For them, theyre saying the areas covered in this agreement is the active combat zone right now. And another complicating factor in all of this is we have not heard from, at least publicly the other key players here, the Syrian Regime and russians. You have a fragile ceasefire agreement at this point. What happens in the next five days is going to be critical. And what happens after those five days, is this going to move into the next phase of a permanent ceasefire, where turkey says it will stop its offensive if the Kurdish Forces move out. But turkey is putting this out here, framing this as a great victory, militarily and also politically. Turkish Officials Saying they got all they wanted out of the meetings yesterday, with the u. S. Delegation. Theyre saying that the military offensive achieved its goals. What they mean by that, is for months, theyve been negotiating with the United States, trying to get the u. S. Administration, the pentagon, to agree to this safe zone, this buffer zone, that turkey is trying to establish. And the talks were really rocky. They didnt really agree on everything when it came to that safe zone. At least now, they feel that they have in principle, really, in writing, this commitment from the United States. The question is, how is this going to translate on the ground . We heard from the Syrian Kurdish fighters from the Top Commander there, saying they were part of the negotiations with the United States. They agreed to the ceasefire. But theres no mention of them withdrawing. And then, theres the question of what areas are actually covered. So, its a very vaguelyworded agreement. And another complicating factor in all of this is, at least publicly we dont know if all of the key players are involved in this agreement. In this case, we mean the russians and the Syrian Regime. As weve seen in recent days, of course, the russians, right now, are the major player, the key player in all of this. And they get to call the shots on the ground. And that is why president erdogan is headed, at the end of this fiveday pause in fighting, hes headed to russia, where he will be meeting with the russian president , vladimir putin.
