Bonkers. There is the second cell going through. Came out of eastern Contra Costa County, oakley, antioch, brentwood and Discovery Bay and moved into mount diablo, bay point, walnut creek. That is the second cell moving through there is the first. That fella part once it got past concord and walnut creek. This will be likewise as well. Starting off with cool air. But the cone shows from walnut creek to berkeley. Berkeley would be more of a rain. Multiple cells are going bonkers in the north bay. From calistoga to southern end of lake county, middle town and Hidden Valley lake, santa rosa, windsor, now heading down to the Russian River, occidental and bodega bay and even more from the east. Up to calistoga as well. Look at that over san rafael. That is big time. Over to sebastopol and Russian River, forest villas well. Thats not the only one. You can see a little towards middleton here. Sal, youve had issues as well. I think some are rain related. Highway 4, i have to say, steve, is not doing well. And i think the wet weather there has definitely contributed. It is always slow on highway 4 of course. Lets go to the traffic. I want to start with the south bay. But we will get to the east bay. Northbound 280 up to highway 17, slow traffic. Also slow traffic on all of the south bay troys, including 85 which is backed up big time. Backing up before the exit here. And traffic will be busy as you drive through. All of it. Northbound 101 is also going to be slow as you drive up from southern san jose. 280 is slow approaching 17. 880 southbound between hayward and union city is slow. And so is the san mateo bridge. In other news, the oakland as have decided where to build the stadium. It will build the stadium off of interstate 880 near Laney College. Alex savidge is live at the site this morning with why the as have chosen that site. Reporter we have waited for this decision for quite a while. They have made it official. They want to build it here on these 13 acres of land owned by the Community College district. It is a small piece of land tucked in here near the intersection of 8th street and 5th avenue right next to interstate 880. And obviously fairly close to the lake merritt bart station as well. This is just across the way from Laney College here in oakland. And the as have decided this is the place to build. You talked about the convenience, in terms of being close to transportation. They want a new ballpark here that they are hoping the team will be playing in by 2023. Last night, the as president sent a letter to the chancellor of the peralta Community College district saying the site across from laney is, quote, a priority for the team. He wrote in the letter that, quote, we envision a sports related hub in oakland with new playing fields and facilities for Community Use serving as an anchor project to entice additional redevelopment, including significant commercial and residential uses. But one man who works close by here is somewhat skeptical about a ballpark at this location. I think theres a better place than this one. Why dont they just it is closer to bart. Why move away from there . Reporter now, for a long time the as have been considering three potential sites for the new stadium. One was the current coliseum site. Simply rebuilding there. They were also looking at a waterfront location at Howard Terminal near Jack London Square and considering the Peralta College site, the site close to Laney College. In this neighborhood, there is growing opposition to a ballpark being built here. Some believe that the stadium just cannot coexist with Laney College. It would be too difficult for those that go to school. Those who live nearby are worried about the low income neighbors being forced out once you have all of that development here. Nothing is set in stone here. The as still need to work out a deal and negotiate the terms of a deal with the peralta Community College district here. So a long way to go in this. But the as have finally selected a site for the new ballpark. Alex, i know the as looked largely to the public. I remember filling out that long survey about where would you like the new ballpark. What is most important to you. I expect this is mostly due to public input. Reporter i would certainly imagine so. We also know over the last however many months we have watched this Team Executives have visited all of the different sites as well. I remember watching them visit the Howard Terminal site near Jack London Square. The potential waterfront location. They made visits to this site as you can imagine. I think they looked at this and saw the convenience in terms of transportation just off of interstate 880, close to the bart station and near downtown. And i think that may have been a lot of what the appeal was, being close to downtown and having a new ballpark built in the middle of this neighborhood. Alex, i know youre going to talk to the mayor of oakland later this morning. We should have that on the 9 in reaction to the news. Reporter were hoping to. If the mayor is watching, make sure that you reach out to us, please. We would love to her hear thoughts on this new site. Thank you, alex. Alex savidge in oakland. Thank you. Time now is 7 08. U. S. It is a larger screen but a phone that is smaller than that in the past. Other features include selfies in portrait mode. No distinct home bud on. That is something that we have been talking about for a while. The technology from richer colors in the photograph and the rumor suggested the iphone 10 is priced at 999. It starts at that price. Busy wednesday, september 13th. Im gasia mikaelian. Good morning. Im dave clark. Parts of part of the reason is our weather. It has been a wild weather day. Crazy. A lot going on. Santa rosa right now seems to be taking the leader of the pack as far as the active weather. We still have a good cell that came out of eastern Contra Costa County. It is over walnut creek. There was a huge one over gilroy. That has since collapsed. Low clouds underneath and an on shore wind and even drizzle. But santa rosa looks to be the main focus and up to the Russian River. Santa rosa set off a lot of car alarms. Im sure. Lets take a look. Right there. Winds are up in cloverdale and hillsberg. Pretty good cell coming out of st. Helena and calistoga. You can see the Lightning Strikes, multiple Lightning Strikes going through Russian River for us, occidental and im sure heading over to bodega bay. Not too bad. You can see the cone. It will be there before 52 minutes in bodega bay. Not only that one. This is the second cell that came out. There is the first. It collapsed as it moved past concord and walnut creek. The second one is falling apart. Bethel island, Discovery Bay. Still pretty good over lafayette and orinda. It looks like it is heading towards parts of berkeley and richmond, piedmont area. Aloft it is off shore. 22 and gusts almost to 30. A possibility of Thunder Showers. It looks like the north and east bay are the leaders of the pack so far. 60s and 70s on the temps. Speaking of santa rose a you promised me and we have it for you. It is not as bad as i thought but there is slowing. We have to get to the slowest traffic in the bay. That would be the east bay. Steve and i have been talking about the east bay commute, especially highway 4. 80 is slow. Some people avoiding 680. When one freeway gets slow and these people avoid the other one, you can see the bay bridge toll plaza also has a delay. And this is a look now at highway 24. As you just saw a few moments ago, very slow traffic on 24 because of earlier crashes and some of the rain. We talked about highway 4. And just all of the slow traffic here. In fact i can bring up highway 4 for and you just kind of slide on over. It will be slow as you drive through. And we saw 80 as well. Now, steve was talking about it and he is absolutely right. So if steves job as a weather man doesnt work out, he can be a traffic guy. Highway 101 in santa rosa is slow. Just as he said it would be. Thats because of the weather that he mentioned moving through. If is your commute, you should add extra time. Fire crews in San Mateo County are busy in a rural part of the county. It has collapsed but heading over towards kensington and berkeley and maybe piedmont. You see the cone right there takes it over to sausalito, tiburon and over to north beach. You get light rain. Many of the images are out of Discovery Bay and antioch, the far east bay. We would love to see your pictures. Just go to our facebook or ktvu. Com. Lets go to steve paulson. The photos are always impressive. I bresch ate all of them i appreciate all of them but i havent had time to respond. Theres a lot of them. Earlier it was as gasia said brentwood and eastern Contra Costa County, it is all about you santa rosa right now. There has been some heavy rain and numerous Lightning Strikes and still coming down. Focused on some of them around santa rosa, down to park. It was near cloverdale, hillsberg. It went through right there. Coming out of Southern Lake county. And then also st. Helena, calistoga. In the last hour, hour and a half it has been all about santa rosa and the Russian River, over to bodega bay. Earlier two cells came out of the east and headed back over towards orinda and back over to berkeley. There is even a little cell in tiburon and sausalito. How about that. Stretching from oakland into San Francisco. Not a lot but a little bit. Where is the rain coming from . It is coming from the east. But the main show earlier was antioch, bay point, brentwood. Over to mount diablo, concord, walnut creek, clayton, into danville. Danville is on the southern edge of it. Two big cells there. Still cells rotating around south of santa cruz to highway 1 to marina. Multiple lines going through there. There was a huge heck of a cell near gilroy and hollister that collapsed. That is about to move inland towards the central coast. Until then, 60s, 70s. Low clouds. Did i mention there were low clouds earlier . And a cooler pattern. Plenty going on. Sal will tell you on his traffic map as to. Yes, sir. We have a lot of slow traffic. The east bay was very slow, is still very slow. Lets start with a look at the bay commute, which is the bay bridge which affects everyone. This has been uneventful but still very slow. The rest of the east bay commute has been slow because of the wet weather that steve was talking about all over the place. Especially where it has been wet, highway 24, 680, highway 4 is extremely slow. From antioch all the way to concord. 680 is backed up from the benecia bridge and down to 24. And 24 has not improved unfortunately. Theres a lot of slow traffic on 880 as well getting up to downtown oakland this morning. And were not for getting about the south bay. Northbound 280 and the 101 are all very slow. 8 03. Back to the desk. Thank you, sal. The oakland as know where they want to build the new ballpark. They have been planning to build a new stadium lake of lake merritt and near Laney College. Alex savidge is there this morning and with more on why the as chose that location. Reporter this site is near downtown oakland. Convenient from a transportation standpoint. One of the reasons that they want to build it here on these 13 acres of land. Near the intersection of 8th street and 5th avenue right next to 880 as you can see. So youve got the freeway close by. You also have the lake merritt bart station just a few blocks from here. Some of the reasons that the as want to build their new home here at this location. The team hoping to get the stadium built and have the team playing here by 2023. Now, last night the as president made the announcement in a letter that was sent to the chancellor of the peralta Community College district. You will remember the as had been considering three different sites for a new stadium. The current coliseum site, a waterfront location at Howard Terminal near Jack London Square, and then this site near Laney College. Already there is opposition to this ballpark. Some people spoke out last night at a peralta Community CollegeDistrict Board meeting. Some believe that the stadium cannot coexist with Laney College in this area. Others are worried about low income neighbors being pushed out by the development. One man who works nearby says that he is looking forward to a new stadium here. It is a good idea. Because you have the freeway here and bart over there. Close to downtown. The way theyre trying to build up downtown with the condos, people can ride their bike, walk and all that stuff. As far as location, i think it is a good spot. Reporter now, here is some of what the as president wrote in the letter to the Peralta College chancellor. We envision a sports related hub in oakland with new playing fields and facilities for Community Use serving as an anchor project to entice additional redevelopment including significant commercial and residential uses. We should point out that nothing is set in stone just yet. This deal far from done. The as still need to continue their negotiation with the district here. But the as say that this is where they want their new home to be. Theyre hoping to work out the terms of a deal soon. Alex, i know the mayor of oakland was in favor of that Howard Terminal site. I just wonder if she will come out and give the green light for the site that the as want to build there by laney. Yeah. We certainly do wonder. I mean, obviously, you know, she was partial to that site. A lot of people liked the idea of a ballpark right there on the waterfront. I mean, obviously we would have been talking about spectacular views. But, you know, for other reasons, the as went with this site. Were hoping to be able to speak with the mayor here in the next hour or so. We understand that she may make hour self available at city hall. Were going to head over there and try to catch up with her and see what her thoughts are on this location here at Peralta College, right across from Laney College and see if she thinks this is the right place tore the as to be here longterm. Alex savidge live in oakland. Thanks. Reporter all right. We will move to the latest on Hurricane Irma. The Broward County mayor announced five more deaths have been reported from the storm. Ill tell you, gasia, a lot of attitudes seem to be doing better today even though some of the folks in the battered areas are getting a clearer look at their homes and businesses. Residents of the hardest hit area, the florida keys, returning home or what is left of their homes. A quarter of the houses were destroyed by irma and nearly every home on the keys sustained some sort of damage. We had some leaks coming in weird places on the second floor. And theres leaks up on the first floor. It is somewhat better in other parts of florida where people are still grasping the full effects of the storm. Irma hitting some harder than others. These trailers were barely touched. While rvs a few feet away were obliterated by the winds. It literally lifted it up, took it over the tree, and set it down about 50 feet. Reporter many floridians remain in the dark. Basic necessities hard to come by like ac, water and gas. How long did you wait on that line . About an hour and a half. Wow. That is the first time that i found a station open around here. Reporter some struggling to get to the pump in time to fill up their cars. I am totally in the red. Yes. Yes.
