Protesters gathered near city hall, the intersection of 14th and broadway, just before 8 00 curfew, they were challenging the curfew, supporting useful demonstrators who were hit with teargas in oakland on monday night. But police kept their distance last night as officers were staying several blocks away. Police officers did not have to move in. The chief says they were ready to take action and disperse the crowd when violent agitators began disrupting the devastation. Really important our Community Knows we dont want to use these, but when they do they are judicious. And that we need to ensure the protection of those who are protecting our community. Oakland pd says in the past, demonstrations, violent agitators, have tossed bottles and rocks at their fellow officers. We now know the identity of a person suspected of looting, who was shot and killed by police in vallejo. 22yearold Sean Monterrosa of San Francisco was shot and killed by a Vallejo Police early, tuesday morning, outside a walgreens store on redwood street. Vallejos police chief says an officer shot after thinking he was reaching for a gun in his waistband. Two investigations later revealed the weapon was a long, 15 inch hammer, tucked into the pocket of his switcher. He was a well loved member of the community. This wasnt a person that was committing murder. This was not a person, from all the Information Available to us, this was not a person that should have ended up dead on monday night. Police say there has been widespread looting in vallejo this week. The arrest led Solano County officials to call in the National Guard to help event looting a business is considered high risk. At least 50 National Guard members are stationed there in vallejo. Lawenforcement experts say the looting that is coinciding with protests over the death of george floyd has been carried out by well coordinated criminals. Reportedly many looters have used meshingand other tactics to throw police off their trail. In the past, people have broken in and stolen merchandise, now did so as an opportunity. Hundreds arrested during the recent protests around the bay area, but how prosecutors will proceed with those cases does remain unclear. Police in San Francisco arrested or cited at least 146 people, Alameda County sheriffs office, and San Jose Police have arrested 180, since friday night. Legal experts say many of these cases probably will never see the inside of a courtroom. The difficulty with these mass protest arrests is that they are easy to make but very difficult to prosecute in court , because of the level of proof that is required, in court. In San Francisco, mayor london breed announced the curfew on sunday after eating and vandalism in the city, but yesterday she announced an end to the order, saying the city will continue to facilitate Peaceful Demonstrations. The curfew was amended to and after residents complained it violated their rights, including the right to assemble. The mayor says it is a tool to keep the peace. As owners are not worried about more looting. The mayor made it clear that if that happens they could put a curfew back in place. There was a peaceful protest, but they were met with tear gas from police. Dutchmans mayor later apologized, saying that was wrong.
