Fire crews remain on scene of that smoldering building. They plan to remain there all day to put out hot spots. That fire broke out just after ten last night at Pacific Supply company on 24th and wood. Whats still unclear this noon is how it started. Ktvu ali rasmus shows us the intense flames and the mess it left behind. More than ten hours after the fire at the Pacific Supply warehouse in west oakland broke out, firefighters kept a steady stream of water directed at the building. The fire that started at 10 00 last night near 24th and wood burned. So hot and the flames and smoke so intense, firefighters had to ask east bay mud to boost the water pressure to tackle it. We had a full roof collapse and its a metal roof, so underneath the roof is actually roofing material because its a roofing material. Supply warehouse. Representatives from Pacific Supply declined to speak with us on camera, but work with firefighters this morning on a plan to bring in heavy equipment to the site. Theyre trying to remove parts of the metal roof that collapsed. Well probably be here all day. Were looking to get maybe excavation equipment out here just to move some of the roofing material around the metal roof, around, so that we can get some of the deep seated fires. How this fire began is under investigation, but it started outside the building and spread inside before consuming the warehouse. No one was hurt and the fire did not spread to any other buildings. By late morning, Oakland Public Works crews were brought in to help drain nearby roads. So much water was directed at the fire. Over a ten hour period, the streets looked like lagoons. The Flammable Materials trapped underneath the buildings roof continued to smolder well into the morning, sending regular plumes of dark smoke into the air. Roadway flooding and street closures in the area around this warehouse will continue to be a problem for much of the day. Also, a smoke from this fire continues to be a problem, and so firefighters recommend that if you live near 24th and wood in the neighborhoods around here, you should keep your windows closed to avoid some of that smoke in oakland. Ali rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. New at noon the National Transportation safety board is sanctioning boeing for sharing private information. The stage is now set in atlanta and anticipation is high as both president ial candidates make last minute preparations for tonights debate. Doug luzader has more from atlanta. The first president ial debate is now just hours away. But even before the candidates take the stage tonight, the campaigns are hitting the airwaves. Its going to be hot outside the debate here in atlanta, and it may be even hotter inside on the stage and ahead of the big event, the Biden Campaign announcing a multimillion dollar ad blitz across battleground states, including billboards like this one highlighting project 2025, warning voters about what they call the plan by Donald Trumps maga republican allies to give trump more power over your daily life. Donald trump wakes up every morning trying to figure out how to benefit donald trump. President biden wakes up every morning worrying about the american people. The Trump Campaign firing back with their first tv spot since the former president became the Presumptive Republican nominee. One of the ads is a tongue in cheek montage of President Bidens physical stumbles, but the other highlights the Biden Administrations record on the economy. A message that may be connecting with some swing state voters. Seeing someone stand up to the establishment, i have no choice but to admire that. But even folks whose minds are made up plan on tuning in, and its not going to influence my vote. But, you know, its entertainment. Tonights debate comes as the race remains a virtual tie. Our most recent fox news poll has trump at 48, biden at 50. That is within the margin of error. In atlanta, im doug luzader for ktvu. Fox two news. Well, Governor Newsom will also be at tonights debate as bidens surrogate. We are airing tonights debate right here on ktvu. It starts at 6 p. M. The Supreme Court could soon rattle politics with a blockbuster opinion regarding whether former President Trump is immune from criminal prosecution. It is arguably the most crucial opinion left as the court prepares to recess for the summer. Meanwhile, a decision on a key Abortion Case is officially released. Rebecca castor has the latest from washington. The emergency room is there to provide health care. Abortion is not health care. Prolife protesters on the steps of the Supreme Court letting the justices know theyre not happy with the courts decision to throw out a case that pitted a federal law to perform emergency abortions against idahos neartotal ban. They try to muddy the issue and confuse people by thinking, you know, that we dont want to give health care to women. That is not true. In a one sentence statement, the Court Dismissed the case. We got a sneak peek wednesday when a draft opinion was mistakenly posted briefly on the courts website. Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote to many aspects of the case have changed and rendered the scope of the dispute unclear at best. Its hard to feign surprise with the fact that this opinion came out last night by mistake. It was the ultimate off ramp. Some hospitals in idaho were sending women with pregnancy complications out of state, because some doctors fear theyll Face Criminal Charges if they perform an abortion. In the wake of the states neartotal ban after six weeks, the Biden Administration argued federal law requires doctors to give stabilizing treatment in medical emergencies, including abortions and democrats in congress say theyll do their part. We will not rest until reproductive freedom is the law of the land for every single woman in the United States of america, President Biden is sure to make the abortion issue front and center at tonights debate. But theres also another Supreme Court decision looming that could change the course of this election. Whether former President Donald Trump is immune from criminal prosecution for actions he took while in office. That ruling could come out friday. Its going to be a heck of a day. Its basically roberts has decided to hold the world cup, world series and the super bowl. Were still waiting on decisions in several cases, but theres no rhyme or reason why some rulings come out before others. The chief justice simply says the decisions come out once theyre finalized from the Supreme Court. Rebecca kastner, ktvu, fox two news. I think this is the finest looking summer day so far this season. Well, its been about a week since summer arrived. Hi, everybody. Lets get to it. Its our live weather camera looking out for Monument Peak in the santa clara valley. Not a cloud in the sky. In fact, i have to go due west off shore to find any kind of mid and high level cloudiness. It is just a stellar day in progress here. Right now, right there in the santa clara valley, 78 degrees. Were in the 70s in our inland areas, except for fairfield is just now popped up to 80 degrees. How about 68 degrees in East Palo Alto and in palo alto, atherton and woodside . Now 70 degrees. Its 62. In the city by the bay. The winds are breezy and these winds will continue to blow today out of the west, 10 to 20mph. And occasionally, especially right at the coast, we could see a gust up to 30mph in comparison to yesterday. At this hour, temperatures are averaging up to six degrees eight degrees warmer than lunchtime yesterday. So heres the deal. This is our satellite imagery. And we do have this area of low pressure. Well to the north of the bay area that will bring Copious Amounts of precipitation to seattle, even back in through portland for the next couple of days before the sunshine returns over the weekend. Now theres a good reason why im mentioning that, not because its affecting whats going on here. Now, we do sure have the low clouds parked at the coast and then overnight tonight, the surge of that energy wants to push inland all the way, 50 miles inland towards the dublin grade. So tomorrow morning, when we wake up to sunrise at 550, it will be obscured in many places around the peninsula, like pescadero, colma and la honda. Even the sunset district. But all this will wipe away. Meanwhile, today its a glorious day. If youre heading on out to the Alameda County fair, this is the time to do it. Temperatures are quite conducive. 82 degrees. Hey, we got next time around. I want to talk to you about that trough to the north of us and how it affects our weather here in fact, triple digits in the offing. Ill tell you when thats all going to arrive. Gasia roberta, thank you. People at an Oakland Hills neighborhood wake up to shattered glass in the driveway. Nearly a dozen cars hit by thieves in the middle of the night. Well have the latest on the investigation that has many on edge. White hole at gardmore park in alton, illinois, along the mississippi river. Sinkhole formed about 10 00 yesterday morning. Local media report it was the result of an underground mine collapse. Luckily, nobody was on the field at the time. All events at that park, though, have been canceled. Many people in the Oakland Hills woke up to find their cars were broken into overnight. Thieves hit several streets in a matter of minutes. Ktvu is betty yu spoke with some of the victims who say they think it was all part of a coordinated crime spree. Video shows a car pull up and park in the middle of a cul de sac just before 3 a. M. On tuesday. The suspects casually stroll up to different cars. They focus on the audi and easily break the window and rummage through it before walking back to the getaway car. In no apparent rush. Theyre getting more brazen every day. It looks like they had broke the window, and then they crawled in through the window, opened the center console, ruffled through there, pulled the mask, and the only mask and napkins in there pull them out onto the seat and then crawled back out, because if they open the door, the alarm goes off. Longtime resident roger warsuma said. Outside of one off car break ins in the past, the merrywood neighborhood hasnt been targeted like this. Right after this video captured what looked like the same car and suspects at another cul de sac pulling the same stunt, they appeared to use glass breaking tools and didnt set off any car alarms. Another camera angle shows them getting into a porsche. Nearly a dozen residents woke up to shattered glass in their cars and on their driveways in the morning. Its extremely frustrating because they just like, you know, you would think that, you know, here would be relatively safe. And i just feel like its the city of oakland is just is there any place left that is safe . This happened to me six months ago, and i was down on lakeshore. Jane barnes reported the burglary to the Nonemergency Police line and spoke to an Oakland Police officer. He even said he was like, you know, like, were going to log this and try, but we really dont have anything to go off of. Is there an end in sight . You know, where is it going to come from . Is it going to come from, you know, the city . Is it going to come from the police . Like what else is there to do . Im just at a loss. Residents said in one case, these thieves actually took a garage door opener from one of the vehicles, used it to open the garage and go through it. Its unclear if they got away with any property in oakland. Betty yu, ktvu, fox two news well, california lawmakers are speaking out saying the right to have a Landline Phone Service needs to be protected. Now. Right now, at t is whats called a carrier of last resort, meaning its required by law to offer landline service. But that could soon change thanks to a bill that would make it easier for the carrier to pull out of certain areas. Critics say having access to a landline can be a lifeline during storms, earthquakes and wildfires. If this passes, they are not obliged to provide service, which means they can pull completely out of serving an area they can decide they dont want to serve certain neighborhoods, they can decline service to customers, they can refuse to repair their phone lines. The bill includes important protections, safeguards and outreach for consumers and will be heard by city utility committees on july 2nd. Well, paris hilton is finding the change. The foster care and Child Welfare system. She is on capitol hill to testify in front of a house committee. She urged lawmakers to establish better protections for children in the foster system. Now, as a teenager, hilton was sent to multiple facilities because she was not doing well in school. Well, now shes an advocate for these children, calling them victims of a for profit industry. When i was 16 years old, i was ripped from my bed in the middle of the night and transported across state lines to the first of four youth residential treatment facilities. These programs promised healing, growth and support, but instead did not allow me to speak or move freely or even look out a window for two years, hilton says. More than 50,000 foster youth are in facilities that make 23 billion a year. California lawmakers sent a budget to Governor Newsom, addressing a nearly 50 billion shortfall. The total budgets at around 298 billion. It cut spending while temporarily raising taxes on some businesses. It also means that open state worker positions will not be filled. The governor is expected to sign the budget in the coming days. In San Francisco, the board of Supervisors Budget Committee approved a deal that restores millions of dollars in funding. The budget originally had 95 million in cuts to various programs, but the board was able to restore nearly two thirds of that and put another 36 million into reserves. The deal returns funding to programs that support child care services, violence prevention and Food Security for families. Were still working on getting more details on exactly how the city will pay for those programs. The deal now goes to a full board for a vote scheduled for july 16th.
