Morning. Everybody, its monday june 1st thanks a lot for joining us on the kron 00 04am morning news for this monday morning im Marty Gonzales and im robin when San Juan Creek was just one of several places are cities throughout the bay area that issued. A curfew last night and once again we saw looting all across the bay area from oakland to san jose won a creek in san leandro as well. And we also understand that there was a damage in walnut creek at the block of Broadway Plaza shopping center. Too soon to know just the total moneywise of the damage but it was extensive in that area which is part of a the center really of the Downtown Revitalization of walnut creek higher and shopping still shopping sores are there as well as very popular Smaller Stores as well we want to go live now kron 4 sarah stson. As shes preparing this a live report from there. We understand the Walnut Creek Police instituted a curfew for last night. Theres also one that set for tonight as well robin you have more on that and as we just look through some of the damage the broken windows you can see clothes are all over the place and. Wannacry police say that you know many of the Shopping Centers out near the Broadway Plaza, theyre going to be close for the foreseeable future they have so much that they have to clean up and repair. So lets check in with sarah get more details on the closures are in place the cleanup efforts that are happening this morning, sarah. Robin as you said that curfew was last night from 8 oclock until 5 this morning and that will be again tonight here at Broadway Plaza it is crazy to see how it has been ravaged by looters. Take a look at some of this video i shot was walking through Broadway Plaza earlier you can see just hangers scattered from people who literally stole clothing in the hangars just fell on the ground crazy to see a lot of store fronts like im here at lululemon there boarded up now, but last night they were broken into and shattered glass can be seen in front of a lot of stores. Dozens of people came out to Broadway Plaza and begin breaking into stores and stealing. I talked to a woman just now she was going for a run. She said there was a prior to a peaceful protest at civic park and then all the sudden a Different Group showed up. And came straight to Broadway Plaza. Theres about a 100 people or so and they just came in and started looting others a 100 calls for service to police in the afternoon hours heading into the night and thats what you see here the damage here at stores like macys and even a whats those pretzels kiosk had 2 broken window, someone stole the entire cash register, whether or not theres money inside we do not know the whole door risk on old navy was hit victorias secret was hit it comes to clothing racks completely empty. I talked with a long time walnut creek resident who was here during the looting chaos. He says hes disappointed. I said ive lived here for 40 years on on property here to see it go downhill like i wish the police took a stronger presence. I mean i saw girls walking out yesterday with arms full of close tabs on him by the police. Dont get arrested no one gets zip tied. You know that just gives an incentive to come back. The police however did make a number of arrests is what theyre saying theres more likely to occur in the coming days also we know a woman was shot near store that was being burglarized she was treated on scene taken to the hospital shes already recovering at home. I do want to that Broadway Plaza is private property so theres a lot of people coming down here just to look at the people who live here in walnut creek, its just not advise its private property clearly police you know are on high alert because of the looters and they dont want to confuse you with one of them so much just avoid the area trend just watch the news to see the damage because this area is closed off right driving into all the creek today i saw barricades, yellow caution tape. Its hard to get in here. I also just heard from several people one woman, a man and i confirms a Police Officer there is an actual protest. Today at 3 oclock at civic park we can expect to cover that in see more of that any parent or me talking to the mayor of walnut creek later in the 9 oclock show so make sure to tune in we talking to her about some of really just devastating times this looting that occurred here at Broadway Plaza for now send it back to you. You know sir i was just thinking you mentioned the protests that may happen later on this afternoon have you seen any store managers are maintenance teams out there maybe boarding up stores that were damaged last night in preparation for what may happen today have you seen anything like that. Robin good question police told me that they are going to be boarding up so expect to see some construction crews boarding up the areas that were not hit because this could very well happen again tonight, even though we have a curfew and i havent seen it with my own eyes yet, but im sure in the coming hours, robin though be clean up will be boarding up shop its hard to see, but i just talked to a woman she says from her eyes, it looked like there was a protest and then there was a separate looting, she was concerned that people may think that that peaceful protests at civic park just ended up here and she says according to her own eyes that was just not the case again well see if that protest leads to looting or separate leaders will come out robin, its really hard to see out here with all the shattered glass, it is it is indeed thank you for the update. Sara we appreciate it marty. Well we have more breaking news from overnight a walmart was on fire after reports of looting this is in san leandro the stores on davis street it happened about 10 oclock last night. Firefighters say that propane tanks exploded inside the store. Flames were seen shooting through the roof of the building no one was injured in the fire but according to firefighters, they say looters went through the store last night. The video shows items all knocked on to the floor and scattered on to the floor from the shelves. Firefighters are working this morning to put out hot spots and also determine the exact cause of the fire. And this is video out of san carlos this morning, a view kron 4 viewer sent us this video from last night saying that his Jewelry Store was looted. This is on laurel street in san carlos you can see the broken windows front the front door also broken display cases, the owner tells us no one was injured. But looters did get away with some merchandise. And in San Francisco, the protests continued as well on sundays stores were vandalized and looted. Kron fours will tran has been there throughout the morning on Market Street taking a look at the damage that was their will. Marty i dont have to move very far to show you the damage or the prevention of damage now im literally standing on new montgomery and this is the bank of america building or at least one of their offices and you can clearly see. It is boarded up and down Market Street. Either you see broken windows or you see things like this where they take preventative measures to stop their windows from being broken. Let me show you video of what happened over the weekend at city hall. Just like what we saw across america protesters, they all rallied they got together in this particular case, thousands of them in front of city hall. Talking about obviously george floyd and the injustice of what we saw in that video with a Police Officer. Putting his knee on George Floyds next they spent 9 minutes in silence and that is important because thats the amount the amount of time that george floyd had a need on his neck they read out some of George Floyds last few words it was peaceful not a problem, but then as the day moved on San Francisco mayor london breed out of an abundance of caution as he declared a state of emergency which meant they could not gather anymore after 8 oclock at night and that curfew went from 8 oclock until 5 oclock this morning. Most people they left the area peacefully not a problem. But as weve en in many cases there are some people who break away from the majority of people and then they moved through San Francisco specifically in the Civic Center Area let me show you video of that they move through the Civic Center Area and actually one point even try to hop on to the bay bridge. They burn trash bins they threw things at Police Officers. Police officers had to move in and arrest 80 people. A lot of them are juveniles. They did make 10 felony arrest, they went through a lot of backpacks and they saw weapons in one case they actually even saw a molotov cocktail. Heres San Francisco mayor london breed who by the way. She stands in support of the protests. She was moved to tears by what happened to george floyd but she did say she has a job to do. Extremely upset. Because unfortunately with some of the vandals they thought this was a game. They thought this was funny. And this is not funny. To damage property. To set fires that could lead to someone elses death. Fortunately we did not see any fatalities in the overnight hours we have learned that one Police Officer did suffer minor injuries even though mayor london breed stance in support of reform in solidarity with the protesters over the death of george floyd another the africanamerican men under the hands of Police Officers. Her home at one point actually have protesters in front as well. I can tell you marty and robin they actually called in about 200 additional Police Officers as part of mutual aid and just in case things get really out of hand they did tell the National Guard, the California National guard to be on standby by the way that curfew that was in justice sunday night into monday. It has been extended indefinitely for San Francisco and San Francisco it well thanks a lot for that live report from Market Street disturbing to see robin. Lets head over to the peninsula now police in coma say that 15 people that broke into a best buy store. And got away with more than 100,000 worth of merchandise. This is a picture of the store take a look you see the window broken their Police Arrested 3 women 2 were from richmond one from oakland and officers searched their car. They found suspected stolen items from various other bay area stores. The other suspects remain at large. In the east bay oakland Police Arrested about 60 people for vandalism looting in possession of firearms are also numerous incidents of looting and breakins in the fruitvale and international boulevard corridor is and throughout the city of oakland. Also multiple shots sideshows going on as well one person was arrested in a car was towed from the sideshow one officer was also injured, but police say hell be okay. Were slowly returning to guess somewhat normal on the back up here at the pay gates stretches to the bottom of the maze. Its been like this for a couple of hours now so yes theres a way no no major problems under 15 minutes into San Francisco, lets peek at another bridge 92 another busy one it is packed out of hayward over to the peninsula, but it remains trouble free. Well look at more bridges coming up a little bit later marty. Heres what weve got going on from tracker for again some cloud cover in our backyard a bit its all going to clear out as we get into the afternoon hours easily, heres a shot from a san jose states look at that the blue skies off to the foreground end of the distance there you can see still some of the lingering clouds temperatures in the lower 60s and portions of the east bay off to the distance 58. For livermore 61 san jose with the upper 50s lining up the east bay shoreline and 50s also in the peninsula at this hour. So were trying to get some sun try to peer through here at the bay bridge toll plaza were at 70 at 11 by 2 were at 79. Again buckle up for some triple digits possible this week well take a look at the 4 zone forecast and your extended and just a bit back to you. All right sounds good. Thank you dave. We appreciate that well check in with you a little bit later our top story that were following for you this half hour protests continue throughout the night in cities all across the country dozens of cities impose curfews some declared states of emergency and all this sparked by last weeks killing of george floyd while he was in Police Custody in minneapolis. Camila bernal is in minneapolis with the latest. A much more peaceful and less violent night here in minneapolis and even things this morning remain calm. I want to show you some of the people here at the intersection or george floyd had that horrific encounter with police some of them are sitting down some of them are kneeling but the idea is not only to keep things peaceful but to keep the focus on george floyd and not on the violence. It was another night of protests and unrest in cities across the country with incidents of violence from new york city to los angeles went for the ball has been knocked down that was no more that i dont have a voice anymore all sparked by the killing of 46 yearold george floyd who died in Police Custody, pleading for his life. As an officer in ad at least 40 cities have enacted nighttime curfews and more than a dozen states have deployed the national but not all demonstrations havebeen violent in minneapolis demonstrators, gathering at the intersection where 400 families to remember had the Minneapolis Police chief also took a knee at the site and acknowledge police needs to do better. Community members need to know that the men and women that put this badge on that they are doing so in service to them something they should not and they should not have to doubt they shouldnt have to the integrity in and if theyre going to treat in a compassionate and professional way. And the police chief also saying that all 4 of those officers bear the same responsibility. It is a welcome message for many of the protesters here who continue to call for criminal charges for all of the officers involved reporting in minneapolis. Im Camila Bernal back to you. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says the states attorney general will take the lead in any prosecutions in the death of george floyd the attorney representing floyds family says there is evidence of intense and charges for the former officer should be upgraded to firstdegree murder. We think that he had intent based on not the one minute to minute over 8 minutes, almost 9 minutes, yeah, he kept his knee him and make that was begun and clean and to a brown and what point does it not be about details of the mans face down with hand cars not posing a threat to an intentional to cause bodily hall. Results in death. Every prosecutor in america will show that that is firstdegree murder. The Minneapolis Police department has also fired 3 other officers who were on the scene when floyd died. Protesters have continued to call for those former officers to be arrested and charged as well. And in San Francisco, the demonstrations continued on sunday as stores were vandalized and looted kron fours will tran has been live for us said throughout the morning on Market Street taking a look at all the damage their will. Before we show you video from what happened over the weekend and the overnight hours. Let me show you whats going on on Market Street if youre coming down here either working driving by or just walking through Market Street you can see right behind me. Many windows are boarded up, so let me just give you a creekview im at the corner. Of market and new montgomery this corner is like many corners in downtown San Francisco. So you can see right here, ill zoom in. And you can see a lot of windows there or boarded up along that that particular section on Market Street theres gary delhi thats also boarded up this is new montgomery and you can see as i move the camera around. This is the bank of america building also boarded up and then they also made sure to make. George floyds name prominent throughout San Francisco. So you can clearly see this was the destruction and the business is doing preventative measures to make sure that their windows were not shattered, although there were some windows that i did see that were shattered and had to be boarded up now let me show you video of the weekend and the protests there whats going on. I can tell you in the overnight hours 80 people were arrested thats because mayor london breeds he issued a state of emergency declaring that people had to go home and stay inside starting at 8 oclock at night. All the way until 5 oclock in the morning because she did not want them on the streets to possibly either get hurt or even load. But a lot of people did do that the San FranciscoPolice Department actually had to call in about 200 additional officers for mutual aid, they moved in they arrested predominantly juveniles who were tagged and then released. As far as the other arrest 10 were felony arrests and they actually went through a lot of peoples backpacks assault weapons in one case they actually saw molotov cocktail fortunately, nobody died one officer did suffer a minor injury but should be ok this curfew is in definite because obviously this is not going anywhere. San Francisco Mayor london breed will have a News Conference at 11 oclock this morning and she will be joined by actor and activist jamie foxx to talk about whats going on and in case youre wondering. Mayor london breed she says shes also outrage by what happened what you saw in the video with george floyd. That she did say marty that she has a job to do and that job its to protect San Francisco property and more importantly lights will there is a demonstration we understand plan for walnut creek at 3 oclock this afternoon to you know anything about a demonstration planned for San Francisco later today. Nothing on the books oftentimes they reach out on social regis gathers its own momentum, we did see them in city hall on saturday and sunday but nothing organized but i doesnt take very long in this day and age with social media and text and all that marty so as you know when be surprising if they went out to city hall again more in that particular video we saw them. Outside a bart station so it can happen at any time which is why such an explosive situation that even the California National guard. They have en told by the city of San Francisco to be on standby in. Okay, thanks a lot. Well thats will trend reporting live for us from Market Street robin. All right, thank you still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news, the fortyniners take a bold step by pledging money to help fight social injustice will have that story after the break. A peek outside i see the sunshine peeking through a little bit lots of cloud cover in San Francisco will have the cloudy conditions this morning but it cat 1 friskies world cat 2 look at that cat 1 its made with real farmraised chicken cat 2 i gotta get my paws on that cat 1 its friskies farm favorites cat 2 the winning farmula. woman vo feed their fantasy. Friskies cat 1 look friskies ocean favorites yum happening today tolls are back on bay area freeways or express lanes actually a beginning now those expects express lanes on the following highways, well be reinstating the tolls that were temporarily suspended. They are i 5. 80 in Alameda County 6. 80 in contra costa county. Around 20 to 37 in Santa Clara County southbound i 6. 80 over the snow grade in alameda and santa clara counties and on weekdays those east signs over the express lanes will show the toll rates for single drivers who use those lanes. All right i guess all pay well overnight in the south bay presiding judge debra ryan or the closure of all Santa Clara County courthouse is effective immediately. The decision follows the announcement that the city of san jose issued a local emergency and citywide curfew the court is expected to announce an update later on this afternoon they for. No delays this morning we did have some fog one on but at least had a clear shot there was the birds like theyre theyre least taking off no delays for the bird bird bill. For the Storm Tracker for we do have still a cluster some cloud cover in some rain into southern california. High temperatures today, mid to upper 80s going on in the Central Valley rather 85 for sacramento, 66 San Francisco, 60 too for monterey in the 70s down to southern california. Again to note this clearing patch that we have developing oh yeah as it goes into the afternoon and lets just repeat this on into your tuesday as well even with the daytime heating looks like nothing happens of the sierra which by the way with the system getting here by this weekend might see some snow return a little bit from some of the Higher Elevations, lets run through it. Its somewhat uneventful this week as we have a heat spike at all but things change by this weekend here comes the system and behind it kind to punch a little colder that system is and potentially might even bring maybe some. Snow showers for some of those Higher Elevations to make note of our 4 zone forecast going on for today, 66 for San Francisco for daly city at 6461 pacifica 65 to Half Moon Bay in the upper 60s for the northern end of the peninsula to the south its and 70s territory, but only in some of its territory and the upper 70s, it looks like for the most part and the south bay upper 70s as well as countless at 7982 dough for morgan hill and 79 for help he does hes bay shoreline to the south where the middle 70s 80 Livermore Tri valley 79 for pleasanton 79 also dublin, 80 for walnut creek and 82 for concord and a watch out off to the east yeah in the arc of 85 tomorrow different story 85 fairfield 67 cool degrees 79 for napa sonoma 8282 also santa rosa point re about 66 here we have it and the 7 day forecast up to the upper 90s to near 100 tuesday wednesday, backing off a little bit as we get into the weekend and watching for successive systems to potentially bring us some rain and some mountain snows up in the sea air, although maybe token is just kind of meta no here it is in early june get some action check it out to area byways and highways whats going on robin. Well its busy out there a lot of folks are still surprised to see a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza but weve been telling you that each week it gets heavier and heavier as more and more folks return to work and thats exactly whats happening. The back of here has been a lingering for a few hours spilling beyond the end of a lot toward the bottom of the maze, but its quiet and trouble free still under 15 minutes into San Francisco, lets peek at somemore bridges like 92, its been a busy one to right the trip from hayward to the peninsula. You see the crowd lot of folks are heading to a foster city and san mateo so just be aware that theres going to be some sluggish traffic out there but still not bad with no major issues are hot spots marty. All right robin thank you protesters gathered in sandra fell in the north bay to speak out against Police Brutality in the wake of the death of george floyd organizers say they have not seen this many demonstrators out before to support black lives matter.
