Day. And while donald trump gets ready to rally in ohio today the walls could be closing in on his businesses, possible criminal charges could come as soon as next week. A former Trump Organization executive on with us in the last hour. So charges expected this week, think its just the Tip Of The Iceberg . Yes, absolutely. And hopefully it should be. We are going to tell you what to expect, and how the trumps are responding. Plus if you can say anything to your daddy right now, what would it be . It would be i miss you, and i love you. Extraordinary new testimony from George Floyds 7yearold daughter as former officer Derek Chauvin prepares to potentially spend the next two decades in prison. His legal troubles arent over yet. And youve heard the stories, youve seen the viral videos, unruly passengers and their bad in flight behavior, now prompting special new training for airline crews. Good morning, it is saturday, june 26th, im lindsay reiser. Its been a busy day throughout, ranging from minneapolis to washington, d. C. , of course, were starting with that frantic effort that is taking place right there in South Florida at this hour. Some 48 hours, in fact, after more than 48 hours after that building came down. Yeah, i mean, the numbers have not changed, sadly, 159 people still unaccounted for as of right now. At least four people have been confirmed dead. One of those people was, in fact, just identified as the mom of one of the victims who was safely pulled out of the rubble. Yeah, and you see these live pictures right now. At least the skies are a little bit clearer in surfside, florida right now but that effort does continue to try to find many of those who remain in that building. The conditions for Search And Rescue crews have been incredibly harrowing. Weve seen videos of them propping up Parking Garage Roofs as they try and get through that rubble. The fact that so few people, so few sadly bodies have been recovered really shows the conditions theyre working in. We also know the weather has been a challenge. Were going to get to the Miamidade County commissioner in a second. Take a look at that picture right now. You can see daylight through parts of that building where the other side of the structure should have remained. Its pretty telling and pretty shocking right now as you take a look at that. Family members have actually seen their own loved ones belongings, beds for example, but still no sign of their loved ones. Were going to go ahead and bring in a commissioner right now of Miamidade County, sally haymans, are you with us, sally . Yes. Good morning, thank you for being here. Morning. The governor of your state declaring a state of emergency, President Biden as well vowing federal support. How is the county stepping up to help with the Recovery Effort right now . The efforts have been incredible. Right from the start. Literally two days ago. Not only do we have our own fire rescue just internationally for Search And Rescue but all over South Florida, municipalities and Broward County but we have other states coming in, mexico and israel with their task force, l. A. Sending theirs, its been exceptional. We are averaging approximately 300 personnel on site in the building. You cant quite see it, or building structure. But theyre above, theyre on top, theyre below, theyre subterranean. At all levels. Unfortunately weve been dealing with thunder and lightning storms throughout, but also we had two fires, one was of great significance. We finally had the firefighters prevail over the inspectors to argue, allowing them to get into what was already classified and certified as an unsafe structure, which is unreal, and get in there to try and stop the fire so they could refocus the priority. Search, rescue, recovery. And theres still hope. Our task force have layers with pockets. We will be sending in additional dogs as the opportunities prevail once its shored up and theyre tunnelling as we speak. Theyre working 24 hours a day. Can you explain a little bit more of that process, that tunnelling . I mean you just mentioned theyre bringing dogs in, what else are we going to see happen just in the next few hours here . We have an entire team that is doing literally Bucket Sifting and shifting debris safely with the idea that bodies are below and we are hopeful some are still alive in those particular areas. They are literally shifting the debris to an area where it can be removed and clear other areas of debris. Lightening weight and hopefully obstructions, and we have all kinds of technology on the ground. We have drones in the air, and of course youre seeing a lot of wonderful Task Force Members from Search And Rescues locally and now were seeing around the world. Yeah, and i do know that it is a herculean effort thats taking place right there and our primary concern is the Search And Rescue operation right now. There will be plenty of time to figure out what happened. But were getting some reports right now, including one from 2018 that was released overnight, that shows that there was some major damages, cracks even, and flooding throughout the building. And while it doesnt necessarily explain the collapse, some of these issues could have become very serious. What do you make of it . Im concerned. I have to tell you, i heard about that. You know, you listen to a lot of things. Someone suggested sinkholes. You know, climate change. You know, i like to work on fact. And im glad we have forensic people there from the county and the state that have been on site as early as they could be watching everything from Debris Removal for evidence. You know, its going to take a while to determine the cause. I have cracks of settlement in my house built in 55 but we have historic buildings. This building has been through hurricanes, our season is six months every year. And other things. But, you know, it needs to be determined. The focus, instead of hypothesizing needs to be on thoughts, prayers, and lets do what we can to avail as much opportunities with our First Responders to pull some survivors from the scene. Its been done before, hours, days, even, i think the longest was over a week. From debris in a third world country. Lets see what we can do with the best of our responders. Yeah, commissioner heyman, the latest number we have is 159 unaccounted for but i know that youve done interviews with some other news outlets in which you have said not all those people were in the building, this is seasonal, people come and go. Do you have any updated numbers that youve been able to deduce about how many people still are unaccounted for . What i heard from yeah, i actually was there yesterday, we crossed through a list without taking paperwork to see who should have been there and confirmed to be there based on their lifestyle. Thats who were classifying as unaccountable. We had 99 was the last one on that list. You have other people that may have had someone visiting, or they may have been away because the kids at camp. Its still so fluid. You know, were depending on loved ones and neighbors to tell us what was going on, were they there. We learned last night that someone that should have been there was inconvenienced, so he got a hotel. And it was just hours before the building was compromised. So its a fluid number. Were depending on people who know, matter of fact, to tell us. We have a lot of people waiting to know that are touched familywise. And i know you mentioned that there have been incidents in the past where people have been pulled from the rubble days, weeks. I believe youre referring to haiti, 27 days after that earthquake in 2010, someone was pulled alive there. But at this point, seeing that rubble, seeing the effort that has taken place, the fires, the rain, all of that, do you still hold out hope that well find somebody alive . Actually, yes. Im a work on facts person. The hope is there. You have one side that is absolutely compromised. It is rubble, rubble, rubble on top. But on the other side you have entire walls still up, and you have incredible pocket of areas and you have subterranean structure thats held up by cars below it. And so, yeah, it depends on what part of it and we were watching yesterday our Task Force Men and women going in, Clearing Out Debris Big enough for not only them to crawl through initially, but to later on, after they shored it up, put the dogs in. So im hopeful that we can find those pockets. We got the best. And i think thoughts and prayers need to be in that direction. Commissioner heyman, we share that hope with you. And we just really appreciate you coming on to talk about this, this morning. Obviously our whole nation is breaking for your community right now. Thank you for your time. Thank you. Appreciate it. This morning were following Breaking News in the investigations into former president Donald Trumps business dealings. The Manhattan District Attorneys Office is considering criminal charges against the Trump Organization and its chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg as soon as next week. A lawyer for the former president called potential charges completely outrageous and said donald trump himself will not face charges. We will now turn to somebody we often turn to in times like these, former federal prosecutor Glen Kirshner and matthew dowd. Glen, were hearing what these charges could be related to, tax evasion, big expensive perks for executives. What are your predictions . Lindsay, an organization, a business, is indicted for criminal activity, it means of necessity, that members of that organization committed crimes, right . Organizations dont File Tax Returns themselves. People who work for and run those organizations File Tax Returns. And cy vance is looking into whether there was tax crimes, financial crimes committed by the Trump Organization and theyre focusing on Allen Weisselberg because he was the person who knew to the penny what was going into and what was going out of the Trump Organization. This could be the first step, an indictment of the Trump Organization and that kind of an indictment would not necessarily lead to incarceration or conviction of the people who run the organization. But it can lead to serious fines and penalties. It can certainly cause clients to run for the hills. It can cause Financial Institutions to stop loaning money to the Trump Organization. It can cause contracts to be cancelled. It can be the death nell for the organization but frankly more importantly it feels like the first step toward potential criminal liability for those who run the Trump Organization. Yeah, thats what a lot of people are saying, including barbara rice, who was a former employee for more than a decade at the Trump Organization, saying its the Tip Of The Iceberg. Lets take a little bit more of the times reporting right now, because theyre saying the charges against the company could flip the ceo Allen Weisselberg and convince him to cooperate with prosecutors against trump. Glenn, so far apparently, as far as we know, has not been cooperating with prosecutors. Do you get a sense that this could be that sort of move that would flip him . You know, Pressure Versus pipes, the more pressure d. A. Vance can put on Allen Weisselberg, weve heard hes also investigating Allen Weisselbergs sons both of whom worked in Donald Trumps orbit for potential crimes. The more pressure they can put on weisselberg, the more likely it is he will flip against donald trump. But heres the big ticket question, does d. A. Vance absolutely need weisselbergs cooperation or does he just want weisselbergs cooperation . And i have to believe with eight years worth of Tax Documents and financial records that cy vance now has, he may want but not necessarily need Allen Weisselbergs cooperation. Okay. Matthew, were going to see the former president Back On The Road today in ohio. Do you think that this news of an indictment, or, in fact, if we do end up seeing charges this week, could start to chip away at this untouchable image that he has tried to present . Well, as i listen to this and all the stories coming into this what i was thinking about is how for 240 years weve struggled with the idea that equal justice applies to all which is why i think this is so important that justice applies to both the powerful and the partisanship and all of that and once we hold accountability, i dont think any of these charges will affect his base. I think theyve decided that no matter what, the ends justify the means in this approach. So theyre willing to, you know, throw away the idea that holding Somebody Accountable for whatever they did before, or now, theyre willing to throw away the idea that, like yeah, democracys a nice thing, but not if it gets in the way of what we want to do, what our own personal opinion is on this, and so i hope this Accountability Affects and is actually held against donald trump, but i dont think the 30 or the 25 of the country thats lined up with him will be at all moved against him because of this. And matthew, yes, well talk well have time to look at the political aspect, all of this, but im struck by how monumental this could end up being this week. Have we ever had a former president , ever, or his organizations that have come under criminal charges before . I know weve said it a lot with trump being in uncharted territory but this just seems just amazingly historic week ahead, possibly. Well, the donald Trump Presidency has been historic in corruption to begin with. Weve never had a president thats been impeached twice. Weve never had a president with this many people close to him that were either indicted or were prosecuted in the course weve never had that, whether it was watergate or teapot dome, weve never had a presidency where corruption seems to be the song of the day. And when weve had this, so were in historical territory which is completely unusual. But again i think the question for most americans is, will justice finally prevail in this . And i think thats still an open question. Will justice prevail, whether its Criminal Court Or Civil court. I think thats still an open question. I hope its answered because i hope it convinces americans that Justice Works no matter if youre powerful. Its an open question right now. Well leave it right there. Great to see you this morning. Thanks, guys. Former Police Officer Derek Chauvin sentenced to 22 1 2 years in prison but his legal troubles are far from over. Back now with the new reaction to Derek Chauvins sentencing, its pouring in this morning, the former minneapolis Police Officer sentenced to 22 1 2 years in prison, George Floyds family wanted a 30year sentence. But chauvins legal woes are not over yet as he faces a separate federal case accusing him of violating floyds civil rights and another teenagers rights back in 2017. Megan fitzgerald is in minneapolis with the latest. Megan, good morning. Reporter good morning, i can tell you it was an emotional day inside the courtroom. Before the judge came down with the sentence, the court heard victim impact statements from four of George Floyds Family Members including his 7yearold daughter, his two brothers emotional as they tried to make the case explaining to the judge they felt that Derek Chauvin should receive the maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. Take a listen. I havent had a real nights sleep because of the nating mares because of the constant hearing his pleas for his life over and over again, even saying theyre going to kill me, please, officer, screaming for our mom. Any Family Member that has went through this, we are part of a fraternity of families. And its not its not one of those, you know, fraternities that you enjoy. Reporter the court also hearing for the first time from Derek Chauvins mother who said her son is not a racist, and that hes a good man and of course she was calling for a lesser time in prison, a lesser sentence. The court also hearing from Derek Chauvin, who spoke briefly, but offered condolences to George Floyds family. Now that Derek Chauvin has been sentenced, he can appeal the conviction, many legal experts say its likely, though, that he could spend more time in prison because he is facing those two federal indictments. Meagan fitzgerald, thank you, joining me is the Reverend Al Sharpton. Thank you for being with us here. 22 1 2 years. You were with the family when that was handed down. What was their reaction and do you feel that justice has been served . Well, the familys reaction was they wanted 30 years. They braced themselves in case they got less. The lawyers had said it could be, according to state guidelines, 15. So they were relieved that he did get a substantial sentence, but they still wanted more. I personally felt that even though it made history that it was the largest sentence given a Police Officer for killing a black man in the history of minnesota, on the one hand it is historic. On the other hand its historic because the history is so bad. When you look at the federal charges that he is now being charged for violating George Floyds civil rights and the rights of someone several years ago it shows how long and how sordid that history has been in terms of Holding Police accountable, not only in minnesota, but around the country. And we heard from Chauvin Yesterday for the first time. He was brief. He gave his condolences to the floyd family and he said there would be more information coming that could give them peace of mind. Of course, not sure anything could at this point. But what did you make of his comments . I was baffled. I looked at the Family Members and the lawyers, everyone was baffled, and coming back to new york last night, you know, as much as you can text and communicate, no one knows. Unless hes alluding to things that his federal trial or his negotiations with federal authorities, no one can figure out what he could possibly be referring to. But to say that it would lead to their peace of mind, i think, is presumptuous at best. As far as Police Reform here, lawmakers are saying negotiations will continue in the George Floyd Justice and policing act into july but with know the president s deadline has come and gone. Do you still hold onto faith this will pass . Ive been at the forefront of pushing for it. Weve been in meetings, both by zoom, virtually, and in person with republicans and democratic senators. But there are some things that we when i say we, im talking about the leaders of National Civil rights organizations and the family will not negotiate out. So there is, i can say, some agreement on some points but there are still one or two things that are above compromise. The family and i reiterated that yesterday for minneapolis, the term i used, and were going to deal with it tonight on Politics Nation, and the term i used is theres a difference between two slices of bread and a sandwich. To have a sandwich you need meat in the middle. Dont take the meat out of the bill and call it the george floyd bill. Thats where we are with that. Were determined to get some meat in the bread. We know the statue of george floyd was vandalized with a White Supremacy marking, a week after it was unveiled. With some floyd family present. Police are looking for suspects here. Your thoughts . It was indicative, and instructive at the same time of telling us that theres still a lot of malice and hate out there. Even though we saw this outpouring of people of all races standing up for justice for floyd. The good news is, weve seen as many whites as blacks, sometimes more and a lot of the mass marches and demonstrations, and young people, including members of National Action network where they yesterday were holding a vigil at the smeared vandalized statue while we were in minneapolis and the family was encouraged to see that those young people came and rallied around that vandalized statue. I was proud because my daughters led it. Reverend al sharptop, thank you so much, we will all be watching Politics Nation today on msnbc at 5 00 p. M. Eastern. They barely had time to celebrate President Bidens Infrastructure Plan, less than 48 hours after lawmakers agreed on a bipartisan deal. Gop senators are threatening to pull out after President Biden said he wouldnt sign the nearly 600 billion Infrastructure Plan without the simultaneous passage of an even more expensive democrat only budget package. Nbc news political reporter Amanda Golden is joining us now on capitol hill. Amanda, good morning. Good morning, lindsay, not to lay on an additional infrastructure puns here but there is a bumpy road ahead but President Biden making this announcement this bipartisan deal has been reached with that group of five democratic and five republican senators he went on to say he would only move forward if in tandem that reconciliation for just democratic priorities would also be passed. Linking the two together has increasingly frustrated especially republicans and heres some of what Senate Minority leader Mitch Mcconnell had to say right after that announcement from President Biden. The president goes out for the Second Press Conference and says unless you pass my tax bill i wont sign the Infrastructure Bill. Weve gone from optimism to pessimism as a result of the president s Second Press Conference. Reporter its important to note that republicans had been aware that democrats were going to push forward with this Reconciliation Plan in order to get their own priorities passed, to get some of those social infrastructure things in a multitrillion deal. They said that was fine. Democrats were going to raise taxes to do it. But republicans could run against them politically, especially in the 2022 midterms against that message. The fact that biden is now linking these two packages, both the bipartisan bill and the Reconciliation Package together and saying he would only pass one with the other, thats causing the concern here, and thats what you hear from mcconnell. But i should note its also not just republicans but some of the moderate democrats, including those within this Bipartisan Group negotiating at the white house are now increasingly worried about this linkage here and that includes senator joe manchin. They have said theyre okay with reconciliation. They just thought it would be a separate conversation. Thats what were hearing from some of the democratic aides around all of this. Bidens working the phones and he actually had a conversation with senator sinema, one key line out of this readout we got from the white house. The white house said the president reeit rated strong support for the fwp Infrastructure Bill and a Reconciliation Bill containing the American Families bill moving forward on a two track system. He went on to say these are two critical priorities to the president he wants to see advanced as quickly as possible. And be presented to him for signing as quickly as possible. The white house readout didnt say in tandem but thats what President Biden said and theyre not walking back that. We loent have any legislative text for either of these priorities yet but things are in motion. Its a real unity test for both the white house to keep democrats on board and keep republicans as part of the Bipartisan Group engaged in the process, lindsay. This was supposed to be the easy legislation, what both sides agree that America Needs kchlt you imagine how theyre going to get anything else passed after this . Amanda golden, thank you. Temperatures are expected to reach the triple digits in seattle and portland, the National Weather service issuing warnings in six states, calling it not a heat wave but a heat dome. Nbc news correspondent gaud venegas is in portland. Reporter like you mentioned its going to be very dangerous for a large part of the northwest, the Pacific Northwest. Now, a lot of the people here arent used to these temperatures so you get an idea, normally during the month of june people here in portland are used to temperatures in the mid70s. Yesterday we already got into the mid90s and over the weekend the forecast says we might see temperatures breaking 110 degrees, two of the cities preparing for the worst are, of course, portland and seattle. Also cities where a significant part of the population doesnt have airconditioning because its just not necessary in this part of the country most of the time and then you also have the Homeless Population just in portland they estimate about 15,000 People Living on the streets. Local officials here and in the rest of the states doing what they can to prepare for this heat wave that as i mentioned could reach 110 degrees or more over the weekend, and as we saw on the map this stretches all the way from Northern California to the canadian border, and it goes inland, painly hitting idaho, washington and oregon. My term ended as of june 30th, and certainly ive had the honor and privilege of serving on the board for many years there. It is at the obviously the pressure of the grassroots base amongst many counties that folks like myself who are willing to not entertain the lies, especially the big lie that somehow the election was stolen that were being purged because were deemed disloyal to accusations that somehow we have bad actors throughout the system that handed joe biden a victory. Give me your reaction when you first learned of the lawsuit now. Yeah. Well, i think theres a number of implications here. First thing is theres the legal implications and then the set of Practical Implications as well as when you get down to it, the political implications. I think from the legal standpoint this certainly is not the first of any lawsuit, but it comes on the heels of many lawsuits that other groups have filed against the state. So this will likely throw it over to the judicial branch. From the political side, i think both parties stand to win. Why . Because if youre a Candidate Running for office of either party you could say you succeeded in fighting back against federal overreach and on the other side you say the government now will spend resources in order to help voter access. But i think at the practical level certainly it will drain both sides of Financial Resources. I know the premise of this is at the National Level congress and the Biden Administration were not able to enact new legislation, especially after the Supreme Court ruling about seven or eight years back that basically had an impact on the original Voting Rights act. It helped to weaken some of the provisions in there that allowed for the federal government to monitor and preclear any changes that states want to enact. Georgia is not the only state thats dealing with these issues. Arizona, the house just passed legislation that weakens the Secretary Of State by weakening her ability to defend lawsuits. We know the controversial audit going on there. That will wrap up this weekend. Do you think this is just step one and the doj will end up suing more states . Thats likely the case. Frankly what my concern has been all along is the fact that we have new systems in place now. Many of the county departments of elections for many years had not received adequate budgets and Financial Resources in order to basically modernize their systems. So of the past years you had extremely, you know, tight budgets that these counties board of elections and department of Voter Registrations to deal with. But the legislation itself, especially in georgia, it helped to neuter the Secretary Of State and it can create a future quagmire. That quagmire is if you place an undue burden on some of the counties, the biggest four counties i have like ten seconds for that. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. So these four counties will face undue burdens of having to enact more policies in order to meet the needs. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. Thank you. Coming up next, well return to surfside, florida. Were looking at brandnew Aerial Footages right now here.
