New at 7 30, there are now more than 11,000 coronavirus deaths being reported in the United States. According to Johns Hopkins school of medicine, the in our country now stands at 11,008. The states of new york and new jersey have combined for nearly 6,000 of those deaths. Here in california, almost 400 people have died of the coronavirus. Governor Gavin Newsome says he expects the outbreak to peak in midmay, but added there are already indications the hospitalization rate is slowing down. Meantime, nearly 20,000 people in the u. S. Have recovered from the coronavirus. The governor is reopening hospitals. Theyre saving facilities from shutting dorian during this health crisis, including Seton Medical Center in dayton city. They are looking to add about 1,000 more, and they say this is an out of an effort of extra precaution, being extra prepared. Theyre not running low on ventilators just yet, but theyre looking at the weeks and days ahead. So Santa Clara County leaders say they are willing to pay for these ventilators even if they are broken, about a thousand dollars apiece for any broken or nolongerused ventilator. Blue energy will refurbish those ventilators, as they have with hundreds of the machines already, and theyre hoping that Surgical Centers, elder care facilities and colleges and universities may have old machines they are not using right now. Now, this comes at the same time that governor Gavin Newsome announced, as a state, california is going to lend about 500 ventilator to other hot spots across the country. They will go to nevada, maryland, washington, d. C. The governor says california is projected to reach its peak number of covid19 cases in may, while other states are hitting their peak now. San Francisco Police are warning the public about a growing number of scams involving people trying to cash in on the coronavirus crisis. San franciscos police chief, phil scott, said the scammers often come to peoples homes, posing as City Employees or local Health Agency workers. They then offer to help them while theyre sheltering in place. The city is not sending workers to issue masks, nor are we sending workers to residential areas to inspect homes. California right now has a moratorium on evictions through the month of may, but tenants rights advocates say more has to be done to protect people who have lost their jobs. We know that many of our families will not be able to come up with the thousands of dollars needed to pay back rent that will accumulate by the end of the moratorium. Well state, and local lawmakers are asking Santa Clara CountyHealth Officials to reconsider a decision regarding selling recreational cannabis. Now, the countys Public Health officer announced only medical marijuana could be sold from dispensaries while Recreational Marijuana would have to be delivered. Members of the San Jose Council and the state Legislature Say that could force people to turn to the black market to buy marijuana, and hurt legal sellers in the long run. The lawmakers are encouraging the county to use social distancing requirements, like the ones used by the grocery stores. And Hilton Hotels and American Express are working together to help people on the front lines of this pandemic. From next monday until the end of may, the two companies will provide free hotel up to 1 million healthcare workers. And starting tomorrow, San Franciscos phils coffee, theyre going to reopen many of its cafes, but on a limited basis. Even if they are broken we are interested in ventilators because we want to make sure we can get as many as we can here to Santa Clara County. These are expensive high tech pieces of equipment. We know they are out there. Many eldercare facilities Surgical Centers and universities have ventilators that are currently not being used for the newly acquired ventilators would be distributed to 11 hospitals in the county. As weve been reporting Santa Clara County has the most coronavirus cases in the bay area with more than 1200 cases in Santa Clara County and 42 deaths there. As part of the total its now grown to 3800 cases in 97 deaths. The statewide death toll in california has climbed to 388 with more than 16,000 total cases. Santa clara county Health Officer is trying to ensure the stayathome efforts are working. The past three weeks of mandating people to stay home is producing tangible results. The governor announced as a state californias lending 500 ventilators to other hotspots across the country. They will go to nevada, maryland, washington dc. The governor says california has 11,000 on hand and they are expecting to get another 500 today or tomorrow. The governor says california right now can afford to share this equipment.
