Student convicted of terror offence spent too long on the internet, judge says
Gabrielle Friel was convicted of possessing weapons but cleared of plotting an Incel inspired terrorist killing spree
Gabrielle Friel was jailed for ten years
An internet obsessed student who stockpiled an arsenal of terrorist weapons has been jailed for ten years after a judge said spending all day online was extremely damaging for him.
Gabrielle Friel was found with a crossbow, a machete and ballistic vest when he was arrested at his home in Edinburgh in 2019.
His trial heard there was "reasonable suspicion that possessing them was for a purpose connected with terrorism”, but he was cleared of a second charge of plotting a killing spree inspired by the Ivoluntary Celibate or Incel movement.
