. And even in the modern rah, there have been accusations that someone is fing things. President john f. Kennedy pocked fun as said at a speech in 1958, ive just received the following wire, dear jack, dont buy a single vote more than necessary. Ill be damned if im going to play for a landslide. Supporters of Richard Nixon contest that kennedy sr. Paid for just the right number of votes in a certain county in illinois to make sure that kennedy won the close president ial election in 1960. Most elections, of course, happen in early november just days after halloween, so you wouldnt be surprised that dead men voting seems to be common place in some states. A new jersey governor once famously quippedded i want to be buried in Hudson County so i can remain active in politics. But as i said, concerns about fraud are higher than theyve ever been. Record number of voters are expected to vote by mail for novembers election out of fear of standing in long lines and coming face to face with other people during the pandemic. States are making it easier than ever with many of them offering it as an option to just about every registered voter. The risk of an uncertain contested result is high. Democrats are planning to vote but mail in much greater numbers than are republicans, and in many states they wont be counted for many days until after november the 3rd. We face the possibility of joe biden overtaking President Trump in the days or maybe even the weeks that follow. All this could make that 2,000 bush v. Gore battle look like a polite difference of views at a pacifist convention. Democrats insist that the mailin process is absolutely pure, theres no chance of fraud any more than with inperson voting, but they didnt always say that. In 2005, former president jimmy carter cochaired a commission with james baker. One of their main findings, absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud. And the always reliable prodemocratic New York Times had a similar take just a few years ago, error and fraud at issue as absentee voting rises, they said. Times change. In fact, mailin voting is vulnerable to fraud. Weve seen recent examples in dallas, north carolina, paterson, new jersey, and elsewhere. So today were going to try to determine the risk to this election. Joining me is Jay Christian adams, president and general counsel of Watchdog Group Public Interest legal foundation. Hes also a commissioner with the u. S. Commission on civil rights. Using government data, his foundation found in the 2016 election there were more than 41 million mailed ballots and almost 7 million, or 16 , were either undeliverable, rejected or whereabouts unknown, unquote. Christian, thank you very much, indeed. Thank you. Gerry democrats say absolutely no, and the media join them in saying theres no evidence of significant widespread abuse of the mailin voting system. Is that right . Its dead wrong. First of all, we know that vote by mail disenfranchises voters. The post office only has a success rate goal of 96 ontime delivery. Thats 4 failure. It would have been 120 electoral votes in states with a 4 margin in 2016. So vote by mail disebb franchises people. They get rejected. Thats the first problem. The second problem is it cranks in vulnerability into the election. I dont want to put the fate of the country into the hands of the people who regularly deliver me my neighbors a mail. This is not how were supposed to elect people. We should have transparency in the process. Thats whats good about voting in person, because you can monitor whats happening. Government officials are on the scene to fix errors. When you vote by mail, its done in peoples living room, its done in the kitchen, its behind closed doors. Ted people get mailed ballots dead people get mailed ballots, and thats a problem. Gerry its become quite common place over the last decade or so. What kind of states Like Washington state, what kind of issues have they had . They dont seem to, i suppose, say theyve had major exercises in fraud . Oregons has had a problem. There was a survey among oregon male voters that talks about astonishing numbers of people who voted somebody elses ballot. Lashawn keaton was arrested for voting his dead sons ballot. Thats an example. Look at nevada, they did automatic mail ballots to everybody on the rolls, and the problem is when you have corrupted voter rolls like nevada has and then you vote outside of the transparency of election officials, bad things happen. Heres what happened in nevada. They mailed out 1. 3 million ballots, only 300,000 came back. Of those, 7,000 were rejected. Thats what i mean birdies enfranchisement. 230,000 ballots were undeliverable because the address in the voter rolls was bogus, was bad, was out of date. And thats not how we want to run an election, by throwing ballots out randomly into the public, and thats what happened in nevada. Gerry and a more problem is that so many people are planning to vote by mail, so many states are going to send mail ballots to reach the voters. Right. And when you have bad voter rolls, look, there was a case in pittsburgh, we sued allegheny county, and we found on the voter rolls in this key swing state one person was registered seven times, seven. His name was rashaun slade, and he would have gotten seven mail ballots. Thank goodness we caught it. Seven was the record, but there were people registered two, three, four times at once with active registrations with different voter id numbers that would be getting ballots if states like pennsylvania were to do vote by mail. Its happening all over the country where theyre doing vote by mail. People are getting multiple ballots. Gerry we need to take a quick break, but after that i want to ask you what should be done to insure americans can have confidence on november looks like they picked the wrong getaway driver. Theyre going to be paying for this for a long time. They will, but with accident forgiveness allstate wont raise your rates just because of an accident, even if its your fault. Cut sonny. Was that good . Line the desert never lies. Isnt that what i said . No you were talking about allstate and insurance. I just. When i. Lets try again. Everybody back to one. Experience amazing at your lexus dealer. Gerry were talking about the likelihf mail hundred voter fraud. Christian, youve laid out the examples, some of the examples that weve seen and were likely to see. We are now seven weeks away from the president ial election. Ballots are already going out, people are already starting voting. What can possibly be done to give americans confidence, again, especially if its a close election, that the outcome can be reliable . First of all, if you want your vote to count, vote in person. Put that ballot in the machine yourself. Dont rely on the postoffice. Secondly, what can be done is having states like michigan and pennsylvania with very, very politicized secretaries of astronaut in those places of state in those places run the election according to the law, run the election according to the rules. In many of these places like arizona, we just won a case in arizona because the Maricopa County election official was changing the rules as they go along. Theres a reason legislatures set rules ahead of time, its so we can have confidence in the system. Gerry democrats accuse you and others who are raising these issues of Voter Suppression, that youre no. Jer jer a lot of people arent able to vote, its convenient. Especially in the age of a pandemic, they always say, look, people who are less likely to vote, what do you say to that . First of all, Voter Suppression is a fake term. It doesnt exist anywhere in the law. They use it to smear people. Secondly, they held an election in liberia during the ebola epidemic in 2014. Everybodys going to the grocery store. Im on the u. S. Commission on civil rights, and we voted down a report last month because it talked about africanamericans not having access to envelopes, and it was the soft bug ottly of bigotry of mail ballots, and i just dont accept the idea that people arent able to participate because some secretaries of state arent automatically mailing ball on thes to their concern ballots to their houses. Gerri finally, we may have a very close result. But theres going to be legal challenges, right . In state after state, every single some states people are going to demand close examination of those ballots to see whether or not they were accurate, whether there was fraud going on. How do you think this is going to unfold . Well, im fearful because we know in places that have had mail voting like nevada, thousands of ballots are being can eled for de canceled for defects. The democrats are highly lawyered up, they outspend the republicans in lawyering probably 20 to 1 because im in this space and i see it. I expect there to be a lot of postelection chaos because of the use of mail ballots which is another reason not to use them. We should is have an election with certainty where ball otts are clearly cast in person as much as possible. Gerry christian adams, youve laid out a very clear picture of the challenges there will be to the system and, indeed, the fundamental problems well be faced with, this widespread mailin voting and the old idea of secret ballots seems to me at least the most reliable and effective way to insure or that democracy works for sure. The nfl hopes this weeks kickoff will finally turn americas attention to whats happening on the field, not off. Thats next. I want to do everything i can to protect the environment to make sure they see the same beauty ive seen in nature. My goal is to lead projects that affect the world. I know that to be great requires hard work. Gerry on thursday sports fans were given a rare treat weve had only 20 times in history. The socalled sports equinox when the National Football league, the National Basketball association, the National Hockey league and Major League Baseball were all in action on the same day. That night the nfl season kicked off amid the usual fanfare with the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the Houston Texans 3420. But as that 020 Campaign Gets Underway this weekend, its clear that the league is facing controversy. Bowing to the prevailing political winds, the league made a number of simple boll you can gestures thursday night, for example, the playing of lift every voice and sing, various or displays of solidarity such as a sign saying end racism in the end zone. Now fans actually booed the players as they stood arms locked in what was described as a show of unity. So is the nfl in danger of becoming a Political Organization . And what might that do to the game . Well, here to talk about all this is former defensive back jack brewer whos ceo of the Consulting Firm the brewer group. Jack, thank you for joining us. Great to be with you. Gerry so thursday night, nfl kicks off, we had all those demonstrations. Again, sports fans watch people like you, sports brings people together, right . Its a way to bring everybody together. Is the nfl at risk of dividing people with these kind of demonstrations . I mean, this is a touch chu subject. I think for the nfl like any other business, this is not their expertise. They are not a Political Organization. They are a sports league, but at the same time they have players who are passionately involved with things off the field and the issues a that are pressing our society. I actually applaud the league for not being like the nba and Major League Baseball and taking on the support of black lives matter, the organization that is really antichrist and calling to dismantle the family unit which is actually causing the issues with Racial Disparities in america. So, you know, i actually applaud the nfl for not taking on that organizations rhetoric. I think when the players came together to show a sign of unity, i mean, thats what you should do, you know . I think teams should do that before and after the game. So ill never talk bad about that. I actually applaud them for doing that. I think when it gets touchy is when you start to incorporate the flag and the national anthem. I think thats why you saw the fans boo, is because the teams didnt actually come out for the national anthem. Which is their choice, you know, to peacefully protest if they choose, but its also the fans choice the boo. So you heard the response of that crowd last night. Gerry youre right. I should say youre actually right, unlike the nba, the nfl didnt formally embrace, but it has certainly gone back on when Colin Kaepernick first took the knee, and that was widely discouraged and condemned by many people, including the nfl. We saw some of the fans booing. Are we, is the nfl at risk of alienating fans but these kinds of displays . Were going to see more over the weekend too, presumably. I think they already have. I mean, whenever you have players like myself with the National Football league and the ability that god gave me to play in that league changed my life, the course of my familys life. So when people like me are hesitant to even watch because i dont want to see a display of an antichrist organization, and so i was on my heels, like, waiting to see what was going to happen myself. So i think they are in a situation where theyre not going to please everyone, but i dont think thats the job. I hope the players continue to have a message of unity. I hope the players continue to also talk about the great things that this nation has been able to do for africanamericans. I mean, we, you know, were finding ourselves in these times that were so focused on the negative, were so focused on the things that are bad that were not speaking were talking as if were still in slavery when, in fact, americas the only country where the citizens of all colors fought to end slavely for the slaves or free the shave ares. We have to also celebrate that. There were more white men fighting against slavery than for slavery, and so thats the reality of america, and lets just keep the reality out there front and center and address these Racial Disparities together [inaudible] so that we can actually effectuate change to peoples lives. Scwer jer the mixture of unity is a powerful one. You spoke at the Republican National convention. There does seem to be a significant number of africanamericans, perhaps even more not many, obviously, many, President Trump got about 8 of the africanamerican vote last time, but this time, do you think more and more africanamericans are somehow coming to support President Trump . And if so, why is that . I know they are. I think many africanamericans are realizing that theyve been lied to and deceived for so long from the Democratic Party. Youre talking about a party who now is saying that theyre against the same oppressive policies that they actually passed from slavery to jim crow and on and on again. You know, this is the party, the Republican Party is the party of Frederick Douglass and abraham lincoln. So were now just telling people the true history. Thats why you see so many africanamericans coming to the Republican Party. And it took a donald trump to actually make this issue and bring it front and center. It took donald trump to end mass incarceration which the Democratic Party put into place. It took donald trump to actually go against the Racial Disparity e in our Education System given historical black colleges and universities, longterm funding, fighting for the poor black kids that dont have fathers. This is the reality in america, and i think that black people are waking up and starting to support this awe amazing president thats done more for us than any gerry thats a remarkable message. Thank you very much. The president widely denounces racism by the media. Well, just ahead, the bravery that was shown by police on 9 11 made them heros. Now unbelievably, some actually might want to make them villains. Who is usaa made for . Its made for him a veteran who honorably served and its made for her shes serving now we also made usaa for military spouses and their kids become a member. Get an insurance quote today. Gerry this weekend we mark the 19th anniversary since the september 11 areth terror attacks that killed more more tn 3,000 americans. Among those murdered were some 400 First Responders including more than 60 Police Officers who rushed in to help when the World Trade Center towers were struck by airlines piloted by alqaeda terrorists. The reaction in new york city and around the country that terrible day to that bravery was to honor those selfless individuals. Sales of hats with the nypd logo soared. People regularly went up to Police Officers in the streets and thanked them for their service. What a long time ago that now seems. Told, because of a few instances of bad policing amplified by paneling rated media coverage, the police are portrayed as the enemy. Liberal leaders in many cities caving to the mobs, demanding a pound of flesh, moving to neuter Law Enforcement in those cities. The officers are responding to the auntpolice rhetoric by quitting in droves. Over the summer the number of nypd officers are retiring was up 75 . In chicago its doubled the usual number. At least a dozen big city chiefs turned in their badges in recent weeks. Rochesters chief and his entire command staff walked out in protest. The chief said he wasnt going to sit idly by while outside entities attempted to destroy his character. After 9 11 the United States was united for a while, united in its resolve to face down terror and united in it respect for the vital job that Law Enforcement does every day in protecting innocent people, many of them, many of those Law Enforcement officers making the ultimate sacrifice to save and protect lives. It really should not take another day like that for all americans to appreciate the work that those Law Enforcement officers do ever single day. Well, thats it for us this week.
