We talked about pete maravich. I saw his first game as a college freshman. Judge kavanaugh is a big fan. We talked. I didnt want to cross examine. That wasnt the purpose of the meaning. I want to know whats in his heart but i asked him about the role of precedent in our legal system. He has thought about it deeply. I was impressed with his answers. I like what i see. The guy is whip smart. I think he can also understand and identify with ordinary people like me. Shannon we have seen you crossexamine nominees. He doesnt always end well for them. Well see how it goes. That is my job. This appointment, we are appointing an unelected, the most powerful unelected position in a country that is the most powerful and all of human history. Its a big deal. It is for life. We have to make sure we get it right, thats part of my job on judiciary. Im going to do my job. Im going to ask tough questions. But i have a pretty strong suspicion he can handle them. Shannon okay, senator menendez, one of your colleagues from across the aisle, not a big fan. He hasnt seen his full record but heres what he says. I think the American People understand judge kavanaughs record, they will rise up and that will stop his nomination. Shannon what do you think he is referring to . I have looked at his record. Im still reading his opinions. He has written about 300. As best i can tell, heres what judge kavanaugh believes. He believes the role of a judge is to call balls and strikes. To interpret the law. Not to decide every other thursday that you want to rewrite the constitution to prosecute your own personal political agenda. I think he understand sometimes charges make policy. Its inevitable when you decide a case. You are making policy for that case, and its a precedent. But he understands that judges should not try to be ideologues and do what congress is supposed to do. If you want to be an ideologue and prosecute a personal political agenda, run for congress. Run for president. Now i think thats the proper role of a judge. I think thats what judge kavanaugh understands. My friend senator mendez would probably prefer, not to put words in his mouth come i know them pretty well. He would probably prefer to have a liberal activist put on the court who says welcome you know, the constitution is important but its just a guiding principle and heres where i think we ought to go on this issue. Thats not what our founders intended. Thats just im rather fond of the constitution. I think our founders did a hell of a job with the document and we ought to follow it. Shannon okay. A lot of folks feel thats exactly what judges should be doing. If you dont want to follow it, thats why we have an amendment process. You have to do it through the democratic process. You cant just have somebody appointed, and go say i know whats best for all americans and this is what im going to do. Shannon is it true you served as a high School Substitute Teacher . I served as a substitute teacher. I have done it for i dont know since 2002. I did it once in high school. I do mostly junior high and elementary. Let me tell you why. If you want to understand what elementary and secondary education is all about, go be a voluntary substitute. They will even take politicians. Shannon who is tougher . Today my radio program, made both of them pinky swear they would endorse the other candidate should they lose. Of course, we saw casey cagle do that. This is going to be a very big deal in the state of georgia, as the republicans take on this democrat stacey abrams. Someone who is a progressive democrat. People asked me what is the difference between abrams and brian kemp . He is a gun toting, bible quoting deplorable and shes not, shannon. Shannon she is not. Potentially history in the making. I want to talk to about this other case in georgia. There was a young man about 14 years old. He was arrested on Armed Robbery charges. He got a pretty hefty sentence. It was then sliced down a little bit. He served about two and half years i understand in a juvenile correction facility. The judge they are said i think he has been imprisoned now for two and half years and i dont think it helped him much. I havent noticed a whole lot of change and im hoping to change will occur with this opportunity. She was allowing him to go into a program that was described as something that was tightly controlled, almost a military school type environment to give them a fresh start and skills to move on in life. Now he has been arrested for shooting, accused of felony murder, killing a man who was waiting for an uber to pick him up. Thats not a good end result not one you would imagine the judge would have expected. She knew we had trouble. She absolutely knew he was a troubled person. Yet completely ignored the passionate pleas of the District Attorney and the prosecutors. This kid, 14 years old, he had been serving 28 months and had racked up Something Like 25 or 30 violations. Violent violations. Instead of being sentenced and serving out the seven year sentence, instead he was let go and he was allowed to enroll in a rehab center, but here is the news nugget. Shannon, there is no indication this rehab center actually existed. As a result, this kid was on the streets. The prosecutor has evidence this guy was involved in gangs, and yet the judge did nothing. The judge let him out. What happens . This now 17yearold thug shot and killed a man who happens to be a chef in the washington, d. C. , area. Also happens to be a new father, 9monthold baby. Now this man is dead. Shannon its a devastating case. Hes been charged. Were going to follow the tribe. Another risk concerns by the d. A. s office, on social media we see him posing with guns. Not enough to get him back behind bars. You are tracking this case of someone we all know well. A man has said, if you are familiar with the military, you see this. A person who is missing in action, they been killed in action, they are not part of the family. There is a bible on the table at a number of these places at different bases around the country. He said no. He went to the military and said the bible has got to go. Itll fence people. He is succeeding. He is. The most recent incident was an air force base in wyoming.
