is making sure local farmworkers have the support they need for themselves and their families. by bringing the community together. >> we have food a hotmail. it is food for families to take home. blankets and water. jackets. sweaters. a lot of items. farmers are receiving today. >> reporter: helping to coordinate events like this. and the need was there. once the word got out the line grew and grew and grew. for joaquin it is just all in a days work. >> helping those who harvest crops for our table. by giving them food for theirs. this is already a tough time of year for farmworkers. jobs are normally scarce in the winter compared to spring. several farms sustained a lot of damage to their properties and crops. and that will likely have some long-term impacts on their business. and the larger agricultural community in that area. to a silver lining from all the storms. the drought map map is painting a picture we haven't seen in years. paul hagan is here to show us all of that. destructive and even tragic as the stretch of weather has been it has had a huge impact on the drought situation. to put that in perspective let's look at what the drought monitor map look at one month ago. the bay area at least a moderate drought conditions. plenty of north bay and east bay in extreme drought conditions. the second-worst category. here's the latest update from the drought monitor the came out this morning. almost the entire bay area now in moderate drought conditions. severe drought has been pushed into the central valley even that is shrinking. the extreme drought has been completely erased from the map. that is what 24 days of extreme rainfall will do from a drought perspective. it is the same story across the state. 0% of the state and exceptional drought. 0% of the state extreme drought. less than 50% of california in severe drought. it is the first time since may of last year that none of the state is an exceptional drought. the first time since november of 2020 that we see that number being that low down to 43% in severe drought. the first time since april 2020 almost 3 years ago that none of california is in the worst 2 drought categories. while we need some time to recover from this long stretch of web weather. time to mentally decompress and cleanup. eventually we would like to get back into a normal wintry showery pattern. to help chip away at these existing drought conditions. the continuing drought conditions. we will see if that likely. when i come back with a full forecast. while the severe storms caused massive damage across the state local vineyards near sacramento are soaking it up. reporter andrew explains why the heavy rain is a good thing even farmers freshly fertile land. >> reporter: juliet winery general manager and mcewan jokes the vineyard has lakefront property. >> a flooded field next to the vineyard has enveloped some vines but it is nothing to worry about. >> right now hopefully with this beautiful son we are able to get back to normal. >> reporter: the vines are dormant the only worry is oversaturation. >> as long as it dries out within a good amount of time before we start before the fruit starts develop -- and we are still about a month from that. >> reporter: in courtland sarah grose pairs that eventually become emily cider. >> this has been a cold storm with lots of water but not too much water. it is actually been really good for us. >> reporter: some of these trees have been around for generations that are built for rain and floods. >> we handle -- they have a shower root system. >> reporter: the concern is timing. >> if we continue into february and march and we continue to grow we do have some concerns. >> reporter: and temperature. >> wintry start to bloom they become susceptible to mold and fungus is that can damage fruit . then if we get some rain in april and we have standing water then it is an issue. whereas now this is great. >> reporter: for the most part it can mean a good growing season ahead for everyone in california's breadbasket. growing season is not too far off. receiving the waters were a big boost farmers say that is quite enough for now. some people in south lake tahoe say they haven't had a visit from their letter carrier since the holidays. the postal service says the back to back snowstorm has played a big role in the disruptions. it now had several 4 x 4 vehicles to help carriers which areas that are still digging out. >> we've been waiting two hours in line to get their mail. that hasn't been delivered at home. the snow the snow the snow. >> in my neighborhood it is one lane road still. so i'm assuming the postman cannot get to a lot of the residence. people are wondering where their mail is. >> he wants a solution to the problem immediately. and then an investigation into what went wrong. so it won't happen again. state law designed to ease california severe housing crunch is not working. senate bill 92 years ago about single-family homeowners to convert their homes at the duplexes. so far there has been little construction. the bill ignited a fi deamong s who said it was a much-needed option and critics who called it a radical policy that undermined local government control. alec baldwin is facing possible prison time for that deadly will be set shooting in new mexico. the actor was holding a prop gun that went off killing the cinematographer of the western rest and wounding the fremont born director. michael george has more. >> reporter: alec baldwin's lawyer said they will fight and they will win after the santa fe district attorney announced involuntary manslaughter charges against the actor for the 2021 shooting death of cinematographer helena hutchins on the set of the western film rest. >> what we are talking about is not an intentional killing. we are talking about a potentially lawful act. that you engage in but you are criminally negligent. >> reporter: movie armorer hannah gutierrez reed will be charged. the district attorney released a statement saying if any one of these three people baldwin gutierrez reed or assistant director david hall's had done their job helena hutchins will be alive today. it is that simple. the evidence clearly shows a pattern of criminal disregard for safety on the rest film set. prosecutors reached a plea deal with hall's for negligence use of a deadly weapon. >> this is both surprising and not. a number of criminal defense attorneys were saying not only is there a lack of intent here but we are not sure that we see that level of criminal negligence. on the other hand what we saw from the prosecutor i think is that this was being planned for a while. >> reporter: during an october 2021 rehearsal baldwin was holding the popgun when it discharged a round. killing hutchins and injuring director joe souza. in a statement the actor's attorney called the charges a terrible miscarriage of justice. saying mr. baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live lid in the gun or anywhere on the movie set. gutierrez reed also denies any wrongdoing. prosecutors say they were formally file file charges by the end of the month. alec baldwin and gutierrez reed face up to 18 months in prison if this case goes to trial. and they are convicted. prosecutors say the insistent director who handed baldwin the gun has already agreed to plead guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon and to testify for the state. a hiker missing on mt. baldy has been identified as british actor julian sands. is known for his work in more than 150 shows and films including a room with a view. his wife reported him missing last friday. several weather and avalanche warnings for screws to pull back. they're using drones and helicopters to continue to look for him. a unique approach to dealing with those nuisance neighbors. coyotes. animal control officers in sacramento received a number of reports of sightings in recent days. they are t-mobile customers, the company said a hacker stole the personal information of 37 million customers. t-mobile revealed the breach in a revelatory filing on thursday. but it happened in november. the company said the hacker to data that included uses names addresses emails phone numbers and dates of birth. no social security numbers or financial information was exposed. t-mobile said it is in the process of notifying impacted customers. the first time in more than 30 years the u.s. department of agriculture is cracking down on how foods are labeled as organic. the new rule toughens up on production handling and sales. the agency is also putting layers of protection around the organic seal. this means more on-site inspections and certification for organic imports. the rule goes into weekend. those are just going to filter the sunshine. they're not going to block it. cloud free through tonight. cloud free for most of the day friday. limited sunshine limited power of the sunshine in january not going to warm us up a lot. the passing clouds saturday in other pat passing clouds on sunday. they're not going to drop any precipitation again just filtering the sun not blocking it. ideally as i mentioned a few minutes ago we were talking about the drought situation. we would like a nice stretch of dry weather. the next 7 to 10 days. and then to get back into a normal winter pattern. at the deluge we pat the next 3 1/2 weeks. just passing systems that give us rain like we had last night. if you hundreds of an inch to maybe half an inch on the high end of things. but with the 6 to 10 day outlook shows us. that takes us through a week from sunday. the last we can of january significant chance of drier than normal conditions. most forecast models indicating zero rainfall through next weekend. but then the 8 to 14 day outlook through groundhog day shows a weak signal towards what are the normal conditions. not a return to the heavy rain but just an indication that maybe we will get back into a typical winter pattern. we still do need some additional rain eventually to help to chip away at the drought conditions across the state. high temps today spectacular sunset looking west from salesforce tower. only low to middle 50s. very similar temperatures in store for us tomorrow. right now we've got mostly low 50s on the map. down to 46 degrees in petaluma. those numbers would drop down to the 30s and lend with a mixture of upper 30s and low 40s around the bay in along the coast. temperatures below average but not record-setting and not very close. temperatures tomorrow once we start off chile. it is hard to make up ground in january with the limited amount of the sunshine. temperatures reaching to the low to middle 50s once again. if you spot to the northbay reaching into the upper 50s. we will return to near normal temperatures for the second half of the weekend. similar story as we head through all of next week. upper 50s and low 60s. it will take some getting used to for the next few days. completely rain free seven day forecast. the long-range data does show maybe some shower chances headed our way by late january into early february. time for a check what is ahead at six. we got used to it pretty quickly. coming up at six a slow-motion disaster in the east bay drone video shows the devastation were a home is sliding down a heel and were neighbors worried the ground is unstable. this is one extremely lucky dog. she somehow got buried under huge rocks at ocean beach. she may not have been found if it wasn't for a very shores. it is bringing treasure from the deep. if you are into golf that is. hundreds of golf balls are washing up along carmel river state beach. a number of ritzy courses including of course the famous pebble beach. so these are low-quality range balls. they are fancy for local golfers. it is a major score. this is my third day down here. i get about 50 to 100 1/2 hour. i've seen a lot of other people picking up balls too. throughout the day. there is still a lot. they will keep getting pushed onto the beach. there is plenty. keeps saving them. each one of those leaves is $30 a pop.
