Macomb native Barnes retires from US Navy

IPAVA/MACOMB— On Friday, United States Navy Capt. Anthony “Tony” Barnes retired from active duty with retirement and change of command ceremony at the Strategic Communications Wing ONE (SCW-1) Headquarters at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. The Ipava American Legion live-streamed the ceremony from its Facebook page at 1 p.m. Friday.  
Barnes, a Macomb native and graduate of Macomb High School, was relieved from his post as commander at SCW-1 by U.S. Navy Capt. Cedrick L. Jessup. Both Barnes and Jessup attended the ceremony with their respective families.
Retired Navy Rear Adm. Greg Slavonic served as the guest speaker during the ceremony. Slavonic, a 34-year Navy veteran, served during Vietnam, the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom before he retired and served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and Acting Under Secretary of the Navy during the Donald Trump administration.
