Followed by academic work, with colleges assessing that work in light of obstacles. There are so many different ways that schools have managed to complete a year, that were expecting students transcripts will look different. Reporter as far as service, the focus is on contributions that are meaningful and authentic, not creating a Public Service olympics in response to the pandemic. Are you helping out more at home . Concerns mounting among parents about that inflammatory syndrome striking some children thats linked with covid19. I spoke earlier with dr. Alok patel. Dr. Patel, new research is out this morning on that mystery syndrome linked to covid19 thats affecting children. Doctors are now reporting nearly 300 cases. One study finding 80 of the children required intensive care. What are we learning about this syndrome and what dont we know . What were learning right now about this syndrome, which doctors are calling multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, is there does seem to be some type of association, maybe a temporal association, with these inflammatory symptoms children are having and a previous covid19 infection. 80 of these kids are winding up in the icu two to four weeks after possibly getting covid19. So there is a suspicion that these two are linked. But we dont know exactly why. And unfortunately how widespread this could be as we see more cases across the country. The antiviral drug remdesivir is providing some hope when it comes to treating covid19. The maker of drug Just Announced the price tag, more than 3,100 for a fiveday treatment. The drug company says the price reflects its goal of worldwide distribution. Your thoughts on that price . My thoughts first and foremost is we need a lot more transparency about why the drug is costing more money in the United States than other developed countries. One Consumer Group says that 1,600 for a fiveday trial is all they need to recoup costs, whereas other analysts are saying, hey, they could have charged 5,000. Gilead is banking on the fact that Previous Research has shown that remdesivir can get patients out of the hospital four days faster, which would save costs. But we have to see if that works out in a large scale. Even after all that, hospitals are going to be taking the costs of these medications. Whats going to happen to uninsured patients . Moving forward we have to have a lot more of a National Dialogue about drug pricing and transparency so people really understand where these costs are coming from. We are seeing more people wearing those plastic face shields. They are fashionable. But when it comes to protection, whats the difference between those face shields and a regular cloth mask . Well, they are fashionable. Look, i have one right here. Whats great about these right here is theyre comfortable, they actually your mouth is free, youre less likely to want to touch your face because youve got this plastic barrier. But at the same time, we dont have the same Research Showing that it can prevent the spread the way a mask can. The masks are designed to absorb your droplets. We all know this. Also, a plastic shield, when you wear it over your face, theres still room on the side and the bottom for things to come into play. So i would not say its a replacement for a mask. Now if you were to wear one in addition to a mask, you would have extra protection, youd be protecting your eyes. Thats not necessary, though, most people dont have to wear both. This is a very special case, though, is if somebody for medical reason cannot wear a mask and your doctor advises you to wear one of these, thats a different story. But i would not say that people go out and start replacing their masks with plastic shields. Our thanks to dr. Patel. Mona, its tuesday and weve got good news, you know what that means. Goodnewstues. And senior officials were briefed as well. The white house insists President Trump still hasnt been briefed himself. Neither the president nor the Vice President were briefed on the alleged russian bounty intelligence. Reporter reporters then asking, why not . There was not a consensus among the intelligence community, in fact there were dissenting opinions within the intelligence community, and it would not be elevated to the president until it was verified. Reporter but dissenting opinions can be common. Unverified intelligence gets put in front of president s all the time. Its the nature of intelligence. Theres always going to be uncertainty. Doesnt mean its not important, doesnt mean it shouldnt be seen by the president. Reporter democrats wondering, why wouldnt the president want to know this information . You would think that the minute the president heard of it, he would want to know more instead of denying that he knew anything. Reporter republicans had questions as well. Congresswoman liz cheney asking too why the president would not have been told, and asking what has been done to protect our forces and hold putin accountable. The White House Press secretary was asked if President Trump had a message for moscow. She said he did not because he had not been briefed and there was no indication he wants to be. Martha raddatz, abc news, washington. Also overnight, sources are telling the Associated Press that Top White House officials were aware of classified intelligence about the russian bounties in early 2019, but National Security adviser Robert Obrien also said the president had not been briefed because the information was not verified.
