Just after she disappeared. Theres Nothing Holding me back and the da vinci code cracked. The mystery buyer of that 450 million masterpiece finally revealed and where is the most expensive painting in the world headed . Good morning, america. There is a lot going on this thursday morning. Front and center those devastating wildfires in california. They are on the move. More than 110,000 acres already destroyed and there are new concerns about when. Want to take another look at the fire right outside Six Flags Magic Mountain park in santa clarita. Wow. Wow. And a lot of people are talking about this piece of video right here. See this man . Apparently trying to save a rabbit. So close to the flames. But everyone just doing whatever they can to help. Such a dangerous situation right now. You can see so many people are trying to escape and their cars are surrounded by flames on one of the busiest highways in the country. That right there is the 405 right in the middle of los angeles. Our team is spread out across the fire zone. Abcs matt gutman starts us off in bel air. Good morning, matt. Reporter hey, good morning, michael. The wind here has really started to pick up. You can see those ashes flying. Now this area hasnt burned in 50 years which is why it burns so hot. I want to give you a sense of how hot. This is a roof tile completely brittle. All thats left of this but right now, the crick fire 40 miles away from here is burning out of control for the Third Straight day. Reporter this morning, the massive thomas fire is terrorizing Ventura County and shows no signs of slowing. Its fueled by winds up to 80 miles an hour and it has already devoured more than 90,000 acres around Ventura County. I never seen a fire like that before. Reporter those flames leaping over the Pacific Coast highway tearing through neighborhoods in ojai. Its dangerous out there. Reporter thousands of new mandatory evacuations ordered, residents taken out of this nursing home one by one. This as wildfires rage all across Southern California. Look at this. Reporter the hillsides around los angeles 405 freeway exploding with fire casting that eerie orange glow as motorists skirted through that hellscape. Attempting to prevent the fire from jumping west of the 405. Reporter the 405 is one of the busiest interstates in the country, and its ninemile closure caused a traffic nightmare. The fire throwing a cloud of smoke over the getty museum and its horde of priceless art. It didnt spare homes in bel air, one of the most exclusive neighbors in america. Right behind me theyre blasting away at this fire with whatever they can. Trying to save these homes. This is obviously not easy. Help came from the air. Swarms of choppers. The helicopter overhead now. Its dropping water right now so might get wet. In areas that havent burned in generations, we found ron at the husk of his neighbors palatial home. Its still burning. Hasnt been a fire here since 61 when we had the bel air fire. Reporter at least seven firefighters injured in Southern California. This one overcome by smoke and heat. Are you just hot . Yeah, i was just hot. Reporter over 150,000 people evacuated. But as this woman and her family stay behind there you go. With some help fighting to protect their neighbors homes. It was like a war zone in our backyard. Fires were coming all over. Reporter back in Ventura County, some residents going home to survey the damage. Its devastating. Sorry. Grateful we have our home but very sad for my neighbors and the way my neighbors look and its just horrible. Reporter now this fire is called the skirball fire. It scorched the mountains you see around me. Not considered a huge fire, but it flared up right in the heart of gee grafblle los angeles. And this is near the getty museum, and to give you an idea of how many people were affected, the l. A. School district has closed 265 schools. That means over 100,000 kids are staying home this morning, guys. The biggest blaze burning is that thomas fire in Ventura County, and our marcus moore is there. Marcus, youre already seeing so much destruction. Reporter robin, good morning. We have seen a lot of destruction here in Ventura County, and right now we are watching the flames as they work their way down the 101 freeway, which is a major artery here in california. These are at the center median, and i want you to look up on that hill. Those flames reaching into the sky and that thick, black smoke is billowing into the air. For much of the morning, they have closed they have the 101 freeway closed in both directions, but since that time, they have reopened it as these flames continue to move farther to the south, but they have intensified and they will die back down again, but certainly the smoke will make it slow going for people who are traveling down the 101 as we get close to the rush hour in the midst of this catastrophe that has been unfolding. Look to my right as the traffic continues to head to the south. Look at the flames burning. On the other side of the ridge are homes here in Ventura County, and thats what fire crews have been working to protect all morning long, and since the thomas fire broke out. And this fire is absolutely massive. It has scorched some 90,000 acres here, and it does continue to spread. And certainly as we are here on the 101 freeway, we are seeing traffic moving and their decision to close this roadway overnight was not a light decision because they know how important this route is to move people and to move equipment, but they had to close it because accidents happened yesterday as people watched these flames as they spread here in Ventura County. Robin, thats the very latest. Back to you. Marcus, thank you. Another major fire burning in the east. Rob marciano is there in sylmar, california. The winds kicking up making it so hard to fight these fires. Reporter that has been the main story with this george. The story is up in the hills. As that sun comes up over the hill, we expect the winds to intensify. Its already come through this neighborhood. Dozens of homes have burned in this fire, and these vehicles check this out. The windows are blown out. Look how hot this fire was. This metal, completely melted here. Talking to resident last night, they are sad, frustrated and scared to what is about to come today. They are more than 150,000 people with evacuation orders. We expect the winds to kick up later today. The hope is, ginger, that the winds dont blow as strong or for as long as what were forecasting. And rob, we are so grateful that you are on the ground there and safe. And you can see right behind you, youre very calm, but where we saw marcus, the wind kicked up very quickly as we were watching him. Thats how the gusts will work throughout today. This was the image that you saw from the cockpit of the l. A. County Fire Department as they were firing that skirball fire, and really over bel air there with images from the satellite, and the International Space station shows the air blowing and air quality horrible. Thats Something Else to keep in mind as we go through. Back to those winds. We will see gusty, offshore winds, especially in the peaks, and outside san diego today. 60 to 90 Miles Per Hour gusts. Going through the afternoon, they could pick up a little bit. Look at anaheim, close to 30, and this is this afternoon as we go through the 2 00 p. M. Hour. Saturday looks like a reprieve, but i have to tell you, saturday into sunday, its still looking rather gusty because we have that great basin high sending the winds offshore. This thing not done. Far from being fought. Were grateful for the firefighters, but well head back to you all. Now to capitol hill where senator al franken is expected to make that announcement about his future as calls grow for him to resign. From members of his own party among accusations of Sexual Misconduct. Dozens of Democratic Senators now say he should step aside. Our senior Congressional Correspondent mary bruce has the very latest from washington. Good morning, mary. Reporter good morning, robin. The chorus calling for franken to go is deafening. It started yesterday when yet another accuser came forward. Shortly after a handful of Democratic Women said enough is enough. A coordinated push that forced open the floodgates and now at least 39 senators say franken should resign, and later today franken will announce his response. Facing an avalanche of calls for him to go. We need to draw a line in the sand and say none of it is okay. None of it is acceptable. Reporter this morning multiple democratic sources tell abc news that senator al franken is expected to announce his resignation. The second highprofile lawmaker forced out this week over allegations of Sexual Misconduct. Probably in the best interest of a lot of people for him to resign. What was the Tipping Point here . Todays revelations just further add to a fact pattern here thats just unacceptable. Reporter the allegations against franken have been piling up. Two more accusers came out wednesday bringing the total to eight. One reportedly says franken tried to forcibly kiss her and that he told her, its my right as an entertainer. Franken called that allegation categorically not true and preposterous. I am embarrassed. I feel ashamed. Reporter franken has apologized to other accusers and tried to turn the page calling for an ethics investigation. And for weeks that seemed to be enough for democrats. I know there are no magic words that i can say to regain your trust. Reporter but on capitol hill, that trust from his colleagues appears to be gone. Now, behind the scenes im told democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, has been urging franken to resign, making the case on the phone and in person over the last 24 hours for him to step aside. George, franken is expected to make that announcement later today on the senate floor. He had been such a close ally of al franken, Chuck Schumer so that was a big loss. Were going to move on now to that new fallout from president trumps move to recognize jerusalem as israels capital, and ultimately move the u. S. Embassy there. The president called the dramatic break a step toward peace but it is drawing a fierce reaction in the area and condemnation from a chorus of world leaders. Our chief Global Affairs correspondent, Martha Raddatz has all the latest from washington. Good morning, martha. Reporter good morning, george. Outside of israeli support there has been condemnation of president trumps move across the globe. From the arab world to european leaders who have called it regrettable, unhelpful and Palestinian LeaderMahmoud Abbas said the announcement could lead to wars that never end and shows that the u. S. Can no longer be an honest broker in the Peace Process and on the west bank you see there there have been protests this morning with Israeli Police firing teargas into a crowd, but so far, the protests have been relatively small. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson in vienna this morning is calling the president s move just a recognition of reality since israel has most of its government offices in jerusalem, george. Yeah, one of the questions will the protest escalate . And at the heart there are competing claims over the status of jerusalem and what it means for the Peace Process. Reporter exactly. Its been assumed that if a twostate solution was agreed East Jerusalem would be the palestinian capital and west would be for the israelis but president trumps announcement changes that putting the u. S. Clearly on the side of the israelis claiming it all, george. Martha raddatz, thanks very much. And george, there are also new developments in the russia investigation. Were learning more about what the president s son don junior did and didnt answer when he was grilled for hours by the House Intelligence Committee over that meeting with the russian lawyer in trump tower. Our senior justice correspondent Pierre Thomas has more from washington. Good morning, pierre. Reporter robin, good morning. It was a high stakes eighthour marathon session behind closed doors. Much of it focusing on that controversial 2016 meeting at trump tower between Senior Trump Campaign officials and the russians. Democrats on the committee wanting to know whether donald trump jr. Asked for and received dirt on Hillary Clinton during that meeting and who if anyone did he report to about the meeting. They also wanted to know what he discussed with his father, the president , when the story about the meeting broke and donald trump jr. Released the initial misleading statement when the post went up that he claimed, russian contact was about adoption. He acknowledged discussing that matter with his father but refused to answer questions about that discussion. Reporter would not answer any questions about the substance of conversation . Not on this topic. When we asked him about his discussions with his father after the emails became public he and his attorney invoked Attorney Client privilege which we do not applies here. Reporter but republicans had a far more generous view of the grilling. Hes answered everything, answered everything honestly, totally, unequivocally. Reporter any evidence of collusion . Absolutely no. Reporter at one point sources tell us abc news that trumps lawyers wanted to know how much longer. The sources said congressman adam schiff mentioned that Hillary Clinton sat for 11 hours on questioning on benghazi. Trump junior shot back. Thats different. Four americans were killed. Theres new details youre saying about who don junior spoke with in trump tower. Reporter while sources say don junior would not discuss his conversations with his father about the statement concerning the trump tower meeting he did acknowledge discussing the matter with hope hicks, the current director of communications for the white house. She may soon be interviewed. Lots of developments on the russia investigation including this new evidence from capitol hill that Michael Flynn when he was first, the president S National Security adviser, was determined to get rid of russian sanctions. Reporter a key democrat on the House Oversight committee released an account from a whistleblower who claims that a flynn Business Partner got a text message from flynn stating that a project about Nuclear Reactors was, quote, good to go. The reason according to congressman elijah cummins, flynn believes sanctions on russia would be, quote, ripped up. Pierre, thanks very much. Lets get more on this now from jon karl, also in washington. Jon, as muellers investigation intensifies, as the congressional investigations intensify youre seeing more questions from the president s team and his allies about that mueller investigation. Reporter youre seeing an allout effort by people close to the president to try to discredit the special counsels investigation, sean hannity. The fox news host and occasional adviser to the president said this week that mueller is a disgrace to the american justice system. George, a lot of this is zeroing in on the member of muellers team that we learned over the weekend was fired over the summer, peter strzok for sending Text Messages to another member of muellers team showing that he clearly favored Hillary Clinton in the president ial election. He is, one official called, the forrest gump of all of this. He worked both on the Hillary Clinton email investigation, and he was until he was fired, a member of the mueller team. Meantime, on another matter were still facing this Government Shutdown tomorrow but it looks like theyll be able to kick the can down the road a couple weeks. Reporter it does, the four congressional top leaders, democrat, republican, will be at the white house and george, i expect well see an extension of government funding just until december 22nd, so the shutdown showdown is simply deferred. Jon karl, thanks very much. Once again, once again deferred. Keep pushing it off. Its not going to go away, though, thats the key. Thats right. You know, as we told you earlier Southern California is in kriez mode this morning facing those wildfires, but in all of this, there is a moment of hope. Don and julie meyers from ventura, when they went back home to see if they could salvage anything, and you wont believe what they found. They found julies wedding ring. Don got down on one knee and proposed for a second time solidifying himself as the most romantic guy out there. And, guys, give a big thank you to don for reminding us that, you know, you can replace things, but theres nothing more important than your family and especially important to remember this Holiday Season right now, so, don, julie, thank you for that. Lets go back to ginger. Were talking about snow that was falling in buffalo, up to four inches around there. Now to that dating app mystery. Police finding a body they believe to be a young woman who went missing after a tinder date and amy now two people are such a tragic and sad story. One of the two people now in Police Custody is the young woman who met sydney on tinder. The other woman, the other is that womans roommate. A much older man who prosecutors call a habitual criminal. Reporter the last time family and friends saw 24yearold sydney loofe was in this snapchat as she was preparing for a second date with a woman she met on tinder. Just like so many others, the popular dating app leading to 1 million dates a week. Loofe seen smiling in the photo on november 15th writing, ready for my date before vanishing. Now her date, 23yearold Bailey Boswell, and 51yearold bob aubrey trail being called persons of interest by nebraska police. By their own statements on social media, we believe that aubrey trail and Bailey Boswell were two of the last people to have known to have been with sydney prior to her disappearance. Reporter the search for loofe beginning when she missed a shift at the Home Improvement store where she worked. Her worried family pleading for help. Someone knows something. Please, please do the right thing. Thank you. Reporter police and the fbi beginning their search combing through digital evidence and looking for boswell and trail who left town after sydneys disappearance. We have spent the last few days watching ourselves being slammed and crucified this in newspapers and we thought it was time we had our say. Reporter the two posting this now deleted video to social media. Shes a sweet, amazing girl. Reporter boswell saying she dropped sydney off after their date. She asked me to drop her off at a friends house so i did so. I gave her my number. I mean i havent heard from her since. Reporter the pair now in Police Custody reportedly being held on a federal person of interest warrant in the disappearance of loofe and tuesday, 20 days after she vanished, digital clues leading authorities to what they believe to be loofes body. We do believe that there is evidence of foul play. Reporter sydney loofes family reacting to the news on facebook saying, may god grant eternal rest unto thee. We love you, sydney. Her friends telling us she was careful when using the dating app. She usually sent a picture of the person she was going on a date with and let us know whether it was going to be at her house, their house or in public. It sounds like she did everything right. Now according to the pew research center, 15 of american dulls have used an Online Dating site or mobile dating app, and a spokesperson for tinder issued this statement in regards to sydney loofe. We are deeply saddened by this horrific tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims family and loved ones and we are fully cooperating with Law Enforcement in this investigation. So, amy, lets bring in dan abrams and Callahan Walsh of the National Center of missing and exploited children to talk more about this. We heard a new report. Police say they suspect foul play. Those two people in custody havent been charged. What do you think are the key pieces of evidence here . Yeah. They are being held on other outstanding warrants. It seems the two key pieces of evidence are digital evidence meaning you have the snapchat where she says, im going on a date. Then youve got her phone and thats how they were able to find the body, but it also apparently links it back to the home of the two suspects here. Whats so fascinating is this video. That they have put out denying it. They are basically going after the media, they are going after the police. They are admitting they have committed crimes in the past, but they are saying again and again and again, we didnt do this. We werent responsible. How does that video affect the investigation . Well, look, it certainly is going to be evidence. Anything you say will be used against you. And so that can be used against them in the context of this. I think that video while theyre trying to say this proves we didnt do it. This proves weve been trying to be helpful to the police is part of the reason they have gone after them, and i dont think they helped themselves at all, where at the end of the video, they flip off the police. That doesnt help. No, that never helps. We know you primarily work with children. But when it comes to, callahan, online safety, staying safe being online. You say the rules are pretty similar here. They are, you know. We tell kids all the time the number one rule is you dont meet somebody out in the real world that youve only met online. Yet for some reason we think that once we become adults were immune to that and were not. You know, these cases are rare. These social media and dating sites dont want this happening to their users, but we need to stay hypervigilant when using these. Callahan, what about the companies behind these apps and these websites . What are they doing to try to make sure the people who are using them stay safe . Well, the major ones are really trying to do all the right things. Again, they dont want this happening to their users, and they reach out to us at the National Center. Were on the trust and Safety Council of many of these sites and help them create and craft policy to make sure users are safe on these platforms but, again, you know, like i said, these are rare cases, but they do happen. The suspect here is admitting she was on a date with her but saying it wasnt me. Shes saying this has nothing to do with that date at all. I dropped her off at a friends house and thats the last i saw of her. This is watching the videos of these two is just bizarre. It is, it is. Callahan, thank you, dan, as always. All right, george. Charged with encouraging attacks against the young prince. Prosecutors say he even shared a picture of the 4yearold online, gave out the address of his school and warned the royal family will not be left alone. Our chief foreign correspondent, terry moran is at Kensington Palace with details. Good morning, terry. Reporter good morning, george. The British Royal family are among the highest profile terror targets in the world along with people like the u. S. President and the pope. And in this country, which has seen five terror attacks in 2017, the threat is very real even for the little ones. This morning british authorities have charged this man with two terrorism offenses after prosecutors say he threatened Prince George allegedly posting a picture of the 4yearold royal with details about the princes preschool on social media. Along with an ominous message that prosecutors say was meant to help others plan terror attacks. Hes been arrested and to have the evidence kind of against him then it must have been kind of quite credible. Reporter british media reported the picture Husnain Rashid posted showed the young royal on his way to school with silhouettes of isis fighters and text saying, the royal family would not be left alone. Its not the First Security scare for the royal family. This incident comes just months after a Security Breach on Prince Georges first day of preschool back in september. Authorities say this royal superfan, 40yearold louise gentry, gained unauthorized access to his school not one, but twice in 24 hours. Authorities characterized the the woman as mentally ill after detaining her near the school. In 2003, a comedian dressed in traditional arab garb skirted security at Windsor Castle crashing prince williams 21st Birthday Party and got all the way to the prince even kissing him on both cheeks. Last year a man was arrested seven minutes after scaling the wall of Buckingham Palace but back in the early 80s a then33yearold michael fact fagan was able to scale that same wall before climbing up a drainpipe and breaking into the palace. Then wandering into the queens bedroom and waking her. She woke up and spoke to him for ten minutes until security arrived. However, recently the threat is evolving. The type of terrorists were looking at is somewhat different. They are looking to achieve an ideology rather than possibly any form of financial or political motivation which makes them therefore more dangerous. Reporter and all eyes are on the next royal wedding. Tens of thousands expected to line the streets outside Windsor Castle. The queen and many others will be present when harry and meghan take their vows at the chapel there. Before meghan walks down the aisle the newest princess will receive security training. Just as kate did before her 2011 nuptials to prince william. The police will teach prince harrys bridetobe how to react in an emergency situation like a terror attack or being taken hostage. Along with all the protocols and privileges and responsibilities shell learn, security as well, part of the education of a princess in the 21st century. George. Terry, such a scary time in great britain. Yesterday you brought us that threat against 10 downing street, the prime minister. So theyre not going to be coming off this highest state of alert. Reporter no, they wont. In fact, if anything, one of the things that British Security services have said is that they also thwarted nine terror attack this is year. The pace is very intense, and right now, the Security Services are almost outmanned by the number of people who want to attack targets like this, george. Okay, terry moran, thanks very much. And next coming up on our big board, who paid a record 450 million for that da vinci masterpiece . Was it you robin . Yeah. Was it you, amy . Was it you george . We move on to capitol hill and that announcement coming from democratic senator al franken as calls grow for him to resign in the wake of those Sexual Misconduct accusations. Lets go back to mary bruce in washington. Good morning, mary. Reporter good morning, george. There is now a tidal wave of calls for franken to go. This all started yesterday when yet another accuser came forward shortly after, a handful of Democratic Women came out and said enough is enough launching a coordinated push and now at least 39 senators are calling on franken to resign. The accusations against the minnesota senator have been piling up. Eight women now accuse franken of Sexual Misconduct and groping. Now, the senator denies some of those allegations but has apologized for others and tried to make amends but clearly it has not been enough for his colleagues here on the hill. Franken is now expected to make an announcement later today on the senate floor and multiple democratic sources tell us he is expected to resign. George. We will be watching. Okay, mary, thanks very much. We certainly will. We had our dancing shoes on last night. It was a big party for ginger, her book party for her new beautiful memoir. Natural disaster. Where you so beautifully openly, candidly open up about every aspect of your life, talking about depression, which has really touched a lot of people, and its flying off the bookshelves because its already the publisher already ordered a reprint. If you didnt get it, its coming back. I promise. It was such a good party to see family, friends, people that i hadnt seen for a long time. My old students and, of course, all of you your bright and shiny faces. It really it was almost too much emotionally to have all that support and love. But i have to thank everybody who has not only read and bought the book but the people that reached out after we had our interview and told me their stories because thats what this conversation is starting and its unbelievable to hear how many people have been touched by this and how many people hope to see the sun shine some day. I am grateful for those. When you said that, you know what my momma said, make your mess your message and you have done that. I took that to heart. Did you expect this reaction though . I expected some. I dont think i even knew how pervasive and how, you know, in every viewer, so many viewers that reached out immediately, i dont think i knew how many people had lost loved ones to suicide. That heaviness, that gravity i wasnt prepared for but i am so pleased. Youll get that kind of connection for a long time. Especially this time of the year. The holidays, because everybody thinks its supposed to be a joyous time and she made rachael ray cry. She made rachael ray cry. And thats the thing. Good morning to you, guys. Good morning to you all and to you. We begin with this, its been a huge year for tennis superstar serena williams, right. In january 2017 she won the Australian Open and announced she was pregnant. In september she gave birth to her daughter alexa. In november she married alexas dad Alexis Ohanian and looks like shell finish the year by training for her comeback. Thats right, everybody. According to the organizers of the Australian Open the defending champ has entered the tournament. Shes gotten her visa. She is training to compete for a repeat just 4 1 2 months after giving birth. Her coach saying the final decision will be made very soon but there is no question that is the plan. That is the hope. And much to the dismay im sure of some of serenas competitors. The Australian Open starts january 15th. If you do it, serena, were rooting for you. What a story. Tell you what, i have never given birth, but, boy, that sounds like something amazing to do. What, give birth. Ive never given birth but it seems hard thats some headline. To compete at that level. Remember, when she was very pregnant she was still out there on the court. She was still working out so shes Something Else. Shes Something Else. Other worldly so we wish her the best. Also in pop news this morning, another fabulous lady, Sandra Bullock in the news talking about one of the big movies for 2018, the allfemale reboot of oceans eleven. This one is called oceans 8. You may have heard of it. A lot looking forward to in it she will play debbie ocean the sister of George Clooneys character, danny ocean. I guess being a thief runs in the family. Her team of cool cat burglars work to swipe a priceless neck lace at the new york met gala. When asked if she was worried about a backlash from haters and online trolls who dont want a remake of oceans 11, and definitely not from women, the oscar women tells entertainment weekly, quote, how about we take a breath and see if we come up with something fun. That seems like a good idea. Doesnt it . There should be a rule to say youre not allowed to say anything nasty until the movie comes out. There you go. Its really simple. [ applause ] but the cast is prepared. Bullock says, quote, we have some feisty women that will fight right back. And with costars like cate blanchett, mindy kaling and rihanna, the ensemble, we have no doubt that that is true. It hits theaters on june 8th. [ applause ] amy robach, arent you making a cameo in that . If i dont end up on the edit room floor, yes, yes. [ applause ] another feisty woman. Another feisty woman. Love it. Good save there. Remember when you did that . That was a late night. But it was so fun. I loved being on the set. At the met gala. So cool. Well discuss. Finally, everybody, motown legend diana ross aint no Mountain High enough any excuse to play this song, but we have news here. Diana ross is finally releasing her first fragrance called diamond diana. In that bottle that looks like a giant diamond, the scent is inspired by the powerful connection between music and sensual memories. In a note inside the box diana ross writes, sensual scents are carried heart to heart like music but to really get a sense of how this perfume smells lets hear from her daughter, shall we, the incredible tracee ellis ross. If you guys dont know this, my mom always smells delicious. And this smells just like her. Ahhhhh delicious miss ross is selling it through hsn. 75 and as she says, everyone should have a diamond. Why not. Thank you, lara. [ applause ] now lets bring back amy again. All right, guys. We move on to that passionate message from Jimmy Kimmels wife Molly Mcnearney opening up about their 7monthold billys Health Battle and how it affected their family. Billy by the way is thankfully doing very well after another heart surgery this week. But it has been an incredibly tough journey, one they hope will help others. Billy was born with a heart disease. Reporter jimmy kimmel breaking down sharing the details of his newborn sons open heart surgery three days after his birth in april. So we put the baby in an ambulance to childrens hospital, los angeles, and on monday morning, doctor starns opened his chest and fixed one of the two defects in his heart. Reporter now in an essay for the hollywood reporter, Molly Mcnearney, kimmels wife is sharing her version of their sons story. And what it was like to watch her husband pour his heart out. I sobbed through the entire thing, she writes. He didnt have to do that. Our family has Excellent Health care. He had nothing to gain from that. He did it for the other people who we met in that hospital. He came home that night and i just hugged him and i wouldnt let go. If your baby is going to die and it doesnt have to, it shouldnt matter how much money you make. I think thats something that whether youre a republican or a democrat or Something Else, we all agree on that, right . I mean we do. [ cheers and applause ] reporter i sat down with kimmel in october. Was there a moment when you decided, im now going to take something very personal and very real and im going to try to change the mood of not only america but our lawmakers. Its not something that i discussed with anyone other than my wife. But i did know that i had to say something. I always try to make something good out of something bad, you know, and in this case i thought, all right, well, what can i do or say that might potentially make some good out of this, maybe make me feel like this happened for a reason. Reporter mcnearney writes people were sending letters to our home attacking both of us on twitter saying things like we deserve this. Its been harder for me to deal with than the weekly cardiologist appointments and making sure my baby is breathing properly. She had to totally stop looking at her mentions on twitter. That one person who criticized them and accuses them of trying to politicize their kids illness just shakes her so much that she cant look at any of the comments. Reporter now she says she has no regrets sharing the very personal details of her sons Health Journey with the world writing, if we were to do this all over again and someone said, you would have an opportunity to have a perfectly healthy baby boy, i would take the one we got because i think it helped a lot of families and thank god this will, fingers crossed, end in a positive way. And jimmys guest host last night Neil Patrick Harris updating viewers on billys condition and says the latest heart surgery was, in fact, a success. His respirator is out and billy is eating and smiling. Robin. Were so happy to hear about that and thank you, thank you for how they are sharing their story because they are helping other families. To a gma health alert about Birth Control and Breast Cancer. A new study in the new england journal of medicine says women who use the pill may face a higher risk. Dr. Ashton, you got to explain. Big story. This is the actual study hot off the presses. It came out of denmark. They looked at 1. 8 million women followed them for ten years, found that those women who took hormonal contraception and this includes the progesterone releasing iud as well as the newer generation low dose Birth Control pills face take a look at the numbers up to a 20 to 21 increased associated risk of Breast Cancer. The hard numbers i want people to know about results in 13 more cases of Breast Cancer for every 100,000 women, but the real number i want to stick out in peoples minds, robin, because so many young women and teenagers take the pill and are using the iud, this only increases the risk in that age group of 2 extra cases for 100,000 women under the age of 35 because Breast Cancer is uncommon in that age. That is very key to put that up, but okay. Still people are going to be women will be concerned about this because it is a method that women use. You have to remember the benefits. We talk about risks and we talk about benefits. Take a look at the list. There are a plethora of benefits to hormonal contraception ranging from a very effective way of preventing pregnancy. Known to low her the risk of ovarian and uterine cancer and they are the mainstay of how we manage things like e endometriosis, and treat acne, and help women with their periods. We cant throw out the baby with the bath water so to speak. You are a Board Certified ob gyn. Whats your advice . I think this is a significant important study. I think it has to be interpreted in the proper context. I think women need to remember the risk, benefits and options and i think whats important about this study is the risk is different based on the womans age and the duration of use so a woman in their 40s who faces a higher risk of Breast Cancer may want to consider other methods and if youre going to discontinue hormonal contraception because of this, i would recommend you stop Drinking Alcohol as well because that increases your risk. It has to be a conversation and, robin, my 18yearold daughter is on the pill. Im not going to recommend that she stop. Okay. You heard it here. Important stuff. It is important stuff and people should talk to their doctor. Their children and talk to their doctors. It is a dialogue. Ginger . Lets go to your gma moment, shall we, everybody . The part where we smile and laver because 3yearold logan thinks that hes hula hooping. See how he just he just holds it up around his shoulders and he gives a little shimmy. Great holiday crafts for your family. Busy philipps, all the goods in welcome back. Busy announcer now reporting george stephanopoulos. Good mornin good mornin senate floor. Al franken responding to calls asking for his resignation. I felt we had entered an important moment in the history of this country. We were finally beginning to listen to women about the ways in which mens actions affect them. The moment was long overdue. I was excited for that conversation and hopeful that it would result in real change that made life better for women all across the country and in every part of our society. Then the conversation turned to me. Over the last few weeks a number of women have come forward to talk about how they felt my actions had affected them. I was i was shocked. I was upset. In responding to their claims i also wanted to be respectful of that broader conversation because all Women Deserve to be heard and their experiences taken seriously. I think that was the right thing to do. I also think it gave some people the false impression that i was admitting to doing things that in fact i havent done. Some of the allegations against me are simply not true. Others i remember very differently. I said at the outset that the Ethics Committee was the right venue for these allegations to be heard and investigated and evaluated on their merits, that i was prepared to cooperate fully and that i was confident in the outcome. You know, an important part of the conversation weve been having the last few months has been out how men abuse their power and privilege to hurt women. I am proud that during my time in the senate i have used my power to be a champion of women and that i have earned a reputation as someone who respects the women i work alongside every day. I know theres been a very different picture of me painted over the last few weeks, but i know who i really am. Serving in the United States senate has been the great honor of my life. I know in my heart that nothing i have done as a senator, nothing, has brought dishonor on this institution. I am confident that the Ethics Committee would agree. Nevertheless today i am announcing that in the coming weeks i will be resigning as a member of the United States senate. I of all people am aware there is some irony by the fact that i am leaving while a man who bragged on tape about his history of Sexual Assault sits in the oval office and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the senate with the full support of his party. This decision is not about me. Its about the people of minnesota. It has become clear that i cant both pursue the Ethics Committee process and at the same time remain an effective senator for them. Let me be clear, i may be resigning my seat, but im not giving up my voice. I will continue to stand up for the things i believe in as a citizen and as an activist. Minnesota deserves a senator who can focus with all her energy on addressing the challenges they face every day. There is a big part of me that will always regret having to walk away from this job with so much work left to be done. But i have faith that the work will continue because i have faith in the people who have helped me do it. I have faith in the dedicated, funny, selfless, brilliant young men and women on my staff. They have so much more to contribute to our country. I hope that as disappointed as they may feel today, everyone who has worked for me knows how much i admire and respect them. I have faith in my colleagues, especially my senior senator. I would not have been able to do this job without her guidance and wisdom. I have faith or at least hope, that members of this senate will find the political courage necessary to keep asking the tough questions, hold this Administration Accountable and stand up for the truth. I have faith in the activists who organized and helped me win my First Campaign and who have kept on organizing to help fight for the people who needed us, kids facing bullying, seniors worried about the price of prescription drugs, native americans who have been overlooked for far too long, working people who have been taking it on a chin for a generation, everyone in the middle class and everyone aspiring to join it. I have faith in the proud legacy of Progressive Advocacy that i have had the privilege to be a part of. I think i probably repeated these words 10,000 times over the years. Paul well stones famous quote the future belongs to those who are passionate and work hard. Its still true. It will always be true. Most of all i have faith in minnesota. A big part of this job is going around the state and listening to what people need from washington. More often than not when im home i am blown away by how much minnesota has to offer the entire country and the entire world. The people ive had the honor of representing are brilliant and creative and hard working and whoever holds this seat next will inherit the challenge ive enjoyed for the last 8 1 2 years being as good as the people you serve. This has been a tough few weeks for me. I am a very, very lucky man. I have a beautiful, Healthy Family that i love and that loves me very much. Im going to be just fine. I just like to end with one last thi thing. I did not grow up wanting to be a politician. I came to this relatively late in life. I had to learn a lot on the fly. It wasnt easy and it wasnt always fun. Im not just talking about today. This is a hard thing to do with your life. There are a lot of long hours and late nights and hard lessons. There is no guarantee that all your work and sacrifice will ever pay off. I won my first election by 312 votes. Could have easily gone the other way. Even when you win progress is far from inevitable. Paul well stone spent his whole life working for mental life pairty and it didnt pass until six years after paul died. This year a lot of people who didnt grow up imagining that they would ever get involved in politics have done just that. Theyve gone to their first protest march or made their first call to a member of congress or maybe even taken the leap and put their names on a ballot for the first time. It can be such a rush to look around a room of a room full of people ready to fight alongside you. You feel that energy to imagine that Better Things are possible. You too will experience there will be days where youll wonder whether its worth it. What i want
