Lori rothman has Market Movers from the floor in the nyse. First to the cme and trader Scott Shellady. Many analysts blaming the drop in oil prices for the market loss, scott. Weve seen other days with 3 oil drop that didnt lead to 250 point drop in the dow. So what else, what else is going on besides oil . Well, i think the underlying problem here is the fact that weve got equity prices overstretched because of free money. I have said before, you know, we dont have Interest Rate problem here in the u. S. But the fed has an Interest Rate problem, right this they have pushed us out the risk curve looking for yield. That is the big problem. No, we dont have a problem with our Interest Rates as a country but the fed has to find a way town wind this thats why this little hiccup here sent things tumbling down. Bearish news in oil sent us lower didnt help things. But it is still the fed with Interest Rate problem, not the economy. David almost an impossible problem. Scott, you will join us a little later. Lori what is the mood heading into tomorrows trading . Great point. So much conjecture about Interest Rates, the fed problem with Interest Rates, the stock market was reacting to what the bond market was doing today. Benchmark reeled hit 1. 75 today. It immediately backed up to 1. 73. When we got to the 1. 75 level all bets were off and selling of equities started getting going. Significant move in yields today. Lets look at the vix. 1 plus moves for the last three trading sessions shows all kinds of volatility going on. This is the highest close really since back in june, late june, for the volatility index. Basically youve got some is lows on s p. Grocery stores weakness. Targets cut there. First solar, jpmorgan, basically putting a market underperform rating on fslr, to 32 a share price target. Did have winners and lending club. Six flags, price target, 67 a buy rating today. So you know it is a lot of calm before the storm, before the next fed meeting. A lost conjecture about which way rates are going. Looks like rates moving out after september. David could be another story. Lori, thank you very much. Melissa. Melissa lets bring Scott Shellady in with todays market panel. Eric gibbs, and Oliver Portia from grader man brothers. Thanks for joining us. Scott, reaction what is going on in oil, biggest demand is amid wobbly asian demand. Are we talking about even more of a slow down around the world . Well, yeah. You can tell that from the bond prices number one. Iea came out with the monthly report last night saying demand will slow into 2017. That wasnt going to help either. Pile on the fact that equities going lower at same time it wasnt really going to set up to be a very good day. I will say this again, what were talking about here, i must be rumpelstiltskin there is not any good reason to raise Interest Rates, is there . Cant tell me what part of the economy right now is on fire. We would like to see things normalized. Were not normal environment because the fed is in our back pocket for a long time. Were in trouble. Fed is in trouble. They have to unwind the Interest Rate policy that is going to cause problems for next six months Going Forward at least. Right. Erin, it is worrisome when you see a decline in the price of oil. It is not just a glut. It is about a slowdown. That is a lot of spillover into the rest of the worlds other economies. Like scott said, the fed doesnt have anywhere to go. They havent raised rates before. If things get worse and they havent raised rates they have nothing they can do in response. I would keep the oil an oil prices separate. That is more a question of supply but when it comes to the fed rates, look a lot of people are not expecting a raise in september. Were looking for that more no november, when we see more after stronger economy coming through. I think would be a little early if it happens in september. Were seeing where the bets are. And yeah, they are going to, there is strength but its slow. It will happen slowly, why the fed is slow to raise rates. Melissa oliver, were talking about why stocks are sinking on the back of oil, why the response is meaningful. What do you think about the selloff in response to oil . Is it about everything slowlying down in the world . I agree with erin, it is more complicated when it comes to oil but this was driven by a further slow down in demand. What we have to understand, demographics are to the on our side you will continue to have slow growth around the globe. That is a reality we have to live with. Secondly comes to Interest Rates and nervousness created over the last week, reality if the fed were to raise in september, then again in november and then again in december, you would still have very, very low Interest Rates. They will not be a big impediment to the economy. It is about corporate earnings and growth. Both of those are unfortunately relatively subdued right now. That is what needs to turn a corner for equities to go meaningfully higher. David there is one bright spot in the down market. After pell shares announcing that the tmobile announcing iphone 7 preorders hit alltime high for i phones. Sprint says preorders for the newest iphone is four times higher than last year. But a potential glitch today. Apple users reporting problems installing its new software although apple says the issue has been resolved. Oliver, there is couple other things i would add to positives on apple. Samsungs fire problems, that is direct competitor to the iphone. If your competitor is doing badly sometimes that is good for you. Also great review in the wall street journal today of the iphone 7 after all the humming and hoing about the new product and people are taking a second look to and really like it. I would add low expectations going into the product launch. There were very low expectations. Things went well. I dont think theyre as gangbuster they really should be are could be but compared to expectations theyre doing very well. What to me was most surprising is, a lack of revolt against the blue tooth headphones and getting rid of headphone jack which i expect a lot more push back. That is surprising to me. David erin, we head into very Uncertain Times with regard to markets. Many some day there will be a rate rise an when that happens the market will probably tank again. Is apple one of those mainstays that could take us through the bad times . Yes. We have had apple in our portfolio and have had it for quite some time and we believe it is one of the long term core holdings. It is trading cheaply. 13 times for war earnings versus 18 than the s p 500 and has much higher than expected growth. New orders of the iphone 7 are reiterating our belief. David so you think it is cheap now . Oh, yeah. I think it is cheap even with the raise weve seen. Looking at what the target consensus price is, there is still another 14 upside just from wall street estimates. David scott, i know how you feel about stocks that there is a bubble going on here but is apple one of the exceptions to that . Well how about this . Youre going to get it at better price but not maybe as good as others out there. That tech sector has been good for us. Ultimately what the bonds told us you will get the stuff at better price. Were not worried, equities are not worried about Interest Rate hike. Equities are worried how we come to the decision to get Interest Rate hike that is the key. More psychological. I agree with other panelists, quarter, 3 4 is not the deal. But psychological problem is the big deal here and the quandary they put us americans in. Melissa 61 of voters believe that the biggest threat to our domestic economy is the result of the president ial election. That is followed by terrorism and rising Interest Rates coming in last at just 5 . This is according to new survey from bankrate. Com. Oliver, i dont know, im not sure i can, i mean, the election, the reason why the election would have impact to me on the markets is because it would determine whether that candidate would raise rates. So to have that as last and have the election as first, i dont know what do you think . Whats your take . I think elections are very polarizing. They always have been. Certainly more so today than ever before. You have two candidates incredibly unpopular but it is about much more than a president ial election. It is about congress as well and what policies will come out of there. To me the thing im listening for whoever gets elected as president , will they renominate janet yellen as fed chair or a different fed chair . Will that bring in new monetary policies. Because fiscal policies are no conversation right now at all. They need to start happening but theyre not. So it is going to be about monetary policy. That is the part about the election that worries me. Melissa i guess. For other people, erin, Hillary Clinton cuts both ways. On one hand she is really, you know, in the pocket of wall street. They have given her a lot of money. They feel like they know what she is going to do you but at the same time she is talking about raising taxes, raising corporate taxes, personal taxes, increasing legislation. That is tough for corporations. Which side of the threat do you see with her . You know i think there are definitely weaknesses in Different Industries for each candidate. So i, i would say it is actually pretty net net neutral for whatr candidate wins. When you read the questions and over the phone the wording was a little biased. If you look what the u. S. Consumer is thinking, look at the Consumer Sentiment index. It is at almost a 10year high. One. Highest levels in august. Were looking at great retail sales. So i think, the biggest worry out of a very happy overall u. S. Consumer. So it is melissa really . I dont know. Those arent any of people we generally talk to. That is interesting take. Very unusual. Well leave it there. Thanks, guys. David. David it was a brutal for for wells fargo. Shares of financial giant has been accused creating accounts, creating accounts for customers without even telling them. Now whether the question is going on at other banks as well. Adam shapiro standing by in the newsroom with the latest. This is infuriating, adam. Reporter infuriating and illegal by the way. Federal regulates say it is absolute illegal practice. Imagine how consumers would feel when they hear one of the nations largest banks is committing fraud, at least employees at banks committing fraud. Could other banks be doing the same . According to head of Consumer Financial protection bureau, richard cordray, he says there is no evidence that other banks are committing such act, this is the key, on systemic basis. Fox business reached out to three banks, bank of america, citi and Jpmorgan Chase to see if they had a quota system or sales incentives in place just like wells fargo for employees that deal with customer accounts. Bank of america and jpmorgan both declined to comment. Citi, please pick up the phone, citi. They wont even respond to the inquiry. They wont say no comment. They havent responded. As for wells fargo theyre dealing with public outrage with former executive saw division at the center of the scandal. Her name is kerihotolstedt. The bank you knew what was goingson and was firing people. She remained in charge, earned 125 million if stock and stock options. Wells fargo has ability to claw back executive compensation if the bank chooses. Wells fargo spokesperson would not comment if that could happen to tolstedt Senate Banking committee confirmed to fox business it is being briefed on the yesterdays setment. They could not tell us if carrie was. If they knew about this in 2011, what did they do if anything, to stop it. Stay tuned . David not much apparently. Adam shapiro, thank you. Melissa. Melissa iran threatening to shoot down u. S. Navy planes. The troubling admission coming from the u. S. State department moments ago. David wow. Congress demanding answers from the people responsible for setting up Hillary Clintons email server, the private one and wiping it all clean. One big problem. Most of the witnesses werent talking. One of the key witnesses defied congress and didnt show you up. What happens now . Melissa interesting. Donald trump seizing on this opportunity to slam clinton ahead of the big policy announcement tonight. Have you seen what is going on in front of congress . Fifth amendment, fifth amendment, fifth amendment. Anyone watching todays hearing in Congress Knows that Hillary Clintons actions are far more corrupt than we ever imagined. I have asthma. One of many pieces in my life. So when my asthma symptoms kept coming back on my longterm control medicine. I talked to my doctor and found a missing piece in my asthma treatment with breo. Oncedaily breo prevents asthma symptoms. Breo is for adults with asthma not well controlled on a longterm asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. Breo wont replace a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems. Breo opens up airways to help improve breathing for a full 24 hours. Breo contains a type of medicine that increases the risk of death from asthma problems and may increase the risk of hospitalization in children and adolescents. Breo is not for people whose asthma is well controlled on a longterm asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. Once your asthma is well controlled, your doctor will decide if you can stop breo and prescribe a different asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. Do not take breo more than prescribed. See your doctor if your asthma does not improve or gets worse. Ask your doctor if 24hour breo could be a missing piece for you. Com business Melissa Donald trump planning to formally unveil his child care plan tonight with his daughter ivanka. Some of his proposals include, Tax Deductions for working parents, the same deductions for athome parents, incentives for employers to provide child care and guaranteed maternitity leave. Is a breen. Schaefer, and julianne marsh. So breen that schaefer. Let me start with you, the first criticism is how are you going to pay for it. Do you think he addresses that at all . They talk about it being tax neutral, revenue neutral, one of those things you tough to quantify ahead of time, you say the economy will grow as a result or more people working. What do you think about that in this case . Devil is always in the details. I think this is a step in the right direction. I think the Republican Party iss really bipartisan issue to democrats. I think donald trump started to open up the conversation. I think there is some good and some not so good in this plan. I like the idea of giving individual families more control over their own resources so they can make decisions that suit their families needs, whether its a day care at facility or family friend or stay at home parent. All of this is good. We dont want to bias peoples decisions based on public policy. I think its a step in the right direction. Melissa mary ann, tries to get you over hurdle, looking going to work. I will make this i will pay this taxes. Im really only mick making this and paying someone to look after my child. So your salary has to be so high in order to pay to go back to work. Is it interesting that republicans are addressing this . Well, they have to. Let me explain why in this election with donald trump right now. Historically suburban women, especially collegeeducated white woman have voted for republicans all along. Melissa right. Donald trump does not have them right now. That is why he is going to the philadelphia suburbs tonight with his daughter ivanka trump to talk about day care. He needs to win them back. If he doesnt, he has no shot winning the white house. That is why president obama was in philadelphia today. Not just about pennsylvania. It is about this demographic. So i think republicans know they have to do this they dont have a choice but to do this they have not explained how they are going to pay for it except for the fact donald trump says he will find fraud but that fraud alone wont pay for this program versus Hillary Clinton, who is giving 12 weeks versus Donald Trumps six weeks. She is capping it at 10 . Doesnt say how she will pay either. She has, actually in fairness. Melissa one of those things nobody ever likes to talk about. Hang on one second. Melissa sabrina, let me ask you, it is interesting, puts a lot of value on working parents. Right. Melissa do you potentially alienate women who have chosen to stay home to see that as value . Here you have the republican on the right saying we want to make it easier for women to get out of the house and go to work . I think that is why the Trump Campaign said this Tax Deduction could be applied to parents who stay at home or to relative who maybe caring for the family so youre not biasing family with two parent workers rather than just one. But at same time, to keep in mind, this is where donald trump will really need to think about his messaging antone. I was just at the Pew Research Center today. Important statistic is one, only 23 of working mothers would choose to work fulltime if they had that choice. I think it is really important that republicans keep that in mind when theyre thinking about this suite of work place policies. A lot of women, this is not intellectual issue. They have bills to pay. That is something very important for washington to remember. Melissa thanks to both of you. Mary ann will be back. You will get more. David well start with you, mary ann, next time. New scrutiny over Hillary Clintons email server on capitol hill. Two witnesses refused to answer lawmakers questions. One didnt even show up. Ambassador James Woolsey is here to react next. Employees who managed her personal email server facing questions from the House Oversight and government reform committee. This is the first time the committee is hearing from the people who set up that server and deleted thousands of records. Catherine herridge is standing by on capitol hill with the details from that hearing. Wow, people werent very cooperative today, catherine . Reporter to say the least. The committee served subpoenas on four witnesses, three turned up and two refused to answer questions. Did you produce your immunity agreement this morning as required under the subpoena . On advice of counsel i respectfully decline to answer and assert my fifth amendment privilege. You cant answer the question about whether or not you were interviewed by the fbi . On the advice of counsel i respectfully decline. Reporter combetta and thornton took the fifth 10 times in the hearing worked for coloradobased platte river networks. They managed the Hillary Clinton server and deleted her email archive in 2013 despite a preservation order. Combetta got immunity deal in the fbi probe in email practice and same deal that i. T. Staffer Bryan Pagliano got as well. Pagliano was a knowshow at todays hearing. When you are served a subpoena by the United States congress that is not optional. That is not a optional activity and he is not here today. Reporter the panel heard from justin cooper. He is long time aide for bill clinton. He is the one according to the fbi file that he destroyed two of Hillary Clintons blackberries. Did you have a security clearance at that time . No, i did not have a security clearance. After you left the white house early in, when did you leave the white house . 2001. 2001. Did you ever have a security clearance at any level after that . No, i did not have a security clearance. Reporter for context under normal circumstances when you have classified material and you have a party who doesnt have a Adequate Security clearance to have access to that material, both parties would face some kind of a criminal prosecution and just to follow up, cooper did tell the committee, that when he destroyed that blackberry he was not intentionally destroying records. He was just trying to destroy the equipment so it wouldnt fall into the wrong hands. If that is how won would do that. If you know what i mean. Melissa i mean, if you dont show up, if youre subpoenaed by congress and dont show up what is the penalty, catherine . Reporter i have to look into that. The lawyers on the Government Oversight Committee said they were considering their options. One option might be contempt of congress. It does doesnt happen very much. Most people, when they get a subpoena they show up and then they take the fifth. Today they felt, at least in my read of the situation that pagliano and his team decided that they would take a stand and that he would not show up and essentially be humiliated in front of the panel. Those who watched the hearing. Melissa yeah. Absolutely. Keep us posted on that one, catherine. Reporter i will. Melissa we appreciate it. David here to weigh in James Woolsey, new Senior Advisor to the Trump Campaign and cia director of course. Ambassador woolsey, hillary says in all this stuff she never endangered National Security. You have seen some of emails on the private server when they have come out. Are they harmless . Zoo absolutely not. One would have to go through them particularly the ones that were turned lose in one way or another and take them sentence by sentence in order to put together what kind of harm may occur. You can look at some on the web. When you have a secret conversation between two senior officials of a Foreign Government and one is reporting on the other, but the one who is being reported on doesnt know that the information is going to the cia, that can produce situations where people want to kill someone or take other radical steps. David when i look at the intel that has been released, it is one thing. I have my own impression about it but you really know what is dangerous and what puts National Security at risk. Now she continues to say that trump is a dangerous person. Theres a lot of people that agree with her assessment of donald trump, that he would be dangerous to this country. But, havent we already seen enough of how she has endangered at least our secrets, our National Secrets to suggest she could be more dangerous than trump . I dont see how she could be characterized on this evidence as anything other than extremely dangerous. She did not protect the security of her department, the department of state. She was in charge of security. All cabinet officials really are for their own department. And, it, she didnt do her job. And she did worse than not do her job. She handled things in such a way with those extra servers, et cetera, that good deal of material went out and was available to hackers like russians and chinese hackers, and others. It was really very dangerous and very badly done. David former director of the cia, James Woolsey, thank you very much, sir. Appreciate you being here. Melissa. Melissa wild ride for the markets. President obama is hitting the campaign trail for her and pushing her platform. Jennifer griffin is live in chappaqua, new york, with the latest details surrounding the campaign. What do you have for us tonight, jennifer . Reporter well, melissa, no one has seen Hillary Clinton today. The press is being kept about half a mile away from the home but what i can tell you is there has been a steady stream of flower delivers to the house here in chappaqua. Her husband bill clinton is on route to los angeles where he will stand in at two fundraisers in los angeles. Then he will give a speech she was supposed to give tomorrow in las vegas. She did phone in, however, to a San Francisco fundraiser and heres what she did when she called into a cable news show last night. I probably would have been better off if i had just pulled down my schedule on friday but, like a lot of people i just thought i could keep Going Forward and power threw it. Obviously that didnt work out so well. Reporter as of right now, the next event on her schedule is thursday, a gala for the National Hispanic caucus in washington, d. C. She is expected to speak there. And then on friday she is supposed to attend a luncheon in washington, d. C. It is not clear whether they will clear that from her schedule but as of right now we expect that the earliest we would see her would be on thursday. Her doctor, dr. Lisa bardok says she needs five days of rest on antibiotics to recover from the pneumonia, melissa. Melissa meantime as we mentioned from the beginning president obama was out on the trail for her today, right . Reporter right. He was in chillphiladelphia, the campaignerinchief received a warm welcome in philadelphia. Pennsylvania is very important state. He cleared the schedule for the month of october and will be campaigning for her. We expect to see more from the obamas, and bidens and others, chelsea on the campaign trail while she recovers. Melissa no doubt. Thank you for that report. David. David following Hillary Clintons health scare hearing that she has pneumonia. She is touting her campaign transparency. We will add more information. I thought we released information about my health in this campaign as well as 40 years of tax returns. We have already met a High Standard of transparency. David marianne marsh is back and a ri a. N caldwell, a republican strategist. I will start with you as i promised. Was hiding diagnosis of pneumonia for 48 hours transparency. Every campaign is loathe to admit their candidate isnt feeling well. When you add to that the fact that the Trump Campaign and all of his supporters david well talk about the Trump Campaign. If it was just the one thing, okay. An excuse. But then you have email stuff. Destroying, going through all of this incredible business in order to destroy all these emails which she said didnt have any secrets. Turns out some of them did. Come on, she is saying that she is the most Transparent Campaign around when in fact there is a lot she has been hiding . To finish my thought there, one more reason why they were loathe to disclose it is because donald trump and many of his supporters have been making allegations about her health. So everybody doubled down. Totally understandable under those circumstances. I will put and. David were talking, let me give giano a chance. Sure. David the point is hillary has serious transparency problems. No question. David i think most people would admit that on many bases, so does donald trump in at least one area, that is his tax forms. What is he hiding in his tax forms . Why does he not to release them. Moving on to Clinton David marianne talks about clinton you talk about trump. Very good. He said he will release his taxes when audit is complete, by advice of counsel they suggested that is what he should do. David you do not, honestly, you dont think there is anything that he would like to keep from the general public . If theyre saying that by advice of counsel, im not an attorney, i dont pretend to be one on television either david that is why i didnt ask you a legal question. I asked what you thought. Hold on a second. That is why i asked what you think. Absolutely. David do you think there is anything in the tax form that donald wants to prevent the public from seeing . I have no reason to believe so. David okay. All right. Marianne, you both had a shot on that. I got to ask you whether there is any talk, because, pneumonia is a serious illness. Is think any talk in the dnc as we heard of contingency plans, just in case she gets so sick or Something Else happens that she has to drop out . Are there contingency plans being drawn up now. One quick comment, donald trump could release irs letter saying he is under audit. He could do that. David on to the dnc. Hillary clinton is the nominee. Period, end of sentence. There has been no discussions or no meetings. Not from my sources. David any rumor to the contrary is dead wrong, marianne. Correct. David go ahead. I have sources highly placed in democratic circles that said this is talked about. Currently. I talked to the dnc today. If there were something to happen, then who would it be, what would the process be . I think that is important question. Especially fact that Hillary Clinton has concealed she david we dont have time. We have to jump. There are always we have plans in the United States in the pentagon to invade canada just in is can. There are always contingency plans. Of course. Theyre not going to be david melissa. Melissa most wonderful time of the year, you know what im talking about. The passes cost 100 each, grant diners unlimited pasta bowl, soft drink, salad, whatever you want. Go on sale 2 00 p. M. Is this an ad . Are we being paid by olive garden . No, im a fanatic. David even if youre not crazy about olive garden, 100 bucks, seven nights, a whole week. 14 bucks a meal. Melissa people are talking about it on social media. David we dont get paid off by them. Fox newss james rosen pushing the agency to reveal that the nuclear deal may be making irans behavior worse. Listen. As much as we would like to see irans behavior change in the region, weve not seen a significant shift. But you cant rule out that in fact this deal has served as a cause for this more aggressive posture . I mean i cant rule that out. Melissa okay, that is Pretty Amazing to me. Here is chris harmer, institute for the study of war, senior naval analyst. It is amazing, it is logical theyre behaving worse at this point because it seems like we caved. But if you talk to anyone on the left and anyone in washington they say exactly the opposite. Were talking now. That things are better. What is the evidence that you see to the contrary . Well the evidence i see to the contrary is this nuclear deal is so obviously the sina quo none of the u. S. Government position, well do anything to help the nuclear deal including accept behavior of iran that is unacceptable. They used benefit, payoffs, bribes, relief of sanctions, call it what you want, received an avalanche of cash for nefarious purposes. Using it to further perpetuate their sponsor of terrorism. Theyre taking a much more aggressive posture against the u. S. Navy in persian gulf. Beyond dispute, in my opinion beyond dispute that the new deal incentivized that behavior. Melissa talk about that specifically. Iranian military warned two u. S. Aircraft to change course or risk getting shot down. The planes ignored the warning. They kept going. What does this tell you with all the other events that have gone on there . It tells you that the iranian government is willing to engage in extraordinarily, risky, unprofessional behavior because they know the u. S. Post will not respond at you all. U. S. Navy aircraft were in international airspace. We fly the reconnaissance routes, over persian gulf, internation airspace and water space. 3 4ers of countries bordering persian gulf are our allies and want us to fly the flight. Iranians are making threats to shoot down aircraft in international airspace. Were ignoring the threat. The fact they issued the threat is highly provocative. Something the u. S. Navy wouldnt have to deal with. If we act responsibly and push back we would force the iranians to push back their behavior. Melissa the other argument, because of the deal they are further from having Nuclear Weapons. They are complying this what we wanted and making the world a safer place. You say while theyre not overtly enriching uranium, every other aspect of the program is full speed ahead. Can you explain that . Yeah, theyre expanding the Nuclear Ballistic missile capability. Not enough to have nuclear warhead. Tough have some means of delivering it. Buying new aircraft trot russians. Buying missile components from the germans. Continuing own research and development on various series of medium range Ballistic Missiles that have sufficient range to reach israel. They continue to produce rockets by thousands each month and ship those to hezbollah and hamas. There are 70, 80,000 rockets in lebanon with surfacetosurface capability with israel. 10,000 rockets in the gaza strip under control of hamas. 90,000 rockets are aimed at israel. Several hundred, approaching 1000 Ballistic Missiles iranians have aimed at israel. Just a matter of time they develop the Nuclear Weapon and put it on the Ballistic Missile and deliver it. Staggering to me people dont see what is happening. This is not a secret. The founding documents of Islamic Republic of iran call for the destruction of israel. Theyre preparing for it.
