Fans we spoke with this morning say last nights game was incredible, but their eyes are already on the playoffs. I hope that they can win the postseason in 20 games. Only lose four games through it. So many people at oracle last night, including three Oakland High School students who were there to witness nba history thanks to good grades and draymond green. Warriors forward said he got the idea on monday to do Something Special for three students. So he bought six tickets. One for each student plus a guest. Green told the schools he wanted an essay contest and the writers needed to be Good Students and needed to have overcome adversity. One of the wins students, he came from new orleans to live with relatives after Hurricane Katrina left his family home owners. Without those things that happened to me, i wouldnt be who i am today. I come with the experience that i will never change ever in my life. Another essay winner grew up in a refugee camp on the ivory coast before moving here when he was five. At first he struggled with english. Now he has the highest grade point average on his basketball team. The third student was travon. He was not available to talk to us. There were two major stories in the nba last night. The warriors winning their 73rd game, of course, and a legend lacing it up for the final time. Kobes got the lakers last tip. Bryant for three. Now the warriors record breaking performance and kobes last game caused a stir on social media. There were so many people tweeting about kobe and steph that twitter experienced service problems. The lakers even apologized and said that kobe got too hot for the twitter servers. The outage lasted about 15 minutes and a firm that tracks downed Service Received 2,500 complaints. People sitting courtside at staples last night got a bunch of special mementos for kobes last game, including a hat and tshirt. There was a kobe bryant action figure that turns into a radio operated helicopter. But take a good look. A lot of people noticing this toy does not really look like kobe. Mustache. Headband. We move to developing news we have had through mornings on 2. New reports of damage after a strong earthquake hit southern japan. We are understanding some people may be trapped underneath collapsed houses. The usgs upgraded the quakes magnitude to 6. 2. That 6. 2 has been followed by a number of aftershocks. Strong ones, including a magnitude 6 just about an hour ago. The quakes are centered near tamana near the East China Sea highlighted there by the epicenter mark. They happened at 9 30 p. M. Local time in japan. This morning we have been getting pictures and these videos coming into the newsroom showing some of the early damage reports to the area. We have been seeing a lot of bottles off Grocery Store shelves. People in their homes saying my windows cracked, my walls cracked. A lot of this thrown off the shelves. At this point we understand one building has been reported to be collapsed. We understand people are being treated at hospitals. Five people we know have serious injuries, and there are reports again some people may be trapped in the rubble of a building. We will stay on top of this developing news. The headline here a 6. 2 earthquake in japan. We do know, however, there was no risk of a tsunami, and that was the early news out there morning. Reading into it, it was a shallow earthquake. Just seven miles deep. You know, it was very powerful and a lot of witnesses reported about 30 seconds of violent shaking. Also new this morning, Fairfield Police closed down streets and issued a sheltner place overnight as they searched for a suspect in a deadly shooting. Investigators say Kyle Matthew Amos shot and killed a 28year old fairfield resident at a parking lot last wednesday morning. Detectives searched the home last night looking for amos. A s. W. A. T. Team responded as backup. For hours Police Closed off the area of stevens and james streets near highway 22012. Amos fled before they arrived. He is considered armed and dangerous. A backlash over a North Carolina law which restricts which bathrooms transgender people can use. Ringo starr, the latest artist to cancel a concert there. Similar laws have been proposed in South Carolina and tennessee. Observers say the laws appear to be a response to the Supreme Court rule that legalized same sex marriage across the country last year. But there are signs of change, as in kentucky where the state just approved a new marriage license form for both gay and straight customers. Meanwhile, San Francisco commune any says it may drop out of an annual competition for bus drivers to be held in North Carolina next month. The chronicle reports muni is considering withdrawing even though San Francisco is the current defending titleholder. The city has already banned all nonessential travel to North Carolina over the transgender bathroom bill. The south bay, the owner of a body shop is facing charges of Insurance Fraud. Juan carlos ortiz owns carlos body shop in san jose. Investigators say he, his wife and six other people took part in an Insurance Scheme in which he allegedly staged crashes and filed false claims. Through an anonymous tip, the silicone valley Fraud Task Force discovered they bought Insurance Coverage under fake names and addresses and reported crashes along highway 17 and through Santa Clara County. We have evidence that suggests that the accidents never occurred. It was coordinated lies for the purpose of getting paid out for the insurance claims. Investigation say Insurance Fraud affects everyone as all drivers end up paying higher premiums. All the suspects are due in court next month. Ortiz paces up to 31 years in prison. Santa clara county deputies have stopped a counterfeit operation that spanned that county. Authorities say eric aspden, the illegal operation out of the condo he lease inside cupertino. Investigators say he used easily available equipment, including a laptop, 100 cotton paper, and paper cutters to make the fake 20 bills. They say he shipped the bills to buyers really across the country. Officials say the fakes are close to the real thing, but if you look closely at Andrew Jacksons hair on the fake bill, the detail is a little blurry. That was enough for businesses in virginia to contact police, who worked with investigation in the south bay. Mr. Aspden alone was responsible for the shipment of upwards of 2,000 packages a year of counterfeit currency linked to 30 different states. Investigators say aspden never dried to use the bills himself. Now they are targeting the people who bought the fake money from him and some of those people are right here in the bay area. Aspden is being held in the Santa Clara County jail while officials decide whether he will face trial here or in fairfax, virginia. Another story we have been following through mornings on 2 is a proposal by amc theaters to allow texting in Movie Theaters. The ceo is saying you cant ask millennials to turn off their phones. He says its like chopping the arm off at the elbow. Its a movie to get people into the theaters, younger people. What do you think . The idea of setting up texting zones in a theater. Sailors took photos and videos as the jets flew over several times. They say at some points those russian jets were just 30 feet away from the ship. Russian helicopter also circled the ship and took closeup photos of the flight deck. The u. S. Military did not respond to the incident, and two former u. S. Defense secretaries say that could encourage Vladimir Putin to become even bolder. He is something that, if you dont deal with him from strength, hell try to take advantage of you. Thats the way he operates. He is very opportunistic and, frankly, i think if resisted, will stop. Last november turkey, which is a member of nato, shot down a russian fighter jet when it flew too low to the Turkish Border with syria. Russia has not breached turkish airspace since then. The city of San Francisco is being offered almost 3. 5 to settle planes associated with the deadly plane crash at sfo three years ago. The boeing 777 clipped the seawall at end of the runway causing the plane to cartwheel and burst into flames. The money goes towards legal costs, airport damages and compensation for the citys insurance company. Three teenage girls died in that crash. U. S. Safety investigators blame the crash on pilot error. Proposed financial settlement will need approval from the board of supervisors. The panama government raided the law firm accused of Money Laundering for highprofile international clients. It lasted more than a day. There not been any arrests so far. The socalled Panama Papers scandal came to light earlier this month when an anonymous source released 11 million documents that embarrassed clients at the law firm, including friends of russian president Vladimir Putin, the president of argentina, and the father of british Prime Minister david cameron. The government of panama is looking for evidence of wrongdoing. People accused say they have done nothing wrong, but protesters rallied saying the entire episode makes all of panama look bad. A 18yearold woman used a periscope app to live stream a man sexually assaulting her 17 yearold friend. A man started sexually assaulting a 17yearold and the friend used periscope to broadcast it on the internet. Well, someone in another state who saw the live stream called the police. Now the man and that woman face charges that could send them to prison for many years. The fbi is now joining the investigation into the search for a missing twoyearold girl whose mother was found dead last week in a San Francisco park. The fbi says no one has seen Arianna Fitts since april 1. The body of her mother was found friday in mclaren park. Agents say nicole fitts and her daughter spent time in San Francisco, san mateo, santa cruz, oakland, and emeryville. The Organization Justice for Mario Woods Coalition, they want a civil rights investigation of San Francisco police. Coalition members stood on city hall steps yesterday saying the deaths of mario woods, amilcar perezlopez, and alex nieto are a camp of examples of excessive use of force by the police. They say an under pent investigation is needed to determine if there is a pattern of discrimination within the department. In a letter sent to state attorney general pamela harris, it point today a set of racist and homophobic texts by police officers. We cannot have a criminal Justice System that is tainted by racism that can be accepted by the community and can be won that works. The letter says a Justice Department review is a step in the right direction, but its not enough. Since it can only make non binding recommendations. The ceo says he is trying to he is willing to try out the idea. At least thats what he told variety magazine. As we go to video, in that interview with variety, the ceo says he thinks millennials could be better served at a theater. He told the magazine, quote, you cant tell a 22yearold to turn off their cell phone. Thats just not how they live their life. Aaron told variety that some of the possibilities to catering too millennials in the theater perhaps having sections of a theater where texting and using a cell phone is allowed or having the entire auditorium or theater text friendly. He told variety he would like to see millennials go to the Movie Theater with the same intensity as baby boomers did during their lives. He brought up the idea of having textfriendly Movie Theaters this morning and they didnt like it. I wouldnt like it at all. Usually, i wouldnt be an amc customer if that happened. Maybe i am showing my age. I am not a millennials. A lot of kids, they are so used to being enter taped and quick, quick entertained and quick, quick, quick, quick. Have a conversation and not have to be on the phone at the same time. I mean, thats really sad. Reporter the statement from amc says it has been reported that amc is in the earliest stage of explores an option of someday having a limited number of texting friendly auditoriums. However, given that so many of todays moviegoers are passionate about the undisturbed theaters, there is no specific timeframe as to when we might introduce such a test if will. As we talk it back here, this is part of a Bigger Picture for amc and many Movie Theaters across the country. They have done that. And as you pointed out, steph curry 402 threes. He had a record 386 last year. He almost did it before the first half was over. He played 79 games this year. That means he is a little over five threes made per game. Klay thompson ended up with 276. The its remarkable what this team has done. But they want to win the championship. Their big goal was to get the number one seed. They did that. Now the goal is to win the clipper. Jim, i love the threepoint shot. But there was a play yesterday that i loved even more. It was a pass from Andre Igodala to steph curry in the paint. He a couple of layups in the paint. I love the designed plays. Is this team compared to last years team, are they smarter players . What did the coaches learn from last year . They are a great threat from the outside. If you notice their offense, they have a high post offense. Andrew bogut plays up top. A terrific up tomorrow. And not the same skill set, but up high a lot. So it leaves the middle open. And everything for steve curry is pass, cut, move without the ball, hit the open man, and cut to be a scorer. I wanted them to finish 410. No team has done that. They finished 392 at home. They won 34 road games, which is an nba record. I was determined last night i told bob before the game, bob fitzgerald, i want to see this First Quarter. Its going to be special. Steph curry hit six threes in the First Quarter and basically the game was over. Thats the way i wanted it to play out. Okay. Jim, you probably know by watching the warriors after the First Quarter, maybe a little bit of the second quarter, blossom hill they have have it that night or not. You have been there for the losses. What is it that the warriors need to avoid doing to have one of those clunkers . Well, in the playoffs you cant afford do that. And i think they learned from last year. They got behind two games to one in two different series against memphis and in the finals against cleveland. And so i think they have learned from that. But its a long season. Thats why its so remarkable they won 73 games and did into the lose doubledigit they lost nine games. And they were defending champs. And there was a target on their back the entire season. Most teams have a letdown. You are going to have a stretch where you lose a couple of few games. They never lost two in a row. They lose a game, it wakes them up. They love the pressure of that. They get wakeup calls and they respond. Steph curry is totally unique in what he does. His skill set and his psyche that he has. The tremendous confidence that he exudes. And that permeates through the club. And it starts with the coaching staff. It starts way up with the owners and then bob meyers, the general manager, and then steve kerr very special to have him. And you know, they sold out 17 a 5 175 straight games. Do they need to win the nba championship to be considered the greatest team of all time . I am glad you asked that. Definitely they do have to win the championship. That does not necessarily mean they are the greatest team of all time. I will say that. I think it takes a few years because i have played on a celtics team that won eight straight championships. It doesnt count because it was the 50s and 60s. It counts. I am irrelevant. When i talk to a young player. No, never. When i am talking to a young player in the league i say, you know, me talking to you is like someone talking to me when i was a rookie in 1956. I asked when did you play in the league . He said from 1916 to 1927. It puts it in perspective. Heres the deal. The celtics won all those championships. Lakers won five in the 80s. The celtics won three in the 80s as well. People want to boost paychecks of minimum wage workers nationwide. Its part of the fight for 15. About 100 new york protesters rallied in times square demanding minimum wage hikes as well as union protection. Rallies are being held in a number of cities. Everyone demanding a 15 an hour minimum wage. Here in the bay area, a few hundred people pushed their way into a Mcdonalds Restaurant on Market Street in downtown San Francisco carrying signs and chanting. Just this week Governor Brown signed a bill that will raise californias minimum wage to 15 an hour by the year 2022. But protesters say they are marking in solidarity with workers around the country and for other issues facing minimum wage earners such as affordable housing. After taking over that mcdonalds, demonstrators took to the streets and marched town Market Street to protest at other businesses. Well, its tied with the affordability crisis in San Francisco. That will help at least some of the folks to afford some of the rents in the area and stay in San Francisco. Another fight for 15 protest is planned for 2 00 this afternoon outside oakland city hall.
