[cheers and applause] trade to you now, even the expect today, it was unexpected because they would quiet down. dagen: what stood out to me was the fact that you had chairs outside of the arena to lock her out. that is something that you heard at the republican convention. that is how a dog in a sanders supporters are and it raises the issue of the polls all over the place. do they vote for hillary clinton because they get great street speech is go and vote for somebody else. >> i would agree with you. we are talking about back to this right now. these are people that show up at conventions. they will be a little bit more and the csa, maybe a little bit wackier. the poet has slowly been shifting towards unification. pew has a recent poll that it's down to 10% a sanders supporters who are going to get behind hillary. maybe 15%, 20%. donald trump wants to make a case to independent voters than disenfranchise voters, especially the white working class. he's got to do a better job because democrats can be on point type they were last night. tried a very strong contrast between what the two parties are offering. >> so far, hillary clinton has been getting a higher percentage of democratic voters than donald trump of republican voters. that's the way to determine party unification is where are the voters. as you point out, if you had to this, you've got to expect that. >> they aren't as enthusiastic as they were decades ago. dagen: there was a bloomberg poll that they found in late june 55% of bernie sanders supporters would vote for her and 22% would vote for donald trump. >> i feel a shift. or maybe i'm just excited. what was your take last night? >> well, i was amazed at how little motherly love there was in the city have it. given the tremendous split between centrists and progressives in the democratic party and given the mass over the debbie wasserman schultz e-mails and letters suggested about how bernie sanders had really bad given the short end of the state. given those two names, the convention was very successful day one or the democrats and that was in part thanks to michelle obama who gave a really masterful speech. it was aimed at you bomb and shoot. this is about our children. she managed to just donald trump without ever mentioning his name, by simply pointing out that issues are complicated. they can't be reduced to 140 carrots yours. she did what she had to do while republicans have to expand their base, democrats just have to fire up fares and she did that. >> yeah, she sure did. this one sound bite we are going to play later. when bernie sanders was talking to his supporters, trying to quiet them down, he got such a long standing ovation. he also said i look forward to the roll call. jessica, you think he was referring to hillary. i assume she was talking about are they going to vote for him tonight with the roll call. but if you make of that? >> i read it differently, but i read it that he wanted -- that it was okay because it was okay that if he called out his name. i was on the fence about how to interpret that. you had a completely different interpretation. >> i did. since bernie sanders went would send other senate democrats, that was the tipping point for head and not so much with hillary or other officials. we are going to lose if we don't come together here. he has been on point for unification here. i don't think he will use this weekend anyway to be the type cruz spoiler on the side of things. >> data roll call vote for the nomination and that doesn't matter what the weather. >> it wasn't an issue, but he was saying out there and look forward to seeing you get behind our candidate. he said i am proud, et cetera. i think michelle obama's speech was earth shattering today. totally the star of the night. as you listen to her and it's image in the white house was built by slaves. when you see how diverse this convention is versus what happened last week, you see the strength of the democratic party. they don't expand the base. you can't win an election any more invites voters. >> matches start the night, the star of the future. dagen: the democrats on the stage. elizabeth warren's speech was at best a flop all in the first lady. she accomplished nothing other than regurgitating democratic talking points in a energy away i must add. these democrats need to remember who they are talking to. they are 13% to 25% of voters undecided. usually the single digits right now. they have to play to the cameras. they have to play for the people at home. we sent out last week. if they forget that, they lose in november. trade to most number of undecideds and independents in decades. judy miller, good to see you. thanks so much. we appreciate it. we will be live from the democratic national convention tonight, we. don't miss our primetime coverage to 96:00 p.m. mr. reindeer breeder for a hat of president bill clinton's speech tonight. coming up, two assailants turned to church while taking the priests and parishioners hostage in france but police say the attackers have been killed. we will bring you the latest after a short rate. adding to his sports partnerships, more on the vice-chairman just coming up to it back in a moment right here. >> the earnings season overall will be fairly disappointing. for year and have come a earnings have been dead in the water. revenues tend to wonder if a a company gets earnings up. it goes to show that the market is going to need a real stimulus in terms of earnings in the latter part of the year. to sustain these levels. we have been dead in the water in terms of earnings. >> stimulus you mean i suppose tax reform as one stimulus. you know you're not talking about federal reserve stimulus. >> last night from elizabeth warned that profits are at an all-time high. >> they have their stuff about two years old, just as bernie sanders like to do about 30 years out of date. sweden has been cutting taxes. sweden has no minimum wage. these people are dealing in clichés of the past, not the current situation. wall street is laying off people right now. maria: i was surprised when elizabeth warren said that last night. i don't know where she got that. earnings are going to be down. it's been tough going for the business community. dagen: shows the disconnect and a holidays in terms of anxiety when they try to brag about obama's economy from the last seven and a half years. steve, to your point, you had an ovation for a man who wants more government, not less government. >> that is the thing that policies have failed and you would never know for what they say about america needed a better future. these guys have been in charge the last seven and a half years and policies have not worked. monetary come with a skull regulatory comedian for disaster. in government, failure means more power. we've got to do more. we've got to do more. it's a vicious circle. that the republicans have to break. >> is a fellow democrat, how do we counter this? it doesn't seem to have a coherent economic plan in a democratic party that diverges from what we've had the last eight years at all. doubling down is not going to satisfy the american voter. i'm trying to figure out how we change and triangulate to meet people where they are. >> or has to be some policy shift. >> widger or tax tax reform? >> absolutely. this is part of what is dangerous about pushing clinton more and more to the left because she's naturally towards the middle. she is a clinton said he would have more sense of policies. but i would say in steve pointed out and taken as pointed out, it is so critical, almost more than policies for democrats to acknowledge that fear americans have about terrorism and the fact that elizabeth warren gestured toward wages that have been in greece that touched paper just to say to people beyond the end, we understand we have not had a full recovery yet. when obama comes out, 14 million plus their jobs, 20 million newly insured. my premium has gone up 20% and i didn't get to keep my doctor. that makes you seem really out of touch. that is what is most critical and to use this to say we are in touch with you because donald trump as saying that. he's at least articulating that. maria: a lot of good points. steve forbes, no mention of cases whatsoever. in terms of the economy, we know that we are at a crawl 2% or lower in terms of economic growth. hillary says she's going to build on the lot of regulations that are to blame for businesses not hiring new workers. >> yes. talking about being out of touch, there is no mention about security, safety, law and order. she is going to be in trouble. people have anxieties. they fill the world is not as safe as it was eight years ago. if they don't address that, they will go down to defeat. the economy is not doing well. around the world is not doing well and so far they've been oblivious trying to appease the sanders people who still think it is 1932. >> or who worry more -- he worries more about climate change to terrorism. climate change is a grave threat to our future than terrorism. that's his method. >> the american people want economic change, not worry about climate change. positive security and so far -- >> at the site or obama who i supported and voted for has his head in the sand on international terrorism. he's in denial. his mocking tone was scary where we see it because i think it reflects what people are feeling, which is a remarkable state of instability in the world. and he came out and he was mocking trump supporters fears by saying i hope that they wiped out the next day and saw the birds were still chirping and the sun was shining. that's not appropriate and not presidential. he pushes people out of the democratic party. maria: dgc also when he was talking about the attack in germany in the middle of this press conference he made a joke about malia going to college. i was really struck by that. steve, what do you think is the most important policy to resonate with folks in terms of moving the needle and economic road. >> i think they want something positive. they are railing against trade which is not a big factor. they've got to come up with some big, whether taxes are spent enough to show there is something that will work for the future. people don't want a third term of what they've had in the last decade. the eight years of obama. they want a clean break. come so far have provided that even though he hasn't provided real details. people want some reaganesque optimism today that the situation is not good. they want something positive as so far they haven't had that yet. cert and not from democrats last night. >> bed at 10 of positivity last night in the republican convention was all doom and gloom. >> no. optimism in reality. the mac is a unique break in again. ronald reagan was optimistic. donald trump is frightening people into voting for him. >> his slogan is make america great again. >> we've gone over this a number of times that that's all well and good. how are you going to do it? he talks in terms of building a wall. he is not building the wall. an anti-free-trade republican which is anti-radical. >> he? substance. do they so clearly how he would address trade and how you address trade as it relates to mexico. he's very specific. maria: what is most important, building the wall is most important. the platform adopted it in the republican platform. >> on platforms, people pay no attention to platforms after the convention. what they want to hear is that the candidate says. not literate on a piece of paper at the convention. maria: he will have to get more specific. steve, good to see you. steve forbes joining us in new york. five for the democratic national convention in philly always. don't miss her primetime coverage as well tonight at 6:00 p.m. eastern direct from the forward ahead of president bill clinton's speech tonight. a household staple of making people sick or general mills expanded if i recall. yet again, the details you need to know next. criticism of trump taken center stage yesterday. speakers at the dnc united behind. back in a minute. base, despite headwinds party pleertdz pushing for unity to support hillary clinton, especially he bernie sanders, giving a renouncing endorsement that did not stop some of the speakers from bashing donald trump. >> we've watched him. try to get at every other people's expense try to incite fear at a time we need to inspire courage, try to rise in the polls, by dragging our national conversation into the gutter. >> what kind of a man roots for an economic crash that costs millions of people jobs homes life savings? well i will tell you what kind of a man. a man who must never be president of but there is something in movement may be it is the -- the free giveaways the rest people talk about, about those, navy tay disturbing thing you get 100 degree heat thinking they are changing the country what a they are trying to do is get more stuff to basically, not realistic. >> you were saying earlier that it was incredible that everybody was standing up, for are a socialist what does it tell you about people in the room looking for. >> delusional they don't understand what socialism is one pol 16% millennials could define what socialism was when polled, to that point do the republicans this week, and trump campaign, need to fight back by saying, this is what your cheering for, this is what the democrats are proposing, obamacare doesn't work they want more of this your -- the entire system in terms of taxation doesn't work, they want higher taxes, is that how they hit back this week. >> i think they very positive saying they did they have to talk about great opportunities, in this country, obviously agree with this is an extraordinary nary country every place else in the work looks to us for example what trump has to do opposed to beating up fellow republicans what have you move beyond that, he base talking about the opportunities how his programs can give people opportunities, to catapult people back to work one thing out of his convention he >> you can't make this stuff up. maria: yeah, it's amazing. >> it really is. i think, i think it's unfortunate. i like congressman wasserman schultz very much, respect her, i think she made the right decision stepping down and i think we're getting beyond it. i mean, really, i think it was in late may when the e-mails came out so the election was already decided, the primary was already decided, but i think people want a fair process and as chairman of the party, i was on the national committee when bob strauss was chairman many years ago and that's the hallmark of a chairmanship. you've got to be unbiased and fair. so i think she made the right decision, but i think the convention will move on. maria: that's exactly it. people, regardless of what side you're on, just want to make sure it's a fair process and nobody's cheating. >> and that's the hallmark of democracy and that's a part of this campaign. maria: so those sanders' supporters last night they were in the room, they were outside. >> they were loud. maria: they were loud and even, sarah silverman, i don't know what did you think about sarah silverman coming out and saying, i support bernie sanders? >> i think that's good and she chastised some of the supporters. maria, the hall was packed and that's sharp contrast of the republican convention and my sense is truly while some of the sanders' supporters were loud, it was a pretty small group. and so, and i also thought senator sanders, i thought did it fine job. i think he hit just the right balance, first half he spoke to his supporters who threw their hearts over the bar and he ran a remarkable campaign, but then he without any equivocation endorsed secretary clinton, a sharp contrast to the residential convention. maria: we were there in cleveland last week and it was extraordinary to see jam packed auditorium last night and it wasn't like that on day one for the republican convention, you're absolutely right. >> you got it. maria: what about the idea that isis was not mentioned? there were 61 speeches last night and not one of them took on national security or isis and terrorism? >> well, it's a three-- it will be a multi-day convention so i think there will be a proper time to talk about national security. clearly secretary clinton has an experience and understanding of international affairs, including terrorism, that's pretty singular in my view and i think the obama administration, despite some of the criticism has been fully engaged on this issue so i think we'll hear it. i do think though, maria, to emphasize the doom and gloom too much, i mean, we've got to be realistic about our problems, but go forward with the country and solve these problems and that's really what's before us, so he i think it will come. maria: it's true, if they're too doom and gloom it's going to sound like trump and they've been criticizing. >> i don't think we run a risk of that, not just doom and gloom, i think that the line of demarcation will be clear. maria: what do you think hillary's policy will be against isis? i mean, look, a lot of criticism around president obama the last couple of years that he hasn't addressed this as effectively that he should have. we should have gotten in front of isis because they're stronger and stronger, and another attack this morning in france, which was horrific, the throat of a priest, it's just disgusting. what do you think that hillary's plan and solutions will be. >> i think secretary clinton and, of course, i know her well, personally and as well as from a political standpoint. she's a team player, as secretary of state, she was part of the obama administration, president obama was the chief executive. it's well-documented and known she'll have a more muscular policy. i think secretary schultz secretary of state, she refers to often, i don't think she'll emulate that or george schultz in every instance, but i think she'll be more muscular, more assertive in terms of how we take on isis. maria: what does that mean? what are you saying? >> well, i think she'll keep all of her options open, but i think she will likely be more open to more aggressive policy, not necessarily troops, i think there's great reservation about that. maria: sure. but much more active intelligence gathering and i think she will be able to rally our allies much better than we maybe-- and i think maybe we've done today, but also the time is more serious now, timing has a lot to do. maria: sure is. >> i think it will be a strength for us, is my point. maria: and our allies, we want to join the fight, but not going to do it while assad is in power, so all of these things will certainly-- >> that's a catch 22. we've got to address this in a much more creative and aggressive manner. maria: mack, thank you for being on the program. mack mclartv. back with our panel. back in a moment. l ♪ wake me up before you go-g go-go, ♪ >> welcome back. day two kicks off from the democratic national convention. let's get final thoughts from our all-star panel. what are you thinking about, jessica. >> thinking about bill clinton and everyone here is good or bad. i think that he's going to pull out all the stops in defense of the democratic party and certainly his wife. it will be interesting to see the standard voters reaction to him because he's the king and enjoys a favorability rating and charming. >> if they're not talking about the jobs, economy and isis, they're losing. i want to hear that. dagen: good luck to the democrats in the next three days making hillary clinton seem trustworthy. 68% don't see her as trustworthy, that's an all-time high. they've got to get those if they want to them to get out to the polls. >> great to see everybody. >> enjoy the convention. maria: the democratic national convention in philly all week. don't miss the special prime time coverage beginning at 6 p.m. eastern. i will see you live from the arena floor. that will do it for us this morning. stay with fox business, "varney & company" begins right now. over to you. stuart: thank you. philadelphia, a chaotic opening to a socialist convention, loud boos at every mention of hillary clinton's name and far left policies that would make america just like europe. that's how it started. good morning, everyone. well, right from the get-go, the democrat convention heard bernie's outrage. the booing from his supporters began during the opening prayer and it rarely went away. it was supposed to be a coronation, but it was an angry crowd, a divided crowd. it came together when bernie sanders and senator elizabeth warren attacked the bankers, the billionaires, and income inequalit
