As you were reporting yesterday, netanyahu has tacked to the right in a bid to win this tough fight. Reporter indeed, his tack to the right was saying if he were elected he would bring all israeli settlements in the west bank under israeli sovereignty, a very controversial thing and a massive sort of policy declaration to be making a couple of days out from an election, and a lot of people saw it that way, ads an electio ploy, a strategy to try to draw more votes from smaller right wing parties and get people to vote for his party. The reason for that, the way the israeli elections work, theres two main parties here, blue and white, benny gantz, the former chief of staff of the military here, and of course Benjamin Netanyahu and his party. They are the two main parties, whoever gets the most votes, head to head, generally speaking, is going to be the one that is asked to try to form a coalition, and when it comes to Benjamin Netanyahu he seems toch the edge to have the edge in terms of other parties. This is a vibrant democracy if you like. Theres more than 40 parties running but there is a threshold. Anywhere from 10 to 14 parties will reach the threshold, and theyre the parties from which the Coalition Horse trading will begin. Well know at about 10 00 p. M. Local time. Its just after 11 00 p. The deadline to file your taxes is a week away, and this may be a surprise to many, the first year under the new tax law refunds are smaller. New figures from the treasury show the irs issued about 6 billion less in refunds this year with refunds down an average of just about 20. Heres whats going on, the tax code lowered most individual tax rates and doubled the standard deduction. According to the tax policy center, 80 of filers got a tax cut. About 5 will pay a little bit more. Why the smaller tax refund, for many its because the workers took home more in their paychecks throughout the year because employers began using the income tax withholding tables. In other words, you paid less in taxes but you still got a smaller refund. Other taxpayers will pay more because the tax code gutted popular dedukctions. That will hurt taxpayers in high tax states. The security issue has been muted if you like when it comes to whos going to be the toughest guy running the country. In terms of who has the edge, neck and neck in the poll, but its about Coalition Building in the israeli elections.
