The rone ert Park Department of Public Safety says scammers are posing as pg e workers and threaten to disconnect utility pole unless an immediate payment is made. Officials say the scammers can make caller i. D. Numbers look like legitimate pg e phone numbers, and the thieves often ask for prepaid cash cards. Which pg e says it never does. Officials say if you get a call like that, and you have any doubt that it is real, hang up the phone, then call the Pg E Customer Service number, you can see it on your screen right here, or call the police. Time is 4 31. The San Francisco Fire Department is under investigation, by the state because of allegations that it allowed a group of paramedics to work without the proper credentials. As 2 investigates Candice Nguyen found out, the employees now fear their jobs are on the line. And say it is not their fault. The paramedics say this came as a huge surprise. Even though some were told this is a paperwork mistake, they say they feared their jobs, their reputation has been jeopardized. When every second counts, paramedics are some of the first on the scene. Highly skilled individuals, whose careers depend on the public trust. But on january 8, 13 paramedics received this letter of an opened investigation against their employer, the San Francisco Fire Department. A state Emergency Medical Services investigator is looking into whether the department allowed them to work in the field without proper county accreditation. Keep in mind, none of these people ever had a lapse in either their state license, or their city and county accreditation. Steven jacklony with San Francisco fire local 798 is representing the thirst paramedics. He says the paramedics are individually licensed. But the Fire Department made a clerical error. Allowing them to work in the field for months without the correct paperwork. That was reported back to the state. Now, if investigators decide to pull their licenses, these paramedics are worried, they may lose their jobs. Do you think the Fire Department dropped the ball . I think so, yes. Yes. Yes. I mean this was something that theyre in charge of. All of our members, all of the men and women of the Fire Department work so hard every day, you know, for the city, and for it to have this happen, you know, you make them upset and angry, and you obviously put, you know, some sort of fear that Something Else could happen to their livelihood, to their career. Since 2014, ktvu has been reporting on delays with ambulance response times in San Francisco. Jackalony says the city cant afford to lose even one paramedic. It could potentially cause a problem to the system here in city, which is already pushed to the limit. Why do you think this happened . You know, i dont know. Thats a great question p. I would love to know why that happened as well. How confident are you that this wont happen again . From my understanding, that they are working to both with the local agency, and with the state ems authority, that this doesnt happen again. What the Fire Department specifically is doing about it, i dont know. Ktvu, fox 2 news. Ktvu received a response from San Francisco fire lieutenant Jonathan Baxter who said, quote, there was a procedural error which was identified and immediately corrected. Safeguards have been put in place to prevent this type of error from occurring in the future. At no time was the publics safety compromised. Time is 4 34. That caused panic, as people realized they had no idea how to get to safety. Everyone was freaking out. Everyone was on their phone, theyre like, what do you do . Where do we go . I am sitting there, what do i do . What do i do . Theres got to be a better way, a better system for this. Hawaiian congressman wants hearings at the capitol and focus on how to prevent future false alarms and a faster way to let people know when a mistake has been made. It took 10 minutes to tweet a retraction of that warning. 38 minutes for a correction to go out to cell phones. The workers who pushed that wrong button, has been removed from the job, but has not been fired. Time is 4 35. Florida Authorities Say 50 people were able to safely escape from a shuttle boat that caught fire yesterday. The boat readily carries gamblers to and from the casino ship off the coast of floridas gulf. People jumped into the chilly waters to escape the flames. Passengers say the crew was very helpful getting that boat to shore. 15 people reported minor injuries. The cause. The fire is still under investigation. , time is 4 36. Well, crews are calling the catch a miracle. A baby was thrown out of a burning Apartment Building in georgia. A firefighter was able to catch a newborn baby, in midair, while fighting a large apartment fire. Several people were rescued. Including a woman in a wheelchair, who was pulled out of that burning building. But the Biggest Surprise to a fire captain was when she was climbing up the ladder, and saw a flash of blue baby blanket coming at her, with a newborn baby inside. I saw the blue blanket coming, all wrapped up and my hands came out of the water and i got him. No better feeling in the world to know that they get to go home, and that you had something to do with it. And now, the family that was trapped, they have eight children, all of them were safely rescued. Time is 4 37. Two people very lucky to be alive this morning. Their car plowed into the second floor of a building. Just incredible. Look at this. The car hit a Center Divider and then it flew into the air, right into the top floor of that building in santa ana. You can see the cars front half, wedged into the building. The back half is just hanging out. Amazingly, the two people in that car were not seriously hurt. Today, in indonesia, more than 50 people were hurt when the second floor collapsed inside the jakarta Stock Exchange. Still not clear why the mezzanine floor collapsed. Authorities say it doesnt appear to be connected to terrorism. There are reports hundreds of University Students were visiting the Stock Exchange at the time. Time is 4 37. And in the philippines, more than 9,000 people have been evacuated near a volcano that has been erupting. The mayan volcano has been spewing lava and ash since saturday. Authorities say the Pegasus Airline flight overshot an airstrip during a landing on saturday. The plane skidded over the edge of a cliff. One report says the only thing that kept that plane from plunging into the sea, its wheels were stuck in the mud. As you can imagine, chaos and panic erupted inside the plane, but all of the 162 passengers and crew members got out safely. Investigators have been questioning the pilots. Part of the settlement with the city of San Francisco, air bnb and another short term rental site, home away, agreed to require all hosts to register with the city by tomorrow. If the hosts dont register, they are supposed be kicked off the web site. According to the chronicle, the city says more than 2,000 homes had registered as of last thursday. But that is only a fraction of the more than 8,000 hosts listed on air bnb for San Francisco. Well, starting today, smart luggage is being banned by many airlines. Unless you take out the batteries. The luggage comes with usb ports to charge phones, and other devices. And there is concern about the lithium batteries inside, possibly starting a fire. American, southwest, delta, and other airlines will start requiring passengers to remove the batteries from smart luggage before they can check it in. If the bag will be traveling in the cabin, the battery can stay installed, as long as it is turned off. More airlines are expected to issue bans on the batteries in smart luggage in the coming months. Time is 4 43. Over the weekend, ford unveiled the new ranger pickup truck. The official unveiling was sunday. At the north American International auto show in detroit. The ranger was pulled from fords lineup in 2012, because of low sales. Uc santa cruz reportedly is making plans to accept 10,000 more students over the next 10 decades. Two decades. The Santa Cruz Sentinel says the chancellor wants to grow the student body by 50 by the year 2040. The newspaper says enrollment right now is capped at 19,500 students but the chancellors goal is to accept more students over the next 20 years, so the campus can become a more Prominent Research institution and also meet the needs of a growing number of applicants. So this exit here that we see, southbound 280, is the exit, the second alamany exit off of 101. You have to exit right here. And just to give you some perspective, this is the huge wall that is here, that is between, see, the freeway, the freeway northbound is up there, and you might actually see a car driving by, but there you go, you can see, thats northbound 280, and there is southbound 280, so you will not be able to get through, the best thing to do is to get on the freeway, and drive down to lets say monterey boulevard, and get on there, or actually go down to ocean geneva, or stay on 101, and use 380, and then reconnect with 280 that way. Were not sure how long this is going to take. Fortunately, this is light traffic at the time. All right, lets move along, with some of these in fact, i want to show you something, here is the area that i was talking about. And there is the closures. So traffic is going to be okay. I do want to mention that traffic on the freeway here is going to be okay, on the freeways, of the bay area, and it is light, because of the king holiday. And we dont see a lot going on. Fog is really the story here this morning. Maybe by later this afternoon, and tonight, to the north, we get some rain. It looks like for everybody late tonight, into tomorrow morning. And we will get a break on wednesday, an then another cooler colder system arrives thursday, friday. And maybe the strongest in the series is on tap, or at least being advertised for sunday into monday. There could be some very hefty rain totals, sevenday totals, certainly p up north. We will ease into it when we get closer to that. And by that i mean, ukiah north. Monday night, tuesday morning, rain returns thursday, friday, as well. Each of the systems will be a little bit stronger. Today is cloud cover more than anything else. Fog is the big story. And then a stronger system comes in on thursday. There wont be a lot with the first system. Maybe a quarter of an inch for some. I would think that might be on the high side here. Maybe a little bit more. A third of an inch to the north but the system on thursday and friday looks a lot better. 50s, low to mid, stuck in that fog. The high clouds should help. On the fog, but i think it is set for a day where there is going to be a wide variety of temperature, clouds and low clouds, it could be warmer and if you have the fog, it could be very cold. The number of flu deaths this year has led to a spike in the number of people trying to get a flu shot. Now, Health Officials have not said there is a vaccine shortage, but some pharmacies say even theyre out of it, or theyre in a very short supply of it, and it may take days to restock the flu vaccine. In that case, you have to use standard precautions, be extremely vigilant about being clean around people, and keeping away from sick contacts. Thats what you can do. At least 42 people have died from the flu in california since october. That includes 19 right here in the bay area. Health Officials Say many of those who died did not not get vaccinated.
