The Chinese Government is launching a new crack down aimed at silencing coronavirus survivors and their families. Gilead has previously said it would donate its available stock of the drug, and is ramping up production to make more. We are joint life internal medicine specialist, lets start with the situation in california. By the end of this week we know that the governor is planning to shift things into phase two, the reopening plan, loosening a lot of restrictions here. Im wondering if you can help everyone understand what the data is that the governor is looking at here. The key indicators that are allowing the reopening to continue like this. I think its a lot of data, obviously thats being looked at. We need to look at how many people are being hospitalized, how many cases of covid are we getting, and how many people ending up in icu. We are not seeing a spike so we are showing some stabilization was it a good thing. Other than that we are looking at other factors that we have to take into account, before we fully open up estate. Those factors are if we do have an outbreak, how are we going to control it. Are we able to test people. And how are we going to protect those that are most vulnerable. I think Governor Newsom, his task force there going to be taking into account. In reopening our state. Lets go there first, because california, last checked testing about 25,000 people a day. For the coronavirus. It seems like we want to be testing at least twice that many people a day here in our state. To really get a true sense of how the virus is spreading in the community. Do you feel like are we reopening too quickly in your mind, before we sort of have all of our testing capabilities lined up. Thats a good question, i dont think we are going to know whether we were truly ready to open up until we do so. With taking proper precautions. I think that is what Governor Newsom is doing. Hes doing the right thing by very slowly in four phases reopening the economy. Slowly so we can make sure that if we find anything that is alarming that we can trace back our steps, and we can make new modifications. You are right still ough. We are testing about ,000 people a day, and i think we really need to ramp it up. I think the goal was to try and get up to hundred thousand. We are not there yet. We were definitely working up to that number. I also remember back to the white house guidelines. They set up a bunch of criteria for states to me to begin reopening. You want to have a declining case is over two weeks. Be able to do Contact Tracing for those new cases. Obviously enough testing and enough hospital beds as well. We really sit back and look at it, it seems like a lot of the states including california, that are beginning to loosen restrictions havent meant those criteria yet. I think what would have been good in the situation is to have some kind of National Guidance so that all states who are following the same rules. I think given what we have, and given that we are following data and following science, where opening our economy back up very slowly. We are taking the precautions necessary, in case we do have another surgeons that we can control it. Now, we need to make sure that we are able to contact trace, that we are able to do that efficiently. Ucla and ucsf are starting programs they are going to be employing hundreds of people to do just that. I know that the big big factor in how we are going to be able to control new surgeons but we are working on things. I know there is a lot of things going on in the background. That we may not all be aware of but i think as far as on a state level, i think we are doing much better, than a lot of other states that i feel like our opening very prematurely. And very fast compared the antibody testing, a big role is going to play in the process. We are seeing a lot of companies rolling out at the same time there a lot of questions about the reliability. A high number of false positive returns on those test as you well know. How important is the antibody test, in terms of our broader strategy of reopening . There is so much we are learning its hard to say. Because, like you mentioned. There are so many hundreds and hundreds of tests out there. Some have fda approval, emergency authorization and most of them dont. Is we dont know how reliable they are, and because there are so many false positives, we can give false hope to people telling them that they are actually have antibodies for coronavirus but they may not because that was a false positive. In addition to having antibody doesnt really mean that you are immune to coronavirus. This is something that we are still learning about we are going to find out months later if someone had antibodies, that have exposure to the virus, and whether or not they got sick again. Theres so much out there that we are still learning, i dont think its as much importance as we are giving it right now. Even if you think you had it in the past, doesnt mean that you shouldnt stop that you shouldnt continue to practice social distancing. In these other safety measures. We have to leave it there, we always appreciate you coming on. Internal medicine specialist, thank you so much for your time. Thank you alex. Is because we reported earlier today, San Francisco officials coming after fire for providing alcohol, drugs, and tobacco to Homeless People living in hotels right now during the coronavirus pandemic. With regards to supporting people who are ion because they are covid positive. Our focus needs to be on supporting them and meeting them where they are. Meeting them where they are, so that they can be cared for, and the most appropriate way. In a way that is good for them. And for our community. Aware that the city says it works for them and for the community at large. The city confirms it is providing the substance for free via via a social media post. Officials defend the action saying it is not unique, and that is not paid for with tax dollars. Health Officials Say the strategy is scientifically proven to be more effective housing those with Mental Illness and substance of these issues in plicate the effort to hotels. Our philosophy in terms of treating people, who suffer from addiction, Substance Use orders is again focused on science and the medical literature. So for the city has not said where the funding is coming from again. Just saying that it is not being that talks paying dollars are not being used. Coming up here, a mothers day miracle, we will tell you here about a story how a bay area couple who is preparing for their first mothers day, a day they never thought would come. Warmer temperatures, the real warming that moves in a after t will it may be a while before restaurants are allowed to reopen their dining rooms. But, you may soon be able to eat alfresco at some restaurants in san mateo, city leaders there are eyeing a plan to shut down certain streets, and allow restaurants to set up socially distance tables outside. For more on this plan, we are joined now by san mateo mayor joe, bayer is good to have you on here, tell us what exactly your vision is. Is good to be with you two, we know that everyone here is hurting whether its physically, emotionally, or financially. And we are not going to survive this is main street doesnt survive this, we put together a team with the Economic Development team here at city hall, the Downtown San Mateo Association and the chamber of commerce. We are trying to create spaces outdoors, in the open air where people can sit down and eat. As the governors plan is implemented as we head into phase two, and phase three. We know that because of social distancing, restaurants arent going to be able to use all of the tables, in order to pay the bills, in order to open their doors, they are going to have to have spaces out in the open air, out in front of their restaurants, where they can see people safely, and comfortably. I know that we have so much precious food downtown. I cant wait to get back out there. I think a lot of folks are with you. We cannot wait to go enjoy a nice meal at some of these restaurants. That we have been missing here. But, explain, is there a possibility that this plan for outdoor seating, would be implemented even before california gives the green light for restaurants to open their dining rooms . We have a task force and i mentioned its going to be made up of our chamber of commerce, and our downtown association. With [ laughter ] is a great leader there. But also our Economic Development team in city hall. We want to provide those spaces, i know that restaurants are already providing takeout food, if people are able to sit down, in public areas, and to survive, we need to give socially distance. And they will be able to eat in opportunities to provide for the spaces too. That will be up to the task force to decide. Certainly, when the restaurants open their doors, and they are social distancing and to have open for dining and options, we those tables, and is not going to cost us very many parking need to have these options available for them, because if spaces, we can still have plenty of Parking Spaces for they dont survive, we dont people who want to dine in. Survive. Because, i think the key. Here, is that really the but, it really is about survival, and it is about saving san mateo downtown san mateo we need to do this for restaurants are going to look a lot different, even once dining them. Because they have been doing it rooms are reopen. Because we are going to have to for us for so long. Space out those tables. So what you are saying is if i want to tell you to restaurants are allowed to have partners that are having this even more tables that are are brad goldberg, and downtown outside, in an open area near the restaurant. Them potentially they can bring in more money. Customers otherwise would be limited right . To make this plan work of all san mateo. Thats exactly right, if keep us posted on the plan. Restaurants were allowed to open their doors tomorrow their some restaurants would never open their doors, because of that. San mateo mayor, really appreciate your time. Thank you for coming on. Thank you very much for thinking of us. Take care. Be safe. Thank you. We want to talk about the warm weather here in the bay area. Mark, do i have you . Youre still aside. Standing by alex.
