Basically the goal is to bring more housing and jobs to the bay area over the next 20plus years. Now it they have all of this laid out on the website. Ive been going through it all morning long. I want to tell you the details, how it will impact the viewers watching at home. Its a very ambitious plan and by 2040 officials are hoping they can add 820,000 Housing Units to the bay area as well as 1. 3 million jobs. I want to point out a majority of housing and jobs will be focussed in larger hubs such as San Francisco, san hjose and oakland. Also a focus on smaller cities such as Belmont North from where were standing and they want to add new transportation choices along the El Camino Real corridor. And that brings me to another key point in the plan which is investments in regional transportation. Now according to the plan they say theyre going to pay 303 billion in expected revenue over the next 20 years. Now they also want to be in compliance with senate 375 which address the Climate Change by reducing green emissions from cars and light duty trucks and provide sufficient housing for projected growth. Agencies involved in the plan include the metropolitan commission and the association of bay area governments as well as elected officials from across the bay area. The sherr s Department Arrested 19 year johnny brown yesterday in connection to the robbery and beating that led to the death of 88yearold flo douglas. Douglas was well known and loved in the Community Many calling her miss flo. She died last october after being attacked inside her home. 6 03 right now and a childhood friend is speaking out about the bay areaor suspect now accused of plotting to kill thousands. Our Investigative Unit was the first to break the story. Prosecutors charged 22yearold Amer Alhaggagi of oakland on a slew of San Francisco in a terror attack and was arrested last november. Now a former classmate of his at Berkeley High school says the boy he once knew is nothing like the man described in court documents. Shocking. I mean, i wonder how much of that he meant and how much of that he might have just said for wrong reasons. Ray martinez was 14 years old when he met the suspect as a freshman in soccer. Belmont Police Looking for a man involved in a bold restaurant breakin. Surveillance video shows he rides his bike near the window and smashes it with a chair. It happened on El Camino Real just before 7 00 a. M. Cars were whipping by but apparently no one called 911. Police say the man did check out the Cash Register but it was empty, and he took nothing from the restaurant. If you know who he is, contact Belmont Police. We did our own look at recent crime numbers in belmont and counted about 20 thefts reported since july 1st. At the same time the restaurant break in we just showed you in belmonts only reported burglary. Over the same period last year Belmont Police reported three burglaries. If youre going hiking in the east bay today or just enjoying some time out at the park, it will be cloudy to start but the sun starts to peak out from behind the clouds at 10 00. 70 degrees, the best time to get out there because it will be very warm this afternoon. Temperatures rising very quickly but if youre out at at t park, we are looking at those temperatures for the early afternoon that will be starting out in the lower 60s and then rising into the mid60s today. Bring the ball cap and maybe some sunscreen for all of that sunshine. And then as we head into the next several days highs in the low 70s. Inland valleys in the 90s over the next seven days. A number of crashes in the east bay. The pen iinsula and the south b were great. A cluster of incidents here on the nimitz. I think the disabled vehicle is on the approach. Chp says at alvarado did clear but theres another in the backup over here south 880 thats still in the middle lanes from what i understand. I showed my kids that video earlier. 6 25. A concerning new report finds contaminants but are still considered legal under the Safe Drinking Water act. The report was released by the environmental working group. They looked at data between 2010 and 2015 at nearly 50,000 Drinking Water facilities in the country. Developing this morning a warning about a kidnapping and ransom scam making the rounds right now in the bay area. Today in the bays kris sanchez live to explain what that scam is so you dont end up losing money. Kris, you found similar Warnings Issued in other parts of the state . Reporter in fact, weve issued warnings here in the bay area but these are so realistic and so cruel it might be hard to hang up the phone if somebody calls you saying at that your loved one, your child, your partner has been in a crash and theyre going to be held for ransom until you pay up. Pay loe w althe phone if you gea call like this. They say that theyve gotten several reports from the citizens saying that they have gotten calls from people demanding ransom money. The caller says a loved one damaged their car and will be held until the caller pays up. If you get a call like that, though, you are supposed to hang up. If you cant bring yourself to hang up, then pay loe lo alto p say press for specifics and demand to talk to your loved ones. What does my loved one look like . What are they wearing . Can you describe their car . Can i speak with that person . Ask very direct questions that will require a direct answer. Reporter just yesterday the Los Angeles Police and the fbi down in l. A. Announced the arrest of this woman, the ringleader of a virtual scam ring with victims here in california and in two other states. Lapd reports that since 2015 victims there paid 114,000 for loved ones who were never in danger. The good news here in palo alto, no one has lost any money at this point. Ro happening today the 18yearold father accused of abandoning his baby in a parking lot is expected to make his First Court Appearance. Barbers at a nearby shop say they saw daniel mitch leave the 16dayold baby in a parking the lo. The newborn was still in his car seat. Surveillance video captured the incident which happened monday afternoon. The barbers who rescued the child say they cannot stop thinking about him. We want to know whats going on with the baby because he looked all right sitting in the seat. He was alert, relaxed, sucking on a pacifier. Mitchell is charged with child abandonment and endangerment along with cocaine possession. Police say mitchell now claims he did so much cocaine he didnt know that he left his baby behind. The is not considered a suspect. 6 34. A developing story overnight. Firefighters have suckfully knocked down this grass fire in south san jose. That fire started yesterday evening near the golf club in the almaden hills air qua of san jose. The barn was destroyed. Thats the video youre looking at. The quick action did keep the flames from spreading only about five acres were burned. This morning south bay leaders want to make sure there is never a repeat of februarys damaging flooding in san jose when people had to be rescued by boat there. The Water District is teaming up with the army korm of engineers on a study to reduce the flood risks along the coyote creek. They plan to pay the corps for its assistance. San francisco leaders will debate a temporary freeze on granting new Marijuana Dispensary permits until the smoke clears on looming legislation. When the new year rolls around, Recreational Marijuana had will become legal in california. After the board approved new dispensary limits for just the excelsior District Supervisor cohen called for the 45day moratorium. She wants the board to gauge how marijuana clubs will fit into the new state andal cannabis framework. Justin herman plaza is now official. Supervisor peskin will introduce legislation calling for the change, removing the name from the plaza at embarcadero and market until a new name is determined. Justin herman led the Redevelopment Agency in the 1960s and pushed out africanamerican communities from the addition. Thousands called for the name change. Happening today transit is considering the future of some bus routes right now for three schools in the oakland hills. Oakland unified has provided service to Skyline High School and Community Day school but in january district cut the funding. They say without that money those bus services will go away. That is what Golden Gate Bridge district officials are citing for the dip in bus and ferry riders. According to the marin ij ridership is down 10 since last july. At the same time ferry ridership is down about 1 . The agency blames an unusually wet winter along with fewer fans taking ferries to giants games and a lot more congestion on highway 101. Were talking about the congestion right now but its not highway 101 because that looks great along the peninsula across the Golden Gate Bridge and the south bay very mild build. The issue is over here across the bay bridge getting all this to San Francisco. That disabled vehicle im sorry, the partial lane blockage as we head across the span. Bridge crews are heading out there. We havent seen a lot of slowing but an additional slower drive coming off the bay bridge and there be slowing for the metering lights. We will track that as well. Meanwhile as we look at the east bay, 880 south through hayward and union city, recovering from earlier, three crashes in the area between 238 and the did you know barton bridge and thats why it remains so slow. We do have recovery. Were down for 27 minutes. It was up to almost 40 minutes for a while. Southbound 880 there and the south bay talking about a lighter flow of traffic. This is great right now. Happening today the driver who Authorities Say live streamed a deadly crash on instagram is expected to pak her First Court Appearance. Police say 18yearold Obdulia Sanchez was posting on social media platform instagram when she lost control of her car in los gatos last friday. After the crash she continued to live stream even saying she was, quote, knew she was going to jail. Sanchezs 14yearold sister was in the car. She died. A second 14yearold girl was also seriously injured. Sanchez faces vehicular manslaughter and dui charges. 6 45 right now. Would you vote for california to secede from the United States . This issue is back again. You might be to answer that very question the next ballot box. The state attorney general has given the green light for a Group Calling for secession. It needs to start collecting signatures to get it on the ballot. The Campaign Needs more than 585,000 signatures to qualify for the 2018 ballot. This movement has the same name and an early attempt was withdrawn back in april. No federal procedure in place in the constitution that would allow for a state to secede from the union. Politics right now and attorney general Jeff Sessions continues to carry out President Trumps agenda even though he admits his disappointment in sessions, to put it mildly.
