PORTSMOUTH — Being surrounded by books and libraries throughout her life is a luxury Portsmouth High School junior Eve Hurley said she has taken for granted.
So when a schoolmate joined her Peer Leadership group this year and suggested a book collection and fundraiser to help build a library for a community in need, Hurley and other club members jumped at the chance.
Since the winter, PHS’ Peer Leadership club has collected over 1,000 books to build a library in Malawi as part of the African Library Project, a grassroots group dedicated to building libraries throughout Africa.
"During the pandemic, I thought it was an amazing opportunity to show that we're still interested in sharing our resources and helping people who haven't always grown up wit the plethora of resources that we've had," Hurley said.
