President trump is taking action against Illegal Immigrants and sanctuary cities. He sand sand is live in san jose to tell us how local mayors are fighting back. Reporter President Trump is going to crack down on sanctuaries and three bay areas are protesting. Reporter threatening to slash millions in federal funding from sanctuary cities. Some of the mayors from the biggest cities were talking oakland, San Francisco and even here in san jose. They are now speaking out. Courts are clear that the constitution says that congress and the president cannot use federal money for unrelated purposes as a lever to get cities or counties to comply. Reporter after President Trump signed an order to slash federal funding for sanctuary cities, protests began. Heres a look at San Francisco yesterday. San francisco gets about 1 billion in federal dollars for health, housing, transportation and fighting homelessness but the mayor is unsure now how much could be at risk. Oakland gets about 130 million in federal funds. Mayor libby schaaf sent an email saying in part, the bay area stands united against this white houses morally bankrupt policies that would divide families, turn our backs on refugees in need and thwart the efforts of nearly 1 million productive young people who are on a legal path to citizenship. Obviously right now, some mayors are beginning to work on backup budget plans but they havent fully had time to commit to that should some of the slashing actually begin. I can tell you there are about 300 sanctuaries in the United States and, of course, there are also plenty of supporters of a crackdown on sanctuary sanctuary cities. A lot of supporters point to cases like the 2015 murder of kate steinle at a San Francisco pier. Sandra osborne, kpix 5. San Francisco Mayor ed lee has made it clear as well that San Francisco will remain a sanctuary city despite President Trumps threats to cut off federal grants for the city. Later today well hear more from the mayor in his 2017 state of the city address starting at 11 a. M. At Hibernia Bank on jones street. The next big march on washington could be full of scientists. They want to take a stand over the president s policies on Climate Change and other issues. They created a website and Facebook Page about the idea of a march. Westbound 80 after pinole valley road. The backup is well into crockett. Give yourself extra time there. It frees up after the scene here down towards the maze. Heres the bay bridge toll plaza. Backed up well into the maze now, carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze will now take you 43 minutes because of the pinole crash and and then 15 minutes drive through the plaza into downtown San Francisco. So heavy commute there with you we are looking good on the nimitz freeway. 238 in san leandro to the maze will take 16 minutes. Thats normal and if you are traveling into the peninsula, things are starting to slow down between hayward and foster city. Moving to the Altamont Pass, traffic at just 30 Miles Per Hour. Then down to 20 once you hit north flynn road so slow here and then if you are traveling through the south bay, youre looking pretty good. Only slowdown we have here is 101 northbound, thats 280 680 split to 237, 14 minutes. Then expect smooth traffic along 280 and 87. Marin county update. Westbound 37 has been closed because of flooding and storms lately. That traffic is still being diverted off at atherton avenue. But the update here is eastbound 37 that connector from 101 is open. We do see some slowdowns on westbound 37 at 20 Miles Per Hour. So if you are headed that way, give yourself extra time. Ill send it to you. All right, roqui. Thank you. Weekend is right around the corner. Well talk about that forecast at 18 after the hour. New this morning, police in oakland are looking for the suspects involved in a late night shooting. Officers were called to the scene around 11 00 last night near 7th and castro. At least one person is hurt. So far theres no information on what led up to the shooting or who else is involved. Crews are working to restore power in castro valley. It was knocked out last night when a tree crashed on to some power lines. It also fell on top of a car. Now, the driver in it when it happened, she was in there and was okay. She had to way for the power lines to be deenergized before she could exit the car. The woman says she has a cut on her head but is expected to be okay. New details on a massive avalanche in italy. Authorities say they have wrapped up search efforts. They pulled the bodies of the remaining two victims last night bringing the total number of victims to 29. The avalanche crashed into a hotel one week ago. Investigators are looking into claims that authorities did not arrive on the scene as soon as the emergency alarms went off. Firefighters are on the scene of a massive fire in washington state. It started at an apartment complex last night. The unit was under construction. Crews are trying to make sure the fire doesnt spread to nearby buildings. At least two firefighters have been taken to the hospital. No word on the cause of the fire. The Santa Clara ValleyWater District will let the public have its say about flood protection plans. Well have traffic and weather in less than four minutes. This story out of texas. A 75yearold woman was taking cover in a bathtub when a tornado lifted it out of the house and spun her in the air. She said she was watching tv with her son when they ran to the bathroom for shelter. And in just a matter of seconds, the tornado ripped through her house. But first lets tell you about a bart delay here from the between macarthur and richmond stations a 20minute delay on trains headed to fremont, richmond and millbrae due to an earlier power problem. Otherwise mass transit on time. Westbound 80 after pin pinole valley road a threecar crash, the lanes are open but the residual backup remains there so youre driving at 30 Miles Per Hour in the area. The traffic is backed up well beyond 780 so give yourself extra time to get through westbound 80 in the pinole, rodeo and crockett area down to the maze. Heres a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. Those metering lights are obviously on and now that traffic is even worse due to the crash on westbound 80 so from the carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze will take you about 45 minutes and expect about a 15 minute drive across the span into downtown San Francisco. The nimitz freeway looking good in both directions from 238 to the maze, thats your normal commute of 15 minutes and if you are traveling into the peninsula give yourself extra time across the span of the san mateo bridge because now we see a lot of brake lights between hayward and foster city. And the same story here along the Altamont Pass. You have 25 Miles Per Hour and just up to 31 at north flynn road so give yourself extra time here as well from north tracy boulevard to the Altamont Pass going to take over an hour so not good conditions there. Investors really buying in right now to president Donald Trumps promises of infrastructure spending, also deregulation and Corporate Tax cuts. The market taking a breather this morning so far. A lot of corporate earnings. In fact its the busiest day for corporations to report earnings for the 4th quarter. Ebay is one of those and its a big winner. The san jose firm reported growing sales for the fourth straight quarter. Its a big deal for shareholders because when ebay spun off paypal, it was believed that paypal was going to be the real hot Growth Engine out of the company. And that ebays marketplace might struggle a bit. But sales have risen since then thanks to a redesigned website making it easier to search for things and ebays shares are surging higher by about 6 in the early going. If i saw it i would freak out and fall off. Shark experts say it was a juvenile great white about 8 feet long. Eden was not injured. He is very lucky. Thats scary, right . I mean, you saw it. And then on top of that, westbound 37 that traffic is still being diverted off at atherton avenue by chp and this is due to some flooding and storms from earlier and then eastbound 37 the connector from 101 is now open. So a lot going on, on the marin county commute but otherwise looking good down to the Golden Gate Bridge. But we have trouble on the east shore freeway. Westbound 80 after pinole valley road three car crash moved off the road but that backup still remains just right at the carquinez bridge there so youre moving at 20 Miles Per Hour down to the maze.
