There is more to talk about. The voters of america deserve to hear the conversations that i think we should be having on substance, on issues, on policies, what is your plan, what is my plan, and we can have another one before election day. It is showing that there is a lot of support for our message and what we need to do in terms of moving forward and charting a new way forward and dispensing with all of the attempts to divide our country and to just, really, just, the problem that i think on the other side is there is a devaluation of who The American people are. Harris making a case for her campaign clearly game for the debate. They also think this whole conversation to start the week is good politics, emphasizing trump is running from a showdown even if they dont think they can get the showdown to happen. I can tell you that a, democrats are posting Videos Trump as a chicken, billboards to have the same multiry poultry attack. This is the first october that we will have no president ial debate in a general election since all of the way back to 72 when nixon refused to debate. There is an October Debate every cycle since then, including when trump faced biden twice. Nixon did not want to debate because of the view that he lost that famous 1960 debate to jfk and then lost a close election. Trump is following that kind of logic today. That he thinks he has more to lose by debating harris again. This is one of those story that is about politics tonight. Debate can impact a vote t. Is about precedent. The Trump Era killed off many precedents that were once thought unbreakable. Remember, it was just this year that the Biden Campaign booted the long Standing President Ial Commission that sets up all of the debates and the biden folks did that to negotiate their own debate to cnn. The commission refused the earlier Debate Biden wanted. Now, that tradition has been axed. The commission, that i am telling you goes back to the Nixon Era has been dethrone. Harris up in the polls. Remember, a national poll does not reflect what will happen in the election but it shows us something. National election will ultimately be decided by the states in the electoral election. That is why Hillary Clinton lost. Harris is above, it is driving headlines for harris on line. The spread is still within the margin of error. In the states that matter as we showed you last week things are a statistical tie. What polls can help us reveal is a big shift in sentiment. Especially when it is current. Instead of asking just how people might vote in the future in five or six weeks if they vote early you can measure how the nation feels right now. And that is where there is really good news for harris. There is a huge unusually large jump in favorable views of harris since she became the nominee. So, the poll is asking how do you feel today . A lot more people are feeling good about her. In fact, the largest such increase in decades as they reported on the new meet the press. This is the largest increase that we have seen for any politician since george w. Bush in the wake of the September 11 attacks on this issue . Yes. Absolutely, we were seeing numbers like this for years for kamala harris. Many more americans, right now, have a more favorable view of harris. They know how remarkable of a shift that is going back in the surge for approval for bush in the historic demonstration of unity after the September 11 attacks. That is when Bushs Favorability surged partly because people felt favorably towards him and his response and partly because of a Documentary Rally around the flag effect. Historians and polesters note it is rare for the public to suddenly just like a prominent Politician Way more than they used to. Because they already know that person and views tend to be more base camp. The 2001 example reflects that in the response. With all of that in mind and what was just said there, here are the numbers. 32 favorability in july. That is the blue curve of where she was, her role of vp. 1 out of 3 is not a great benchmark for winning an election. 32 or so, 1 out of 3 people think of you favor ably and then you have the jump, a huge jump, 32 to 48 , the largest surge. That is the big news tonight. Harris campaign is happy about it while cautioning People Nothing is set yet. Why is harris rising in ways we have not seen in decades . In my report right now for you i am going to slow you why the answer has layers and why it may explain the race that we are in right now. The current state of the race and where we are headed. First, within the democratic party there was a Shock Wave. Swapping out a president with fading numbers for the new vp. And the party managed to do so, i know you know this, because you follow the news, they did so without any big primary or long jockeying public process. And that has clearly energized and united the party, democrats and antitrump forces who might not be democrats, independents, moderates who were not sold on trump but concerned about biden. The numbers go up for harris as a new alternative. Then, the second layer, may be how people are viewing harris now in a new role. Here is what we can tell you, people like her in this role. Being the nominee and the Party Leader taking on trump is different from being a smaller quieter role of understudy or Vice President to the president. By playing that role well, many experts say harris had to dim her shine. That is literally the term some historians and use in political struggle you never outshine the master. Always make those above you feel completely superior in your desire to impress them do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite. What we had in Joe Biden is someone who wanted to have a debate based on facts, based on truth, and in Donald Trump we had what we come to expect. Push lies and distract from the reality of the damage that he has created and continues to create in our country. What Donald Trump is doing is grasping for straws. Now, she is surging with more power than Anyone Else in the party including in the political sense, the president who she served until she came into this view. Especially as a member of the united states intelligence, senate intelligence committee. Then as almost four years as Vice President of the united states. Access to all of the classified information, the meetings, one Heart Boat away from President Biden, my friend and she has had the opportunity to see what is necessary for the united states to continue to be a leader of the free world. I have every confidence she has the capability and the character that is fundamental to the united states. The president of the united states is americas face to the world. And they have to have confidence and that president s character in terms of ethical behavior. Commitment to Rule Of Law. Reverend for our allies and what they contribute to us and the peaceful transfer of power. She has all of those commitments and characters that would make her a good president. How do you help those kids. I said to my wife, oh, that is what our Tax Dollars help with. We dont need to do much. I am working with my wife on that challenge but i also wanted to prove to myself a little bit, maybe i was right. So i tried to go and really find out who paid taxes, what do we spend them on and how much wealth gets transferred in the system and it led me to a Brooder Issue of really trying to understand our government in its entirety. Where does the money come from, where does it get spent on and what are the outcomes. I got fired up about that from my own. Really hard to do on the internet, i found when i started this project 2014, 2016. You did not find the internet super fact friendly . It was not that it was not fact friendly but it was not put together in a way that you could have a simple, clear view. You could do what politicians do. I will take this, this one and this one, no context, you know, not the kind of thing that i had come to expect from other companies or our own company in business. You know, for shareholders the fcc makes sure you lay out your business, tell everybody all that is going on, no, you know, blah, blah, blah, no embellishment, i wanted that about our government, hard to find. I set out on this journey and i thought maybe there would be other people interested in this stuff, too. It may resinate with people, too. That off the bat is a problem if theyre looking at random material thats not news and misinformationing it as news. Googles Youtube Algorithm has ben shown to often reward what is exciting or controversial well above its sort of truth rating. How do you deal with that . Lets separate what you said into two pieces. The algorithm and who gets to publish and what they get to say. I get my news largely from Social Media, personally. How do you mean Social Media . X. Who On X . I follow msnbc, i follow the ft, the new york times, the wall street journal. And i get, what i think i get On X is what they think are their most important stuff. Im using it as a clipping service, if you will, on public media. Do i follow people who are important in World Events . Sure. I want to know straight from the source what Vice President harris is saying. Or what former President Trump is saying. That is in a way its fact, its what they say. Now, are there random people out there who also get thrown into my feed as i switch to algorithms . Sure. Do i take those with a Grain Of Salt . Sure. I own a basketball team. Do i follow a Lot Of Sports Bloggers . Sure. Is 90 of what they speculate on going to happen incorrect . Sure, thats right. But i know its right. So i dont get all worked up about it.
