As restaurants and non-essential businesses in Windsor-Essex enjoyed their first weekend with face-to-face customer interaction since December, the local health unit was working to nab anyone ignoring pandemic rules.
Tobacco and vaping enforcement officers laid charges against six businesses for violating the Reopening Ontario Act — four restaurants for exceeding capacity limits, and two personal service settings for non-compliance with masking requirements.

Under the red zone of the province’s COVID-19 response framework, which Windsor-Essex entered on Feb. 16, restaurants must limit indoor dining to 10 patrons at a time, with a maximum of four people sharing one table. Masks cannot be removed inside salons and barber shops.
