April 15
A San Antonio Park Police officer is credited with stopping a potential mass shooting at the San Antonio International Airport. According to police, a man, later identified as 49-year-old Joe Gomez, was driving the wrong way on the lower level terminal and was stopped by Park police officer John Maines. Gomez then got out of his vehicle and began shooting at bystanders and the officer, police said. Maines returned fire, hitting Gomez twice. Police initially said that Gomez was killed by Maines, but the Bexar County Medical Examiner's office said Gomez died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
