Communities across the country commemorated the fallen heroes of American armed forces with ceremonies on Memorial Day.
Ashland and Holmes counties were no exceptions.
Addressing the crowd at Ashland Cemetery was Mayor Matt Miller. The service was held after a parade that had about 70 units.
A large crowd lined West Main Street as the parade traveled west to the Ashland Cemetery for the Memorial Day service. Post commanders of the area veterans organizations were the marshals of the parade.
The family of Donald B. Williams, who was involved with the Ohio 1st Light Artillery Battery D re-enactors, dedicated a United States 10-pounder Parrott rifle in honor of Battery D. It is located at the cemetery next to the gazebo.
