Police chief jeff odel says the officers were responding to reports of suspicious persons when they came under fire shortly before 9 30 p. M. The chief says his officers responded to the initial call at approximately 9 27. Five minutes later, at 9 32, the first call came in for an officer down. Both officers were transported to the hospital with grave injuries. Officer Matthew Baxter died. Officer sam howard remains in, quote, grave condition. These were beloved fathers and husbands and sons and so we are doing everything in our power to support them, the families and get them through this time. At a press conference chief odell said this and to be a consensual encounter. No handcuffs. Police would have asked if people lived in the area. What they were doing, if it checked out, moved on. The Kissimmee Police department is a smaller one according to the Orlando Sentinel it was 104 officers. Today words of support and calls for prayers from neighboring departments and President Trump as well. He tweeted this morning that he sends his thoughts and prayers to the department. This is the first time a sis is a me Police Officer has been shot and killed on the job in more than 20 years. Guys . Steve all right, ellison barber down in our nations capital. But just this wave where have you six different Police Officers shot in two different states. Its unbelievable. The kissimmee shooting was ambush. When you hear the details about they were in this consensual conversation as you heard ellison describe it, they were just talking. All of a sudden a shooting happens. This wasnt a chase. This wasnt a shootout or anything like that. This was an ambush. And it really does underscore how perilous the situation is in this day and age when people feel emboldened to ambush them like this. Keep in mind, absolutely, we heard the president say you know, steve bannon came late in the campaign, which is true. He started, i think it was august 15th, 16th, Something Like that last year. But donald trump was down double digits. And steve bannon and his popular message, which appealed to the works class, looks like thats what turned things around. Abby yeah, so he is now responding, steve bannon, to the rumors that he was forced out of the white house. Shear is what he is saying about it, if there is any cop fusion out there, let me clear it up for you. Im leaving the white house and im going tore war for trump against his opponents on capitol hill and in the media and in corporate america. That scares a lot of democrats for the trump base that are fighting for his jeangsd, they are saying maybe he can actually do a lot more to pressure lawmakers on capitol hill to push through things that trump has been fighting for. I think he is saying we need to start a new chapter in this white house. He is someone that i think saw a lot of different lanes going to the president. Everyone was wanting the ear of President Trump. He wept in there and said we will have to change the way things are working. Steve there was a lot of infighting and there were power struggles as well. Its interesting those two people in that picture right there. Mcmaster and also mr. Bannon did not get along. So, when mr. Bannon says he is going to go to war essentially with the white house democrats. Is he talking about gary cohn, the guy who used to run Goldman Sachs who is a democrat. Ivanka, jared and also at the same time he is going to be going against paul ryan and Mitch Mcconnell. Todd right. Steve paul ryan at least got some stuff passed through the house thats on the trump agenda. Mitch mcconnell didnt. David bossie was on as todd said a moment ago last night on the channel and depicted a little bit about what he is going to do Going Forward, mr. Bannon. Steve bannon is an honorable soldier in our effort. And somebody who is going to, as i said, lift up the president s agenda. Now, if he has policy disagreements with people inside the white house, where he was handcuffed while he was inside the white house. Thats a different ballgame, yeah. Its a different ballgame now. He may not have those same handcuffs as it relates to individuals inside the white house who he doesnt believe carries the president s agenda wholeheartedly. Steve so heres the big question is famously steve bannon on the wall of his White House Office had a great big white board and it had all of the Campaign Promises that donald trump made during his time running for president of the United States. And one by one he would check things off. Who will be the keeper of the agenda . If you think about it, if the president s agenda were to become more moderate, a lot of those things no longer would hold. So, who Going Forward, if anybody, would replace him . Kellyanne conway obviously is going to be there. Chief strategist as has Corey Lewandowski. Maybe he feels he is the best strategist for donald trump but stay tuned. Abby when this broke yesterday, you had democrats, the dnc, nancy pelosi and others making their own statements and judgment about what they think is going on there. This is a statement from the dnc. They say there is one less white supremacist in the white house. That doesnt change the man sitting behind the resolute desk. This comes in from Nancy Pelosi Steve bannons firing is welcome news. It doesnt disguise where President Trump himself stands on White Supremacists and bigoted belief they advance. Todd that language i dont know what that advances in the national discussion. There is a grievance factor. They might be talking about wars happening in the middle east. That might be aggravating fact factors for them to want to do something about it. I think Community Discussions is what we need in this country. If communities want to decide that they want to that i can them down, so be it. I said this all week, there are people on both sides of the statue debate. If you support the statue staying up. Off you are criticized for being racist, for supporting hate. Unfortunately when you are having these conversations with friends and colleagues, it starts to get very emotional in the sense of people are called racist and all that i dont think thats healthy. I think its good that why are having a conversation but please be cill about it. Passionate people from all sides. Have you people that have family members that fought in the confederacy and so they have their opinions on it as well. Historians go back and forth about what they feel is the correct history. I think its healthy as long as we remain civil. Todd speaking of civility a state senator from missouri came out and said President Trump should be assassinated, speaking of lack of civility. What is your response to that . The fact that it was elected official that said assassinate the president , i think criminal charges should be brought against her. Not only that she should resign from her position. I think thats part of the problem. The elected officials are ratcheting this up. As a result, the citizens are taking that fire and only putting more gas on it. And i think this is part of the problem in the country right now. Steve charles, she has not even apologized for it . She says she is not going to apologize. Steve she said if there are legislators cheating oor on their wives and smoking pot in their offices im not going to as resign. You shouldnt be saying assassinate anyone let alone the leader of the free world of and our commanderinchief. I think its wrong. Democrats should condemn this. If this was a republican that did this, it would be resign, resign. If someone said this about president barack obama, they would already be out of office and some type of criminal investigation. There is about 70, 75 of americans who really didnt approve of him. Part of your job when you are a Senior Leader is to gain respect and approval of and trust of the American People. When you are in that kind of a role. So i think that it is a good thing that donald trump has severed ties with him. I think he could probably do more service for donald trump at breitbart than he could have the way things are going in the white house. I think he caused a lot of problems for him. Steve i know, tammy, the president a couple days ago down played Steve Bannons role in getting him elected president. Keep in mind it was last august when steve bannon came on board to help run the campaign and donald trump was down double digits in the polls. His message that appealed to working class voters is essentially what got him over the finish line. The president though had always been down significantly in the polls. But what can i tell you interestingly when we stalk about how the American People are responding to whats been going on is the president was down when the pile on began regarding charlottesville. And then started moving up in the polls when there was a lot of, you know, the pile on when the president became very aggressive. I do think there is a mistake in thinking that steve bannon was the brain or is the brain of donald trump. Thats not true. And you heard, of course, governor huckabee say this as well. This is about the agenda. Middle america and individuals who support the president voted for the president. And they are going to trust his decisionmaking about who is around him. We also have seen some lack of a discipline in the house. We know the president , somebody more than able to fire people and get in the people that he needs arranged him. What i do think that with mr. Bannon gone there is a new general in the field. The left had better watch out what they wish for. They just may get it this is a dynamic where they under estimated the president. They underestimate the American People. You are going to now see, which we havent had yet, someone in the field who is going to be able to organize the move grassroots to make sure washington moves the agenda. Steve speaking of washington, carl, since you are clearly embedded there for a while. I havent even started yet. Steve i know. You hope it lasts 8 years and not 8 minutes. Regarding the war that mr. Bannon is supposedly going to wage, its going to be against people inside the white house and, according to some articles i read today, talking about jared and ivanka, who are moderates and also gary cohn who is also a democrat. At the same time, at the other end of pennsylvania avenue is he going up against Mitch Mcconnell because the senate has not helped him do the stuff he went to washington to do. Look at the public feuds they have had with h. R. Mcmaster and places like that. Steve bannon is amazing strategist when it comes to media and things like that. So people who are on the Opposing Side of the president or even working against his agenda need to be very careful about what they do and say because is he going to oust them. Steve is this going to help lead the agenda or is he missing an important strong voice at the end of the table. I dont think is he missing important strong voice. I think he was a strong voice to the president. I dont think he did a lot to help relationships with congress and senate, which needs to happen in order to move his agenda forward. Lets make no mistake about it. If that relationship is tough and it has been certainly getting tougher over the last few weeks, its not going to make tax reform hop. Its not going to make healthcare reform happen. People were trying to distance themselves. Teams of congressman severing themselves from the president over the last week. I think its important from symbolic perspective that he severs ties with that. People have a that have been piling on are usual suspects. They have been piling on for 18 months. This is not a surprise. I think that when you are talking about whether or not this is going to help and what helps this congress, the president needs a partner in congress. I made the argument it starts with the confederate statues it goes to the founders and ultimately i know there are some on the left go after the other monuments of the founders the constitution. I get it, but at the same time why are we going back and relet gating parts of our history that in many ways we have already paid for the sins of what we have experienced. So theyre playing politics at this point and, abby, the thing that im concerned about with this identity politics it is a poison, it is a cancer there is no good end with identity politics. Why cant we move on and have serious conversations. Instead of talking about confederate statues. Why cant we talk about healthcare reform and tax reform and infrastructure. And i think that, you know, a true reader of history would know that robert e. Lee in particular was a man who kept very careful journals. We know he was a very humble man. I think he would be appalled that we are sort of fighting to keep his statues up. Chris stirewalt had a great comment on fox news podcast the other day about the coddled represent probaits who would come and defend the statues. I think that the place, if you really wanted to limit it as ned was saying at the confederacy. Robert e. Lee was the first to admit when he lost and he sent everybody home he said listen we nor longer confederates, we are americans. These statues should be taken out and put in museums or maybe on battlefield memorials and stuff like that instead of them being paid for by citizens like the citizens of baltimore where they removed the statues the other day in the most responsible way possible, i think, which was to do it in the middle of the night. No fanfare. There today, gone tomorrow. Pablo, im concerned about is our standard is quickly becoming whatever we deem offensive should be removed. And there is really no end to that line of reasoning and argument. If we find something offensive then we must remove it yeah, we might start with those confederate statues. Kissimmee Police Sergeant sam howard is fighting for his life. I just talked with Kissimmee Police. They tell me his condition has not changed. He is still in grave condition this morning. The chief says his prognosis is not looking good. Lets give you an inside look at what happened last night. Both Sergeant Howard and officer Matthew Baxter were shot last night in what kissimmees top cop says was an ambush here in kissimmee last night not far from here. Both officers were wearing body armor when they were shot. Both were rushed here to the hospital where howard died last night. Howard was a three year veteran of the force. Is he actually married to another kissimmee officer and he leaves behind three young children. The chief said both baxter and howard are husbands, fathers and sons. And this is a very difficult time for everyone in the Kissimmee Police department. We havent experienced this in over 25 years. And you know, they prepare for it. We train for it but, you know, nothing compares to what they are going through right now. Police say they have three suspects in custody, including the shooter. You cant duck. You have to be the man or woman or that agent out there that gets big and you take that bullet for everyone else. Think about our nations cops, the men and women out there who done that blue uniform every day and put on that shield on their chest, they have to get big every single day. They do it for you. They are not getting rich. Do you think our nations cops are going to be millionaires and billionaires . These are people working for really minuscule salaries and now those three kids are going to be looking at empty seat at the dinner table for for the rest of their lives. So with isis taking responsibility for yet another attack, the need to take out the terror group has never been more critical. But are more troops on the ground in the middle east the answer . Gentlemen, you obviously have amazing background. You are the people to talk to about this. Michael, lets talk with you. What should happen . Well, you know, were going to continue to have these types of attacks, whether the bars lonena, london, you know, sadly i think eventually the United States for some time. Our brave Law Enforcement officers, our Homeland Security can only bat 1,000 for so long before these types of things get through. We cant have perfect Border Security. And the terrorists have figured out the perfect weapon, which an automobile that needs no training for a terrorist to use. So we have to continue to get at the sanctuaries overseas. Both offensively with hard power and at the ideology of extremism with soft power. That does not mean hundreds of thousands of american boots on the ground but it does mean advisors and support, whether its in syria or afghanistan. Or yemen. Much like we have done in colombia against the communist groups the farc. Like we have done the philippines and other places all over the world in the last 70 years. The bottom line is do we want to fight them over there by with and through our local allies or do we want to just, you know, fight them at home, sadly. We need to bring in allies President Trumps new friends the saudis who have a border with iraq and also the jordanians have a dog in this fight. Its their neighborhood. Why dont they run some highways up into the sunni areas, bring some reconstruction in and potentially bring some peacekeeping troops and lets let sunni troops pacify the sunni areas because those folks dont trust the baghdad government which is dominated by iran and the she a militias. Well, you know, todd, i think actually jim and i are in agreement across a number of things but the key is the United States has to lead this effort, whether its a Sunni Coalition on the ground or whether its, you know, three or four thousand more advisors in afghanistan to bolster the afghan army in their fight. But right now a massive manhunt is underway just south of orlando, florida in Central Florida for an alleged cop killer after as you guys mentioned a tragic and rough night for Law Enforcement in multiple shooting incidents in several states or at least two states, rather. Starting with the worst first. We will go to kissimmee, florida. Last night two officers with the Police Department pulled up on a group of four men standing on a corner in a neighborhood according to the chief known for drug activity. And that is when the officers Matthew Baxter and sam howard got out of their car, walked up to the group of the four men and the police chief says the officers were then shot practically point blank by the suspects. And he says he is exploring whether to call it an ambush or not. Officer baxter is dead. Officer howard this morning remains in a hospital in grave condition. These were beloved fathers and husbands and sons and so we are doing everything in our power to support them, the families and get them through this time. Further north up in jacksonville Police Officers responded to a suicidal man. When they arrived that man shot both cops who today are in serious condition. That suspect died at the scene. President trump has reacted and responded via twitter, quote my thoughts and prayers are with the Kissimmee Police and their loved ones. We are with you. And in fair chance, pennsylvania, friday, Southwest Corner of the state two state troopers there were shot after responding to serve a warrant. That person, that suspect died at the scene. Steve you are absolutely right. Steve bannon. But to steve. Steve is a loyal foot soldier for President Trump and has been for a long time. I first introduced steve to the president back in 2011. And so he has been somebody who has worked on this mission of, you know, what has become the trump agenda. The make America Great agenda for many years. Side by side with the president. And so for the last year, they have just been hand in glove working well together. And, you know, everybodys time comes. Everybody serves at the pleasure of the president. I have been on this show talking about many people who have left and you serve at the pleasure of the president. When the time comes, i understand from i talk to steve many times yesterday. He tendered his resignation. Offered it up. And they were going to do it at the right time. And i think yesterday just turned out of to be the right time. Abby as you know well though political operatives who work on the campaign arent necessarily as effective hind the walls of the white house. Sometimes it takes getting out there and pushing through an agenda. Where do you see it going from here . Republicans on capitol hill and the president working together to get some real things done for the American People . What will Steve Bannons new role . How will that play into this. A couple of things. One is the president is incredibly frustrated as i am. With the Republican Leadership in the house and senate. For them to not take a more forward leaning approach to his agenda, have a faster pace and a more methodical operation is just unfortunate for the American People. Its not why they were sent here. Look, the American People sent a republican majority to the house and republican majority to the senate. And now donald trump to the white house. To get results. To get things accomplished and get them done for the American People. We have still not seen that in the first seven or eight months of this administration. Because of the lack of leadership in both house and senate. And i think steve is going to be now a major voice from the outside. Really with taking the handcuffs off that really, you know, kind of bound him inside the white house. And didnt allow him to work as he would like to when you are in the confines of a federal job. A lot of people are saying the reason there is so much separation in washington, if you will, a big word for just a lot of lot of nonsense getting done is that the russia probe is still continuing. So this investigation has been going on for one year now. One year this month. And it has been going on by the department of justice and that special counsel. It is multiple congressional investigations, millions of dollars, dozens of witnesses. Not one shred, not one scintilla of evidence that the campaign colluded with the russians, which is what this investigation is about. And so i agree that when there is no evidence, an investigation must come to an end. No matter how much the Mainstream Media and the democrats want to it to continue. Steve you know what, david, there is evidence, and that is apparently as we discovered this past week that what, two or three years ago, the Obama Administration had evidence that the russians were actually meddling in our elections and they didnt tell anybody. Yeah. It is going to be interesting. There is two separate investigations. Obviously not related to the president. And that is the unmasking investigation, which is the Obama Administration unmasking american citizens names which is potentially a violation of the law. And i think that that is and then what president obama didnt do over what seems to be now many years and potentially two election cycles that he sat idolly by while the russians were continuing to meddle. Now, it doesnt mean president obama was in collusion with the russians. It just means he ignored it and i think that is something that congressional investigations oversight committees. Their jobs could be to look into that. Thats the responsible thing. Steve did president obama ignore it because they just figured, you know, its a slam dunk for hillary clinton, lets just be quiet on this. We8d, i dont know that they did it because its a slam dunk for hillary. I do think. Steve that she was just bound to win. I think that may be true. I dont think that the investigation of what the russians collusion or meddling was in 14 and 16. Rose to a level where they thought it meant anything. Sure it was the russians doing it . Was it a bad thing for the russians government to be doing . Absolutely. Irresponsible. To be meddling in our elections. But it didnt wasnt going to have an effect on the results. And i think only after the results didnt come out the way they want dead they point a finger. Abby yeah. That psychologically means beginning to obsess. If i were advising President Trump. The first thing i would sty him is put together some type of task force to be able to bring local, state and federal authorities together and start methodically looking at every crowded Gathering Spot across this country and begin to put together a threat assessment and start to put together Risk Management plans for those specific places. And what i mean by that is, take the venice boardwalk in los angeles, for instance. Todd right. Got a kilometer or mile and a half long boardwalk there. Have you got thousands of people traversing on that boardwalk every day. We need hydraulic ballards on that boardwalk. There needs to be Uniformed Armed Police Officers randomly checking bags and creating a presence. There is multilayers involved here. And saturated. I want to break it down a little bit. Multilayers means it would take a multifailure event for a terrorist to reach its target. Every level would have to fail. A multifailure event. Ballard one piece. Thats physical. Thats defense. 2 patrol. It is a deterrent. 3d system. Deter, detect, and deny. The second one would be the detection phase. Israel has a very significant amount of training into Law Enforcement off duty. The reason why . There is how sands of sworn Police Officers but they are not all working. When theyre off duty, they have a high degree of Counter Terror training so they can act as a force multiplier. Here in the u. S. Not so much with the off duty. The reason why . Liability. We dont want our cops responding out of uniform. We need to start changing that. And then finally, guys, the intel phase. Intel. I cant say it enough. This is a process that takes years. Developing sources, hacking emails for getting terrorist warrants to be able to kick down the doors of would be terrorist leaders which we can then interrogate and use to prevent further attacks. For us aadults, only imagine having to talk to 8 of your kids about what is going on. I thought a lot about it first of all, i believe that art isnt just meant to suit us or to make us sore. Sometimes arts meant to be there to help us grapple with difficult things, painful things in this case about our own american history. What i try to do is tell my kids, look, communities have to decide and not mobs. These things should be left up to their communities and if these statues cause pain to people in the community, that Community Needs to decide whether that statue is worth it or not. What i found though is i have really said we need to back up for our kids at least i think so much identity politics has been injected into our childrens lives. We used to talk about the melting pot when i was a kid. Thats now offensive. Now its the salad bowl. There is so much emphasis what divides us in the name of diversity is what they call it. I think we need as parents and grandparents because we cant depend on schools and the media and hollywood. If we start at that point we can have these conversations with a lot more love. Todd you raised a great point talking about schools. As a mother can you control the narrative in the household. We are starting a new school year. What is going to be the narrative that our students are getting for the schools when we went to school we had history books. Those history books articulated what happened and didnt white wash things. We knew what the facts were. What is going to happen with kids. I found my son is being introduced to peoples history. Marxist. Identity politics. Im very upset about it i said i wont i called the school and said im not paying for the book. If you want her to read it you will have to pay for it i wont put my money there it didnt ignite a good conversation. You cant depend on the school or the media or anybody else. There were a few outliers complain. It was very clear that Community Came together and decided that flag said you are not welcome to too many people in that community and they made that decision. And, again, as the parents in our own home, we cant control the outside. We can control our own families and how our kids approach this and make sure that they approach it with lo and respect. Domestic terrorism is so no matter what you do on the border, its not i think its by a 2 to 1 margin, terrorism in the United States is generally driven by right wing organizations, right wing terror. I think if you look at what happened in wisconsin with the sheep temple and what happened with dylan roof and most terrorist incidents in the United States its actually homegrown right wing terrorism. It is not muslim terrorism. Now thats not to say it doesnt happen, but on the two to one margin its actually domestically motivated right wing terror. So no matter what you do at the border, i would also point out when the president came into office signed an executive order saying he was going to put 5,000 more Border Agents in the u. S. Look, at cncs we deal with the communities and things like, this why have to look at how this effects the safety of our communities. You know President Trump ran on a wall. And to your point that this is, you know, right wing terrorism is more prevalent than islamic terrorism is fundamentally not true. In the United States of america it is absolutely true. You are wrong. That is absolutely true. The issue here is we are facing grave threats right now to our nation and President Trump is uniquely qualified to prosecute these. We have to look at this rationally, not emotionally, thats the problem with Border Security historically we have looked at so emotionally. I would lo to bring everybody we can in this country and give a shot at American Dream we have to no who they are and how they are getting here. That suspect died at the scene and finally, in fair chance pennsylvania on friday, two state troopers were on a suspect s house serving a warrant and apparently that suspect had no interest in going to jail and thats when gunfire erupted according to the state troopers up in pennsylvania, that suspect died at the scene. Steve bannon is a very smart guy he is from the beginning been very much aligned with the trump agenda. Hes very good at pushing the trump agenda, but i do think that there is a pretty good Silver Lining here when bannon went into the white house in the beginning, it was a little bit like the dog catching the car. Hes not an establishment guy. Hes not an insider guy. Hes very much an outsider guy. Theres nobody on the planet whose more effective at using the media to push and drive an agenda and of course, the Trump Administration didnt have a whole lot of friends in the media, and so i think on the outside, having somebody like steve bannon at brightbart pushing the trump agenda i think could be a tremendous asset for President Trump.
