Reporter its the dry conditions you were talking about with the weather and the use of fireworks that can make a deadly combination this time of year, of course, with the july 4th holiday coming up. Thats why a lot of parks are closed because of the red flag warning. We have a list to share with you, just a few of them. New overnight four gunmen are dead after an attack on the Pakistani Stock Exchange that killed at least two people. It happened early this morning in the capital city of karachi. Police say the attackers used grenades and heavy firearms and Security Forces quickly responded. Security forces are still looking for additional attackers. So far no one has claimed responsibility. The bay area has nearly 23,000 coronavirus cases and 568 people have died. Over the past twoported. Worldwide more than 10 million cases and half a Million People have died. The accused Golden State Killer is set to enter a guilty plea. Prosecutors have used dna evidence to tie 74yearold Joseph Deangelo to 12 murders, at least 45 rapes and more than 120 burglaries. The crimes happened across california in the 1970s and 80s and include up to a dozen attacks in three bay area counselees. B. A. R. T. To the north of us giving us the high winds and then the rest of the week well look at milder weather a little bit more of an ocean breeze but then by the weekend just in time for the fourth of july theres a lot of people who may be firing off those fireworks will have to watch out for fire danger. Some mid70s here but then warming up as it will definitely feel like summer going into the holiday week. San francisco coastal areas will stay much cooler. Shortly after yesterdays vote workers at the State Capitol in jackson took the flag down for the day, but not everyone supports that move. I always thought that mississippi needed to have a heart and soul and today we did. I love this flag. I believe its a good representation to the state of mississippi, whether you like it or not. We have the areas shaded in red included in the red flag warning and it goes into effect, continues until 8 00 this evening when we will have some of the high winds gusting today. As we look at our current wind speeds mostly at about 15 to 25 Miles Per Hour coming through the delta and the north bay well see the high winds continue to increase again today with the hot temperatures and some of the valleys. Well talk more about this and whats ahead in a few minutes. Mike, how is it looking right now . Its looking pretty good. You notice the movement, theres Good Movement in the lanes. Thats a good sign. No major delays as we look at your travel times getting out of the area or into the area to the bay bridge. Overall the map only shows slowing out of the Altamont Pass. Your usual suspects. 6 32 right now. Shut down again. Governor newsome ordering bar owners to shut their doors to prevent the spread of covid19. Hes also recommending the same for bars in santa clara counties and contra costa counties. Today in the bays bob redell joins us live from walnut creek this morning. Itll be interesting to see if the counties comply. Most likely, i assume they will. Reporter thats our understanding as well. Bars were supposed to open up in walnut creek this week, laura. As i mentioned our understanding is the county will heed the governors advice. Santa clara county hasnt announced a reopening date yet for its bars but Public Health leaders say they will wait, too. As covid19 cases have spiked throughout the state, the governor has ordered bars from los angeles to kern county to shut down. Theyve increased 42 and the number of cases has already increased and not just because of increased testing. A sign of increased spread and thats why county supervisors are expected to honor them and keep the bars closed. They are often crowded as youre well aware. Most are indoors. After drinking people are more likely to lose their inhibitions and take off their masks. When youre in noise, youre shouting and screaming and the virus travels on the droplets but in a shouted, screaming or even singing you can give the droplets superpowers so they can fly further. In San Francisco businesses like hair salons, barber shops, museums and the zoo were supposed to be open today but on friday the mayor there delayed the reopening after the city recorded 103 new cases the day before. Bob redell, today in the bay. Thank you for the latest there. Now despite a spike in cases, marin county is moving forward with easing more restrictions today. Indoor dining, hair salons and barber shops will be allowed to reopen. Campgrounds and picnic areas were also given the green light. However, the county did hit pause on hotels and shortterm rentals, gyms, Skin Care Services and tattoo parlors. Right now theres no word on when theyll be able to reopen. Happening today San Francisco schools are trying to help families during the pandemic by giving away free thermometers. The School District will hand out nearly 9,000 of those during an event at Lincoln High School beginning at 11 00 this morning. Now this will help the families monitor themselves for possible fevers. The thermometers were donated to the district by San Francisco based Public Health company. Developing in the south bay someone was found shot near a homeless encampment. Chp found a person shot the pedestrian had been shot in the face. So far no idea where the gunfire came from. July 4th less than a week away. Now you may have seen the stands already. Fireworks sales are an important fundraising sale for schools, charities, even sports. Some people we actually spoke with say that fireworks are really an easy way for the families stuck at home to let off some steam. Yeah, and many in germany are against it as well. We dont know exactly what russia thinks about it but we rather suspect they are for it. Defense secretary mark esper will meet with the president today to discuss the president s plan to remove several thousand troops from germany. The president says its retribution for germany not paying its fair share to nato. Germany does not reach its promised 2 of gdp on defense spending but doesnt itself. President trump also downplaying a report that was in the New York Times, later confirmed by the Washington Post that russian intelligence was paying the taliban a bounty to Kill Coalition forces including u. S. Forces. The president says he was never briefed on that because those reports are unfounded but already congress is talking about an investigation into that. Vice president pence was in hard hit texas over the weekend where he not only wore a mask. He urged people to do the same as america deals with infection numbers far higher than our worst days under shelter. As we think about the challenges, the loss of more than 125,000 of our countrymen, the grief of those families, we think of those still struggling with this disease today. My favorite part of the day as we get a look at our view from mission peak looking over parts of the east bay. Now were going to see the sunshine continuing, but we are also going to see our temperatures warming up. Lets go hour by hour as we look at where well be at noontime today, if youre thinking of taking the lunch outside, looking at parts of the east bay, were in the low 80s. But for San Francisco were at 73 degrees. Half moon bay at 68 and 8 in santa rosa. Now some of us will continue to heat up today and some spots reaching the low 90s. For the east bay as well as parts of the north bay, in the south bay were in the low to mid80s and its going to be a nice breeze picking up but the high winds will get pretty high for parts of the north bay causing a problem of that high fire danger. Now today will be the last day of that red flag warning. Before we start to see our winds subside and cooler air, then that warm starts to rebuild just in time for the weekend and we know this upcoming weekend is the holiday fourth of july and the dry weather continues so that means no fireworks for us as we are going to have a high fire danger once again. G at tem week were in the mid80s for the inland areas. You notice that cooldown well be working towards as we head to the end of the week and look at thursday, only 75 degrees inland. Back in the 80s, slightly above normal for the end of the week into the weekend. San francisco in the low 70s today but mostly 60s throughout the rest of the forecast.
