Give me one month. Ill do something that symbolizes freedom. Think you cant . Weve got a bay area swimmer defying age and the odds, saying you can. Halfwaythrough the workweek, bay area, lets go. See you my friend. Im reed cowan. Were glad you are here. Yes we are, im gianna franco. I need that motivation right there jumping into the bay. Wow. Cold water plunge and good for him showing us we can all do it and i felt like the weather this morning and this was just me, that armchair expert was a little better this morning than yesterday morning. Lets talk to jess about that. Actually darren. Jess is off this morning. Darren is gracing us with his presence. Hi darren peck. Good morning. Hey guys, were going to call jess at home. Thats what i meant. Wake her up. Good morning jess. Well, when im over here in the virtual set. So we havent had a chance yet to see each other. For the morning yet. But yeah, the weather is starting to change and were starting to get back into a little bit more of that fall pattern. And there is a trend in the temperatures this morning that is starting to look very fall and ill show you what i mean in one second. Its not here, san jose, thats a live look over downtown. Lets take a look at what some of the numbers have to say in terms of the way it feels out there right now. South bay numbers and theres a lot of mid 50s down here for the santa clara valley. Trivalley. Its 55 in livermore. The number along the coast for halfmoon bay is not all that different. Were looking at temperatures there that are struggling to get to around 60 and inland Contra Costa County relatively warm out there. Take a look at the numbers around 6. A taste of fall is in the north bay. Where its as much as ten degrees cooler right now this is a pattern were going to watch play out over and over again. Over the next several months as we go into winter. You are going to be noticeably colder up there and at 50 degrees its ten degrees cooler in santa rosa than it is for just about most other places. All right, there is a change coming for the weekend. And its going to be a little bit cooler. And believe it or not, there is a chance for some very light rain. By the time we get to saturday. Were going to play the futurecast forward when we go to the complete forecast when icome back and check in with you guys again in a few minutes and ill show what you the system looks like. Its a good news story because at least its not offshore winds and theres a small chance of light rain. Gianna . Looks pretty good so far. Now is the time to do it. Why . Because look at this. Not a lot of cars out there. Not a bad ride heading into the city right now. Live look here at the bay bridge. And cruising along just fine with no delays or issues this morning. In fact, most of the bay area is showing a lot of green and when i say that, that means good. A lot of freeways are up to speed and nice conditions and a little slow westbound 580, 237 there. That Castro Valley y connector working your way over to 880. Likely due to some construction or trouble spot there. And weve got a closure happening this weekend on 101. Ill have that coming up in my next report. Weve got some breaking news out of korea this morning. That country expelling a u. S. Army private who crossed the border sfo north korea. You might remember back in July Travis King crossed the border with north and south at the demilitarized zone. At the time north korea said king sought refuge from the United States. So big question this morning. Why did they expel him . Whens he going to leave north korea and whats going to happen to him when he comes back to the United States . Were still asking those questions. Well, during hispanic heritage month, were checking in on the health of latino owned businesses. Latino entrepreneurs continue to start businesses faster than any other group. And according to a report from stanford, Latino Business owners are growing by 44 in just the past decade and yet they still face many challenges especially as one of largest underbanked groups in the country. Thats according to the fdic. Shawn chitnis is live in san jose this morning with more on the Impact Community help can have on a Small Business when they need it the most. Good morning, shawn. Reporter gianna, good morning. And no better example of the spirit of entrepreneurship than where we are. This is one of the businesses districts throughout the bay area here in san jose where you can see a collection of latino restaurants and shops here that celebrate exactly what were talking about. But there are still some challenges despite the growth that you mentioned. When we talk about the issues related to banking, were referring to specifically just having a short Credit History as well as not having all the documentation or knowledge of the Financial System that is holding back more businesses from enjoying that growth. So when we have the chance to speak to someone who has seen success, they wanted to be an example to emphasize how theres still a need for ongoing support and resources. Alicia has never forgotten about the journey she went on to get to this kitchen. Originally from mexico, she came to the u. S. In 2000. Eager for the opportunities it presented her. We come to this country because like as immigrant because we are looking for a better life for in a good education for our kids. Reporter working two jobs with a family, she started making tamales at home. Silk them on the street and by knocking on doors. She knew she had Something Special but needed help to make it a success. Everybody has a dream. And in business and everything, so just work hard and find the resources and its going to come through. For sure. Reporter axon Opportunity Fund gave alicia a crucial first loan to start deliveries while coaching her along the way. Frequently she was shut out of the traditional Financial System and she was not able to access the capital she needed in order to grow her business. Reporter but alicia says passion and perseverance carried her to new milestones. To work hard and deliver and all they need is a little bit of help from those of us who are here to help them. Reporter order after order confirms that her approach is working. Which includes the most important ingredient of all, lots of love. I say to my ladies that when they are cooking or preparing or assembly, everything, do like you are doing for your family. Reporter the path requires a lot of sacrifice. Which she never forgets. And makes every moment she spends at her Business Today all the more satisfying. Always i say, i pinch myself to see like if this is true. And its true. Reporter and that pinch me moment is really 20 years in the making. Just a year after she came to the u. S. In 2001 she started making the tamales. In 2010 she started getting the training and opened the business in 2015. A lot of work to get to today and initially only had six employees and now she has 60 employees and that space that we saw in hayward, its a 6,000 square foot facility. Postpandemic there are still challenges and she was able to rely heavily on catering in the past not really looking to contracts that she gets with School Districts as well as major businesses. Guys, back to you. Shawn thank you. What a great story and i mean, great to get a perspective of someone who came here and through the course of what 20 years . Has really grown and thrived in their business. Six to 60 employees so shes also giving other people an opportunity. Right and its a corporate and banking success story. Right . And these banks can see like this works. When we invest and put our money into family and innovations and it works. Good for them and good for anybody who gets to torque for her. I would love for her to be my boss. Time now 5 08 in the morning. Hollywood headlines, herald an end to the Writers Strike. Writers are writing but wheres the actors . Actors are still on strike with no confirmed negotiations on that front yet in sight. Meanwhile, President Biden is waking up in the bay area this morning. Hes in town campaigning for cash. This morning, he will meet with his tech council and Administration Officials say hes expected to preview a new Artificial Intelligence executive order. It will reportedly seize the opportunities and manage the risks posted by ai. Later, hell attend two campaign receptions. Last night, billionaire couple mark highsing and liz simons hosted fundraiser for him in atherton. This playing out while countdown to shutdown happens. Democrats and republicans have until the end of the week to get it together before a Government Shutdown risks the paychecks of thousands of federal workers. Government Services Like wic and head start along with many others could also see service interruptions. Hard line conservatives headtohead with their own leader californias Kevin Mccarthy saying if they dont get the deep spending cuts they want, theyll let the Government Shutdown. Reed, the issue of how to handle the homeless cry in addition San Francisco is so contentious. Two people went headtohead on the stage last night. The contenders, a local Business Owner and a prominent advocate who usually exchanged blows online rather than inperson. The one thing they have in common, both have taken a lot of heat for their opinions. Betty yu was there as this Important Community discussion took place in front of a packed house at mannys. Were not going to hiss. Were not going to boo. Were not going to clap. Reporter before a full house at mannys. Deli board owner manny says he became an expert on homelessness through personal experience. I have found two dead bodies, one in 2023, one in 2019. Both walking my dog outside of my home. If you have seen the conditions on 7th and mission, and you can look at me and honestly tell me that thats humane, then i will give up. Reporter adam approached jennifer freedom jr. Back, executive director on the coalition of homelessness for a public debate. The group is suing the city arguing it violated the law byclearing homelessness enamounts before clearing the smelter. Vs. A temporary limit. What we have to do to have a functioning homeless system. One of the first things we have to do is we have to prevent people from becoming homeless in the first place. Last year in San Francisco, for every one person, you know, that we got off, we had five more people becoming homeless. Reporter adam believes the city needs a tougher, more aggressive approach to handling open air drug use. Mental illness, and homelessness. We need medical professionals to actually screen these people and figure out what their real needs are. How in the world do you ask a fentanyl addict whos in a tent high, if they want services . You have to give these people a time to decompress a little bit. Give them an opportunity to take a shower. So what does that look like . Does that look like give them hope. Reporter owner manny gave jennifer an opportunity to respond to why she called adam who often posts grim Street Scenes toxic. I think the quote was i think hes well intentioned but his messaging is often toxic. The reason i said that also you accused me of murder and you have done it like lot of other stuff on social media that goes after med. Then you can respond to her. Just let her finish. You know, that so but that that aside, i think that what is happening in a lot of the debate is that were dehumanizing folks. Reporter adam says the city needs to do more to make San Francisco less attractive. Its crazy. I just saw a kid yesterday, i asked him how long hes been here, he said three days. He came from new hampshire. Coming here is the cheapest fentanyl on the planet. Its the easiest place to sustain on the bottom with zero consequences. Reporter jennifer said the city needs to appropriately match people with the right services. Pushing people from block to block doesnt really thats where we have been doing. You give someone a citation or you give them arrest, theyre back in the same situation, theyre worse off. Reporter though they differ on how to best uphold it, both agreed the dignity of the people on the street are important. Lets give them a round of applause, both of them. Yeah, kudos for how manny handle that conversation. So easy in the divisive issues to see people yell at each other and im sure there was a little bit of that last night but by and large, it looked like it was a test of ideas and not people. Thats what i want to see in the debates going into the president ial election. Because we know those can get very heated and i really applaud them how well they handled that being on completely two different sides and opinions. But i also appreciate that this is a community having these type of conversations. And trying to get that message out there to see change. So kudos to them for that as well. Its time. All right, lets talk to my friend darren about the weather. Good morning darren and welcome. Thank you. Its nice to be here, guys. Weve gone through a transition in the seasons. Reed you mentioned how different it felt a moment ago. And there is a very important difference. Were not dealing with any fog. Theres no marine layer out there. We didnt wake up to any of that. Its kind of like this is how the season transitions and you know, if you dont stop and really point it out, maybe you can miss it. Thats the view from the top of the Salesforce Tower looking out towards the west. We usually see plenty of clouds over the hills on the west side of the city. Were not seeing any. And one way we can also verify this, is to use the Virtual Reality map to put the readings on here for visibility. So the numbers on here are telling you how far down the road you can see. Most of these are 9 or 10. Except for one of them. The one out here. Halfmoon bay. Where you are down to 5. So you can still see five miles down the road. Thats not a problem. But it does verify, you know, you are going to have usually going to have some reduced visibility at the coast. And were able to see that when we look at the map this way. The other part of the bay that stands out is up here, come up to the north bay with me and we looked at this a moment ago and im going to switch and instead of looking at the visibility readings im going to lose those. And im going to bring in the actual temperatures. Its 50 degrees right now in santa rosa. Thats noticeably cooler than it for most of the rest of the bay. If we come back out for the wide view once again. Look at San Francisco. 60 degrees. Thats pretty much in line with what so many other places are doing. So in one sense, its were starting to see the transition into falllike weather in that way. When we get into winter the north bay is always going to be noticeably colder on this morning. Than most of the rest of the bay. All right, i mentioned the possibility for rain on saturday. Heres just a quick overview on that. The pacific has gotten reoriented into more of the fall kind of storm track. And the next system is going to try and slink our way by saturday. Go to the lower resolution longrange model but watch what it does. It brings rain through Northern California and now thats a little overdone. Actually look at this a slightly different way. Color in the map looking at friday and saturday. Instead of using just the one model, were going to take theensemble which is a safer bet when you are four days out like this and this still has the idea of at least some rain. Not as impressive as the first run through we looked at there which was just one model. But when you group them all together, you can see we still have a chance you are going into friday and saturday for maybe, you know, perhaps like a couple hundredths of an inch of rain. Might be similar to the system that came through here on monday night. But its very early on that. So you will see when we get to the 7 day forecast at this point. Theres not even a rain drop on there. More on that in a second. Daytime highs for today, you can see the numbers for the north bay there. Well check out the temperatures for the heart of the bay and well get down to the south bay next. These numbers are almost identical what we were doing yesterday and thats been the theme ive been able to say about this tour that we take on the table top. Because there has really not been a whole lot of change in the numbers. So lets get into the 7 day forecast. First off for inland parts of the bay, were still going to be mid 80s over here, we start out the 7 day its mid 80s. Heres the cooldown on saturday. Theres the cloud. So i dont have rain on that. But you can see at least the clouds and a little bit of a cooldown. Well take one more wide look again at the 7 day forecast for the inland locations for the microclimates and im going to bring in the bay. Just to kind of finish this off. And you will see the same story if you that ache look at the number there on saturday. It dips a little bit. We get a little bit cooler. But no rain in the 7 day yet. Gianna. Were going to watch that and well see how that plays out. For now, whats the drive looking like . No rain makes it a lot easier on the freeways too. Darren. Well take that. You knowt drive is looking okay for anyone taking our bay area bridges, pretty quiet. However, along 880 were starting to track just a smidge of slowing as you head southbound not right here at the coliseum. A live look as you work your way near the coliseum. Through oakland actually moving okay here. Just south of here as you head near that 238 Castro Valley y. We have a bit of a snag there. So definitely give yourself extra time there. Especially headed welcomed 580 and trying to get on southbound 880 right now. In fact, im going to zoom here and you can see speeds dipping down to about 24 miles per hour. This is just as you enter on to the nimitz freeway. So maybe you are heading down into the hayward area this morning. Early you will have a bit of a backup there because of this crash right here. Other than that were off to a great start. Live look here at the bay bridge, no metering lights just yet. Moving along just fine as you head into San Francisco. And a quick live look at the san mateo bridge. Eastbound very quiet. Westbound though all the taillights over to 101 thats starting to get busy this morning. Time right now 5 21. The niners are red hot and getting ready for sundays matchup with the cardinals. How a wide receiver is actually helping their defense. Well explain in this mornings red and gold report. And then our minds on bay area meta and whats on their mind as they launch a path into Virtual Reality. Well tech cracked windshield on your new car . Bring it to safelite. Reporter the 49ers defense will get their first look at cardinals quarterback joshua dobbs this sunday. But if they need any help preparing, they can always ask jawan jennings. Yeah, me and dobbs man, we great night man. Great can be great memories. Reporter jennings and dobbs were College Teammates at tennessee. They connected on this hail mary to beat georgia back in 2016. But theyll be on opposite sides this week and jennings had some advice for the 49ers defense. I say take lays away from him. Thats what i say. As long as we can do that i i think we can take care of my man dobbs. Reporter dobbs has run for 93 yards this season. Fifth most by a quarterback. And hes also one of four quarterbacks that have started all three games and not thrown an interception. And right now on cbs news bay area at 5 29 in the morning, after months long battle the hollywood Writers Strike, its done. Leaders of the Writers Guild of america approved a new contract with studios last night. Jarred hill is in new york with details on the deal. Reporter after nearly five months, hollywood writers can once again pick up the pen. The strike declared over tuesday night after board members. For the Writers Guild of america, approved a contract agreement with the studios. We got so much of what we wanted. Like its overwhelming. Reporter the three year deal includes better up front pay and an agreement on residual compensation based on the popularity of a streaming show. On Artificial Intelligence, ai cant write or rewrite scripts. Nor can it create source material. Their language for novels or video games that writers adapt into scripts. Another win for the guild, required staff minimums. The idea that there would be some protection to make sure that writing staffs continue to be robust, that theres some sort of guidelines to protect some of these jobs, thats a big win for the Writers Guild. Reporter late night talk shows the first to go dark could be the first to return. Meanwhile actors who swapped screen for the sidewalk continue to search for their own hollywood ending. Knowing that at least one of us has gotten a good deal gives a lot of hope that we will also get a good deal as well. Reporter the writers still have to vote to ratify the contract early next month. But they can work during that process. All right, so lets come back home to the bay and good morning to our friends in oakland. Where you are waking up knowing your First Responders fought flames at the rotary Nature Center and worked hard all night. This is along Beautiful Lake merritt. Overnight this happened. The fire starting just after sundown. This video from citizen app shows the fierce fight. Exterior walls and the roof took most of the damage and so far we dont know what caused the fire but crews stayed up all night long in case of flareups. Round two of the republican president ial debates kicks off tonight. Seven candidates will face off at Ronald Reagans president ial library in seammy valley. Former President Donald Trump skipping out once again but who will be there . Florida Governor Desantis and mike pence and former South Carolina governor nikki haley. Lets talk more about the man who wont be at the debate. Donald trump smarting this morning from a judges ruling saying he and his oldest sons and his company committed fraud for years. Heres the ruling. Donald trump inflated the value of multiple Real Estate Properties and lied about his net worth by billions of dollars on financial documents to banks and Insurance Companies according to that ruling. Well, the punishment, the judge is now canceling the new York Business license of donald trump, the trump organizations, and other defendants in the case. Coming home to california now. Governor gavin newsom signed two major Gun Safety Bills into law aimed at safety and accountability. Heres what it means to you. If you want to buy a gun in california or the ammunition to go with it. You are going to pay double the tax. That money will go to pay for violence prevention programs and school safety. A second bill bans you from carrying firearms in most Public Places including public parks, churches and anywhere alcohol is sold. Gun activists expected to fight these moves all the way to the u. S. Supreme court. And once again, i see this move and i think is he going to run for president . So Many National issues. Well, i mean just the conversation of him taking on you know, ron desantis on national stage. Makes me wonder the same ting. So fascinating. Okay. Were not going to debate the weather. Darren. Just going to say thats the thing that unites us all. No, i still want to debate the whole Governor Newsom and desantis thing. Why is he doing this . Thats the question. I think we know. Now we can debate the weather. Now that i have that out of the way. So were starting to see pattern show up temperaturewise this morning. That is very fall. The north bay is ten degrees cooler than the rest of the bay. I mean, theres the south bay. Thats our live look over downtown san jose. Its also clear. We dont have any fog issues. The marine layer is not even a factor out there this morning. Thats also another falllike pattern. You can pick out the number for your part of the bay. Were in the mid 50s and low 50s in fact for some parts of the south bay. But livermores closer towards 60s and 58 degrees there and 58 fremont and 55 redwood city. The numbers for inland Contra Costa County, probably the warmest. Thats usual for inland east b■ay communities. Your numbers are up around 60 degrees. And that really gives us a contrast if you head up to the north bay, so you can pick out that number for santa rosa up there. That is 50 degrees. You know, its not like were talking about freeze concerns or frost advisories. Those are coming probably several weeks down the road. But it is a sign of how things begin to change were already kind of seeing the patterns. So when we get back together im going to show you a chance, another chance, that a 10 shot for light rain on saturday believe it or not. Theres another system coming our way. Much more on that in the complete forecast. Today is going to be just like yesterday with temperatures right around 80 inland and mid to upper 70s. Gianna . You know were starting to see more cars hopping on the bay area bridges and roadways. Live look here at the bay bridge. You can see its backing up a little bit this morning in some of the lanes coming off the eastshore freeway. So definitely think about that as you hit the roadways. Metering lights just turned on about one minute ago. That will change that pattern here in just a in minutes. 880 though looking pretty good at least through the portion although its a little slow southbound just past where the live shot is. Thats near the coliseum but if you are working your way 238, getting on to 880, we do have a crash there blocking at least one lane. Well, over in San Francisco, San Francisco has seen a could soon rip a page from new york citys traffic handbook. And ban drivers from turning right on red citywide. Supervisor dean preston officially put the proposal on the table last night. He represents the tenderloin, where rights on red have been banned since 2021. The sfmta says its paid off most drivers comply and theres been a sharp drop in close calls involving pedestrians. Prestons resolution basically just asks the agency to look into the feasibility of a citywide ban. Reed . Your community station, gianna, in santa clara this morning. You are waking up getting a preview of mayor gilmores state of the city address. Making the case for diversity and community pride. We will be there tonight at 6 00 p. M. For the address. By the way you can attend at the Mission City Center for performing arts. Another person wants the keys to the San Francisco mayors office. Were talking about daniel lury a philanthropist by the way the heir to the levi strauss fortune. To unseat london breed for the mayorship. You likely know him as a native of San Francisco. Working with the antipoverty organization Tipping Point community. Fighting poverty in the bay. He will campaign on making the city safe and profitable for people. In fact, heres his first message to you, the voter. Were not living up to the expectations that we all have for our city. I was born and raised here in San Francisco. I know so many different part of it. And im i have so much pride in our city. And i want it to be great. And then right now were not. His political strategy is to say hes an outsider. He says San Francisco has a leadership crisis. So we invited hymn to join us on the broadcast and hopefully sometime next week. Thats what we did yesterday morning with San Francisco supervisor ahsha safai. Hes been campaigning for months on safety. Yesterday we spoke the him about the new initiative to get more police on the streets of San Francisco. We are going to put officers back out on the street. Were going to put foot beat officers. Weve had conversations with the chief. Weve been talking to many of the front line officers. People in the community. They want to see Police Officers out in the community. Doing community policing. Suppressing crime. After he brought that word to us, exclusively on our broadcast, the supervisor then introduced that legislation calling for increased foot and bike patrols throughout our city. Gianna . Well, target has a bullseye on nine Stores Nationwide including several in the bay area. The chain says its closing them down because organized retail crime made the stores unsafe and unsustainable for business. Nine Stores Closing might not sound too bad. But a third of them are local. The San Francisco store at folsom and 13th and the chains only stores in pittsburg and oakland. Jocelyn moran spoke with shoppers who are about to pay the price for other peoples crimes. Yes. Kind of sucks. Reporter amy lives nearby and shops at the target on broadway and oakland often. Mostly for the kind of stuff i end up needing. Like an ice cube true or just like i end up having like bugs in the apartment. So yeah. Stuff like this. Like stuff thats hard to get elsewhere. Reporter she doesnt own a car so having this location close by has worked for her. Lot of the stuff here is like the kind of stuff i would get at ikea. So. Have to go to the and thats hard. Reporter amy says shes noticed security ramp up but didnt expect them to close. Target says its closing three of its Bay Area Stores because of ongoing problem. Organized retail theft. They invested in steps to prevent and stop theft that were ultimately successful. They said quote. In this case we cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests and contributing to unsustainable business performance. We reached out to oakland mayor sheng thao in a statement sent to us she said quote i understand the challenges that target is facing in cities across the country. And i am disappointed by the news of its closure in oak cleveland. My goal is to continue working in partnership with members of the Business Community to ensure safety and suck necessary our city. The two other bay area locations closing are in San Francisco and pittsburg. And Angelique Scott has noticed more items being locked up at the pittsburg store. But this is the place she looks to for her shopping. This is my go to store. I do all the orders online. When i dont feel like coming in. Theyll usually deliver it right to my home. Thats awful. I dont know. I really dont. Reporter the stores are set to close on october 21st. The employees at these stores will be offered the opportunity to transfer to other target locations. For target shoppers nearby, theyre left to look at other locations too. If i need stuff like this, im probably either make the list and when im here, emeryville. Gig to ikea. Or yeah. Amazon. Well, meanwhile, we are seeing lots of reaction to the closures online this morning. Including this post right here that says congrats to sheng thao and well show you that and those who fumbled the retail theft grant but a lot of people not happy about the closure of target. Its my go to. A leadership conversation in the bay area. And citizens rising up and saying hey, this is what we need. In order to have successful businesses and safe streets and places where people want to come and do business and live their lives and we want to were going to vote you out of office and you are seeing so many people frustrated. I bet. Just going to make it harder too. I think about parents who have to make the quick trip to target to make dinner for the night or stuff for kids for school. Time now 5 41 in the morning. Meta and Virtual Reality . The announcement that has the world watching in 360. Plus, hes back on earth making history in the process. The recordsetting trip so space. Can you imagine . Whats your dad doing today . Just in space. Just up in space. How about your dad . Well. He packed my lunch. [ laughter ] thats important too. Yes. It is. Welcome back to earth and congratulations on your service to your family, your family must be so proud. Darren. We have a letter from your family this morning. They told us all the secrets. Well be revealing those at 7 00 a. M. Very proud of you too. Oh right. By the way they are proud. But theres nothing good in those secrets. And i question the proud part. So. All right. Were going to use the virtual set this morning guys, as weve been doing and im sure jessica has gotten you guys all used to seeing this thing. It really does give a beautiful depiction of the bay. And the topography. A live view for downtown san jose right now. Couple of things about this morning. Theres no fog. Theres no marine layer and if we look at the readings, we can put all different kinds of details on the map. We were looking at rainfall totals with monday nights system. Now were looking at visibility. So the numbers on here are actually showing you how far you can see down the road. The reason im doing this is because were not using the fog feature. We can also display where the fog is filling in different parts of the bay. But were not doing that this morning. Because there isnt any. Were getting into fall. Which means were going to see less in the way of the the marine layer. So instead well track it this way. Theres one place to look at. Halfmoon bay. Your visibility is down to about five miles right now. So you can still see down the road just fine. Thats not fog. But its not the clear straight ten mile visibility that pretty much the rest of the bay has. Im going to switch the way we look at this now and instead of looking at visibility, i want you to see the current temperatures. And the only story that stands out here is besides everybody else, being right around 60 look at San Francisco. Most places are 60. But it is noticeably cooler in the north bay. You are down to 50 degrees in santa rosa and thats a pattern that we do start to see develop as we get into fall. So speaking of fall, and patterns, here comes the next fall system. There is another chance for rain. Its a really small bet and the rainfall totals would be really low but it is saturday. So lets play that forward on the longrange forecast. You can see what the first wave of rain looks like as it approaches the northwest coast. We will get some rain again. Up on that northwest coast for places like eureka as we get into say friday. But if we want to see what happens to the system next, we take it into the longrange forecast and we get the green blobs coming in right over pretty much the entirety of central california. Not the most detailed looking forecast and its a relatively recent development in the forecast as well. Notgoing to the bank too heavily on the notion of the totals being this impressive. But i can say with confidence now having looked at this yesterday, that the model hasnt waffled in about 24 hours now. Its held on to this idea even though its a new idea for it, that by saturday, weve got a chance of more light rain. What happens either way, whether we get the rain or not, the going to get cooler and it will probably get a bit breezy on saturday. And its not like a cold snap. You will see the numbers in one second. Lets get todays numbers on sheer. Showed the current numbers and these are the daytime highs for today. Starting out in the north bay. Dont expect a whole lot of difference from where you were yesterday. Still staying below average. The numbers through the heart of the bay struggling to get into the low and mid 70s in places and noticeably about five toserve degrees below average. To the south bay and that will be the next stop on the tour, those numbers are also in line with what you would expect for this time of year. All right, lets move on to the 7 day forecast. And when we do that, you are going to see monday even though it does get cooler, it i dont have rain on the 7 day forecast yet. So monday was never really the concern anyway. Saturday is the concern. And saturday, you can see the clouds have increased. The temperatures go down a bit. But we dont actually have rain at this point. Its a developing nuance to the forecast and well have more updates over the next 36 hours. So stay on top of that with us. All right, gianna, hows the drive looking out there . Look at this. Were going to start off with the live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. And it is already busy this morning. Those metering lights are officially on. And look at all those brake lights already for anyone making that ride out of the east bay over into San Francisco. It is slow and go. Not even 6 00 yet. This is a very busy ride and were definitely going to see these traffic patterns in the fall and winter as it gets more and more people out and about for when the holidays get a little bit closer. For some reason its busier at this time of year. Take a look at traffic here you can see that backup is well beyond the overpass and not quite to the foot of the maze but its bring there. Taking a look at traffic elsewhere. Live look at the nimitz. Still okay here for the most part. North and southbound moving along pretty well. South of there where you can tapping the brake lights on south 880. Extra busy for anyone connecting on to south 880 especially coming from that 580 and 238 connector. The Castro Valley y because theres a crash still blocking lanes and backing things up still in that area. Well, the 45th season of survivor is here and one bay area contestant is ready for the challenge. Austin lynncoon who grew up in san jose has been a longtime fan of the show. So i got a chance to chat with him about how he prepared for the competition physically and mentally. And even for the possibility of going days without food. Yew, no, i knew going into that i was going to be really hungry and thatches going to be you know, miserable at times for sure. I didnt do a lot of training for it. One thing i did to train was do like a 6 hour fast. I didnt eat for three days so i could get a peace of mind knowing okay, i could survive that. That way for the first couple of days i wasnt stressing about being hungry because we could focus on other parts of the game instead. Yeah. I could not do that. Currently austin a grad student in chicago and even though he likes the windy say, theres no place like home he says. In the winter, theres always days where im just like man, maybe so good to be back home in san jose. And enjoying nice 70degree winters. And you know, my family is there. So i try visiting multiple times a year. I usually spend at least a month. Return to the island of fiji with austin on survivor season 45 which premieres tonight on kpix and streaming on 44 cable 12.
