We saw Contra Costa County experiencing similar conditions and that had let least 10 major fires in a 15 hour span wow, including one that marking his brain so officials are warning people to stay ready. Many residents have cleared that brush out of for their homes and Fire Departments have also done their share prescribed its an area that will not burn again this year that reduces the potential for fire here and specifically the potential for fire at this intersection which is critical to the evacuation routes out of north or end. Contra costa counties added several land fire engine crews to help it fires do for whatever reason breakout mardy i got a chance to talk to some people that live here this morning. A look at your weekend forecast on morning news in 2. Good morning, everybody welcome back a 7. 14 this saturday morning and were expecting some scorching temperatures inland, especially tomorrow, days far as going to tell us more about it heidi a good morning marty good morning, least a nice a beautiful picture that we have to start the day off to what shop may not hold as conditions change in offshore wind maybe potentially blowing some smoke our way. This is what it looks like the shot from u c berkeley to see some nice oranges off towards the background also, but the sunrise, heres a live shot coming in no delays from sfo. I mean get back those temperatures we have the lower 60s lining up east bay shoreline inland about 60s and 50s 50s a pair of the north bay here in 64, san jose, looking at the winds. Ok thats interesting on what happens here. This is a very late tonight. We see the winds shifting to Solano County. Also to napa county thats why they decided to put the red flag warning there and that timing as we go does not improve. Winds start to pick up there in Solano County also in napa very sensitive area up here and there may be some blowing dust to contend with up there to Solano County as well really it kind of hangs out there in the north bay for quite a while really doesnt let go. But also there as you can see is active in the east bay, too thats a good moisture levels with all of this as we go through the day today, the typical drop happens sure we expect all that. And overnight this is the best we can get by dawn tomorrow with no green around the bay like we typically have so carls taking the weekend off its kind of given this is what our humidity levels are along the east bay places like bilayer napa rather 29 relative humidity and the only part of the day so obviously doesnt get better during the day into the teens, it goes as they get the thrust of those offshore winds that are in place thats for our sunday and that will linger into monday morning. So our live shot coming in from the bay bridge toll plaza it is mostly sunny today mild to warm weve got 80s going on with a few inland 90s but then tomorrow, boy turning on upper 90s near 100 possible. That continues by the way it looks like into monday chipping away at that a little bit on tuesday and then really its the 90s left over after that point red flag warning will be in place for the dry offshore winds. Tonight through monday morning. Temperatures 74 San Francisco 80 going on for open oakland 81 san jose. Now inland youve been hearing about getting quite hosting an upper 80s and lower 90s most of the 80s up in the north bay, however, upstream for tomorrow. Well out a way with 90s to near 100 expected for your sunday and looks pretty hot into monday. We have more on that extended forecast into that party. So not a big shock here but weve learned nick mullens will be under center for the fortyniners on sunday head coach Kyle Shanahan announced he will get the start against the giants and Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to rest his ankle. Shanahan mentioned earlier this week that garoppolo likely wouldnt go while dealing with a high ankle sprain suffered against the jets. Now this will be mullens first start for the niners says 2018 but throughout the week, players and coaches have talked about their confidence in him. They say hes been ready to go and he has a similar style to jimmy g so the offense will have to make any major adjustments aside from the fact that George Kittle start Tevin Coleman and deebo samuel are all injured shanahan said he knows he will rely on the practice squad this season and hes been stressing to every player that your number could be called at any time. Thats why you put a lot of pressure on those guys every week because they think its a red sure year and they think they just going to develop and work 3 days a those guys get shocked and when they do get their opportunity. They dont get another one after so i constantly try to tell those guys because ive seen too many people. Get surprised when theyre open then this league passes him by very fast right. Also keep an eye on the defensive line nic both son solomon thomas are both done for the season with torn acl weve learned linebacker drake green lawn defensive end dee ford are also out this week. The niners added ziggy on sunday on jordan to bolster their roster on the defensive side. Well get a little bit of recovery tonight but not much of one dont respect much for a monday morning either. This is what were talking about the red flag warning in terms of coverage, not the east bay shoreline. But over the east bay hills Solano County are all involved in this as well. Winds could build up to about 35 Miles Per Hour. So little higher in those Higher Elevations, however as you can see former in and it was marine county with the Higher Elevations now its the whole county. Sonoma as well as napa counties all involved discusion idea in total peninsula technically, not in that, so they look at what we have today 80 going on in high noon at 3 oclock 88. Again tomorrow will be much hotter in the forecast. Well have more details on that in just a bit alright, dave thanks so much going to begin this hour in the east bay where contra costa counties expecting a dangerous myths. Of high temperatures low humidity and winds that will gust up to 50 miles an hour. Now there is a red flag warning going into effect at 9 oclock tonight. Kron fours reyna harvey is in Contra Costa County she has the latest there where the fire danger is very high right reyna. The m our dillon residents tell me you never can quite get to ready. Really hot days like today, im a Defensible Space is really important and thats why its important to do that. Well in advance for days like today, you can see according to the sign behind me. Fire officials are saying heat and the fire risk or today and the next few days, especially like dave mentioned we have temperatures that are going to be the triple digits across the east bay here in addition to that those strong winds. Its not going to help with all the dry brush, you know fueling that if a fire were to break out and if history is an indicator of anything we saw last season around the same time we had about 10 major fires break out in Contra Costa County in a 15 hour period can you imagine how fire crews were stretch trying to put that out including one that even jump the carquinez bridge officials are warning people to stay ready and be vigilant. Many residents have clear the brush out to create that Defensible Space like i mentioned around their properties Fire Departments have also done their share of prescribed burns now a mention ive been talking to residents live in the area and they talk about the heat over the next few days take a listen. But its going to extreme red hot. Kind of stay inside drink, lots of water thats good if you are fortunate to have family check on them and neighbors outside a good thing. Or you can have a great weekend stay home. That sounds like some good advice to stay home now contra costa counties at several wildland fire engine crews to help it fires do break out so you are living in the area, you know its going to be one you know its going to be hot. So lets just get all of that out of the way for now reporting here to read that rain harvey kron 4 news yan rain and not only hot today but scorching tomorrow its going to be much hotter tomorrow right. Yeah, i was looking at the temperature i mean fan or end mid 80s today theyre going to be in the mid 90s tomorrow, so its like a 10 degree difference in other areas like i hear out in 14 as going to be the triple digits. So its going to be hot. Unbearable and a lot of places so we dont want anybody suffering heat exhaustion, weve seen this a couple of weeks ago was out here talking about the same thing so lets stay prepare and be ready learning all right dana, thanks a lot for live report well check in with the with you in about an hour. The potential power shutoffs could be impacting at least 21,000 customers in parts of napa butte clueless and yuba counties in northern california. Now another great way to beat the heat this weekend is by spending some time at one of the many cooling centers in the bay area. Several cities will be opening during the heat wave, and you can find a list of all the available locations on our website at kron 4 dot com. Turning to politics this morning. We are now 38 days away from the president ial election and the race is heating up. Today the focus is on the president s new justice nomination, hes expected to choose judge, Amy Coney Barrett to replace Justice Ginsburg on the high court. She currently serves on the 7th us Circuit Court of appeals in chicago. She was also a clerk for the Late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and its considered by many conservatives to share his legal perspective. Now republican senators are expected to move forward to confirm the president s choice against the wishes of democrats and one of our political michael yaki well be talking to me about this likely choice coming up at 8. 30 this morning. And still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning. New plan to bring outdoor concerts back to San Francisco will have the details on a music permit for businesses can now apply for. And a call for justice is echoing across the country, including right here in the bay area following the ruling in the death of brianna taylor. Well have video of what we saw overnight. And as far as their tell us more about that. Good morning marty good morning everybody live shot coming in from walnut creek, not a bad day for still be living in the summer side, but oh boy were really putting the octane to it as we get into sunday and early next week live shot coming in from sfo did see a little bit of fog trying to make a little appearance there but no delays happening this morning. Temperatures already have antioch at 70 pretty much 60s cover, everybody else up livermore hang in there at 59, but not for long. Now look at those winds now theyre a little bit kind of drifting on shore through much of the day today and even by this evening around San Francisco looks like theyre doing the same as well as portions are in. But off the Solano County. The changes seen in this is now offshore diablo winds coming our way that will be all tonight through sunday tentatively that red flag warning will be with us to monday morning partially because will be banking off of a dry atmosphere by that point there you can see another dose winds coming for us by monday that remain offshore as our weather systems kind of reassess replace themselves around here, but but heres what happens the moisture levels this is typical in the Morning Hours with the word drier this morning. There you can see a little of that socalled recovery from last night little the marine layer come spilling back again thats typical evaporates away during the day mixes out. And tomorrow morning thats it thats always looking out that shows you how dry it is in the offshore winds already up there starting. So we have this for some dry air. The covers all of the east bay up to the north bay as well and you can see relative humidity levels by the afternoon tomorrow into the teens in most locations of course it will be blazing hot water to mostly sunny mild to warm thats the game plan today got a lot of 80s on the board some in lower 90s to whatever but then tomorrow turning hot. Were looking at a 100 possible. This is also going to be possible monday and still tuesdays well see a lot of those far east bay locations really pushed to the upper 90s for several days and that red flag warning that kicks in tonight is with us from 9 until monday morning at about 11. Forecast says 74 San Francisco 81 on for oakland 81 san jose across the wider geography most readings. Inland will be in the upper 80s few 90s poking out here and there of course well more on that in your 4 zone forecast in a bit marty all right dave seen a couple minutes, thanks a lot. Well, there is a new Permanent Program to help businesses and musicians in San Francisco. The citys Entertainment Commission Just Add Music permit will allow live music and amplified sound at restaurants cafes and outdoor shared spaces kron fours gayle ong has more on that. This program is part of the citys gradual reopening i did speak to one Small Business owner who plans to take advantage of this new permits to give his customers a better dining experience. Evan pala already has a dj for his restaurant muck andre on polk street and San Franciscos russian hill neighborhood. So when he heard about the citys new permit program Just Add Music is like she knows topic and this is going to be like a nice way to give people a little bit more of an experience a little bit more like theyre indoors. I would love to like how like a band or something just that we dont have a lot of real estate right now the program is part of the citys gradual reopening there are rules for performers such as know singing shouting or playing wind or brass instruments Public Health Officials Say these activities increase the risk of aerosol transmission of covid19 and of course, everyone Must Wear Masks and social distance Maggie Weiland the executive director of the citys Entertainment Commission says the program will bring other possibilities this will also contemplate bringing back on a news that want to take advantage of Outdoor Dining. Wyland says applying for a permit should be simple it could be you know intense that he has just a speaker to your outdoor area and doing amplified sound. Versus wanting to have more like an Outdoor Dining events thats a very surrounded around performance. Other businesses like farmers markets outdoor gyms and fitness classes and private parties on patios rooftops and parking lots are allowed to apply for this permit permits should be issued in the next week or so weve posted a link on our web site with all the details in San Francisco, gayle ong kron 4 news. And San Franciscos limit on Indoor Church Services getting the attention of the Justice Department of in washington dc attorneys, theyre sent a letter to mayor london breed on friday urging her to reopen places of worship. Now under the current covid19 restrictions outdoor Church Services are allowed with a maximum of 50 people but Indoor Services or not meantime other businesses like gyms and Fitness Centers have been allowed to reopen at 10 capacity. The department of justice claims these rules raised concerns about religious freedoms and might violate the first amendment. Mayor breed has not yet commented on that letter. Another grim milestone in the coronavirus pandemic to tell you about more than 7 million confirmed cases of covid19 across the country now and more than 203,000 people have died from the virus. Those numbers of course expected to rise in the weeks ahead. The cdc is now projecting that more than an hour up to 24,000 more americans could die between now and october 17th, and that would raise the u. S. Death toll past 226,000. Now these models do make various assumptions about the levels a physical distancing which may not reflect recent changes in behavior. Take a look at where things stand locally. The total number of covid cases here in the bay area has now surpassed 100,000 with nearly 1500 people who have died from the virus. In california there are 794,000 confirmed cases of covid19 and more than 15,000 people have died. Now to the east bay this morning and starting next week nail salons in Alameda County will be able to welcome back customers indoors. This is a one 80 from what the county Health Officials said earlier this week and it does fall in line with states state guidance, the change goes into effect on tuesday. Gov the 2020 mlb regular season will be coming to a close this sunday with several teams still battling for the final wildcard spots the San Francisco giants are one of those teams teetering on the brink of a playoff berth and they took on the San Diego Padres in a double header, they won the first game now lets go to game 2. Jeff some are just getting the start for the giants in this one top of the 6 padres leading by a run 2 on for Wilmer Flores he drive is this one high and deep to left field that is gone a threerun shot by flores that gives the giants a lead not so fast, its not over yet. Bottom of the 7th 2 on for the padres Trent Grisham at the plate. He hit a bomb to right field. There it goes into the cardboard cut outs thats a walkoff the giants have 2 more against the padres this weekend they are still in the hunt for the final nl wildcard spots and to the coliseum the as hosting the Seattle Mariners for a 3 game set this was scoreless heading into extras. Then in the 10th tied at 1 one on from arcana and he skies one to right center field Braden Bishop going back, but that one is over the wall for a tworun shot. As walk it off 3 to one the final in 10 innings game 00 02am tonight. So not a big shock here but weve learned nick mullens will be under center for the fortyniners on sunday head he will get the start against the giants and Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to rest his ankle. Thats why you put a lot of pressure on those guys every week because they think its a red sure year and they think they just going to develop and work 3 days a week. Those guys get shocked and when they do get their opportunity. They dont get another one after so i constantly try to tell those guys because ive seen too many people. Get surprised when theyre open then this leak passes him by very fast right. Also keep an eye on the defensive line nic both son solomon thomas are both done for the season with torn acl weve learned linebacker drake green lawn defensive end dee ford are also out this week. The niners added ziggy on sunday on jordan to bolster their roster on the defensive side. So dont be surprised if you see them in action on sunday, the 49 ers back at Metlife Stadium this time taking on the giants at 10 00am pacific time on to the nba playoffs heat celtics game 5 of the eastern conference finals. Miami led by as much as 12 in the 3rd celtics answered back in a big way up by 5 when jason tatum drops in that deep trae put the celtics up by 8. And this would be the dagger right here in the 4th celtics leading by 16 the pastor marcus smart to tatum there he goes laying it in and one. Grant williams look at him loving it doing is happy dance their 31 points and 10 rebounds for tatum that would do it celtics come back in take game 5 one 21 to one 08 the final score. They lived to see another day game 6. On sunday that does it for sports. Coming up this morning now heat high winds are causing a red flag warning to go into effect for the weekend in the bay area were tracking parts of the bay area that are most at risk will have that coming up. What youre made of, were made for. 31 the saturday morning, good morning, everybody welcome back to the kron 4 morning news, lets go ahead get a check of the forecast with Dave Spahr Heidi marty good morning and good morning, everybody live shot coming in from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge looking pretty sweet their little bit of a breeze to check in. And how about this at half moon you guys just hang is going hang out of this is one of the places of course to be to beat the heat but tomorrow we may be looking at numbers out here to about 80 degrees or so little bit of those offshore winds, you know get compressed going down over the hill so this is what the red flag warning says east bay shore lines, ok but over the east bay hills thats were going to watch out for those blow winds also in Solano County all coverage also napa sonoma and marin and are in not just the Higher Elevations here were looking for winds of 30 to up to 50 Miles Per Hour perhaps in those low relative humidity levels peninsula technically, not in there. And a good chunk of Santa Clara Valley is looking pretty good too 74. Antioch right now weve got 60s for most the east bay and the north bay that just about everybody on the map except kind of cool at Half Moon Bay, a 59. For comparison thats one of the colder spots to be found and that slowly evaporating away as were a little warmer today than yesterday pete that trend probably tomorrow, 80 by high noon 88 by 3. Well take a closer inspection of your highs today with that 4 zone forecast and the extended marty. All right dave thanks a lot for now to politics this morning were just 38 days away from the president ial election. President trump expected to mark this day by announcing his choice for the Supreme Court. The president talked to reporters yesterday about his likely choice of judge Amy Coney Barrett. Theyre all great could be any one of them. Could be actually any one of the lists. Outstanding. Really a Supreme Court nominee takes 10 weeks. 10 weeks from nomination until they are voting on the senate. Now despite the pushback from democrats republican senators are likely to confirm the president s choice. Democrats are also criticizing the fact that republicans are willing to call a vote so close to the election. When they blocked president obamas nominee in 2016 because it was an Election Year now with a new justice is confirmed this will mean that one 3rd of the justices on the high court. Well have been picked by President Trump. Sources within the Republican Party say they expect the president to choose judge Amy Coney Barrett. She current currently is serving on the 7th us court of appeals in chicago. She clerked for Late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and is considered by many conservatives to share his legal perspective. Now to get more on this from on this developing story this morning. We are joined live by one of our kron 4 political analyst michael yaki michael good morning. Good morning marty well michael it seems likely that its despite the protests of the democrats it seems likely the Coney Barrett is going to be confirmed by the senate is that what youre hearing as well. Its pretty much turned going to be a done deal barring some amazing revelation about her that would anchor. Candidates remember she just went through a confirmation process just a couple years ago so. I mean the crusie of what Mitch Mcconnell and the president are doing the fact theyre doing this less than 6 weeks before the before an election the confirmation will actually come about 2 weeks before an election i think this for around halloween, not maybe. I mean this is no great halloween trick or treat for a lot of people but but this is going to be a done deal. They needed force republican senators and effect and right now you only have maybe 2. The rest of lined up behind the president. And the democrats have a choice they make this a big fight or do they keep the focus on the campaign because thats really whats at stake here. Well just this morning, senator Elizabeth Warren tweeted quote an oak on the confirmation before inauguration does this lead you to believe that the Senate Democrats in congress will be having some type of a stalling tactic. I theyre theyre cut the procedural mechanisms that are available to the to that. The democrats in the senate are very few and far between i mean they can go through a bunch of motions they can continue calling procedural votes that would kind of dumb things up. But i think that that in the end its not going to work in the fact is. Part what i said before is partly this is about for trump. The search for 2 minutes because its a way to search get attention away from the pandemic and more on it shes a concert is bates and specially in this case abortion. This is a justice judge excuse me still a judge who is made it very clear that she is against abortion. She is on the bench as a record right now of ruling for more restrictive. Abortion abortion percent abortion out. Restrictions and in her writings has made it very clear she wishes of roe v wade overturned and shes made no bones about the fact that as a judge she believes that the Supreme Court justice has the right to review and overturn president. If if they believe is a really nice excited and she pretty much things that was so abortion rights around there. I think marriage could be on their obamacare is is on the chopping block. All these things that mean a lot to people now. Are at stake right are at stake. When she gets confirmed. Lets turn our attention now to the to the Election Campaign for a second look at this confirmation process and the impact it might have on the election is this a game changer. Well i think that trump wanted to be he wanted to suck all the oxygen out of the pandemic of this election or about his handling of the pandemic and 200,000 american lives being lost his mismanagement is phony science. The American People are going to were going to toss them out what hes trying to do is activate his base and and and obscure the sort of the thought about this election in turn into a referendum on moral moral values and morality the things that hes trying to get people out there to voter and forget about the fact that maybe their cousin or their grandmother or their parents or their child got really really sick or even died. I think thats whats been and so i think theres a theres a strategic. Calculation going on right now in the democratic party. How much of fight do we put up. How limited to fight may we put up so as not to distract from the campaign and you can see joe biden. Back on the pandemic and back on on trumps record rather than trying to get bogged down in a what i do a fire in the senate kind of kind of question which a lot of people ask him right now. Are you thinking then that thats biden strategy as we head into the first debate. Why again. Trump would like this to dominate the debate he wanted to be about i am im going to appoint prolife judge but remember which really at stake here. Abortion rights i think are in deep deep trouble obama care is in deep deep trouble, same marriage is in deep deep trouble, but it what is at crisis here is the fact that trump wants this appointment because he but hes won so it was going to be loyal to in attempting to ensure he gets reelected by hook or by crook and in this case. The legal stakes couldnt be higher if it is dead in entire trump in game is to have the Supreme Court. We ruled that whatever it is that hes trying to do stop the absentees throw out the absentees stop the election count. A lot of state legislatures to decide to better republican dummy to appoint electors in the electoral college. He wants or he was going from that that decision for him and so in in many ways, democracy itself is at stake with the confirmation. I think buried crusie itself is at stake with the Supreme Court nomination. Thats the real end game here that trump is trying to do because he is a he he is. He understands hes going to get blown out in the electoral coming up in the popular vote. He knows hes going to lose california by millions new york by millions, illinois others. If he can get it so that swing states like pennsylvania, wisconsin. Their ballots. Their absentee ballots which are in the hundreds of thousands or thrown out are tossed. Ruled invalid and that gets all the way up to the Supreme Court. Thats what you want he wants Supreme Court there with a solid 6 to 3 majority against in in in his favor is that john roberts can try and save rule liberals. Everybody, thank you so much for joining us on the kron 4 morning news, it is saturday september 26th, im Marty Gonzales and im Ella Sogomonian in for noelle bellow. We will have much more on all those stories in just a moment, but lets start with our top story this summer like heat wave hitting the bay area dave spahr standing by with your forecast good morning david good marty like good morning everybody, yes, those temperatures will be pushing up a little bit more so tomorrow than today so. This gives you just a flavor of whats coming our way for finish off the weekend early next week bay bridge toll plaza shot this cell thing too. Boy so can that blue skies to because i dont know how much of that were going to have as we get offshore winds developing. Heres a live shot coming in from Half Moon Bay very inviting it is to beat the heat a little bit. Although well be getting even warm there by tomorrow 74 conquered 70, antioch 60s cover elsewhere throughout the north the east bay rather north bay, were looking at 73 in in santa rosa at 7368 for napa 66 meanwhile for san jose. And a snapshot of what the winds are notice the arrows we like this pointing from the northwest and nothing is off shore. Yet that will happen by tonight so getting to that red flag warning here the Coverage Areas east of the east bay. Shoreline as you can notice here up the Solano County all the whole county napa sonoma and now or and it was the Higher Elevations in the earlier statements thats been amended now its the entire county and all of that and give you an idea the whole geography but insulin and San Francisco are absent from this list, but everybody else watch out this is for tonight through monday morning while war details and those winds and look at how dry its going to get back to you. Thanks so much dave not to put a damper on your morning but over the east bay Contra Costa County is expecting somewhat dangerous mix of high temperatures low humidity and wind gusts of up to 50 Miles Per Hour yet trifecta they dont want to deal with it is a red flag warning going into effect tonight at 9 oclock because of that. Kron fours reyna harvey live in Contra Costa County she has the latest for us mariella good morning. Hey, you know a lot of people say no matter how much you prepare for you just cant quite get ready for that hed you can see here the fire danger today across Contra Costa County out here. Its serene in addition to that you have nothing but dry brush and trees all around this area. So thats another issue that you run into like dave mentioned youre going to see temperatures in the triple digits across the east bay over the next few days and a lot of people are bracing for that in addition to that yet a lot of dry brush out here which really does not help of a fire it wants to break out. Thats why Defensible Space is so important we talked about in history is any indicator. Last october when Contra Costa County experienced similar conditions. At least 10 major fires we saw those happened in a 15 hour period, including one that even jump the carquinez bridge. Officials are warning people to stay ready. Many residents have done that clear brush out to create that Defensible Space like i mentioned also Fire Departments of also done their share of prescribed burns has been talking to residents who are not looking forward to the heat. One lady tells me what happened the last time they saw fires out here and what that meant for their health take a listen. Her especially here in it was closer to the fires in. Gosh could not brave. The masks have a little bit but people say its not the right kind of mask for that situation, but is better than nothing and so were sort of prepared. But prepared. Right now contra costa counties added several wild land fire engine in crews to help fires do break out and just like that one woman mentioned, you know its not just the heat, but its also the air quality we saw over the past few weeks just how bad dangerous it was for a lot of people out here they can barely breathe with the air condition. So thats something that people also have to take into account. So today, wherever you are just be mindful of all the conditions that you could potentially face and hopefully you dont see any fires but for now reporting here to render harvey kron 4 news. The key so much arena. Pg e is also tracking the forecast to try and figure out of it should be shutting off power to some areas. The utility wants to prevent its lines from starting wildfires because of the high winds. The potential power shutoffs could impact at least 21,000 customers in parts of napa butte plumas and yuba counties. And we are now 38 days away from the president ial election and the race is heating up. President trump was at a rally in atlanta last night and he appeared to mock News Coverage of his refusal to commit to a peaceful transition of power if he loses in november election and suggested that he was being sarcastic at the time. I tell you hes dictator weve been seeing. And in no circumstances will he give up power. He intends to serve at least 2 more terms. A big sur. You know you cant joe because you joke they take it away. The president s apparent refusal to commit to a peaceful transfer of power drew swift pushback from both parties in congress and lawmakers pledged to turn to unprecedented steps to ensure that he can not ignore the vote of the people. The president also expected to choose judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace Justice Ginsburg on the high court. She currently serves on the 7th us Circuit Court of appeals in chicago she was a clerk for Late Supreme Court justice. Antonin scalia, and shes considered by many conservatives to share his legal perspective. Republican senators are expected to move forward to confirm the president s choice against the wishes of course of democrats President Trump expected to make that official announcement of his pick about 2 oclock. Our time and coming up in about 24 minutes at 9. 30 this morning our political analysts will be examining the president s likely choice. And coming up this morning, it was opening day for a lot of Movie Theaters in the bay area were going to show you whats being done to try and keep you safe if you want to head inside a theater to escape the heat this weekend. And a call for justice echoing across the country, including right here in the bay area following a ruling in the death of brianna taylor. Well have what we saw welcome back demonstrations continue across the country and right here in the bay area. Protesters are demanding justice for Breonna Taylor after a decision on wednesday, not to file charges in her death in oakland more than a 100 people were protesting last night and this is video from the citizen app you can see some of the protesters taking those orange barriers and moving them out of the way you can also see Police Officers walking down the street in riot gear, this was the scene near 14th street, 3rd consecutive night of rallies. And never had faith that gave him the began when a i knew he was too inexperienced to do with the job of this caliber, i know he had already chosen to be on the wrong side of the law what he helped me realize is that it will always be the u. S. Against them, briana taylors family is speaking out for the First Time Since the grand jurys decision earlier this week. Her parents chose not to meet with reporters but instead briannas on stepped in to read the message of disappointment with judicial system family Attorney Benjamin Crump says that the grand jury transcripts in the case need to be released in the interest of transparency. The fbi is still investigating whether taylor civil rights were violated. Back to local news now this is what went up friday across the street from the vallejo Police Department. Its a billboard that says justice for Sean Monterrosa hes a young man that was shot and killed by Vallejo Police officer while crouching in front of a walgreens in june Police Body Camera video shows that the officer fired through the windshield of an Unmarked Police cruiser and that piece of evidence the windshield was actually destroyed. So far no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made but monterrosas family has filed a civil suit against the city of les home. Hey me a cool drink way event just enjoy myself by here Half Moon Bay could morning marty good morning, everybody, one of the places to escape. Yeah, looks like well be at the coast even though tomorrow even temperatures there will be warmer look pushing around 80 or so sfo little bit of that fog make an appearance but still planes coming and going and no delays being reported this morning there boy getting up to now 78 74 conquered 63 livermore up to the north bay here 68 for napa 73 for santa rosa and also nevado 64 checking in for San Francisco, lets get to those winds. Were talk ng about having to wait till tonight into that red flag warning thing kicks in and this is why you see the shift in winds right after the Witching Hour covering solano and also napa counties that gets a little bit more intense overnight even tomorrow morning spilling into the east bay too so thats while the red flag warning coverage was there. It also expands little further west later in the period there you see it by a monday morning. So this event will be with us. It looks like until monday morning and we could see a nice flow pattern from Solano County right on down San Pablo Bay across the golden gate going offshore for sunday and into sunday night. All right lets get to those winds now are the humidity levels that we look at this afternoon the not too much changes for today, you know we do some of the green, but it should come back tomorrow morning right. Not really our so called recovery isnt great in terms of getting that marine layer helping out with fog and all of that doesnt look its on the cars tomorrow and from that point on we continue to drop with the offshore wind influence. There you see the numbers well in the teens, even the 20s off here to the north bay. We take it out even till monday it looks like well still fairly be dry. Mostly sunny today, mild to warm. Got 80s going on with some 90s happening in lower 90s that that thats for today. Tomorrow we up that to upper 90s and 100 as possible turning hot for tomorrow, lets keep that from monday to why not even into tuesday, red flag warning thats from tonight through monday morning because of those dry offshore winds forecast 74 San Francisco, 81 san jose we do about an 84. Oakland, there we see the inland locations into the upper 80s to some token lower 90s like concord 92 east bay shoreline approaching about 80. Fremont forget about it youre probably be well in the 80s tomorrow, anyone meanwhile for san jose coming up a little bit of course well have that 4 zone forecast in check and your extended l a. Marty more than 7 million confirmed cases of covid19 have been reported across the country in more than 203,000 people have died from the virus. Those numbers are expected to continue to rise in the weeks ahead. The cdc is now projecting that up to 24,000 more americans could die between now and october 17th. So that would raise the u. S. Death toll to pass 226,000. Those models to make various assumptions about the levels of physical distancing which may not reflect recent changes in behavior. And heres that where things stand locally that total number of covid cases in the bay area has now surpassed 100,000 with nearly 1500 deaths across the state of california there have been 794,000 confirmed cases of covid19 and more than 15,000 people have died. And still ahead this morning, the fortyniners make it official they say nick mullens will be starting tomorrow against the giants in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo kayla mills has all that plus a san you just stop caring. I wonder what age that is. Simply ageless with hyaluronic complex. Plumps and hydrates for your best skin at any age. From easy, breezy, beautiful covergirl the 2020 mlb regular season will be coming to a close this sunday with several teams still battling for the final wildcard spots the San Francisco giants are one of those teams teetering on the brink of a playoff berth and they took on the San Diego Padres in a double header, they won the first game now lets go to game 2. So not a big shock here but weve learned nick mullens will be under center for the fortyniners on sunday head coach Kyle Shanahan announced. He will get the start against the giants and Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to rest his ankle. Thats why you put a lot of pressure on those guys every week because they think its a red sure year and they think they just going to develop and work 3 days a week. Those guys get shocked and when they do get their opportunity. They dont get another one after so i constantly try to tell those guys because ive seen too many people. It surprise when theyre open then this passes him by very fast right. And this would be the dagger right here in the 4th celtics leading by 16 deep pass from marcus smart to tatum there he goes laying it in and one. Grant williams look at him loving it doing is happy dance their 31 points and 10 rebounds for tatum that would do it celtics come back and take game 5 one 21 to one 08 the final score. They lived to see another day game 6. On sunday that does it for sports. Coming up on the kron 00 04am morning news, heat and high winds causing a red flag warning to go into effect this weekend. All these north bay counties all of these counties are involved in a beating like marine for example before which is these Higher Elevations now its everybody involved in there we could get winds even at the lower levels at around 50 Miles Per Hour at times here when it really gets blown. But looks like napa and Solano County. Theyre going to fare the biggest brunt of it in terms of the lower elevations and insula not involved in this and again that will be offshore but for now is on shore out of the northwest looking pretty good there again that will change in about 12 hours temperatures. 60s line up the east bay shoreline, some 70s up to the north bay and the far east bay too 66 san jose, 84 looks like by 1 oclock by 4 oclock 87. And you aint seen yet. As we get into tomorrow and monday very hot temperatures which will explore in your extended and of the 4 zone forecast for you as well l a. Thanks so much dave and we are now only 38 days away from the president ial election and President Trump is expected to mark this day by announcing his choice for the Supreme Court. The president talked to reporters yesterday about his likely choice of judge Amy Coney Barrett. President trump expected to nominate any amy coney Coney Barrett, a conservative judge from indiana she lives in south bend, indiana, shes a professor at notre dame university, and also sits on the u. S. Court of appeals for the 7th circuit based in chicago. Yeah mike lowe has a closer look at her lifes work for us this morning. Weve known her and i admired her and have great affection for for a long Time University of Notre Dame Law School professor paolo corrodes a first met Amy Coney Barrett 25 years ago when he was a young professor and she was in notre dame student now their colleagues at the law school there a great hope really in that and i a widespread perception that she would be a terrific justice issue are appointed wgn spotted barrett briefly returning home from the law school todayashe seen as a top candidate to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Barrett is 48 years old born in new orleans and now a south bend resident, shes married with 7 children and a mother of 7 including 2 of them have been adopted of course and. And so biracial family and. Also has child special needs. So im sure that those things you know really. Deep in her humanity in 1994, she earned her bachelors degree in english from Rhodes College in tennessee, then in 1997 she graduated from notre dames law school. She served as a clerk for Justice Antonin Scalia then went into private practice in washington d c before returning to notre dame as a professor in 2017 President Trump appointed her as a judge on the u. S. Court of appeals 7th circuit in chicago. The brilliant as a jurist serving razor sharp ability to integrate all sorts of and really take it to the heart of the matter is everybody whos ever worked with or seen that Democratic Leaders opposed the appointment of a new justice on both political and policy grounds they argue just 6 weeks from the president ial election. The voters should cast their ballots first and second they say the appointment of a conservative to replace the liberal stalwart could shift the balance of the court and perhaps open the door to reversals on health care lgbtq plus and abortion laws. Through the vacancy felling nominee of the trump administration. This really is an assault on all of those things history tradition rules and the Mutual Respect of the United States senate parent like her mentor Justice Scalia takes a strict construction list view of the constitution. Reviewing the role of the court as one of restraint not expansion she would bring a perspective that different from Ruth Bader Ginsburg you should be succeeding in that role. How that plays out in specific issues i think its very hard to say one on one interview with wgn americas joe donlon the president dropped hints about his pick will be appointing a woman to be announcing on saturday you know who is right now i have a pretty good idea havent made a final decision but pretty good idea. The president had previously set of barrett that he was quote saving her for ginsburg seat. Among berets friends. There is deep concern that the nomination hearings will turn into a circus and may center on her deeply held religious beliefs, something she addressed in her hearing when she was appointed to the federal bench in the rare circumstance that might ever arise, i cant imagine one sitting here now. Where i felt that i had Conscientious Objection to the law i would recuse i would never impose my own personal convictions upon law. Under the golden dome notre dame students could not be interviewed because of covid19 restrictions, but this time of year campus would typically be buzzing about a big saturday Football Game. This saturday. The focus will be politics. Not pigskin i have to think a lot of people will still be you know tunes to their televisions but it will be for the Football Game this time. To see what happens with regard to the nomination. Democrats are concerned the process is being rushed. Well congress has get to pass another Coronavirus Relief package, they also criticize the fact that republicans are willing to call a vote so close to the election. When they blocked president obamas nominee back in 2016 because it was an Election Year. And our last hour we talked with analyst michael yaki about the possible nomination now were joined live this morning by our other kron 4 political analyst Tom Del Beccaro tom good want to ask you why did Coney Barrett rise to the top of the list for President Trump. Well i think he wants someone who can trust in this role, you know republicans out take sooner. He turned out to be quite liberal on the court he wasnt the only one that they picked in the past that has done not and with a need you find someone that was schooled under scalia and scalia was very clear about the role of a judge which is to interpret law and actually scalia believes that the court should only say whether its constitutional it and it is then congress should have the say on how to govern america from its laws and then signed in by a president. And why is she a more desirable candidate weve seen her name come up before she was vetted previously to fill scalias seat and so once more were seeing her in this position. Yeah again you know republicans feel like may have been burned in the past biden pushed picks who and even judge roberts who were they were sold last being conservatives and and with the chief justice you can see that he has voted. The left side of the court, the liberal justices, a number of times including on the settled case of obamacare and so republicans this time around dont want that sort thing to happen again. Tom a. Are you hearing that this vote is going to take place before the election where we understand that some democratic senator warren tweeted this morning. No confirmation before inauguration will there be some democratic a stalling tactic. Steve thank. Why they definitely dont want think it would be a huge share fun, simple problem is you know what im going to turn you deals with duty and corporate boards you never have an even number that is a recipe for disaster on boards as it results in gridlock and for that the presidency look look i said months ago that this to be a drag on election was returns and everything like that. And the un and even court. You could you would then blame his 2 of them blame the republicans for leaving it in an even number after an election. So i think it will happen before. So this would be a 3rd pick to Supreme Court for the president is there anything in our constitution that would force a more balanced high court. Now this is the problem and this is why its such a and of course the democrats for years have cared very much about the court because they see cooling so the court favorable to their agenda. The republicans see judges who wont make decisions based on the agenda and so president directly which film will hold court in fact is hymns expanded in 18 oh one after lost the election expanded the federal courts really radically and filled with judges that he light after ian Lawson Thomas jefferson so now there is this is the prerogatives of president. Lets talk politics here for a second tom what impact do you see that this nomination and probably confirmation before the election having on the president ial election. So theres no science to this in the media and the media is this has never happened before i think in the short run it helps the democrats because this issue is so vital to that and it gives them the enthusiasm that frankly they lack in jills joe biden and so in the short run i think it helps the democrats i think would be deflating to them if the in fact she gets nominee and and put in position. But on the other hand this is another promise kept from President Trump he campaigned on list judges and hes Going Forward with it and hes going for with this particular justice who spoken about in the past so whether you like trump or not the reality remains that he tends to keep his work. And critics are pointing to the hypocrisy. Back in 2016 as mentioned president obama was blocked from appointing a Supreme Court judge because it was an Election Year. So when you say that. So keep in mind we have a 140 justices and 29 appointments were made in the last year of those 19 were approved 18 of them same parties says Something Like 16. 6 of justices were done during an Election Year. And the key is whether its the same party in the house and senate and the white house when it is they go through when it is not is only one time did didnt go sail through that way so thats been consistent throughout our history nearly 17 of all the judges appointed to the Supreme Court had been in an Election Year. And so this is no different and no one can really say that democrats would need to shoe on the other foot do this in fact it would be for them not to do. Tom thank you so much for your perspective, this Tom Del Beccaro thank hang on to your hats for the next 40 days this is going to while it really is i think i think you hit it right on the head and its going to be fascinating for us to be able to just as in life Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg made history as the first woman and first jewish person to lie in the state. At the u. S. Capitol president ial candidate, joe biden running mate senator Kamala Harris and Democratic Leaders senator Chuck Schumer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi were among those in attendance. Women congressional members of both parties lined up outside the steps of the capitol to honor Justice Ginsburg. Was a stirring ceremony yesterday bringing it back home now want to talk weather with dave spahr in davao are expecting some scorching temperatures inland, especially tomorrow on yeah its gonna start kicking in tomorrow will be with us monday maybe lingering a little bit tuesday, good morning marty good morning everybody in this is complicated by the fact we do have offshore winds. And there still is fires that are out there so an impact in terms of our air quality looks like that will go downhill on we get this with heat spikes anyway. We dont get the nice mixing occurring so that sometimes kind of poisons upper skies, a bit with these fires going beach and see what happens unfortunately that sfo shot. No delays occurring this morning. But you see a little bit of fog to try to make a little appearance. Temperatures for you get the upper 70s for antioch 70s 60s mixture up to the north bay east bay shoreline in the upper 60s was 66, san jose which doin this to us is a low off towards our east a high to the west. So the act is gears pulling in that dry offshore wind the diablo winds that were going to get starting late tonight with us through monday. It looks like futurecast winds, lets watch this into motion boom, heres the shift that happens up in Solano County will notice east bay too up to napa as well. This will be with us all tonight tomorrow morning to greet us. And the coverage also makes it back to marina looks like a little bit as we get into monday morning. So thats why they have that posted until monday morning with those winds highs today, not overly impressive in the Central Valley protein near about 90, whatever 91 per soccer mental but wait until we get into tomorrow and into monday, it looks like 84 san diego 75 for l a x checking out your 4 zone forecast somebody for San Francisco at the coast. Well do it about 70 or so but tomorrow looks like some locations make it to the upper 70s near about 80 we have mid 70s along the bay side heading down south. Theyre still only lower 80s today, redwood city 81 with san Carlos Foster city at 8077 from mountain view. And the Santa Clara Valley, most readings holding in the lower 80s 88 for morgan hill 84 for los gatos and the east bay shoreline to the south upper 70s, upper 80s for tri valley, 86 for dublin, 91 walnut creek 92 going on for concord san leandro 80 to 84 richmond. Solano county lower 90s hanging on there to the east 85 benicia and vallejo 85 also for napa 89 santa rose with more 80s heading down south again. Lets take the gloves off as we get into sunday into monday way those temperatures go monday the linger as late as tuesday as we flirt with near 100 and even after all of this. Were still in the middle 90s, the rest the week marty who ok thank you dave.
