It is still early enough for a decent commute. When you good et to the bay bridge get to the bay bridge, traffic is backed up for 10 to 15 minutes. Traffic is okay into the livermore valley, slow on 680 as you are away from the dublin interchange. 880 south is beginning to show in pockets from 238 to union city. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. Santa clara county Sheriffs Office has roped off a neighborhood in saratoga. A deputy shot someone last night. We have a reporter in saratoga to talk about the investigation so far. Reporter deputies are staying tight lipped about the shooting. We know that the crime scene unit is here. Theyre here on titus avenue off of prospect road. They are collecting evidence. They have been doing that all throughout the night into this morning. Deputies were called to the scene at 7 40 last night. Theyre not saying what the circumstances were but at some point a deputy pulled his gun and opened fire on a suspect inside a home on titus. The condition of the person is not being released. The deputy involved in the shooting is a veteran. No other officers were injured in the shooting. Our deputies do a great job everyday. We know that the job is inherently dangerous. We are investigating this and we are following all standard protocols and procedures. Reporter a school with classes for kindergarten through 8th grade is across from the scene. Its unknown if the school will be impacted or if deputies will have wrapped up investigation by the time classes begin at 8 30. We will let you know about that. We are waiting to hear from a sheriffs spokesman to see if they can release details about what sparked this and really why the deputy opened fire on a person here. Back to you. Usgs recorded magnitude 3. 5 east of piedmont at 12 50 this morning. The shake map shows seismic activity mainly in Alameda County there if you see that. We did hear from a lot of you. Some people called immediately. They felt the ground shaking from oakland, san leandro and San Francisco. We want to share some of the posts on our facebook page. Bernardita said i felt it really good in piedmont pines. Me and my dog looked at each other like we were confused. Molly says felt in santa clara near the train station. Then super weird. South korea recovering from two strong earthquakes, one the largest ever recorded. The magnitude 5. 1 and 5. 8 quakes hit last night, shaking cracked walls as you can see. Some walls crumbled. Windows were shattered. Seismic activity is rare in south korea compared to japan. At home, Uc Berkeley Police investigating three sexual assaults at a weekend concert. It happened saturday night during the sold out block party at the greek theater. In the first case an 18 year old student met a man in the port o potty line and he later assaulted her. Two other women are reported being attacked by men they did not know. One student who worked as an usher at the event says the assaults are disappointing about you shes not but shes not surprised. Everyone is taking substances. Its crowded. I feel like it is easier to get away with that. Its really loud. A lot of stuff like that would go unnoticed. Police say during the bigger events where people are drinking alcohol, sexual assaults are not uncommon. Police are still looking into the attacks from saturday night but so far there are no similarities other than they all happened at the concert. The suspect in the first case is described as a white man between 511 and 60 with athletic build, brown hair, blue eyes. He was wearing a floral short sleeve shirt and khaki shorts. In the second case the suspect is latino, 21 years old, 57 with a medium build. He was wearing a multi colored tank top, dark shorts, and a hat. So far there is no description on the suspect in the third case. Also at uc better than lee police are looking for two suspects in a violent probably. The Victim Told Police he was approached by two men at piedmont and band c after midnight yesterday. He says the men punched him and knocked him unconscious. When he regained consciousness his briefcase was gone. Witnesses told police they saw a white car speeding away from the scene. There are very few details about suspects and their descriptions. The victim was taken to a hospital. We are hearing from the father of a toddler killed in an alleged dui crash in Alameda County friday. This is a heart breaking story. 3 year old elijah done was in the back seat of his mothers car when it ran out of gas. The car was pulled over to the side of the highway when it was rear ended by an suv. Elijah was airlifted to the hospital but did not make it. His mother is still in the hospital. The boys father says elijah was his best friend. Everywhere i went he was my right hand man, my shadow. He was everything to me. We were so close. A 12 year old and 22 month old baby girl were also in the car during the crash. They are expected to be okay. The suspect is a 39 year old pleasanton woman. She was under the influence when she crashed into the stalled car. Shes married to an Alameda County sheriffs deputy. Bart is expecting to complete a major step towards extending bart to san jose. Bart hopes to open a warm spring station in south fremont before halloween. We dont know the exact date yet. The warm springs bart station is expected to increase rider ship by 4700 daily trips. A news helicopter captured the police handcuffing one demonstrator outside of the studio. Two men wearing antilochte shirts stormed the tv stage after the olympic swimmer finished his performance. Throughout the incident, the tv cameras stayed on one of the judges who was yelling at the protesters to get off the stage. The show went to commercial and security removed demonstrators. Although ryan lochte was never touched, he says he felt hurt and ripped apart but says he will brush off the incident. Ncaa is pulling seven championship events scheduled in North Carolina for the upcoming year because of North Carolinas controversial lgbt law. The law limits antidiscrimination protections for Lgbt Community and requires transgender people to use public bathrooms based on their biological sex instead of the gender they currently identify with. Ncaa events relocating out of North Carolina include womens soccer and lacrosse championships and first and second outside of the mens basketball tournament. We have had a couple different crashes in this area this morning, 237 at Great America parkway off ramp there is a new crash and traffic will be busy as you can see. It is backed up to 880. Our camera nearby is spotting some of the slow traffic here as you can see. Its kind of an early commute and its not a good one on 237. You might want to think about using the montague express way or getting on the road early in this area. 6 17. Lets bring steve in. As you saw, 237 is not looking great. Bay bridge toll plaza is more normal. Look how nice and clear that is. We see the east bay hills. The fog at least here is not an issue. Visibility is great on the way into San Francisco. 6 32. Back to the desk. Did you watch the game last night . For the 6th season the 49ers are 10, beat l. A. Rams 280. It was all about defense and rushing. Hyde ran for 88 yards, two touchdowns. The 49ers defense had two interceptions. Here is one of them. The quarterback was 22 of 35 including this eight yard touchdown pass to mcdonald early in the 4th. The 49ers only had two penalties the whole game. The new head coach was happy as you can imagine but says there is still a lot of work to do. There are a lot of things we need to do better and we need to build on. Its easier when you win than when you lose to make the corrections. We didnt run the ball well in the third quarter. I think we can cover our kick offs better. Some of those go farther than we think. A lot of people were paying attention before the game to see what would happen during the National Anthem. Colin kaepernick again took a knee along with his teammate eric reid. They werent alone in taking action either. Some players were kneeling and others you see were raising their fist. Alex savage joins us with more on how the players are joining in on the protest. We remember when Colin Kaepernick first took the stand and faced backlash. He is certainly not alone. He has a number of teammates and players around the league taking part in this. More players joining Colin Kaepernick to take a stand against racial injustice. This is more of the scene at levi stadium in santa clara before the miners played rams. Kaepernick and reid knelt and a couple other teammates held up their fists in a show of solidarity. The character that these players are showing and the lengths theyre going to be able to say i dont agree with this and i am going to stand for this regardless of the consequences is amazing. He spoke and our team listened. We understand what he is trying to do. As far as our locker room, there is no distraction. He is fighting a cause. He is standing forward. More power to him. At the end of the day, we know what we are here for. We are here to play football. On the other sideline, two rams players raised their fist as well. Military Service Members held up the large flag over the field and got some help from a 49ers player quentin dial. He joined with some Service Members to raise the flag. Some fans said they dont like the attention paid to the players protesting. I will look the other way. I wish they wouldnt show him as much as they do. I dont know why theyre doing it. Personally, i think they ought to show other people that are standing and representing our country more. You will remember since the beginning of preseason Colin Kaepernick has refused to stand for the anthem. Initially he was on the bench. Then he decided to take a knee. He is trying to draw attention to inequality and police brutality. He is proud of the players standing with him especially given the consequences. Brandon marshal has already lost two endorsement deals after taking a knee during the National Anthem. Those deals he lost were with century link and air academy federal credit union. Thats a credit union in the denver area. Interesting. He is dealing with those consequences. It will be interesting to see if other companies do the same, if they dont want to be involved. Thats why a lot of players tend to sort of bow out from protests like this and decide not to take a stand. They have deals to think about, and they have their careers to think about. There could be consequences. Some have talked about being sensitive to military and if the people are offended. Its such a discussion. We have been reporting that the santa clara Police Officers association has sent a letter to the 49ers saying kaepernicks comments about Police Violence were insulting. It said the pig police socks that kaepernick wore to practice last month were derogatory. There were worries that not enough police would be available to provide security for the first game of the season but the Santa Clara Police chief says there were no problems getting officers for security duty for last nights game. The response has been fabulous. We have had full cooperation. A lot of people signed up voluntarily. We got full Staffing Levels that we normally have. The event is going well, business as usual. The chief says for security reasons, he cannot say how many officers work at the games. 6 37. Former president bill clinton is expected to fill in for his wife Hillary Clinton today at two Campaign Fund raisers in los angeles while she recovers from pneumonia. She did not travel across country to San Francisco last night to be at a fund raiser. Instead she talked to the crowd by phone. The tickets for the event ranged from 250 to 100,000. One was a san jose bail bonds man and private investigator. He was escorting a woman who reportedly had skipped a bail agreement back to the bay area. The pilot was Robert Dresser who has a law office. No one on the ground was hurt. The faa and independent tsb are investigating the cause of the crash. Some of the 14 billion whorf cargo that had been stuck on hanjin ships is moving along. Theyre scheduled to have a second ship move in later today. Another ship had been stuck outside the port until the company could raise money to pay for docking and unloading fees. Crews are working on the ship after the company came up with the money. The teen at the center of a Bay Area Police sex scandal could return to the bay area soon. The 19 year old is currently in a florida jail after being charged with attacking a Security Guard at a rehab center. A florida Prosecutor Says shes been offered a plea deal but wont give details of the deal. She has not said if she will accept the offer. The District Attorney wants her back in the bay area. Shes the key witness in the case of seven current or former local officers who Face Criminal Charges in an Alameda County sex scandal. Richmond Police Department says none of the officers committed crimes in the case. However, Department Officials say an undisclosed number of officers will be fired, reprimanded, or ordered to receive counseling because they violated department policies. The Department Says its internal investigation looked at 11 current and former officers. The city reports some officers were cleared on all counts. A San Francisco program is expanding its design to help the homeless find a job. The Work Experience program called the downtown streets team launched earlier this year in the San Francisco iveic center area while on thursday it will officially expand to union square. The goal is to help homeless into the workforce and permanent housing. The street team cleans streets and get up to 140 a week in gift cards for food and clothing along with Employment Services and case management. This program has helped me to survive everyday because there are times where i want to hang myself on are take pills or take pills and being here gives me something to look forward to. The program was founded in palo alto. Organizers say its transitioned more than 1000 people into full time jobs or stable housing.
