We do want to get to our top story and that breaking news overnight the United States announcing it will evacuate hundreds of americans who have been quarantined on a cruise ship in japan because of the coronavirus. There are hundreds of americans on this cruise ship waiting to hear what happens next. How is it that this evacuation plan will play out, and how long will it be before theyre actually home . This morning, a plan to evacuate americans from a cruise ship quarantined in japan for nearly two weeks. The u. S. Embassy sending a letter to passengers offering a way home on chartered flights back to the u. S. Bittersweet relief for hundreds of americans on board for what was supposed to be a dream trip. We just go home and count our blessings and come back another time. Reporter but only healthy passengers will be allowed to board the flight. That will take them to Travis Air Force base in california, where theyll be quarantined again for another 14 days. And for those who dont take the flight, a state of limbo. The letter saying only they will be unable to return to the United States for a period of time. Its complicated for Mark Jorgenson who for days with his wife had made the most until today when jerry was told her latest test for the virus was positive. This must feel really out of the blue. It really does, and i think karma has a sense of humor, too, because i actually posted something downplaying the virus and saying whats the big deal here . The odds of getting it are so minuscule, whys everybody freaking out so much . Reporter Jerry Jorgenson among 67 confirmed cases on the ship with half of them showing no symptoms and a nearly 200 potentially high risk. We need to balance and theyre from many nationalities. Reporter its a little nervewracking to be anticipating a knock on the door from a hazard suited quarantine official. The evacuation plan appears to be similar to what was done to get americans from wuhan. What we know from japanese officials a plane will land at the airport about 20 minutes from here. They say passengers will be taken by bus, and they will be tested for symptoms before theyre allowed to board, and then theyll be tested again when theyre onboard. And when they land there will be more tests. All of course to ensure that theyre in the clear. A story that has so many people still concerned. Thank you for that report. But as we roll into the week a nice rebound and close to 60 degrees by tuesday in baltimore and as we head into raleigh youre approaching 70 degrees but we have to get through the next 12 to 18 hours. Mccabe was a proven liar and was fired from the fbi. Andrew mccabe, hes a bad guy. Whats happening to mccabe . Reporter the answer is no prosecution for the former fbi Deputy Director who had been fired after a, quote, lack of candor over contacts with the media. Friday Andrew Mccabes lawyer received a doj letter that ended nearly two years of uncertainty. We consider the matter closed. Mccabe said he is relieved to a point. I dont think ill ever be free of this president and his maniacal rage that hes directed towards me and my wife since october of 2016. Reporter from the president s perceived enemies to his friends. Roger stone, long time trump political advisor convicted of lying to congress and witness tampering is seeking a new trial, one day after the president claimed on twitter the jury foreperson had significant bias. Attorney general william barr who stepped in to reduce the recommendation for stone also admonished the president for tweets on criminal matters. Make it impossible for me to do my job and assure the courts and the prosecutors and the department that were doing our work with integrity. Reporter barr also took an unusual step for another friend of the president. Former National Security advisor michael flynn, according to two people familiar with the inquiry, the attorney general assigned a federal prosecutor based in missouri to review the criminal case against flynn who had pleaded guilty to lying to the fbi. Theyre calling it a reduction of violence that will allow for new negotiations and the potential to bring more troops home from afghanistan after 18 years of fighting there. The president didnt say anything about it on twitter yesterday, didnt say anything to the cameras, but he cant be happy mccabe was cleared. What is he saying privately right now . Yeah, peter, clearly the president is upset with this decision not to charge Andrew Mccabe. Mccabe has been enemy number one or two either right behind or right in front of jim comey. And what we know from our reporting, my colleagues at the washington post, the president was angry about this. And there there was an effort in the white house to control him, to calm him, to try to prevent him from commenting in the immediate aftermath yesterday, but well see what he has to say this weekend. We sure will. Well be watching our twitter feeds for that. Meantime this week weve seen attorney general bill barr and the president largely in lock step, and then you had this very public rebuke by barr. Some democrats wondered if he was coordinated with the president or was this in reality a real rebuke. What are you hearing about the status of the relationship between these two men . Well, this is the most tense moment in this relationship one year into bill barrs tenure as the attorney general. Barr has been one of the most loyal and politically effective members of the president s cabinet. And yet the last few days hes had to try to suppress a revolt within the department of justice, within the ranks of career federal prosecutors, and he seems to be looking for ways to establish his independence from the white house even while still pleasing the president and sending signals to his boss that hes got his back. Phil, were a week and a half removed from impeachment. The president , republicans hoped would have learned a lesson from the impeachment. I asked him about that in the oval office. Heres what he said. What lesson did you learn from impeachment . That the democrats are crooked. Theyve got a lot of crooked things going, that theyre vicious, that they shouldnt have brought impeachment. So clearly not a lot of selfreflection. Instead the president feels emboldened right now. What are the implications for the year ahead . Yeah, peter, not only is the president emboldened but a week and a half after impeachment he seems to be testing the rule of law in this country. Hes looking for ways to exercise his power as the president , as the commander in chief to punish his foes, to protect his friends. And that has democrats on capitol hill very concerned and alarmed. But it also has brought a fresh worry among career Justice Department officials and other protectors of the norms and institutions in this country. Also on this saturday morning a manhunt is on in portland, oregon, after a brazen escape all caught on camera. Police released this video unbelievable showing a young woman and an older man breaking into a tow yard. The woman eventually slides under the barriers to get in. When an employee sees whats going on, the woman smashes through the gate in the pickup truck and sends him sprawling. She then backs up to make her escape. The worker was taken to the hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries fortunately. Police are still looking for the thieves. That is scary.
