Most of our people are by themselves in a piece of heavy equipment cab and a lot of that work is a naturally already socially distant from each other. It is an easy way to help keep the economy moving and still work on something important for our society and not put our people necessarily at risk. Across the country nearly empty air force stations are ta needed repairs to escalators, bathrooms and Railroad Tracks on this window of opportunity means thousands of construction workers are able to stay on the job and in some cases tackle projects which havent been upgraded in decades. It also means once the orders are lifted and people start traveling again they will notice smoother roads and all kinds of other improvements which will keep them a safer outside of their homes. A vallejo just celebrated a very special birthday this weekend and he did not want to make the day all about him but he also spent his day helping those around him. He is known to many for the toy drive fields every year and this weekend he celebrated his birthday in the same way that he does so many other things, he spent it helping others. And this is a video sent to us by his mom of his Birthday Celebration yet yesterday in vallejo and since he cannot sell right up close with his friends and family he had them drive by but they did not just honk and wave. He designed what looked like a mcdonalds drivethrough and as they drove by they gave extra change they had and they picked up his version of a happy meal. Bags which came complete with family treats and facemasks. By the time it was over he had raised 230 dollars that he will donate to the Ronald Mcdonald house. His mom also sent me this. It is his quarantine project. He had lots of people, me included, read passages from the song i would like to teach the world to sing and he put it all together to send a positive message during this difficult time. And did we mention he is just 12 . He is inspiring us while we shelter in place, happy birthday. A great job to him and his mom said he had a great day after he collected those donations and handed out the masks and he spent it laying playstation, what else would a 12yearold do. Good morning everyone and welcome back to mornings on 2 zach at 8 am with a beautiful shot of mount diablo where it looks like we have plenty of sunshine, a lot of fog and that marine layer still hovering over the bay and the coastal areas and that will break away for what looks like another stellar day. It is sunday, april 26 and good to have you on board i am Frank Mallicoat. Good morning i am Claudine Wong and lets bring in meteorologist Rosemary Orozco. Warmer temperatures are great and i do know that Sara Zendehnam love them but i have to say it is just a little hot. I like the cooldown and i felt the difference this morning, i am prepared for later in the week but this is the perfect day for me i think. I agree, bring those numbers out just a little bit and then after a few days we will pick it back up once again into the 90s how sarah likes it. Outside the doors, fog at the cosigner partly cloudy skies around the bay area, the onshore breeze slightly stronger through the delta this morning and these are all indicators we will see a cooler day in and around the bay area and 5 to 10b0 of cooling extracted are some of the inland cities as well as along the coastline we are starting out with morning clouds and will break away to partly cloudy conditions for most throughout the entire afternoon and temperatures write about where they should be. We have been a little warm for this time of year but it doesnt last. We have another heat up in the extended forecast as frank mentioned details today and what you can expect in the extended forecast coming up. There are 42,000 cases of coronavirus here in california. The death toll in our state has reached nearly 1700 people. Southern california has been hit the hardest in california with over 19,000 confirmed cases in Los Angeles County alone. Here in the bay area we have more than 7300 cases and there are now 259 people who have died Santa Clara County has the most cases in the bay area and you see that number on your screen is just over 2000 cases and as cases continue to rise doctor phalle g says he believes the goddesses should double coronavirus testing over the next two weeks and he said ramping up testing will only help in the stepbystep effort to reopen the country and right now the us is completing between 1. 5 and 2 million tests per week new drivethrough testing sites for People Living in three is space it is open tomorrow morning and that testing will take place at the Alameda County fairgrounds in pleasanton and the site will open monday through friday from nine until five. It is only available to People Living in the trivalley area and People Living in pleasanton, livermore and dublin and those asking to be tested must also have one of the following symptoms or conditions. A fever above 100, shortness of breath or respiratory symptoms, recent exposure or suspected exposure to the virus chronic medical condition like diabetes or a heart disease, or they must be 65 years or older. Today in San Francisco ucsf researchers are teaming up with local Public HealthCommunity Leaders to conduct tests San Franciscos Mission District. The goal of todays free testing is to determine how the virus is now spreading the San Francisco neighborhood which has had a very high infection rate and anyone who lives or works in the Mission District could be eligible and organizers stress the entire Testing Process is confidential. It will be slightly cooler today as rosemary mentioned but still shaping up to be a very nice day and the Bay Area Rapid many are looking to spend the weekend and some sunshine outside but we have to keep in mind we had the shelter in place order. Ktvus Sara Zendehnam joins us and i know you like the heat but this is really a time that it takes a little more self control to not violate some of these really important shelter in place orders we have as we enjoy the sunshine. That is right, you guys know me too well and i just love the 90b0 temperatures im probably alone saying that. But we are going on week six of the shelter in place order and when it is so nice out it is tough to stay inside our photographer was at the field earlier this morning and it is a gray and cool start to the day in San Francisco but we know yesterday a lot of people were taking advantage of that sunshine. Of course i concern right now is when people crowd the same areas and they are not maintaining social distance but for the most part Officials Say that people are following Health Guidelines. Some we spoke to said they wanted to take advantage of the warm weather but they were still trying to stay safe but not everyone is following the rules, some ignored signs and picnic areas around east bay picnic parks and the park is a 74 person team to oversee the parks and they will use a helicopter to keep their eye on things from the error. Officials say at first people not following orders could be warned but then they could face more serious consequences depending on the situation. The shelter and places opening up new opportunities to try new things and in San Francisco in a Pilot Program presidio streets are closed to cars to people outside more room to breathe which is a Welcome Change or one runner that we spoke to. It is rejuvenating, just to get the piece that we have not heard for a long time, ever since all the Transportation Network came over there is so many cars and so much noise. It is rejuvenating. It is mentally healthy and not the reverse. The crowds outside were bigger in Southern California and the weekend heatwave brought out tens of thousands of people to huntington and Newport Beach is and more are expected today. Video shows people laying out all over the sand and while some distance themselves others did not and governor gavin newsom reminded everyone it is okay to go outside and enjoy the outdoors im like hiking and walking and biking, all of the things are allowed under the shelter in place order but it is very important to maintain the social distance, wear a mask and do not gather in big groups reporting live Sara Zendehnam ktvu fox 2 news. As she just mentioned cities across the bay area are taking steps tell people keep that social distancing and avoid problems as these large crowds make other outdoors and starting today sausalito shut down all city parking lots on the weekends and holidays. They will keep those closures in effect indefinitely from 7 am until 9 pm. Uc san ill coronavirus patient was given a blood transfusion which included antibodies for the infection. It was like liquid gold, it looks golden and we felt it was so voluble and it came from someone who had covid before and was probably sick with covid and they wanted to give that back to the community. So we wanted to treat it with reverence and respect. Doctor peter chin said the plasma was donated to a blood bank in the stanford area from a person had recovered from covid 19 and it had the very same blood type is the critically ill patient and doctors are waiting to see if that experimental treatment is helpful and researchers hope the plasma will act as what they call a virus stun gun. Every time the virus makes more virus children it ramps up the body and the body gets angry and it causes more tissue disruption so if we shut down the virus from making more kids at least we can just concentrate on making the organs that are damaged heal and that is what we think will happen to the sickest patients. And in the less sick patients we just hope it will even prevent the organs from getting damaged in the first place. The doctor says researchers need to do more work to do that they need more donors who have recovered from the virus but donors must also have been symptomfree for at least 28 days. Were learning more about the first person in the us his death was linked to the coronavirus but according to the San Francisco chronicle 57 yearold Patricia Dowd from san jose suffered a heart attack they say was caused by covid 19. The paper obtained her autopsy which showed she suffered a massive heart attack caused by the coronavirus. It also showed that she had signs of infection in her heart, her lungs and intestines. The report also says she was quote mildly obese but no other medical problems. And doctors are starting to notice some coronavirus patients, even those who are asymptomatic, are having strokes. The Washington Post is reporting doctors are saying this strikes are happening to patients in their 30s and 40s and the type of stroke the patients are suffering are the deadliest type known as large vessel occlusions. Researchers believe strokes and covid 19 patients are linked to blood problems producing clots in the bodies of some patients. Lets switch gears and at a touch of the weather, where clouds on the coast but it is shaping up to be a pretty good day around the bay area rosemary. Yes, good morning, another fabulous one although not quite as warm as yesterday or the day before as we have that marine layer back with us, a little thicker and the onshore breeze a little stronger and partly cloudy skies around the bay area. Outside right now have a little communities but take a look at San Francisco. Covered in the clouds, cannot even see the skyline at this time, just areas near the bay bridge and just the base of the buildings. San francisco right now at 53 and santa rosa at 51 is an improvement over earlier this morning, santa rosa sank into the 40s this morning, 56 around livermore and around san jose inner east bay areas like livermore and they are enjoying sunshine. San francisco there is a mix of blue skies and fog this morning. Looking at 24 hour temperature change everyone is down by a few degrees, sfo down by three, a couple of degrees in palo alto and down by six in the south bay to san jose and then santa rosa in the north down by seven this morning but a view of some of the cloud cover along the coastline and inside the bay with fog in the clouds, that having to do with a system moving through the Pacific Northwest. As we take a view of some of the areas of fog this morning you see just inside the bay and east bayshore, but the coastline is seeing patchy dense fog this morning and Half Moon Bay reported visibility of half a mile. Generally light breezes around the bay area and fairfield has an onshore breeze at 15, yesterday it was a 5 to 10. Cool pacific air is moving in and how about what we can expect going into the second part of your day . Temperatures in the 50s and a few low 60s, areas of her livermore i expect to be mid to upper 70s for the afternoon today im quite nice and temperatures write about where they should be when i come back details on the afternoon highs around the entire region and a warmup coming our way in the extended forecast. Work crews are making progress on the deck replacement project in San Francisco and this is a live look at what they are doing and this is the construction site this morning, he sees are people out and as of the traffic moves to the right on your screen you see not a lot of traffic and that can be a very different situation. Usually on a sunday it is quiet it there is usually a lot of traffic being affected by construction work. Caltrans says work crews are making great progress and they were pouring cement overnight and replacing 800 feet of the highway bridge deck. All northbound traffic is been diverted off of highway 101 onto interstate 280 if youre traveling northbound 101 there will be delays along those lines many of us complain about roadwork during rush hour but obviously not a problem right now because there isnt any traffic really. Because of that, much needed infrastructure work getting done and we will tell you about some of the other projects happening right here in the bay areareporter call it the Silver Lining to somebody people staying home and off the roads because less traffic means construction crews can get a lot more work done faster and safer and with more workers assigned to each shift thanks to expanded lane closures and that is expediting road repairs across the country putting her on one of San Franciscos busiest thoroughfares 19th avenue. It is allowing us to work during the day and to do so safely, better quality, asphalt is always better when done during the day and has warmer temperatures than at night, a tremendous opportunity and not impacting traffic at all. According to state transportation officials traffic is down 36 which is helping accelerate numerous projects including work along 70 miles of scenic highway one in carmel with workers Wearing Masks and keeping safe space. Most of our people are by themselves in the cab of the heavy piece of equipment and an awful lot of that work is naturally already socially distant from each other and so it is an easy way to help keep the economy moving us to work on something important for our society and not that our people necessarily at risk. Across the country nearly empty airports and train stations are also taking care of needed repairs to escalators, bathrooms and Railroad Tracks, this window of opportunity meets thousands of construction workers are able to stay on the job and in some cases tackle projects which have not been upgraded in decades for it also means once the orders are lifted and people start traveling again they will notice smoother roads and all kinds of other improvements which will keep them safe or outside of their homes in San Francisco claudia callan fox news. Robert lee joins us live to talk about what is needed to get people and the economy healthy again. Its only human to find inspiration in nature. And also find answers. Our search to transform. Farm waste into renewable natural gas led chevron to partner with california bioenergy. Working to provide an alternative source of power. For a cleaner way forward. Whaso lets do the rightver chanthing, today. Ow. Lets stay at home. Lets wash up. Lets always keep our distance please, six feet apart at least. Lets look after ourselves, as well as others. It will all be worth it. We can all do our part. So those on the front line can do their part. And when this is over, we will all, continue, to thrive. The latest report shows it could be contracted by as much as 44 . A fifth one is already in the works. Joining us to talk about all of this is barbara lee. Thank you for joining us. Theres so much to talk about in terms of what has been done and what needs to be done Going Forward in this fifth bill as we are talking about it going ahead. What do you think hasnt been done that needs to be done . Let me take this moment and thank you for giving me a chance to be with you. But also to encourage everyone to continue physical distancing. I know as the weather gets better people are going to want to be out here many ways in gauge to normal activity. But this pandemic is definitely stopping that. Even though we are making progress we have to maintain that. Thankfully we are also here watching those essential workers who are putting their lives in the lines. Thank you to all of those front line essential workers. In the next bill, we have to fund our state and local governments. Because our essential workers work for state and local governments. So it is so important that you put funding into those accounts so that they have economic safety and security as well as the health of that is protected. How will the thing the government is working . We know there are many that are having trouble here. We know there is back and forth in congress in terms of Mitch Mcconnell suggesting that maybe states should file for bankruptcy. We have some talk about whether or not there is more spending that will reach a fight and how much more money can be going in . Were looking at a 3 trillion deficit. Is the agreement still happening in washington as we go into this bill . Can the American People say that they are still talking and getting along at least on some level in order to get the help to those who need it most . And all of the other people that may need help right now . This should definitely be bipartisan and we are working very closely with republicans to make it so. Senator mcconnell has no clue. There is no way even if state and local government should file bankruptcy when that will be scored here. And in the house the republican members did not ensure accountability here. Suite to Work Together to make sure this next bill does continue to be bipartisan. But it is so important to recognize the second thing that i want to mention in terms of the expansion as Food Security is a big issue here. You look at the lives of those who need food it is unconscionable that republicans would not let another plan to be here to supplement food stamps and snap in his report of the next bill. That is our patriotic and moral duty. To make sure people had the food that they need to feed their families during this pandemic. They have to understand and work in a bipartisan fashion to get this done. People are hungry in his district as well. People deserve to be protected. This is not a democratic or republican issue. Certainly nationwide issue. In terms of ripping up testing is there anything that congress can do . They said we should be doubling it but certainly everywhere we are seeing a lack of testing happening in terms of what Health Official say we need . There was 100 billion put in for hospitals in the last bill. We did put aside 25 billion. But we need to do a lot more. Because when you look at the disproportionate rates of death in the black and brown communities africanamericans and latinos and native americans and Asian Americans all dying in this proportionate amount of numbers. We understand the Underlying Health reasons for that. But this is an emergency. So more money should be put into Rapid Response tests you get those responses right away so we can be sure that testing takes place and families do not get infected. We also to make sure that we continue to do this by collecting the data. Based on ethnicity and socioeconomic data. For those immediately impacted. When you look at the community that is very most impacted dovray many tests being done. We need to put more money into our community. Me to extend unemployment compensation. We should have a guaranteed rebate at 2000 a month until this income for everyone. This is the wealthiest country in the world. Nobody should have to survive like this. And we dont know when the pandemic is going to end. So before we run out of time do you think congress will be able to do remote voting because that has been an issue and you think at this point as we are looking at the impact here . We are currently looking at a variety of options. They are proxy voting the strategies looking at remote voting. Thereve been challenges with the technology out here. There other ways continuing along with this process. Submit to figure out ways that we can continue to do the work of the people. It also make sure that we are going to those protocols that have been established. Are you worried about a big impact on the november election . We need to put more funding into the bill for voter protection. Vote by mail and more funding for absentee voting. And more funding for the postal service. Before we let you go, they go. So many issues here. We are currently out of time and a being told we dont have anymore but i wanted to ask you quickly about kim jongun and if you had any light you can shed on this growing mystery . We are only hearing what weve heard from the present. We cannot have the Intelligence Briefings because were not in washington dc. So classified information and information with Intelligence Community is currently classified. So we know what we know from the president and his spokesperson. Thank you again. It was great to hear from you. Thank you for the work you are doing. So much that continues to need to happen in washington dc with the remote or in person details to make sure that help is going to those that need it. Stay healthy and safe. We appreciate it. Thank you. You stay healthy as well. And hopefully my constituents are healthy and safe. If they need assistance with the federal government feel free to get in touch with my offense. My office.
