Texas Legislature OK’s near-complete ban on abortions, sends bill to Gov. Abbott

AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott is poised to sign a bill into law that would ban abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy and allow any private citizen to sue abortion providers who violate the restriction.
The Senate gave the measure final approval Thursday, sending it to Abbott, who has said he “can’t wait to sign” the legislation.
“There’s nothing more important we do here than protecting innocent human life,” said Mineola Republican Sen. Bryan Hughes, who authored the bill.
