The first lady remains asymptomatic, experiencing around a mild cough and a headache. Our first guest tonight is here to give us a further understanding of what the president and the first lady are going through now. Shes a pulmonologist at nyu langone hospital and joining us tonight. Doctor, it is great to have you with us. A sense first, if you will, of because weve all been told anyone in their 70s is a prime target for this virus your assessment of the president as both patient and victim of this virus. So, first of all, its very important to say i am not treating the president , hes not i my patient, i dont have access to his medical records. So all i can say is what i know from the public, is we are concerned hes tested positive. Hes tested every day, so we know exactly when he became infected. We are worried about two things with the president. Certainly, hes in his 70s, and we know that as we become older, the virus does pose more of a risk. And we also know from the letters that his doctors have published in may that hes 63 and weighs 240 pounds which puts him just in the class i obesity. On the positive side, the president has a very high functional status. We know from his records that he normally takes just some cholesterol medicines and some aspirin, so overall he is very healthy, but that could change the odds for him. And above all, hes our president. He has enormous responsibility nationally and internationally, and hes at a critical time in the election. So were all praying for his speedy recovery, and most of all we wish the very best to his doctors and advisers who are really facing some really tough decisions. Lou the antibody cocktail of which they are now administering to the president , it is give us a sense of what it does, what its intended effect is. So im afraid i was in transit, so i couldnt hear what the cocktail is that youre referring to. Just tell me quickly what that is, please. Lou its the regeneron antibody cocktail as they its a treatment, obviously, for the virus. Im unfamiliar with it too, but and i had no idea yeah. And it has just emerged in trials, so the president is an early i see. Lou if you will, adopter. Right. So what i would say is i have not used that medication, im not familiar with it, but we do know from the various trials that have come out now that were ten months into the pandemic that the one thing that makes a huge impact is augmenting the patients immune response. The most famous of those medications is steroids that we know and are used in people who are much more seriously ill than what the president is being described. And immunomodulation channels some of the immune response to the virus. I think that that medication that they may be using is probably something to be used in exceptional circumstances because of his enormous responsibilities and because they know really day one when hes infected. We know there are many benefits to reducing the viral burden very early on in the disease process. Most of us that are asymptomatic dont even know that were infected so wouldnt be having access to that medication. But im sure thats sensible. Im not familiar with the details of the agent but can quickly become so. Lou the, the president , the first lady, obviously, are showing somewhat different symptoms. She is basically asymptomatic having only a mild cough, and the president being described as fatigued. Your thoughts about that, is that pretty much what you would expect . Yes, often. I mean, dont forget, he was tested and we heard that he was positive at 1 10 in the morning. He may have had a period of asymptomatic infection before that and not had any symptoms. It is unsurprising that hes fatigued, but also he keeps an incredibly rigorous schedule, so thats quite a nonspecific symptom, but i would expect that. And with respect, we want our first lady to become fully recovered as well, were very much praying for her too. A cough and a headache is symptoms. So she is not a asymptomatic as somebody earlier mentioned. But these are very common. Sometimes people will develop fever, but not everybodies that is acutely everybody that is acutely affected mounts a fever. Some people without a fever feel acutely infected, and sometimes we see people with tummy upset, a little bit of diarrhea, loss of taste, all those were very familiar with, and i can be very confident that the physicians that are looking after the president are watching for all of these things. Much more important to me and it may have been part of the Decision Making is how the president and the first lady are oxygenating, what their pulse ox is reading, what their blood gas is reading, what their xrays and chest egs are like. Were now in october. The virus or thats infecting them has changed in behaviors than the virus that infected my critically ill patients in march and april. So this is going to show resolution. Both the president and his wife are very likely to get better without needing any major aggressive interventions that were all fearful of and we dont really want to speak about. So im very optimistic, and im very hopeful, and i want the nation to be the same. Lou well, i think, i think most of us are certainly optimistic because this president is, without question, a man of great energy and drive, and right now i would say that he looks like hes going to be my guess is receiving the best care in the world. The fact that hes going to to the hospital, its sort of hard to know exactly how to read that. You know, the press secretary is saying an abundance of caution. I would think that given, you know, given the Politics Around this he wouldnt go to the hospital unless his physicians told him it was necessary. But, you know, from the outside its hard to know. The experience of boris johnson, the Prime Minister of england, you know, he was hospitalized for a number of days, and he was actually transferred to the intensive care unit and, ultimately, he recovered and hes, you know, hes been out of the hospital and fine for the last six months. But there were a few days when he was in the icu, and he has said that there was a chance that he would need to be ventilated, although he was not. Ventilation is a pretty serious step, and we should all hope it doesnt reach that point. I mean, i think whatever your politics are lou i think we should all hope that the president has a mild course here because, you know, or its bad for the country, you know, if he becomes serious lu ill. Lou yeah. I think this nation is still, its people are still decent enough that they can hope for the best for this president , pray for the best for this president. Period. Because the Justice Department is not intervening, the Justice Department is not in any way assuring electoral integrity. I have heard nothing from the Homeland Security department about what they are doing to assure the integrity of Voting Machines across the country and to prevent foreign what is really hilarious about this is the concern on the part of the left about russian and chinese and iranian influence in these elections. Theyre worried about that kind of meddling when the meddling we should be worried about is that of the left and the radical dems. They are out of control, theyve made it clear what theyre going to do. By the way, nothing short of burning down cities if the vote doesnt go their way. What are we dealing with, and why is it that the Justice Department has neither the principle, nor the courage to defend the constitution and protect the vote . Well, the Justice Department is largely run by leftwing partisan democrats, and theres a few appointees of President Trump. And, obviously, theyre riding a tiger over there, and theyre unable to do anything i effective in this area of the law. Im concerned therell be chaos about the it results to of the election because, as you know, the left plans to be counting votes weeks after election day. The left also plans, with the help of big tech, to suppress and censor concerns about voter fraud at this election without end that the left plans in order, in my view, to guarantee a result. And i might and if you read the New York Times, if you read their planning documents, theyre planning violence. Theyre planning to threaten secession from the union in order to get their Electoral College slate seated. Theyre planning to push at the congress and, if necessary according to the law, even Nancy Pelosis talking about this now, that if theres no lou so why is it no settled president by january 20th, lou, nancy pelosi, in theory, or becomes acting president. Lou the more proximate fear for me is that the Justice Department and the white house itself are seemingly paralyzed in inaction to stop what we are being told by the left themselves they will do. At what point does this rise to the level of insurrection . At a what point does the Justice Department is have to, are to stand up for the United States instead of a party . Namely, the party of hate . Well, i mean, in the least, lou, i hope theyre thinking about violence and intimidation around are election day and shortly thereafter. Places where votes are going to be counted, are they secure . What if antifa targets them . I know that youve expressed your best wishes to the president and the first lady. They, it is a were told by the white house physician that theyre transferring him to the Walter Reed Hospital, Medical Center if you prefer, for out of an abundance of caution which i think yes. Lou is exactly the right prescription out of an abundance of caution for any patient, but certainly for the president and the first lady. Your thoughts. Well, lou, i talk or communicated with several of husband inner circle today. They said the president was in great spirits. You know, he is as tough as a bull [laughter] and i think hes going to recover from this quite rapidly. Lou, this is a time for all americans to be praying for the president. And, look, thats easy for me to do. Hes a friend, i think hes the greatest president in my life time, if not history, but i think the bible says we should pray for those even if we dont support them. And, you know, there are people out there, i dont understand it, that actually hate this president. And as a pastor, nothing causes hate to disappear any more than praying for somebody. You cant hate somebody youre praying for. And so i would encourage everyone out there to pray for this president because, after all, in the end we are one nation under god. Lou we are. But god has chosen to let us make our way in this nation, and we find ourselves on the precipice of the abyss, in my opinion. And the left has made it clear where they want this country to go, which is basically to end this country as we know it and create something new. It is a very difficult thing for me to do, to rationalize what i hear from the left and the radical dems have become a party of hate. It is, its difficult for, i think, anyone who is religious, who is spiritual and who cared deeply about this country to tolerate much more of what were seeing. Well, thats right, lou. I mean, you have in washington, d. C. Saying a church of 100 cant meet outside, and yet they allow thousands of protesters to not just protest, but rye riot in the streets without any intervention at all. Thats the kind of agenda the left has, to shut down the churches, shut down people of faith and allow anarchy to reign. And thats why we must turn out on november 3rd or before to support the greatest president of our lifetime. If not, anarchy is going to rule, First Amendment rights are going to be squelched, and we wont be able to recognize this country three years from now if donald trump does not regain reelection. Lou well, i think he is the historic president of oured modern era in this country, and certainly with Abraham Lincoln the greatest president. In my judgment, even without all of that hed still be an easy man to pray for, and i know that everybody watching here this evening will join you in doing so. Yes.
