They are seeing me, and they are seeing a lot of fog right now and low visibility. Thats what would be the Golden Gate Bridge but you cant see any of that right now. We head inland to all clear skies, walnut creek with a clear start this morning and its going to be from the low 60s this morning go from the low 60s this morning to the low 80s by early afternoon. Well talk about what is ahead in the forecast. We talked about the pattern about 5 30 and 5 40, we see the break like right now. We see the camera there, and the sensors are clearing but we will see more of a build. No problem in trivalley. Concord, a little slowing on highway 4. Bart will install a new type of fare gates at the fruitville station. The agency tested another prototype at the richmond station. Bob redell is there. How are they going with the new gates . For the last month, richmond has been installing the double stacked fare gates, and it is to stop some from jumping over the top. This is yesterday when our cameras captured the teenagers sneaking through the new gates at richmond bart. When Police Detained them the situation became violent and one of the young women faces charges of battery on a Police Officer. Bart finds itself in a tough situation. They are trying to stop fare evasion. It costs the agency 25 million a year in lost revenue, but not all riders are fond of the double stacked fare gates, especially riders in wheelchairs. Theres not enough time there for me to always get through. They are horrible. Look where they would hit somebody, a child, somebody in a wheelchair or a short person, somebody is going to get badly hurt by these things. We understand the concerns, but we are encouraged by the fact nobody has been injured by the gates. Reporter heres the other version of the fare gate being installed at fruitville, and bart will test out this design before a decision is made about what to install system wide. Bob redell, today in the bay. 6 04 for you right now, and happening today. The man police say has admitted to plowing his car in a hatemotivated attack. In april eight people were hit and injured as they were walking across the sidewalk. A 13yearold girl suffered critical injuries. Investigators later determined he thought the group was muslim. Also happening today a verdict is expected in a trial of a man accused of hitting and nearly killing a San FranciscoPolice Officer in 2017. The officer was assisting people near turk street and van nuys avenue when flanagan hit him with a stolen car. The officer is still recovering after the crash. A crossexamination continues today for one of the defendants in the ghost house fire. Almena admitted in court yesterday he never got the proper permits for the changes he made, including putting in an electrical system. Almena said he did not know he had to get permits and thought it was up to the owners. A mother that lost her 29yearold daughter says she just does not believe him. He wont take responsible for anything he has done in that warehouse. When he signed a lease to the day that fire happened he is up there fighting for his life. That gentleman is almenas attorney. Almena said he did not set up a Sprinkler System or install smoke detecters. Alex acosta is defending himself for the plea deal he over saw in florida over a decade ago with ebstein. Ebstein is facing sex trafficking charges in a new case, this one out of new york. Sarah dallof is in washington with the latest there. Good morning. Acosta says that that plea deal was the only way to ensure ebstein would go to prison, but a state attorney for the state of florida agrees. Labor secretary, alex acosta on the defense. Facts are important and facts are being overlooked. He is defending the plea deal he over saw 11 years ago, saying ebstein would not have served any jail time had his office not stpe stepped in. The balm beach office was going to let him go free. An indictment that could have sent ebstein to jail for life until the negotiations between ebsteins attorneys and acosta. He was sentenced to 13 months and sentenced. You chose wealthy and wellconnected people, child rapist, over the victims in this case. The president for now sanding by his embattled labor secretary. The Vice President weighing in after that press conference rather saying he was pleased to see acosta step forward. A lot of people will continue to talk about this one. Thank you. Right now a bill aimed at protecting sex workers is heading to governor newsoms desk. The legislation allows sex workers to safely report crimes without the fear of prosecution. It was authored by by a state senator, and he said not discouraging sex workers from carrying condoms would be better for public health. And then a Tropical Storm is brewing in the gulf of mexico, not that you could tell by how the skies look now, and the French Quarter is now under several inches of water in big easy. I am soaking wet. I am missing the beginning of my day trying to get across the street to the marriott and i cant even get across the street to the marriott. This happened in a matter of hours and now nobody can get anywhere, they shutdown all Public Transportation and there are disabled cars all over the road. Its like a hurricane. Its disappointing for people in town for a visit. Yeah, they are going to be dealing with this for the next several days and its really something to watch. We have right now a tropical depression but will bring in a lot of heavy rain over the next few days. Right now we are seeing the system getting a little better organized and may strengthen to a Tropical Storm by tomorrow and going into louisiana near lafayette as a category 1 hurricane named barry going into friday night. Right now we are expecting 10 to 20 inches of rain with this system, and with new orleans being on the east side of that it will carry the brunt of the storm. The water temperatures around new orleans, the sea surface temperatures, right at about 89 degrees, and compare that to bodega bay where its about 49 degrees, so really warm water that will give strength to the system fairly quickly and they may not have time to prepare over the next several days. As we bring it back home, we will see High Pressure building over the next several days and thats going to give us hotter temperatures go into the weekend. We will talk about how hot it gets here in the inland valleys coming up in a few minutes. Mike, you are still looking at a lighter commute around the bay. We will have upper 80s for antioch as well as livermore and danville reaching 88 degrees today as oakland reaches 75. And for San Francisco, mostly mid to upper 60s today but still breezy. The skies will gradually clear, but we will see the skies clearing in the north bay reaching 86 in napa this afternoon. As we look at our wind speeds and wind direction, it makes all the direction and how it feels. We have our onshore wind flow bringing in the cool ocean air and will cool down some parts of the coast but our wind speeds wont be that strong so its not going to make it to the inland areas until later this evening when the wind picks up to 15 and 20 Miles Per Hour. Go into the weekend the winds will start to blow offshore and that will make it feel hot in the valleys reaching the low 90s for saturday and sunday. We will cool things off once again for the middle of next week. Not much of a change for San Francisco. Its going to see the temperatures coming up a few more degrees and a little more clearing. Mike, you are starting out with a drive in richmond. Yeah, it a cool drive, but just a little backup for the cash fast lanes. Both on the reufrp phupd siichm. Nice view, but the headlights are still on because theres patchy fogs in area in the east bay and north bay. After several minutes of the women speaking the manager asked the women to leave. The manager was not mexican but from puerto rico, which is a u. S. Territory. Police in North Carolina say a blast happened after midnight local time and the explosion sent debris flying all over the area, and thankfully the restaurant was empty at the time and nobody was hurt but the cause of the blast is clearly under investigation. And then a possibility of immigration raids taking place this weekend are being reported. These raids will happen in several cities, including some cities here in the bay area. We are joined live with the details, and this is something families have been fearing for weeks now, pete. Reporter yeah, we know nbc news is confirming this morning the immigration raids are expected to take place at some point this weekend and theres previous reporting that San Francisco could be on the list when it comes to the immigration raids. We have confirmed with nbc news, two Senior Department of Homeland SecurityOfficials Say immigration officials and enforcement plan to conduct the immigration raids this weekend which were postponed from three weeks ago. 2,000 families in ten major cities will be targeted across the u. S. As part of the immigration raids. The miami herald previously reported that San Francisco appears to be on the list. The New York Times did report on this overnight and they say these are families with final orders of deportation that crossed the border recently, and the times reported you can expect Immigration Attorneys to step in and file motions which could delay the removal of the families, but the raids could start this weekend as early as sunday. Was part of. 18 tons of cocaine was confiscated in the pacific ocean, and pence also sreattenda private fundraiser yesterday. And then processor suzanne eatons body was found in an abandoned bunker on the island of crete. Most recently she worked at an institute in germany but bay area family members have gone to crete to help in the search and family and colleagues are in shock. Its hard to talk her in the past tense because she its hard to believe that shes gone. Investigators say she was last seen as headed out for a run, and they believe she was either suffocated or choked to death. Her body was found in world war ii bunkers that only locals were aware of. Right now theres a bullet hole in a door window in mother browns dining room and dropin center. Police say its the same homeless shelter with a robbery happened earlier this week. Security video show the moments shots were fired, and there was a man, eric wilson, was shot and killed. Eric was shot and killed by a stray bullet and its hard to deal with that, but we are going to keep moving. What can we do . You know, it really hurts me. Wilson was a regular at the shelter. Another man was shot and is in stable condition. Police are searching for the person behind that shooting. We are tracking new claims that pg e knew about the threats of the fire lines. The utility knew hundreds of its aging lines could fail and spark fires but never upgraded them. Our Investigative Team previously reported that some of pg es electrical towers are more than a century old. The judge ordered pg e to respond to those claims. A controversy multibillion wildfire prevention bill is up for vote today. Its calling for taxpayer money to help for wildfire costs. Pg e has been found responsible for several fires including butte county, the most expensive in the state. The state assembly has until the end of the day tomorrow to act on the bill. If it passes it heads to the governors desk. Now to the latest on the recovery after hundreds of quakes hit Southern California. Water is finally flowing again in the small town of trona. People have been without water there since last friday when the quake hit. The recovery will take time. A little cactus kaution. Did you ever know this could happen. One driver had a brickly time in arizona yesterday. The man behind the wheel not on point. The cactus went through the cars windshield nearly missing the man. It will be warmer there than the coast here where we will reach into the upper 60s and inland valleys up to 90 degrees. It will be hot in the valleys on sunday, and the bay reaching upper 80s for both days. If you are enjoying time on the peninsula head to the los altos arts and wine festival, and it will be reaching into the 70s throughout the day, and maybe a touch warmer on sunday maybe reaching 80 degrees. Across the bay we are looking at palo alto. 101 picks up in volume a tad bit. There are folks waiting at the university onramp at southbound 101. We will check in on the crash in fremont coming up. 6 43 right now. New overnight, two people in custody accused of leading police through a latenight chase. This was a high speed chase in a stolen car. At one point deputies say they sailed past san jose airport with speeds reaching 90 Miles Per Hour. A man and woman ran from the car at valley medical but deputies chased them down. The video shows a man on a gurney and this is where the arrest was made, and we are not clear how that connects to the chase because there was nobody injured. A lot of people talking about this across the country, a Southern California couple talking about the shocking fertility clinic mix up, and a woman they never met gave birth to their child without them knowing. One of their embryos along with another couples embryo was implanted mistakenly in a total stranger, and she gave birth to twins not knowing the embryos belongs to people they never met. She said, yes, a woman gave birth to twins and one of them was yours. I did not feel him kick inside of me. They did not meet their baby until he was six weeks old. The clinic is now facing multiple lawsuits. You can see the full story coming up on today after today in the bay. Opponents filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking city plans, so the city wants to put the center on the embarcadero between the Ferry Building and oracle park. City leaders approved the plan and neighbors are concerned the center will bring drugs and crime to the area. That lawsuit asked for a restraining order to halt development. And then authorizing to vote for subpoenas on 12 current and former Trump Administration officials, including Jeff Sessions and jared kushner. The clock is once again ticking down for the government to run out of money. Theres less than a month for congress to take action. July 11th right now, marcus. Good morning. The house adjourns at the end of the month and doesnt come back until september which means there are a number of critical deadlines, the first being President Trump has to convince congress to raise the borrowing cap so the government can remain funded. Theres a number of programs that would run out of money come september. Mr. Trump wants congress to start working on passing the agreement between the u. S. , canada and mexico that would replace nafta. He needs the democrats help in doing all of those things but relations are at an alltime low. The immigration sweeps could be back on as soon as sunday and that could further damage relations with democrats. We will continue to talk about it in our midday newscast. Ice officers have been instructed to detain people who have had their day in court and were told to leave the country but didnt, and the white house indicated there could be collateral arrests as well. Speaker pelosi, meanwhile, trying to get her caucus in line defending accusations shes not progressive enough and not listening to the younger and more liberal women in her party. President trump will hold a social media summit today, and it appears social media not invited. We talked about that in our business segment. We will talk about it more in the midday as well. President trump wants the census to ask everybody if they are citizens and the Supreme Court says he cant. A source says he will issue some sort of executive order. We are getting ready for slightly warmer temperatures, especially in the valleys. Lets get a look outside now in San Francisco and the warmup will happen a lot more slowly here today because its misting and drizzling, really cloudy and cool to start out as you get ready to head out the door. Pleasant hill, clear and sunny. The warmup happening fairly fast, going from 63 degrees at 7 00 to lunchtime 81 degrees in Pleasant Hill and continuing to go up from there. South bay, 83 degrees in san jose, which is slightly above normal. Gilroy, the high of 82. Upper 80s for danville. Hayward, were looking at a high of 79 degrees. Not bad. Parts of the peninsula reaching the 70s and 80s, and San Francisco keeping it cool with a high of 67 in the mission district, and 89 degrees in ukiah, and our temperatures are going up. We will see High Pressure building across the desert southwest. We will see more of an offshore wind flow, but the temperatures going into the 80s and 90s wont last that long. We are going to cool off going into the middle of next week. Take a look at the weekend forecast for the inland areas reaching the low 90s and then back to the 80s for next wednesday. San francisco only sees temperatures going up just a few more degrees, but definitely more sunshine for the weekend. Mike, you are seeing more changes now at the bay bridge. Good changes as far as the flow of traffic. The left lanes, in the summertime we see the late break, and then its more like a friday pattern over most of the summer days. The fast track lanes, we still have the backup. Bring cash if you can access the left lanes, that might be an advantage. As we look towards the rest of the bay, no problems. We have a build still on highway 4, pittsburg, antioch and bay point, and concord, that was not on the map, but they are all in the area. A smooth drive in through the area. I am concerned about this, northbound 680 heading through fremont at washington. A crash reported there, six or seven vehicles involved, and the waiters did show there was one report over here north 680, and its reported by somebody that hates their commute. Police arrested the man and investigators later determined he thought the group was muslim. Happening today, the trial of a man accused of hitting and nearly killing an officer in 2017. The officer was assisting people when Authorities Say flanagan hit him with a stolen car. The San Francisco chronicle reports that the officer is still recovering after the hitandrun crash. Crossexamination continues today for one of the defendants in the ghost ship warehouse trial. The phrarosecutors say he and harris are blamed for the warehouse fire that killed 36 people.
