In years past, runners took up two northbound lanes on the Golden Gate Bridge with one lane as a buffer then traffic still had a lane to head north. There have been several recent terror attacks where drivers plowed into people like this one at the london bridge. That has Golden Gate Bridge authorities taking note. It was time to revisit the safety factors and see if we can do this more safely reporter they decided to close the bridge on sunday morning to all northbound traffic. That means from 6 to 9 a. M. On sunday, no one will be able to drive from San Francisco to marin unless they go over the Richmond San Rafael bridge and cross over from the east bay. Golden gate transit buses will still be running northbound. But that will be closed to drivers as a precaution. Getting around could be difficult in the city because of muni closures. Whats happening with those closures, katie . Reporter now, so this is the first of five weekends when they are actually going to be stopping service to some of the stations so they can test some of the new train cars. No Service Tonight starting at 9 30 between the west portal and montgomery stations and shuttles will run between embarcadero and st. Francis circle. Reporter this fire has now destroyed 50 homes and 49 other structures. Its 10 contained. The latest destruction near the gold rush town of mariposa. The fire started on sunday and blew up over the last few days. Its burned 109 square miles. That area littered with dead trees killed by bark beetles and years of drought making it prime fire fuel. This started about two miles east of lake mcclure. Flames then jumped the merced river and several retardant lines and roads. It is still threatening about 1500 homes and other buildings. Nearly 5,000 people have been evacuated. Are we going to be victims or save our horses . We hauled the horses out and went home and got the people. Reporter the highway 140 entrance to Yosemite National park should be bumpertobumper in late july, but 140 is closed so getting into the park from the west gate is tough. Getting out is even tougher. Governor jerry brown declared a state of emergency tuesday for Mariposa County because the fire damaged power, water and Communication Infrastructure bringing the National Guard to help with relief and response. The Detwiler Fire in Mariposa County may be destructive right now, but one day it could actually help save lives. A team of researchers at San Jose State University is going into the wildfire near yosemite to get a rare glimpse inside smoke plumes. They are using a special instrument to take measurements like wind speed. Their goal is to figure out how fires create their own weather patterns such as file your whirls. This is the first time we are able to document the weather created by a wildfire. Researchers say the data they collect will hopefully one day help them predict whether smoke will affect air quality on the ground or miles away. They also hope to have the ability to warn firefighters of changing fire behavior. Time now 5 32. Roberta has her eye on the conditions in mariposa as well as here in the bay area. So people wouldnt be taking muni metro anyway. But in terms of getting back home, we will be running buses over the surface every one to four minutes. Earlier this year President Trump issued an executive order against the cities which refused to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. California senator Kamala Harris and kentucky senator rand paul have introduced a new bill to encourage states to reform their bail systems. The bill would create 10 million in federal grants over three years for courts that make certain changes. Thats right. 40 middle schoolers were expecting to learn with instructors from kevin durant basketball camp but they werent expecting the 69 warriors star to actually join them on the Basketball Court some kids had a hard time containing all that excitement. It was very motivating and it was very inspiring to see kevin durant come to our school and know he supports us. He played basketball at the university of texas at austin.
