The shooting happened last weekend outside a 711. Lawrence died at the scene and police are searching for a gunman. Lawrences relatives are asking for help with expenses since the loss. It burned for two months. Documents say keith emerald ignored restrictions and started a camp fire that grew out of control. Then another twist, emerald according to the signed affidavit confessed to starting a camp fire but later emerald told investigators he was pressured to confess. He recant the story two weeks later. We will put 4000 back packs in the hands of Service Members, children, as well as the new School Supplies to get them ready for the school year. This isnt the first year you have done this. Its national too. We have it going all over the country with various operations and things of that nature. Its one of the scenarios where the slightest up tim in a budget for a Young Service member with a spouse or kids can make or break whether pay the bills. We are in existence to be sure that the more that they can focus on their job because they know their families are taken care of. As theyre deployed overseas in afghanistan and other areas of the world the more theyre going to be able to focus on that, better tale be able to do theyll be able to do their job. Operation homefront came about because of 9 11. Right. It was a homegrown project started in Southern California as Service Members were deploying at greater length and more frequently families needed help at home and citizens got together do that. It has over the years since formalized head quarter in his san antonio. In california we take care of Service Members and veterans and Wounded Warriors all over. Its grown into a Wonderful National organization. This is a labor of love for you because you know the situation being a vet. Sure. You know, especially in califoall the military installations we have. Its not uncommon to see a lot of people in the private community. We knew what it was like deployed, family separations. We knew what hardships were for those left behind as we are doing our work. Now i get to pay it back on a small level. I am happy to do it. This Backpack Program is one of many Operation Homefront is involved in. We encompass a wide range of needs from housing for Wounded Warriors, job training, veterans, assistance needs, emergency Financial Assistance programs for families. If they need car repaired and dont have the funds that can be debilitating for somebody that needs to get kids to school. We have programs in place that we will identify. We will solicit needs from Service Members and their families and see what we can do to help. It is a constant demand we are trying to meet and we are happy to do our part. Tell us about some of the specific demands or needs that families have that the general public may not consider. I dont think people understand the sacrifices that particularly junior enlisted people have in the state. Theyre paid fair but not exhausted exorbitant wages. It becomes a balance to try to keep the budget solvent for them in a day to day life of living in the bay area or Southern California. As needs arise this is probably where we do the most work. We are there to help support them, get Financial Assistance for Little Things that can add to a lot. We have programs with rehab of veterans, housing programs we have for people who need them to get back to their productive years, job Training Facilities and things of that nature. Its the day to day things that can make life struggle for Service Members. I know this doesnt cover Operation Homefront but still with the controversy going on with the Veterans Administration earlier this year, that had to turn your stomach to see how vets were treated being a vet yourself. As a personal aside, not Operation Home front, its a tribute to the fact that there are a lot of Service Members being saved on the battlefield that would not have lived after their injuries even 20 years ago. Now what you have is a reintroduction back to society and a need for longer term care with v. A. To your point with Operation Homefront you will see that a lot in Wounded Warrior programs, in the job training, rehab, homes for heroes project we have. There is more demand for that than there was at inception because more people are coming back with injuries. The need is greater than ever. The World Health Organization declaring Ebola Outbreak in west africa an International Health emergency. More than 900 people have died and the disease shows no signs of slowing. Spoke with a pair of doctors recently in africa. We are dealing with a complicated crisis here. Clinical fellow at ucfs specializes in infectious diseases. He spent an an ex extensive amount of time in sierra leone. People are afraid to seek medical help. The communitys afraid to bring their family to receive medical care. It is not only astonishing but its problematic, fueling the crisis. Its really making us concerned about how to appropriately tackle the outbreak. This thing will not burn itself out. A professor of Global Health, he says there is a real danger this outbreak could keep spreading and believes it will take International Effort to stop it. Until there is a massive, massive containment effort involving this huge deployment of Additional Health professionals and resources its going to be difficult to get on top of the outbreak. Cdc, who, numerous other Health Agencies have moved some resources into west africa but thats not enough. Effort will have to be accelerated. Were going to have to see massive deployment to get on top of this. West nile virus posing a threat in the bay area. 560 dead birds have been found this year and those numbers are staggering compared to the rest of the bay area. Santa clara county ventra control has been busy testing for west nile virus this summer. Most birds found positive are crows. The 560 fatalities represent more than seven times the number of dead birds found last year. Were getting daily and testing at least two dozen birds it seems the last couple weeks. Memories of the 1978 jones town massacre are resurfacing for family members of more than 900 people who committed mass suicide. His arraignment in rental fraud case was held until monday. They have chickens roaming, farm dogs, a really casual place to experience the real wine criminal. Its not your typical winery you will go to. Very low key. This is a great spot for a picnic right at the beginning of the so called wine trail. You can stop by, sit under the shady trees. It looks like a terrific setting. I want to go right now. They make such small production wines that they hand write the labels. Really . The case number, aging technique. Its really, really great family run business. It seems like you are getting a special bottle of wine when you see something handwritten. Hand made wine, exactly. Fantastic. What else can we do . You can go to campo debochi. It is a massive complex. They have indoor and outdoor. You can bring a group, the family, do a corporate event. They rent the courts for 12. 50 per person for an hour and a half.
