Well San Francisco has many empty storefronts, and for lease signs up all over the city. But one Bay Area Group is working with the city, trying to turn things around. And the plan is to bring a new group of pop up shops to San Francisco from an art gallery. There are little gems to a pottery shop, an add an event space for a public Radio Station. New signs of life quite literally popping up all across San Franciscos downtown. A space like this. When i first laid eyes on it, i was like, this is a diamond in the rough. Victor gonzalez among 17 Small Business owners granted a pop up shop through the citys new vacant to vibrant program. I lost count already. How many people have really, like, peeked in the doors . Are you guys open yet . The program, the brainchild of nonprofit sf new deal helping the city find new ways to solve its empty storefront problem. A vacancy rate which by some estimates now hovers around 15. Definitely arts and culture are part of what were talking about, about the new downtown. But Small Businesses also a part of it, hoping to welcome some whove never visited the downtown to stores like yonder on jackson street. Its been great. And coming from a completely different neighborhood. Its really kind of fun to have a completely set of new faces, different traffic, different neighborhood. Each pop up offered three months of free rent with the possibility of three more if they consider a long term lease. Im encouraged. Starting, then hopefully itll build into so a lot y area npriliate cal celebrating its pop ups opening back on jackson street, locals. I think the pop ups are great and legacy area businesses like restaurant cakery in agreement. This is whats going to make it better. Hoping the scrappy startups stick around for our patrons that have that show up a half hour early, theres no room at the bar. Go enjoy some art across the street. And the mayor expected to join city leaders in launching the program tomorrow during a ceremony at 11 in the morning. Thats what Steve Paulson says or as hot for some but today is the hottest day for all. Here were starting off with 50s and 60s. The cities the warmest. Unfortunately, the official temperature still does not work. Stop working at 453 on the fourth and hopefully well get that fixed soon. Its not that important. We do have clear skies, no fog yet. Some starts to creep back tomorrow. I think though today its too hot to handle unless you love the heat. No fog yet. Sunny and hot. Hottest day for most. I just said. All right. Theres not much separation here. 90s 92, 96. Sal is here at 501. Something new. We okay . Whats the dealio . Yeah, im looking here. Steve at the emeryville camera that we have. We have a crash at the macarthur maze eastbound 80. And its right over here. Its kind of hidden there, but traffic has been stopped for a bit here. The crash is somewhere in there. So thats cars that are coming this way off the bay bridge from San Francisco. And traffic is going to be somewhat affected as you come off the bay bridge and try to make that curve with emeryville. So were going to keep an eye on it for you. Its been there now for a little bit and traffic is beginning to slow off the bay bridge now at 501. Lets get back to the headlines. All right. Thank you, sal. Today, the long awaited blue angels air shows will begin this afternoon. Some of the pilots in the sky are making history. Ktvu james torres joins us live with a preview of the air show and the last few days of fleet week. Thats right, pam. Good morning, teal. If you stepped outside San Francisco at all in the last two days, you would have likely heard the roars of the jets as the blue angels spent some of those days practicing their airshows for the weekend. And the skies could not be more. Well, blue weather will actually be pretty warm. So keep that in mind if youre scoping out a spot to watch. But the fog really shouldnt be a problem, at least not compared to last year. Remember then the sunday shows were canceled because of that thick fog over the bay. We heard from the blue angels Commanding Officer who says San Francisco co is one of the only cities where the team of pilots visit every year. And its as exciting for them as it is for us San Francisco itself is a is a unique show site, being very close to downtown San Francisco, being close to the city. Also over water and being able to fly around so many just well known sites. People see alcatraz, people see the Golden Gate Bridge. They know what those things are without a word. So its very exciting to be able to fly a flight demonstration and in a in a city that is so well known throughout the country and really throughout the world. And as you watch, keep in mind who youre watching up in the sky. Youll see Lieutenant Commander scott goosen. He is a rather homecoming for him as he grew up in San Francisco. Also graduate of Saint Ignatius college prep back in 2006. Youll also witness history watching Lieutenant Commander amanda lee. She is the first woman to be part of a Blue Angels Team flying her first time here in San Francisco. As far as all of those other activities, fleet week has to offer, you will not be able to do any of those navy ship tours today. Thats because those ships will be part of the parade of ships later this morning. The blue angels will fly today, tomorrow and sunday. All of those shows starting at 3 00. Dave all right. Thank you, tom. Now, five and four will dignitaries from all over the nation travel to San Francisco honoring the life and legacy of senator Dianne Feinstein. Team tahoe, the list goes on. And on from the us capitol hill back to San Francisco, where Dianne Feinstein is our forever. Our mayor and many remembered the 90 year old senator as a political giant, a trailblazer for women, President Biden recorded an audio message celebrating senator feinsteins history, making career often the only woman in the room. She also mentored generations of women and men alike to imagine a bigger, more hopeful future for themselves, for the country and for the world. On this day of remembrance, reflect on the many ways that such a pioneer made history. And on top of Dianne Feinsteins many titles and roles within government, she was also warmly remembered as a beloved mother and grandmother to my grandmother for i promise to always work to my long suit, to earn my spurs, to keep going no matter what, and to never forget my black pantsuit. Your family loves you. We are so proud of you. We miss you and you will always, always be my sunshine. Its 510 and its hot and more hot weather will be here in the bay area today. It feels like summer even though its october. The heat had a lot of people seeking cooler weather, but hundreds of people actually took advantage of the sunshine to running, surfing, picnicking at San Franciscos ocean beach in other parts of San Francisco. Others just soaked up the warmth. Just deal with it. I drink water. I stay hydrated. I hit shelter. Youknor october. Our good friend kent miller says 85 in bodega bay yesterday. Thats hot for them. Thats insane. Thats hot for them. Im having a hard time believing that. But it was hot. Kent i believe you because Half Moon Bay was nice. 90 degrees in the city was 90. But its 58 in Half Moon Bay, sometimes in june and july. Thats your high temperature. 50 on most 70s for some bolinas in their lagunitas in their middle towns dropped to 49. But a lot of 50s here and that record high yesterday Half Moon Bay 93. The old mark was 82 in 2013. So they shattered that. Thats a big beat if you will. And these were the temps yesterday. Napa east wind will do it. Northeast wind all the time. 97 cordelia had an east wind 95 san jose was in their redwood city. San rafael concord, hayward, oakland. There were many, many that were in the 90s 93 to 95 category. Very hot forecast will fall off the cliff starting a little bit on saturday, a ton on sunday into monday and we might even have enough to usher in some rain on Tuesday Morning to the north 5060s on the temp some areas are warm, others are a little cooler. But 34 bookends. Truckee, south lake tahoe, 71 in monterey. How about that . Thats the warmest on the coast. The high is the fair weather friend. Today its hot on the coast, 85 to 90 hot. If youre used to 58 to 65. Thats hot. One more hot day now. Inland will still be warm to hot tomorrow, but coast and bay, i think start to dip a little bit and then everyone will sunday. And look at this on Tuesday Morning, maybe some rain again ill draw the line. Marin county, San Pablo Bay north looks to be about it could be drizzle south of that but one system before that over achieved so well see if this one does sunny for all today this will be the hottest day. 90s for most. I just dont see any way around it for today. But starting tomorrow maybe a little shallow layer of fog might make it underneath the wont impact the fleet week, but on sunday it could. The bases of the fog will come up and cooler for all starts. Then. Thank you, steve. The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded this morning. Ktvus bailey. Okay youre in alameda. But first lets go to Steve Paulson. Hes tracking the temperatures. The warmest is San Francisco at 70 degrees here at 530 in the morning, 57 though in palo alto and santa rosa. So theres some big differences on a lot of these temps at the coast is clear. Maybe tomorrow, a little shallow fog bank will come in. Itll be for some of you, too hot to handle. The coast is clear. No fog yet. Sunny and hot. I think today is the hottest day and 90s for many here across the board on this panel here. All right. Reporter Bailey Ocarroll is out in alameda at crown beach where its 68 degrees. Youre not going for a swim, are you, bailey . Oh, steve, i am not going for a swim. Oh, my gosh. I still have a coat on. Actually i spent six years in arizona, so. Oh, then this is cold. This is cold for you. Exactly. Exactly. So were talking about the heat. Its october. Its a little late. Some people welcoming the heat that will be here. Of course, not right now, at least for me. But coming a little bit later today, as we move further closer to that noon hour or so, some people welcoming the heat, others not so much because, you know, a lot of homes here dont have ac, which means it gets really hot in there. Some people telling us it even makes it difficult to sleep at night again, no ac which makes it really difficult for some of those people at night. Heres what some of them had to tell us. It was hot indoors. Yeah, it was really hard to fall asleep. You know, we dont have a we dont have an ac system. And so the fan was on, but it was still it was hard to sleep and its likely that many people will head to beach areas, coastal areas to try to beat that heat. We had one official record high yesterday day, only one not inland, not the bay. It was on the coast. And it was an unusual low location. Half moon bay, nine degrees. That broke the old record of 82, two 2013. So thats a thats a big beat there to beat it by that much hot thursday. Yes. These are the highs. Napa 97. Cordelia 95. San jose in there. Redwood city. San rafael concord. Hayward oakland. So many 90s. I mean, the panel could go on for another 15 or 20 locations. Mt. Veeder 76 northeast at four the northeast direction is not strong. Thats good. East wind at Ben Lomond Mountain, 74 in berkeley lab 75 have warmed degrees. Temperatures top out today. A slight cool down coast in bay saturday. Still hot inland. But then sunday zoo down we go and monday will drop a good 25 degrees for many 5060s on the temps 57 seems popular kelseyville is in there. Santa rosa is in there. Half moon bay is in there. A lot of mid 50s, upper 50s but mill valley, berkeley, oakland, sfo because of that easterly direction theyre all in the 60s mid 60s for some. Look at pacifica. One observation there at 74 degrees you get that east northeast breeze Los Altos Hills up in the warm layer as well. 70 degrees athertons 57. Stanford now 56. But san mateo and belmont at 62, 32. In mammoth, 34. Both truckee and south lake tahoe. Reno was 39. Now 41. Thats a big dome of High Pressure over the west. So hot on the coast, 85 to 90 for the coast is hot. Thats not warm. Thats hot. And inland temps also hot, although they could be we could be hotter. Weve had hotter octobers, you know that. According to the washington post, the meeting could be at the apec summit, which is set for next month in San Francisco. The white house is waiving 26 federal laws to allow the construction of this barrier. Its aimed at stopping migrants from crossing the border. Now hes getting a lot of pressure from democratic governors and mayors because of the influx of migrants into their cities and states. However for the president still thinks building a wall is not the answer. All the money was appropriated for the border wall. I tried to get them to reappropriate to redirect that money. They didnt. They wouldnt. And in the meantime, theres nothing under the law other than they have to use the money for what it was appropriated. I cant stop that. Do you believe the border wall works . No now, the president , as you heard him say, he tried to get lawmakers to redirect money , but congress refused to do it. So he said he had no choice but to use money from a trump border wall program. In 2019. And, you know, sometimes on fridays we do have a little bit of a break and were certainly hoping for that today. I dont see anything going on right now on the Richmond Bridge. You can see that traffic is looking good. Lets pop in on the Silicon Valley commute. That commute also looks very nice. And on the peninsula, it is good. So if youre trying to get, lets say, a flight out of sfo or Oakland Airport out this morning, there should be no trouble driving there or having your uber take you there or whatever Public Transportation is also a pretty good bet there is a problem and that is on 238 to 38 at east 14th, there is a crash and all of a sudden we have some slow traffic coming in through castro valley. The pattern to me looks to be transitory and nothing is locking in. So get 3 or 4 days of warm weather, hot weather, then well go 3 or 4 days of cool weather. Its not strong but i think today for many will be the hottest day but big changes on the way start sunday. Monday for sure. Tuesday could sweep in a little bit of light rain, mainly about Golden Gate Bridge. San pablo bay north is the way it looks to me. 80s for a few 90s for many. No fog yet a shallow layer is certainly possible tomorrow, one that comes underneath the golden gate heads out to alcatraz. That kind of song and dance. But then a deeper fog bank on our way for sunday and the monday 90s for most. I mean, its just above average here, but nothing unusual here. But still warm to hot inland on saturday. Well, if you stepped outside San Francisco at all in the last two days, you probably would have heard the roars of the jets as the blue angels had spent some of those days practicing their shows for the weekend. And we heard some of the blue angels and especially the Commanding Officer who says San Francisco is one of the only cities where the team of pilots visit every year. And its as exciting for them as it is for us. Now, part of that excitement comes from welcoming a weekend of nearperfect weather. It will be warm, especially this afternoon, but fog really shouldnt be a problem, at least not compared to what we saw last year when the fog forced the blue angels to cancel one day of their shows. Well, im really excited about this weekend. I think a lot of people are because it looks like the weathers going to be pretty friendly this weekend. And hopefully the fog stays clear of the bay. Com our time now 606 happening today, day three of the Kaiser Permanente strike and the final day of the walkout. 75,000 Kaiser Health care workers hit picket lines here in california and four other states demanding higher pay and increased staffing. The kaiser management blames the pandemic and inflation for driving up costs, making it hard to meet those demands and Keep Health Care affordable for patients. Some of it was because the pandemic was more costly, because they had to ensure sterility. But the people that were ensuring Infection Control are these people. Now, Kaiser Permanente says hospitals and Emergency Rooms are still open, but non Urgent Medical procedures are being postponed. The three day strike is due to end tomorrow. So however, kaiser workers could possibly walk out again next month if theres still no new contract. It appears the nations shortage of nurses will not end anytime soon. Public radio is the npr affiliate station for sacramento and has its main studios on the Sacramento State university campus. This week, half of the stations board of directors resigned amid concerns over the stations financial future. The student body president of Sacramento State university, sits on that board. Its clear to me that the board needs restructuring and that these members do need to resign in order to move forward and till we can find individuals who can follow how boards need to be run. Now, csu released an audit of capital public radio last month. It uncovered evidence of major financial mismanagement for the nonprofit Radio Station, which is largely funded by listener contributions. Our time is 609.
