Now its mainly patchy. Sunshine in parts of San Francisco, which is not something they have had much of. We get some sun in the morning. Higher clouds associated with a weak system coming in spreading clouds through the north bay. This is whats going to sweep over us here. It is going to give a mix of sun and clouds here. There is still a decent little breeze. Its picking up as this system shows itself. Its pretty good for june. 50s, 60s on the temps. Peninsula temps upper 40s. Low 50s for others. We lose that low cloud deck. Temperatures cooled off. 55 truckee. 50s and 40s. Norden at 47 degrees. If you are going to the sierra, there will be possible showers, thundershowers. This system keeps us in the 60s, 70s with clouds on the way. Sal. 7 01. Friday light still, or are things picking up in. Its still a little bit slow out there, but its not quite as bad as other days of the week. Friday light a little bit out there. Lets look at what we have. Traffic is going to be busy on 80 westbound. You can see 22 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. Busy, but not stop and go. When you get to the bay bridge, there was a crowd just a few moments ago. Its going to be interesting to see if it starts to die down at the toll plaza of the bay bridge. In fact, it looks like there is about a five to tenminute delay. Better than it normally is. Highway 4 is beginning to show stopandgo traffic here as you drive through pittsburg and the west part of antioch down to about 25 miles per hour. Again there is some slow traffic. 7 02. Back to the desk. Thank you, sal. We begin with major shake up at the top of the Oakland Police department. After three years, sean whent is out as police chief. Oakland mayor libby schaaf will talk in a News Conference about two hours from now at 9 00. Christian kafton joins us from police headquarters. Cristian, its unclear whether he resigned or was forced out. Reporter yeah. At this point there is some conflicting stories about that. If you take a look here, we are here at Oakland Police headquarters. You might have been able to hear that person driving behind us who said another one bites the dust, apparently commenting on the ouster of chief sean whent as police chief after three years on the job. The deputy chief is now the interim chief. The mayor will be olding a News Conference to address the change in leadership. A source is telling ktvu he was fired. The Bay Area News Group is reporting that mayor schaff has been angry over Sexual Misconduct allegations against four Police Officers accused of sexual contact with the underage daughter of a police dispatcher. City officials have not confirmed that at this point. Whent has been with the Oakland Police department for 20 years. He took over in 2015. People who live and work in oakland are weighing in on what they would like to see in a new, permanent Replacement Police chief. They would like to see more oversight of officers on the job. Definitely better control over, like, you know, subordinates or the people that are under him. You know, the officers and stuff like that. He needs to focus now on no more corruption of the Police Officers. No more corruption. Reporter whent has issued a statement which reads in part, i am so proud to have served over the 20 years of my over the course of my two decade long career. When i took this job three years ago as interim chief, i vowed to help move the department forward and make oakland safer by forging a stronger relationship with members of this community. I am proud to have done that. Over the last year, there has been a marked decrease in oaklands crime rate, including the homicide rate. Earlier yesterday it was announced that no charges will be filed in that Sexual Misconduct case involving Police Officers in oakland and the underage daughter of a police dispatcher. Now, officer Terrell Smith and at least one other officer lost their jobs as a result of the scandal. Two other officers remain on paid administrative leave. The accusations came to light following the suicide of an officer last fall. Officials say there was insufficient evidence to file charges in the case. Sean whent is the Second Police chief to resign in the past month. Greg suhr stepped down. His resignation followed several recent High Profile Police shootings, including the shooting of mario woods. Toney chaplin is now in charge of the Police Department there. Tonight the warriors are looking to bounce back from a big loss in the nba finals. Game 4 is in cleveland at 6 00 tonight. The cavs blew out the warriors in game 3 on wednesday 12090. If the warriors win tonight, they will come back to oracle arena with a chance to win the title at home on monday. Now, there are several watch parties for warriors fans in the bay area tonight. In San Francisco crews will be setting up a big screen in front of city hall. Tonights party will include family activities like a free throw contest. Bigger point, food trucks. The other exciting thing, the stanley cup finals coming back to san jose for game 6 because the sharks fought off pittsburg last night. They beat the penguins 42 in game 5. It was a wild first period. That goal was the first time the sharks have scored first in all of the series. Logan couture added another goal. Then pittsburg tied it up with two goals in 22 seconds. Then carlson found the net to give the sharks a 32 lead. They would not give up. The big story, sharks goalie martin jones. The sharks were out shot by the penguins but he stopped 44 of those shots. Five to ten minutes. A little bit of a delay on the richmond bridge, san mateo and dumbarton bridge. Down to 26 miles an hour on westbound highway 4 as you drive over the hill to baypointe in concord. 680 is crowded through walnut creek. 24 looks good to the tunnel. At 7 19 lets go to steve. The Ridesharing Company will now let uber x riders in seattle to schedule rides as much as 30 days ahead of time and eventually allow all of the users in the city to do the same. We want to take you live to louisville, kentucky this morning. Ma funeral procession is just getting underway. They just loaded the casket into the hearse. Its going to travel 20 miles for muhammad ali, traveling through his own town louisville, kentucky. He planned his own memorial. Thousands of people have been lining up the streets along that route. The procession will pass by alis childhood home. It will also go by his first boxing gym where he trained. A lot of emotional moments and connections there. And after the final journey through his hometown, the champ will be buried in a private ceremony. It will be followed by an interfaith Memorial Service. Again, these are live pictures as the procession gets underway. He planned all of this himself. He wanted it to be very inclusive. Here we are on the i am sorry, on highway 4. Some of the slow traffic here just seen on a friday light when everyone else is partaking in some fry light, highway 4 is not, unfortunately. You see some slow traffic there coming through as you drive through the area. We are also looking at eastshore freeway here, and the traffic is backed up a little bit from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. Not a bad commute. Only taking about 28 minutes, which for this commute is pretty good. Lets go to the bay bridge toll plaza, and you can see traffic here, it is backed up a little bit. You will see some slow traffic in some of those middle lanes. And 880 southbound in hayward some slow traffic. 238. Pockets of slow traffic to the fremont area. San mateo and dumbarton bridge traffic is moderate. This morning authorities are out in force in burlingame looking to reduce the number of train dallas involving cars and pedestrians. Ktvu fox 2s alex savidge live at the Broadway Burlingame crossing where authorities are sending a strong message about rail safety. Good morning. Reporter good morning to you. This is a real trouble spot on the peninsula. We are at the broadway crossing in burlingame. Part of the reason is, is that cal trains, during the week, they do not stop at this station. So they are just coming through here at full speed, and thats why you have caltrain, transitly, Burlingame Police out in force at this spot this morning. They are trying to make sure that people stay safe near the tracks and do not stop on the train tracks because of the fact that the trains are coming through here so fast. This morning two teams of officers are patrolling each side of the tracks to make sure cars and people stay clear when trains are coming through, and already this morning we have seen a number of drivers being pulled over. This Enforcement Effort coincides with International Level crossing awareness day. Caltrain is making a big push to reduce the number of cars and people being struck by trains on the peninsula. So far this year seven people have been killed in train crashes involving caltrain. Last year caltrain says they started to see a spike in collisions between trains and cars, especially along this corridor, and thats the reason that, again, you have a major Enforcement Effort underway this morning. You can see a number of officers again from the Sheriffs Office and Burlingame Police out here this morning. They will continue this Enforcement Effort until 9 00 this morning. They will be doing the same thing, brian, during the afternoon commute between 3 00 and 6 00. Thank you. A San Joaquin County nurse is being hailed a hero after she rushed to help two people stuck in the path of an on coming train. She saw an suv veer off a highway near manteca wednesday night. The suv went down an embankment and ended up on the train tracks. She rushed over, got the passenger out as an ace train was speeding towards them. They had seconds to pull the driver out before the train struck the car. You think, like, okay, this is gonna hurt. Its gonna hit me. Nothing did except a little debris. The injured driver is expected to make a full recovery. No one was hurt. In the brock turner case, Court Documents show that the evidence that prosecutors claim contradicted the experience happened his inexperience with the Party Culture of college. The documents include these photographs of turner holding a bong and appearing to be smoking marijuana. They were recovered by investigators from turners phone. They also discovered Text Messages of turner talking about drug use and drinking while he was still in high school back in ohio. Prosecutors submitted these materials when they asked for a stiffer sentence, saying that the findings show that turner lied about his drug and alcohol use. The judge, aaron persky, did not comment on these claims before issuing his now controversial six month jail sentence for turner. Prosecutors asked for a six year prison sentence. A new problem is now facing judge persky. The Bay Area News Group reports that at least ten prospective jurors who opposed the sentence he gave to turner refused to serve on juries in separate cases that persky is now hearing. They said they were upset with what they believe is a too lenient sentence for turner. Later today a womens group will deliver a million signatures to the California Commission on Judicial Performance demanding that persky be removed from the bench. Vice President Joe Biden has joined in on the dialogue regarding the turner case. The Vice President wrote an open letter to the victim in response to her emotional statement during court proceedings. Vice President Biden began with, quote, i do not know your name, but your words are for seared on my soul. Words that should be required reading for men and women of all ages. Biden goes on to say, it must have been wrenching to relive what he did to you all over again, but you did it anyway in the hope that your strength might prevent this crime from happening to someone else. A san jose wrestling coach is behind bars this morning facing child molestation charges. Police arrested mark alquiza on wednesday. He is facing two counts of committing a lewd act against a teenage girl. He is a wrestling coach at san joses independence high school. So far there is no word on what led up to the coachs arrest. A group of physicians is filing a lawsuit against californias new right to die law which went into effect yesterday. It allows terminally ill patients to ask for medication to end their lives. Supporters say people should have the option to die without excessive suffering. The doctors, however, filing this lawsuit say they have treated patients who thought they were close to death when they actually werent. New this morning more debris that could be from missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370 has been found. A local resident was searching for driftwood when he spotted the debris off the Southern Coast of australia. Right along this coastline. Its from overseas. Yeah, stuff travels a long way. Meanwhile, three pieces of debris were found by an american off east coast of madagascar. They were spotted by the same man who found a part from Malaysia Flight 370 off mozambique. The plane vanished with 239 people on board. A new federal report says the faa needs to do a better job overseeing airport Fire Departments. A crash victim was killed after being run over by a fire truck. That follows an audit of 11 Fire Departments, and the faa Inspector General concluded that the agency needs to increase its regulations in three major areas. Basic training, equipment, and maintenance. Neither of the San Francisco Fire Department nor sfo would comment on that report, but experts say it could lead to changes for airport Fire Departments across the country. It happened late yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of the soren Dale Recreation Center near west tennyson avenue. Police say one person was injured in that gunfire, which involved people in two different cars. The shooting stunned many people who were there watching a Little League game nearby. I heard the bang, bang, bang, bang back and forth. I came out here and saw two cars speeding away. Two groups of people got involved in a shooting. They left the scene. We stopped the vehicle. Inside that vehicle was a person suffering from a gunshot wound. At this point there is no word on the condition of the shooting victim. Police say the shooting suspect sped away from the scene in a white fourdoor sedan. In oakland, the abduction of three teenage girls is being investigated as a case of human trafficking. All three girls were rescued during raids this week. The victims are 14, 15, and 16 years old. Officers arrested two suspects. Police say they were tipped off by a witness who saw the man grabbing one of the girls on a street on wednesday. They are now looking for any additional victims and suspects who may be involved. San Leandro Police say a 14 yearold was held up at gunpoint. You might not believe this. Robbed of his new puppy. It happened this week. Investigators released pictures of that German Shepherd puppy named maia in hopes somebody recognizes her. Police say the teenager was walking maia about 8 30 and officers say he was approached by two men in their 20s. One of them pulled out a gun and demanded the boy give them the threemonthold German Shepherd. The suspects took off in a lightcolored car. If you have seen the puppy, you are urged to call san Leandro Police. 7 48. Its the brawl that continues to make rounds on the internet this morning, and it involves singer Justin Bieber. Now, it happened on wednesday night after game 3 of the nba finals. Tmz posted this video of the singer at the westin hotel in cleveland. You can see a man throwing a punch at biebers head. They ended up on the ground. Its still unclear how the whole thing started, but witnesses claim the fight began after bieber was asked to take photos with fans. 7 48 is the time. Bart management says fares alone cannot cover the projected costs for infrastructure. If they start not work, that means the bart system shuts down. After three years, chief sean whent is out. We are going to learn more about his sudden departure in an hour from now when oakland mayor libby schaaf will hold a News Conference. Court documents released show the evidence that prosecutors claimed contradicted turners statement that the Sexual Assault happened partially as a result of his inexperience with the Party Culture of college. Now, the documents include these photographs of turner appearing to be smoking marijuana. They were recovered by investigators from turners phone. They also discovered Text Messages of turner talking about drug use and drinking while he was still in high school in ohio. Prosecutors committed these materials when they asked for a stiffer sentence, saying turner had lied about his drug and alcohol use, but the judge, aaron persky, did not comment on these claims before issuing his now controversial sixth month sentence for turner. Meantime, a new problem is facing judge persky. The Bay Area News Group reports that at least ten prospective jurors who opposed the sentence he gave to turner refused to seven on juries in separate cases that he is hearing. They say they were upset with what they believe is a too lenient sentence for turner. Later today a womens Advocacy Group will deliver nearly a million signatures to the California Commission on Judicial Performance demanding persky be removed from the bench. 8 15 now. If we go to the maps, northbound 280 had a couple of issues near 17. 85 and 101 are good alternates and we dont see any slow traffic through the area. The peninsula is good. At the bay bridge a fiveminute wait, maybe a little less than that, before you make it onto the span. The Public Transit systems are doing well. All week long we had a pretty big fog bank. Some sun for some. Some higher clouds continuing to filter over. So mixed sunshine here. A little bit of fog bank. Still parts in San Francisco. I mean, areas that were socked in the last couple of days and even had drizzle and it was gray, you get the sun today. I know by the college, north panhandle there is more sun today. Tesla defending the safety of its electric cars in response to a Just Announced government investigation. The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into reports that the palo altobased company had suspension problems with the biggest selling model. They are accused of asking owners not to disclose the problem. The electric car maker issued a statement this morning strongly denying the allegations. Tesla executives asafety is always the companys top priority. If you wanted a tesla, you might be in luck. They are now selling a cheaper version of the model s car. The palo altobased automaker says its an attempt to make the cars more affordable to more people. It starts at 66,000. The current model s is 90,000. Not as cheap as the other one that people signed up for earlier this year. Tesla says that with tax incentives and gas savings, it will have a cost of about 50,000. This morning authorities are in force in burlingame looking to reduce number of train collisions involving cars and pedestrians. Alex savidge at the Broadway Burlingame crossing this morning where authorities are sending a very strong message about rail safety. Reporter well, this is a real trouble spot for train crashes. We are at the broadway crossing here in burlingame, and thats because cal trains dont stop in this area. They are coming through at full speed, and thats why you can see caltrain Transit Police are out here. Burlingame police as well this morning, stepping up enforcement, trying to make sure that people stay safe near the tracks. This morning there are a couple of teams of officers patrolling each side of the tracks to make sure cars and people stay clear when trains are coming through here. Already we have seen a number of drivers pulled over this morning. This Enforcement Effort coincides with International Level crossing awareness day. Caltrain is making a push to try to reduce the number of cars and people being struck by trains on the peninsula. So far this year seven people have been killed in crashes with trains. Last year caltrain also saw a spike in collisions between trains and cars along this corridor, and thats why again you have this maximum Enforcement Effort underway this morning here at the broadway crossing in burlingame. Officers will be out here until 9 00 this morning during the morning commute hours making sure people stay clear of the tracks. They will also be doing the same thing this afternoon between 3 and 6 00. I am alex savidge. Ktvu fox 2 news. Well, in oakland the abduction of three teenage girls is being investigated as a case of human trafficking. All were rescued, but that happened during raids this week. The victims 14, 15, and 16 years old. Officers arrested a 21yearold man and a 22yearold woman. Police say they were tipped off by a witness who saw a man grabbing one of the girls on a street on wednesday and they are now looking for any additional victims and suspects who may be involved. Also this morning, Hayward Police are searching for suspects in the shooting that happened dangerously close to a Little League game. It happened late yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of the sorenDale Recreation Center. One person was injured in the gunfire which involved people in two different cars. The shooting stunned many people who were watching the Little League game nearby. I heard the bang, bang, bang, bang, back and forth. I came out here and saw two cars speeding away. Two groups of people got involved in a shooting. They both left the scene. We stopped the vehicle a short time away. Inside the vehicle was a person that was suffering from a gunshot wound. At this point there is no word on the condition of the shooting victim. Police say the shooting suspects sped away from the scene in a white fourdoor sedan. A san jose wrestling coach is behind bars this morning facing child molestation charges. Police arrested 34yearold mark alquiza on wednesday. He is facing two counts of committing a lewd act against a teenage girl. Investigators say the alleged victim is a 14yearold girl and also a member of the School Wrestling club. So far, there is no word on what led up to the coachs arrest. A palo alto man is facing hate crime charges in a parking dispute with a taxi driver. It happened two weeks ago near the palo alto transit center. Police say 52yearold david cerner was taken up two Parking Spaces when the victim who Police Describe as an indian man in his 40s asked him to move. Cerner got out of his car and started shouting racial slurs. When the victim tried to take a picture, cerner punched him, grabbed his phone and threw it at him. Cerner backed his car into the cab and drove way. He was arrested a short time later. This morning a magnitude 5. 2 earthquake shook eastern San Diego County overnight. Ktvu followed members of the Alameda County Narcotics Task force as they suited up yesterday and hit three homes. Authorities arrested several people linked to a Notorious Mexican Drug Cartel operating in the bay area. They arrested a man and his wife on suspicion also of a marijuana grow operation. The illegal pot trade Authorities Say can result in many innocent victims. Its an illicit drug trade. It brings people that at some point do a Home Invasion robbery. These people are around with semiautomatic assault weapons, are going to try to defend their grow. Bullets go through walls. Whats gonna happen . Who is at risk . Every Single Person on this block. These hard working people with children. Over the past three days the Narcotics Task force targeted about a dozen homes, made at least 17 arrests, and confiscated thousands of dollars worth of marijuana. A group of physicians is filing a lawsuit against californias new right to die law which went into effect yesterday. The law allows terminally ill patients to ask for medication to end their lives. Supporters say they should have the option to die without excessive suffering. The doctors say they have treated patients who thought they were close to death when they werent. Many of them come to us with a preconceived notion that they are going to be in terrible pain and that the outlook is terrible and they only have a couple of months or a year to live, and it turns out that they have been reading the wrong books or hearing the wrong things. If its something they feel they are going to really suffer and they dont want their family to suffer with them, then they might be able to make that choice to take the medication. Under the new law, patients have to be diagnosed as having six months or less to live and ask for the prescription on three separate occasions. The patient also has to be able to take the medication on their own. A new federal report on the asiana plane crash three years ago says the faa needs do a better job when it comes to overseeing airport Fire Departments. You will remember one of the Crash Victims was killed after being run over by a fire truck. The report follows an audit of 11 Fire Departments. The faa Inspector General concluded the agency needs to increase its regulations in three major areas, those being basic training, equipment, and maintenance. The governor and tomorrow democratic lawmakers reached a budget deal yesterday with additional funding for low income children. It increases funding for subsidized child care and eliminates restrictions er for funding for families on welfare who have another child. It includes 400 million for housing instruction and 2 billion in the reserve fund. California now has 6. 7 billion in that fund. Lawmakers must forefit their pay if they dont approve a budget by wednesday. Voters in three bay area counties will be asked in november to approve a 3. 5 billion bond measure for bart. Ridership has increased with more than 420,000 trips every weekday, but bart management says fares alone cannot cover projected infrastructure cost. Money would pay for upgrades including 90 miles of track and replacing barts entire electrical system. We have track circuittry over four decades old. If they start to not work, that means the bart system shuts down. The bond none would go to modernizing the train control system, waterproofing train tunnels, and renovating bart train stations. The 30yearold bond would be a property tax in San Francisco, alameda, contra costa counties. Average cost to homeowners would range from 39 to 52 a year. A group of students is packing up for a mission to panama early next week. They will be delivering badly needed medical supplies to People Living in remote villages of that Central American country. The 34 student volunteers are part of a National Nonprofit Organization Called global brigades. They learned from past experience medical supplies are not the only things in short supply. They dont have toothpaste. We will bring a whole bunch of hygiene kits, simple stuff thats going to hopefully make an impact in their daily life. A local resident was searching for driftwood on Kangaroo Island when he spotted the debris off the Southern Coast of the australia.
