Hmong New Year traditions in the U.S. recall ancestral spirits while teaching new generations

Late fall is the most spiritual time of the year in traditional Hmong culture. For many elders and spiritual leaders, it's critical that these traditions — brought from Southeast Asia which the Hmong had to flee after helping the U.S. in the Vietnam War — be passed on to the diaspora youth.
