at san jose where you are working up with the gray and san jose checking in at 65. livermore 60, oakland 60, upper 50s san francisco as well as santa rosa. a look at the 24 temperature change, very similar to yesterday in many spots, just a degree warmer in santa rosa, sfo a little bit cooler in areas like concord and livermore and fairfield for you as well. the low clouds, a little bit farther inland. all the way to about livermore, almost right there encroaching on fairfield, past gilroy and over on the coast once again. afternoon hours, temperatures similar to slightly cooler in the onshore -- and the onshore breeze is going to remain with us. fairfield right now 30 miles per hour so a nice push from the cool pacific. afternoon highs, upper 80s in antioch, yesterday low 90s so temperatures continuing to come down some. 79 in santa rosa. along the pennsylvania la today, 79 for -- peninsula today, 79 for you redwood city. temperatures holding steady for a little bit and back up into the back of your week. extended forecast coming up. >> thank you, rosemary. we begin in the east bay of an officer-involved shooting, happened last night in hayward. >> investigators say it was part of a wild series of events. ktvu's allie rasmus live for us in hayward to explain what happened. >> reporter: a series of events that ended up with a stolen truck crashing into this hayward residential street. 2700 gamble court, a deadend cul-de-sac here. this all started when a man came outside to see another man, a suspect stealing his truck out of his driveway, that man followed a suspect a short distance in another vehicle of his. the suspect apparently noticed he was being followed and turned around and fired at the man who was following him. he luckily was not hit but that's when police were called into enter -- in to intervene. chased that truck down to this court, 2700 gamble court, that's when police say the suspect tried to ram his vehicle into the officers. apparently the suspect driving that stolen truck ended up crashing into several other parked cars. one motorist did suffer minor injuries but that motorist is expected to be okay. however, police opened fire when they said that that suspect was trying to ram his car into their vehicle. none of the bullets hit the man, however, and that man was able to get out of the vehicle and try to run away. hayward police were able to apprehend him so he was taken into custody and the good news here is that no one was injured. back to you guys. >> allie rasmus live in hayward, thank you, allie. we have two updates on the wildfires that are making headlines. officials are hoping that by tomorrow night they can officially declare that the fire near the uc berkeley campus is 100% contained. oakland's deputy fire chief tells the bay area news group there are no active flames or any known hot spots. so-called grizzly fire broke out on wednesday in the hills. threatened the lawrence hall of science to close that night. while investigators haven't figured out the cause of this fire, they have ruled that gunshots did spark the massive detwiler fire near yosemite. there is a $2000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible. that fire began three weeks ago and burned nearly 82,000 acres along with 131 structures including 63 homes. that fire is 97% contained. time now 7:05. a san francisco woman says thieves stole something from her that can never be replaced. they took laptops and hard drive from her car with videos of her father and her and her father, by the way, is dying of cancer. she wants to get them back. liz cain's dad was diagnosed with colon cancer five years ago so she decided to document their time together. she now says he has months to live and videos are priceless to her. on june 6th she says she was in the process of moving when someone broke into her car and stole six laptops, five external hard drives that were underneath a back of clothes in the back of her car. >> him cutting roses from the garden for my mom, adventures we took to visit extended family. >> surveillance video here shows a man walking down the street at the time of the theft. the actual break-in is not on the video, though, but you can see the man leaves in a hurry with several bags. cain has hired a private investigator, put up fliers in her neighborhood and given the serial numbers of the computers to police hoping to get those videos back. >> very sad. belmont police are trying to find the person responsible for the city's first homicide of the year. a man was shot and killed inside an apartment on ralston avenue near highway 101 and the belmont train station. police were called to the apartment complex about 5:15 yesterday morning. they describe finding a chaotic scene when they arrived. officers called for backup. paramedics did try to revive the victim but was pronounced dead at the scene. neighbors say the family was overcome with grief. >> destroyed, not distraught. everybody was out here crying. it made me emotional too. >> police have not revealed the victim's identity or a possible motive to the shooting but say a preliminary investigation indicates it was an isolated incident. authorities think the shooting may have stemmed from some type of party. police shot and killed a man who officers say was armed with a knife. investigators say a resident of a home on west steel lane in santa rosa called 911 before 6:00 yesterday morning to report someone avenues the house was, quote, acting crazy and causing a big disturbance. when police arrived at the scene, officers say they found the man hiding under a bed holding what they described as a large knife. police say it made repeated attempts to get the man to drop the knife including less lethal force but he wouldn't listen. he advanced towards officers and one of them shot the man killing him. his identity has not been released. the officers were wearing body cameras at the time and police say there is video of the incident. sonoma county sheriff's department is overseeing the investigation and the officer involved in that shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave. a man in sonoma county was arrested overnight saturday in the brutal beating death of his wife. steven rothchild called 911 friday night saying he and his wife had been fighting and that she was dead. officers went to their home on amherst circle and found 67- year-old juanita rooting -- rothchild. she was severely beaten and dead on the catch. they tried to revive her but was syrian of unsuck -- but was unsuccessful. three bus routes will no longer be available. eliminating routes seven, 43 and 89 due to low ridership. the transportation agency says getting rid of the routes could save $170,000 a year. it is 7:09. coming up pre-trial motions start this week in the murder case. what you can expect as the case against an down a little bit more. what you can expect for your sunday coming up. the united nations has hit north korea with serious new sanctions, the security council passed a resolution in response to the country's continued missile testing. it targets north korea's primary exports including cole, iron -- coal, iron and lead as well as banking ventures with foreign countries. previous sanctions have not deterred north korea from further spanned its military. this new round an effort to finally stop that. >> north korea is no longer a threat faced by a single country or single region. it is instead a threat that confronts us all in a world with north korean missile tests seem routine, let me be clear, this is not business as usual. >> this is the most stringent set of sanctions on any country in a generation. these sanctions will cut deep and in doing so will give the north korean leadership a taste of the deprivation they have chosen to inflagstaff on the -- inflict on the north korean people. >> the sanctions could slash north korea's $3 billion annual exports revenue. escalating tensions by conducting military drills. president trump posted these statements to twitter about the sanctions. he said the united nations security council just voted 15- 0 to sanction north korea, china and russia voted with us. very big financial impact. the president goes on to say the united nations resolution is a single largest economic sanctions package ever on north korea over $1 billion in cost to north korea. and president trump could be set to host a group of world leaders at one of his golf clubs next month. the washington post says that the president is considering inviting several heads of state to his private golf club in new jersey. it would surround the annual u.n. general assembly meeting taking place in nearby new york city. the guest list would include french president emmanuel macron, british prime minister theresa may, and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. previously hosted the president of china at his golf club in florida earlier this year. as president trump continues his 17 day summer retreat in new jersey, there are reports he could be appointing a new communications director soon. policy aide steven miller is a candidate to lead the white house communications team after a series of personnel changes during the last couple of weeks. last week trump ousting white house communications chief anthony scaramucci only after 10 days on the job. new numbers in the united nations shows an increase in migrant deaths along the u.s.- mexico border. the u.n. found more than 200 migrants have died in the past seven months which is a 17% increase from last year. the u.n. cites the increase of deaths to factors like hot weather and faster water flow in the rio grande river. the data also comes after 50 bodies were found in july alone including 10 discovered in a truck in san antonio, texas. let's switch gears now, talk a little weather. it's a little bit cooler. >> it is cooler. >> a nice trend, especially when you're going to bed at night in the east bay. >> i agree, yeah, so we have conditions coming down more for your sunday afternoon and then as we get into the business week, little change expected. we will have a warmup come our way by the end of it, though, giving you a view here at the oakland estuary where we are starting out with mostly cloudy skies once again this morning and as i showed you a few moments ago it's widespread with the cloud cover into the inner east bay for some. a view of the pattern in place, high pressure to the east, a low off the coast, sort of sandwiched in between so that will bring us mild weather along the coast and inside the bay and hot weather expected for our inland communities, although not too hot. we will calm it -- call it warm. the cloud cover still spilling into the portions of the north bay a little bit so in addition to that low cloud cover out there we had the mid and high level clouds that continue to just squeeze their way through the bay area as they move off to the east. giving you a view at what you can expect for today, mid-60s at the coast. we have 70s around the bay. upper 80s to near 90 degrees for our hotter spots. yesterday low 90s is about where we landed so temperatures again continuing to come down. 57 degrees in fairfield, 57 san rafael, 58 in san francisco, into the south bay, 65 in san jose. going to see the giants play later today a nice day out at the ballpark, breezy, the west wind picking up to about 20 miles per hour in the afternoon. partly cloudy skies at game time. afternoon high in san francisco about 67. 78 in sonoma. to the east bay we have a nice day for you here, 73 in oakland, 80 castro valley and some of our warmer spots, 90 degrees for brentwood in the afternoon. into san jose, 80 degrees, los gatos 84, along the peninsula for the afternoon today, 79 in redwood city, 73 in san bruno. half moon bay with partly to mostly cloudy skies expected in your areas for the entire day. giving you a view of the extended forecast here, temperatures won't change a whole lot as we get into monday. we do get to slightly warmer on tuesday with temperatures continuing to climb wednesday, thursday, back into the mid to upper 90s for our inland communities, back to the mid- 80s for our bay side communities, upper 60s at the coast so we don't lose the micro climate pattern but we go a bit down and then back up. >> at least it's cooler at night. i like that. >> frank loves that. >> that's my big deal. >> she cut herself at a stand at a family farm in sebastopol, a small cut above the knee but suddenly pain, swelling, fever and a diagnosis, flesh eating bacteria. >> a lot of people had forgotten about it. >> reporter: her airlift to intensive care and 45 days in the hospital. >> i can't put into words how proud i am of where she has come from from where she was, from her and i hearing that we might not have her anymore to all that. >> reporter: all that, a clean sweep of the sheep distributions in this -- division in this fair's livestock show. missy has raised in theodore the best lamb out of hundreds. she is humbled but thrilled achieving this goal. >> everyone tells me i can't and i can. i push myself so i try not to think back on it. all i think back on is when doctors can't me i can't when i can. >> reporter: she had 14 surgeries on her right leg, infection destroyed tissue, muscle, cartilage and her knee which braces her is bone on bone. >> she doesn't want people feeling sorry for her. >> reporter: standing after a week in the hospital, pushing through months of rehab, even returning to softball, always with her family support. >> i mean the leg thing is a big journey for all of us in the family. we kind of had to take a step back and realize how important family is to us. >> that she really had to fight to do what she was doing but she never said no and i believe in my heart she never will say no. >> reporter: by day's end, missy had picked up yet another best of class honor, grateful for the recognition just like she is grateful to the doctor who diagnosed her in time and children's hospital where she has volunteered ever since. >> things happen to people. they told me i am strong and i can do what i set my mind to. >> reporter: theodore goes up for auction this weekend and weighing 155 pounds should fetch a hefty price. as for missy, she has a year of high school and then hopes to become a paramedic so she can lives the way hers was saved. in santa >> a little muggy around here, kind of like the east coast earlier in the week. >> a lot of muggy around here. >> the monsoonal moisture is moving out, picking up a little bit over california. over the north bay, we are looking at a mostly cloudy start when it comes to the coast bay and inland but it's the low cloud cover, the cloud cover that comes in from the coast. the cloud cover that brings us the cooler weather and, yes, we will continue to cool down as we get into your afternoon. here's a view of just how far inland it is, that live shot over mount diablo, you can see the clouds floating by into livermore this morning, stretched into near fairfield and if we go north, north bay covered in it so low clouds in addition to mid and high level clouds over portions of the north bay and the onshore breeze remains with us, fairfield 30 miles per hour, and that's a good number there for our inland folks that are hoping to cool down a little bit more. futurecast model here shows you as we get into the morning hours, the low clouds will be pulling back, here we are about 11:00 or so, but notice the coast continues to be socked in pretty good. at 3:00 in the afternoon i think i see a little pool back there over areas of santa cruz and capitola, mostly cloudy for the afternoon. this stretch along ocean beach, pacifica, all our communities right in here could remain mostly cloudy throughout the entire day. half moon bay as well as san francisco, low 60s in hayward, 57 in napa, 60 degrees in livermore and san jose starting out at 65. for the afternoon, san jose, will go to 80. 75 expected in hayward, low 70s in oakland, we've got the peninsula with beautiful weather coming your way, 76 in san mateo, north bay, 79 expected for santa rosa and our hotter spots tend to be the inner east bay. temperatures not going to change a whole lot as we get back to work on monday but we have a warmup in the extended forecast and i'll show you that coming up in just a little bit. >> thanks, rosemary. a hayward police officer shot at a stolen car suspect last night. >> that incident involved a stolen truck crashing into several parked cars on a neighborhood street. ktvu's allie rasmus reports from the neighborhood on what happened. >> reporter: this is the deadend street where that stolen truck ended up, the 2700 block of gamble court. one driver had minor injuries when that stolen truck crashed into several other parked cars in this area but apparently that driver is expected to be okay. this all started around 5:00 yesterday afternoon, according to hayward police when a man saw another man steal his truck out of his driveway. the man followed the suspect in another vehicle, suspect noticed he was being followed by the man and then police say turned around and fired at the man. that man wasn't hurt, wasn't struck but that's when he called police. hayward police intervened. they followed the suspect and that stolen truck down this street, 2700 block of gamble court and police say the suspect then tried to ram his vehicle into the other officers so that's when the officers opened fire, they did not hit or strike the suspect. the suspect was able to get out of the car and tried to run away on foot. however, the officers were able to apprehend him. no one was injured in this and the suspect is now in police custody. in hayward, allie rasmus, ktvu channel two morning news -- ktvu fox 2 news. a professor facing murder charges out of chicago set to appear in court in the bay area tomorrow. 42-year-old wyndham lathem had an extradition hearing set for monday. associate professor, microbiology and immunology at northwestern university in illinois. he along with this man, another professor out of oxford university are accused of killing 26-year-old trenton cornell duranleau at his chicago apartment on july the 27th. pre-trial motions set for tomorrow in the case of the undocumented immigrant accused of killing kate steinle. 54-year-old juan francisco low pressure system sanchez -- lopez is charged with first- degree murder. the judge will hear legal motions tomorrow. 32-year-old steinle was walking with her dad and a family friend along the waterfront in july of 2015 when a bullet struck her in the back, killing her. the public defender represented lopez sanchez says it's not unusual for homicide cases to experience delays. >> there are a variety of issues like there have been some documents subpoenaed to the court and the question is what kind of disclosures the court has to make and whether or not the opposing parties get to know what each is sort of trying to obtain. >> lopez sanchez had been deported five times before the shooting. a trial date hasn't been scheduled yet but jury selection is expected to take place in about a week. moraga, the city of moraga will hold a special meeting tuesday to talk about the town's fiscal emergency. the town declared a fiscal emergency to help fix problems caused by that massive sinkhole that opened up last year on ream boulevard and it is still there. the town council says the sinkhole along with the closure of a bridge on canyon road in april has cost the town $5 million leaving $1.5 million in the reserves. tuesday's meeting is open to the public and people can submit questions ahead of time. it starts at 6:00 p.m. in the council chambers. novato high school is confident it's going to field enough players for the upcoming varsity football season. practice officially begins tomorrow. this is video of the underclass men. we caught up with some of the varsity players that were tossing the football around the school parking. petitioned last week to cancel the season because of a lack of players. the announcement created a community uproar and administrators now believe they will have about 20 or more players tomorrow. >> i have been here for two years now and i don't want to be switching schools. i have made tons of friends, all of that and i don't want to start fresh. >> the novato high hornets reached the division two state championship game a decade ago and while it may be a few years before the school gets that kind of success again, the current students say they want more time to spend with their friends and play the sport they love. the first game is set to happen in 20 days. a family of four in santa rosa is being held this morning after a fire burned their apartment building. that fire started just after 8:45 last night on west avenue. firefighters say they were able to get the flames under control in minutes and they think that fire may have been caused by an overloaded or damaged electrical cord. firefighters say the building manager cut his foot trying to put that fire out before they arrived but no one else was hurt. the family that lives in the apartment was not home at the time. search and rescue efforts for those three u.s. marines missing off the east coast of australia has ended in a new statement from the marine base in japan, quote, operations have now shifted to recovery efforts. three marines went missing after their off spray you see here in the -- 23 were recovered safely. this is the 12th noncombat military crash this year alone. and today marks 72 years since the atomic bomb of hiroshima. the u.s. dropped the u.s. bomb on hiroshima during the final days of world war ii. the city marked the 1945 attack with a ceremony. hiroshima held a moment of silence to remember the 140,000 people killed in that bombing. the anniversary comes after japan sided last month with nuclear powers, britain, france, the united states to dismiss a u.n. treaty banning atomic weapons. and last night the eiffel tower was evacuated after a man tried to get past security with a knife. paris police said he tried to force his way past guards at the tower shortly before closing. that's a live look at the evil tower in -- eiffel tower in paris this afternoon their time. security detained the man and evacuated and closed the tower early for the night. the tower has reopened to visitors on this sunday afternoon. record setting enrollment class expected to attend city college in san francisco this fall. enrollment up 17% since it was announced that tuition would now be free. the free city program will cost close to $6 million, is being paid for with an increase in the real estate transfer tax. to qualify students must live in the city and must have lived in california for more than a year. residents still do have time to sign up for the fall semester and classes, they start in two weeks. an east bay community came together to step up to help a paralyzed san ramon high school graduate with his plans for college. local high school football teams came together yesterday to play football and raise money for jake javier. he fractured his spine the day before graduation last year and was left paralyzed from the neck down. after a year of recovery and therapy, he will be going to cal poly in san luis obispo. the money will help pay for the kind of help he will need outside and inside the classroom. >> jake is exceptional student, very bright, he wants to go into research that will somehow make a dent in spinal cord research and he's one of those kids that you just need to invest in. >> pretty special to see everyone come together and be able to have some friendly competition together but it's great. i'm feeling pretty blessed. >> jake injured himself when he dove into a pool and hit his head on the bottom of that pool. his family is hoping to raise $100,000 for medical expenses i'll line those up for you and have the extended forecast coming up. >> a little of the boss on sunday. good stuff. caltrain fares and parking fees going up in less than two months. starting on october 1st, fares will go up by a quarter. monthly parking prices increasing. and the discounted eight ride ticket will be eliminated. then on january 1st the price of the go pass will rise from $190 to $237. caltrain says the price increases are needed to pay the rising cost of keeping that system operating. gm is recalling 700,000 chevy and gmc pickup trucks because of a possible steering problem. the company says the vehicles may have a software glitch that could lead to a 1-second loss of power for the steering assist feature. and that could interfere with a steering maneuver and lead to an accident. the vehicles under the recall are the 2014 chevy silverado and gmc sierra trucks. they can be taken to a dealer for a free software fix. well, a new study says many teens these days are using their cell phones to cheat while in class. according to the santa cruz sentinel, mcafee surveyed nearly 4000 high school students here in the u.s., australia, canada and the u.k., 29% of the students in the united states admitted to using tech devices to cheat while in school but more than twice as many said they know of classmates who have cheated with phones or other devices. the study also found that 31% of teens say they can get around internet restrictions at school to access band content online. for more -- more information coming out about plans to build a tourist destination for marijuana smokers. last week we reported a marijuana investment company called american green is in the process of buying a tiny town in san bernardino county near the nevada border. it has a population of 20 people. american green reportedly bought this 80-acre community for $5 million. an executive envisioned a first of its kind pot based tourist destination that would feature shops, restaurants, a hotel and an open dispensary. residents are already volunteering their services. >> i hope that i can be a benefit. i wouldn't mind being an edible food taster, you know, bobcat was brought to a wild care facility in san rafael. staffers determined it was only a month old and dehydrated but otherwise was in pretty good shape. it was sent to sierra wildlife rescue to grow up with two other bobcat kittens and released in the fall when it grows up a bit. finding a bobcat kitten this young is unusual since they almost always stay in the den with their mother at that crews. right now 100% containment there. >> now the big focus is trying to figure out what caused that fire. arson has not been ruled out but it could take a few weeks to figure out exactly what started those flames. and remembering one of the most significant events of the past century. today marks 72 years since an atomic bomb was dropped on hiroshima, japan. >> several ceremonies happening today in japan to remember over 100,000 people who were killed that day. we are going to take a look at that event and the relevance today with tensions rising not too far away along the korean peninsula. and a new star wars attraction coming to disneyland just in time for the holiday season. they are so smart at disney. this time you can travel to a galaxy far, far away in virtual reality. with it. 57 degrees in santa rosa right now, 58 in san francisco, low 60s in oakland to start your morning. livermore 63 and san jose 66. the marine layer depth about 1500 feet so a little bit deeper than yesterday and because of it, the clouds a little bit more widespread into livermore along 580, you can see it there and then through the delta and near fairfield this morning with the robust onshore breeze to about 30 miles per hour. it has dropped to 28. but in any event it is enough to bring us that cool air and enough to push those clouds all the way inland this morning. concord reporting a southwest breeze to about 13. going to see the giants play today, going to be a nice one at at&t park, partly cloudy skies, 66 degrees at game time with a west wind about 20 miles per hour so it will be a little bit breezy at the park. upper 60s in the forecast for the afternoon in san francisco, 73 in oakland, 86 expected in concord and in the south bay 80 degrees for you, san jose even our warmer spots areas like antioch, 89 degrees the high expected for you today. temperatures won't change a whole lot as we get back to work on monday but we have a heatup coming back our way in the extended forecast. i'll detail that coming up. 8:03 your time. shot at a stolen car suspect last night who is accused of trying to run them over. the incident ended on gamble court near cal state east bay. a man first reported someone stolen his truck. the victim got into another car and tailing the suspect who then shot but then missed him. police arrived on the scene and started chasing after that same suspect. investigators say he crashed into several vehicles and slightly injured one of the drivers. suspect then drove towards felice, causing the officer to shoot at the suspect who was not hit. authorities caught the suspect after a brief foot chase. this morning we have updates on two wildfires that are making headlines. officials are hoping that by tomorrow night they can officially declare that the fire near the uc berkley campus is 100% contained. oakland's deputy fire chief says there are no active flames. they do not know of any hot spots. it's been called the grizzly fire. it broke out wednesday in the headlines above cal. the threat of that blaze did force lawrence berkeley national laboratory and the lawrence hall of science to close that night. investigators still haven't figured out the cause of that fire. however, they have ruled gunshots sparked the massive detwiler fire near yosemite and now a $2000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible. that fire began three weeks ago and burned nearly 82,000 acres along with the 131 structures including 63 homes. the fire is 97% contained. san francisco woman says thieves stole something from her that she can never replace, they took a laptop, a couple laptops hard drives from her car of videos of her fire who is dying of cancer. liz kain's father was diagnosed with colon cancer so she decided to document their time together and he only has months to live. she was in the process of moving when someone broke into her car, stole six laptops, five external hard drives that were underneath a bag of clothes in the back of her car. >> things like him cutting roses from the garden for my mom, every birthed, every holiday, adventures we took, a train trips across the country to visit extended family. >> surveillance video shows a man walking down the street at the time of the theft. the actual break-in is not on the video but you can see the man leaves in a hurry with several bags in hand there. kain hired a private investigator but put up fliers in the neighborhood and given the serial numbers of the computers to the police hoping to get the videos back. belmont police trying to find the person responsible for the city's first homicide of the year. a man was shot and killed inside an apartment on ralston avenue near highway 101 and the belmont train station. police were called to the apartment complex about 5:15 yesterday morning. they described finding a chaotic scene when they arrived. officers called for backup including deputies from the san mateo county sheriff's office. paramedics tried to revive the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene. neighbors say the victim's family was overcome by grief. >> was right here on my step, the person's mom was sitting here crying, my baby, my baby, moy baby. -- moy -- my baby. this is somebody's precious angel. >> police have not revealed a possible motive to the shooting but say a preliminary investigation indicates it was an isolated incident. the shooting may have stemmed from some type of party. now up to the north bay where police shot and killed a man who officers say was armed with a knife. investigators say a resident on -- at a home on west steel lane in santa rosa called 911 just before 6:00 yesterday morning to report someone at the house was, quote, acting crazy and causing a disturbance. so when police arrived at the scene, officers say they found the man hiding under a bed holding what they described as a large knife. police say they made repeated attempts to get him to drop the knife, including less lethal force but he wouldn't listen. police say the suspect then advanced towards officers and one of them shot the man killing him. his identity has not been released. the officers were wearing body cameras and police say there is video of the incident. sonoma county sheriff's department overseeing the investigation and the officer involved in that shooting and that has been placed now on paid administrative leave. a man in sonoma county was arrested overnight saturday. the brutal beating death of his wife. 72-year-old steven rothchild called 911 friday night saying he and his wife had been fighting and she was dead. officers went to their home on amherst circle in the boys hot springs community and found 67- year-old juanita rothchild, she was severely beaten and dead on the couch. they did try unsuccessfully to resuscitate her. the husband is being held at sonoma county jail without bail. starting today, three samtrans bus routes will no longer be available. eliminate routes 11, 43 and 89 because of low ridership. samtrans says only between five and 10 people use those routes every day. the transportation agency says getting rid of the routes could save $170,000 a year. happening now, it is an event that combines a children's toy with endless imagination. >> yeah. people from all around the country are gathered in the south bay for an exhibition featuring lego blocks. ktvu's allie rasmus joins us live at santa clara convention center to tell us about the 2017 bricks by the bay. hi, allie. >> reporter: yes, we are inside the exhibition hall of the santa clara convention center for the bricks by the bay convention and this is what you see when you step through the doors, a huge ballroom full of original lego creations. now, anyone who has worked with legos before, you know that you get the little packet with the instructions and it gives you the step-by-step directions to make everything. these are creations that people made on their own, no instruction, all original creations here and it's a little bit of a competition too. you can see there's about a dozen different categories and later today they will have a judging event to see who wins different categories, most original creation, most complex creation and you can see for yourself some of the creations out here, original creations are pretty mind-boggling, pretty fantastic. this looks luke a rep -- looks like a replica of 55 central park west, skyscrapers here. people around the country and even around the world who come to compete in this event and come to see the amazing creations here. you can see this table we are showing you, this is from the bay area lego users group. i was talking to one of the volunteers here. he says this particular group, lego group, lego organization here locally, their youngest member is 4 years old and their oldest member is 85 years old so it spans generation. what caught my eye over there, it's a caltrain train going around the tracks here. so a little bit of local flavor there. but from 9:00 a.m., vips are being allowed in right now but general public from 9:00 a.m. until about 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, anyone can come in to take a look at some of the amazing creations out here. we are being told admission is $20 a this morning the united nations has hit north korea with new sanctions. the security council passed a resolution in response to that country's continued missile testing. it targets north korea's primary exports, that includes coal, iron and lead, as well as banking ventures with foreign companies. previous sanctions have not deterred north korea in further expanding its military and this new round is an effort to finally put a stop to that. >> north korea is no longer a threat faced by a single country or a single region. it is instead a threat that confronts us all in a world where north korea missile tests seem routine, let me be clear, this is not business as usual. >> this is the most stringent set of sanctions on any country in a generation. these sanctions will cut deep and in doing so will give the north korean leadership a taste of the deprivation they have chosen to inflict on the north korean people. >> now, the sanctions could slash north korea's $3 billion annual export revenue. north korea has accused of u.s. and south korea of escalating tensions by conducting military drills. president trump posted these statements to twitter about the sanctions. he said, the united nations security council just voted 15- 0 to sanction north korea, china and russia voted about us. very big financial impact. the president went on to write that the united nations resolution is the single largest economic sanctions package ever on north korea over $1 billion in cost to north korea. as president trump continues his 17 day summer retreat in new jersey, there are reports he could be appointing a new communications director again. police -- or policy aide stephen miller is a candidate to lead the white house's communications team after a series of personnel changes during the last couple of weeks. last week trump ousted white house communications steve anthony scaramucci after only 10 days on the job. new numbers from the united nations shows an increase in immigrant deaths along the u.s.- mexican border. u.n. found more than 200 immigrants have died in the past seven months. that's 17% increase from last year. u.n. cites the increase in deaths to factors like hot water and faster water flow in the rio grande river. the data comes after 50 bodies were found in july alone, including 10 that were discovered in a truck in san antonio. time now certifies inmates as counselors and none of the graduates from that program have been back once released. we did talk to a former inmate an omcp graduate to see how he's adjusting to life as a free man. >> each week this is where 44- year-old steven juarez starts his day. >> i'm grateful for this job that i have an office. >> reporter: he's still getting used to life on the outside. >> i got out on may 10th, 2017. >> reporter: he spent years here at the state prison in solano county for kidnapping to commit second degree robbery. you were in -- >> for 13 years, five months, one week and a day. >> reporter: it was the price he paid for terrorizing and beating a woman who had taken him in when he was homeless and addicted to drugs. >> i held her at knife point with duct tape around her hands and feet. >> reporter: you were a bad guy? >> absolutely. >> reporter: it was a wake-up call for the boy who grew up in marching gone hills -- morgan hills playing sports. he turned to drugs for comfort after his divorce. >> within a year i was addicted to methamphetamine. >> reporter: prison, he says, was a battle in itself. he says he was stabbed in his cell 10 times for refusing to join a gang. but insists he was determined to change and enrolled in as many rehabilitation programs as he could. >> i've taken the best programs that the prison system has to offer and the omcp is the very best program in the prison system in the last 15 years that i have seen. >> reporter: omcp is a year long program at the solano state prison. >> mr. juarez came through my first class. i think he -- he was very well prepared to go home. he came in, he was one of the facilitators in our class here. >> reporter: participants address their own addictions and once they graduate, become certified alcohol and drug abuse counselors. >> i'm the evidence that they are talking about. i'm the evidence of the hope that a lot of my friends and my brothers in the struggle in prison, this is the dream they talk about and i'm out here and live that dream every day. >> reporter: a year ago goodwin was hired as the supervisor as that program. juarez one of his first graduates. we were there when the two met up face to face for the first time since his release. >> what did you think of this guy? >> you could see his passion in wanting to help people or being a counselor. >> reporter: the program boasts impressive stats. to date, no one who has been released after graduating from that program has ended up back behind bars. goodwin says juarez is proof that the program works. >> i knew he was going to be the -- one of the guys that would succeed when he hit the street. >> reporter: with the certification given to him through the program, juarez got a job quickly. he was hired 15 days after being released. >> within a couple of days my immediate supervisor was handing me a set of keys to my office. >> reporter: these days it seems he documents almost every moment of his new life. the today. >> pretty incredible. >> yeah, success story and you hope that when they go through this program, which is year long at the prison it gives them the tools to not only deal with their own issues but also to become productive members of he society -- of society when they get out but it is an investment but anyone who comes back, $74,000 a year for each inmate so they are investing in the idea that they will also be productive members of society. >> half the problem is just admitting you've got to buy in and once you buy in, it just becomes so much easier. >> so six months of that 12 months to see the city from this vantage point, san francisco starting out at 58 degrees, 57 in the north bay of santa rosa, in addition to the low clouds in santa rosa, mid and high level clouds that continue to stream in right now over portions of the north bay so coup feel muggy for think morning. 62 in oakland, 63 in livermore and 66 in san jose. as we get into the afternoon today, the onshore breeze will remain with us, right now it's 28 miles per hour. may come down just a little bit and then pick back up into the afternoon especially right along the coastline if you're going to see the giants play this afternoon, that west breeze to about 20 miles per hour expected for the afternoon today. but the onshore breeze and when it's this strong all the way through the delta, we know that will help to continue to cool us down for our inland cities. here's a look at your futurecast model, not picking up on just how widespread the fog is this morning, into areas like livermore, close to fairfield, covering the north bay, covering the south bay but as we get into the afternoon it will pull back and we will be mostly sunny away from the coast. i think areas like ocean beach, pacifica, daily city, half moon bay will have a hard time clearing today, even portions of the north bay, it may back off just some, if you want a sure thing, head towards santa cruz, capitola, monterey area, looks like we will get afternoon clearing there. temperature wise low 60s expected for pacifica today, 67 in san francisco, a lot of 70s around the bay, 79 in redwood city, 75 in hayward, south bay, morgan hill going to 85, upper 80s in the forecast for antioch today and that will be some of the warmer weather we receive over portions of the bay area, 79 expected in santa rosa. if you like this, tomorrow in the case of the undocumented immigrant accused of killing kate steinle. juan francisco lopez sanchez is charged with first-degree murder. the superior court judge who was assigned to the case late last week is going to hear legal motions tomorrow. 32-year-old kate steinle was walking with her dad and a family friend along the waterfront in july of 2015 when a bullet struck her in the back killing her. the public defender representing lopez sanchez says it is not unusual for homicide cases to experience delays. >> there are a variety of issues like there have been some documents subpoenaed to the court and the question is what kind of disclosures the court has to make and whether or not the opposing parties get to know what each is sort of trying to obtain. >> lopez sanchez has been deported five times before the shooting. a trial date hasn't been scheduled yet. jury selection, though, is expected to take a week. time now 8:34. moraga will hold a special meeting tuesday to talk about the town's fiscal emergency. it all stems from that large sinkhole that opened last year with all the rain on rain boulevard. the town council says the sinkhole along with the closure of a bridge on canyon road in april has cost the town $5 million leaving about $1.5 million in their reserves. tuesday's meeting open to the public and people can submit questions ahead of time, it will start at 6:00 p.m. in the council chambers. family of four in santa rosa is being helped this morning after a fire burned their apartment building, started just after 8:45 last night on west avenue. firefighters say they were able to get the flames under control in just a matter of minutes. they think the fire may have been caused by an overloaded or damaged electrical cord. firefighters say building manager cut his foot trying to put out the fire before they arrived but no one else was injured. the family that lives in the apartment wasn't home at the time. search and rescue efforts for three u.s. marines missing off the east coast of australia has ended. in a new statement from the marine base in japan, operations have shifted to recovery efforts. the three marines went missing after their ah spree went down in the water. 26 military members were on board at the time of the crash 23 recovered safely. this is the 12th noncombat military crash this year. today marks 72 years since the atomic bombing of hiroshima. the u.s. dropped the atomic bomb on hiroshima during the final days of the world war ii, the city marking the 1945 attack with a ceremony. hiroshima held a moment of silence to remember the 140,000 people killed in that bombing. the anniversary comes after japan cited just last month nuclear powers britain, france and the u.s. to dismiss u.n. treaty banning atomic weapons. a grassroots effort to recall anthony rendon seems to be picking up steam. healthcare in california calling it woefully infleet and that decision led -- incomplete and that decision led to protests outside his officer from supporters of the bill. according to the sacramento bee organizers would have to collect 20,000 signatures to hold a recall election. santa clara county stepping up its efforts to reach out to the transgender community. the county is now accepting applications for the new position of transgender service program manager. this person will coordinate and facilitate services for transgender people such as healthcare, employment and inclusion in local schools. county supervisor ken yeager says that while the trump administration seems committed to turning back the clock on the lgbtq communicate, santa clara county -- community, santa clara county is moving forward. a record setting enrollment class is expected to attend city college of san francisco this fall. enrollment is already up 17% since it was announced that tuition would now be free. the free city program will cost close to $6 million and it is being paid with an increase in a real estate transfer tax. to qualify students must live in the city and must have lived in california for more than a year. residents still have time to sign up for the fall semester and classes start in two weeks. in marin county novato high school is confident it will field enough players for the upcoming varsity football season. practice officially begins tomorrow. this is video of some of the underclassmen there. we caught up with some of the varsity players who were tossing the football around in the school parking lot. novato high first petitioned last week to cancel the season because of a lack of players. about half dozen showed up. the announcement created a community uproar and administrators now believe they will have about 20 or more players by tomorrow. >> i have been here for two years now and i don't want to be switching schools. i have made tons of friends, all of that and i don't want to start fresh. >> novato high hornets reached the division 2 state championship game just a decade ago while it made be a few -- may be a few years before the school reaches that success again, current students say they want to spend more time with their friends and because a castle only comes alive when you add the village to it so the people as well as in the village brought it to life. >> reporter: what inspired you to create something like this? >> i've always been a lover of the medieval world for sure and i've always been a farmer. but still built out of stone and wood, natural elements so really enjoy working with the natural elements and the color schemes and then adding in a few whitewashed walls and blue washed walls so -- >> reporter: you're a farmer. when i look at something like this, i think engineering and building. how did you get into that? >> we all have lots of different passions, right? >> reporter: what's the value in having something like this where there's people from around the country coming here to show off their creations and people from around the world who come to see everything here? what makes you most proud when you have something like this on display? >> i love inspiring another generation of people to really be creative and to build and to make things that are their own. i really enjoy the inspiration aspect and one of my favorite things is simply the two women knights heading up to visit the castle. >> reporter: we should mention a lot of kids here. when you think legos, you think kids but it's obviously not just for kids. this is a lifelong passion for a lot of people. >> boys, girls, iconic singer, songwriter and musician and he would have turned 75 this year. >> he's been gone 20 years now, give or take. well, caltrain fares and parking fees are going up in less than two months. starting october 1st caltrain says adult zone fairs are going to go up a quarter. monthly parking prices will increase quite a bit, $55 to $82.50. and the discounted eight ride ticket, well, that's being eliminated. on january 1st the price of the go pass will rise from 190 to $237. caltrain says all the price increases are needed to pay the rising cost of operating the train. gm is recalling 700,000 chevy and gmc pickup trucks because of a possible steering problem. the company says the vehicles may have a software glitch that could lead to a 1-second loss of power for the steering assist feature and that could interfere with a steering maneuver and lead to an accident. the vehicles under the recall are the 2014 chevy silverado and the gmc sierra trucks. they can be taken to a dealer for a free software fix. time for weather and if you're close to the coast, you are probably seeing a lot of fog, that's going to blow away and if you're inland, good for you, because it's gorgeous out there. >> good for you, yes. there's something for everything out there, though, this weekend and it's actually a nice day to be outside, not too bad. >> then as we get into the week ahead, warming up some, but still seasonal for this time of year, if you typically like the month of august where we are a bit cool at the coast and a bit warm inland, that's exactly what we have coming our way in time for your weekend, though, we will continue the cooldown that we have been experiencing. first a look here over portions of the east bay where the clouds have managed to spread all the way inland this morning and the marine layer depth about 1500 feet which is a little bit deeper than yesterday and, again, because of it, a little bit more widespread grays. a few numbers here to start, we will take a look at a few more in just a moment, 57 in santa rosa, 52 in oakland and 56 right now in san jose. here's a look at stormtracker 2, that monsoonal moisture that came our way, earlier in the week, now you can see still over areas of nevada, maybe even over portions of the sierra but for us we are pretty much drying out at this point. this low right off the coastline is helping to, again, enhance the marine layer, the onshore breeze and continuing to cool us down just some. here's a look at what we can expect as we get into the afternoon today, 60s at the coast, a lot of 70s around the bay. you have to go well inland to get those 80s and that shade of red, maybe areas like antioch and brentwood and oakley for today but for the most part you have to go into the central valley, sacramento and san joaquin valley to get the 90s for today. so again temperatures continuing to come down some. 64 for livermore outside your door right now, 62 in oakland, north bay, 60 degrees in napa, 58 to start your day. temperatures in the inner east bay where we have the sunshine beginning to climb, 69 in antioch, come closer to areas like lafayette and moraga stuck in the low 60s under that cloud cover. the micro climate pattern can't shake it, 77 san rafael today, 79 in santa rosa, 95 in clearlake. for the east bay 70s at the bay side communities, areas along the bay, right along the water, 70 degrees in alameda, 80 degrees in castro valley, upper 80s to near 90 degrees inland. if i keep talking i'll figure it out somehow. giving you a look at the south bay, 80 degrees san jose, santa cruz will see sunshine for the afternoon, 72 expected for you there. 79 in redwood city, 73 san bruno. upper 60s at the ballpark out there for the giants game today, breezy. the extended forecast here, so not much change going on as we get back to work on monday, we do begin to warm it up on tuesday with the hotter weather coming in wednesday into thursday. >> i think morning hours, it's going to peel back, we will be mostly cloudy along the coastline, especially north bay and areas near daly city, ocean beach, pacifica and half half moon bay. fairfield 23-mile-per-hour onshore breeze. earlier this morning closer to 30 or at least gusting so we had that nice, cool push from the pacific going on and it will remain for today. and for today temperatures look like this, mid-60s in areas right around daly city and half moon bay and pacifica. a lot of 70s around the bay. upper 80s expected for our warmer locations, a few areas may hit 90 degrees or so but temperatures continuing to cool just a little bit over yesterday's highs. you're going to see the giants play, going to be beautiful at the ballpark, will be breezy, though, the west wind picking including the vice president himself are secretly positioning themselves for a run at the oval office in 2020. article says that a growing number of republicans do not think there will be a second term for president trump considering all the issues regarding the russia election, healthcare, changes within the white house staff and constant fighting with the press. times says the vice president has created a political fundraising committee bridging g.o.p. donors and the administration. about an hour ago vice president pence issued a statement which reads in part, today's article in the new york times is disgraceful and offensive to me, my family and our entire team. allegations in this article are categoryally false and represent just the latest attempt by the media to divide this administration. vice president added that his team is working to get president trump reelected in four years. "new york times" has not responded. hayward police shot at a stolen car suspect last night who was accused of trying to run them over and that incident ended on gamble court near cal state east bay. a man first reported a man stolen his truck, the victim got into another car and was talking to the suspect who then shot but missed him. police arrived on scene, started chasing after the suspect, investigators say he crashed into several vehicles and slightly injured one of the drivers. the suspect then drove towards police causing an officer to shoot at the suspect who was not hit. authorities eventually caught the suspect after a brief foot chase. this morning we've got an update on two wildfires that are making headlines, officials hope by tomorrow night they can officially declare the fire near the uc berkeley campus is 100% contained. oakland deputy fire chief tells the bay area news group that there are no active flames or any known hot spots. the so-called grizzly fire broke out wednesday in the hills above cal, the university. the threat of the blaze forcing the lawrence berkeley national laboratory, lawrence hall of science to shut down for the evening while investigators have not figured out the cause of that fire. they have ruled that gunshots did spark the massive detwiler fire near yosemite. now a $2000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible. that fire began three weeks ago and burned nearly 82,000 acres along with 131 structures including 63 homes south of yosemite. fire is now 97% contained. a san francisco woman says thieves stole something from her that can never be replaced. they took laptops and hard drives from her car and those had videos of her father on them who is dying of cancer. liz kain's father was diagnosed with colon cancer five years ago so she decided she was going to document their time together. she says he now only has months to live and those videos, as you can imagine, are priceless. on june 6th kain says she is in the process of moving when someone broke into her car and stole hard drives that were under a bag of clothes in the back. >> every birthday, every holiday, adventures we took a few train trips across the country to visit extended family. >> now, this is surveillance video that shows a man walking on the street around the time of the theft. you don't actually see the break-in on the video but you can see the man leave in a hurry with several bags. kain hired a private investigator, also put up fliers in the neighborhood and given the serial numbers to police and hoping to get the videos back. now to the north bay where police shot and killed a man who officers say was armed with a knife. investigators say a resident of a home on west steel lane in santa rosa called 911 just before 6:00 yesterday morning and reported someone at the house was, quote, acting crazy and causing a disturbance. when the police arrived at the scene officers say they found the man hiding under a bed holding what they described as a large knife. police say they made repeated attempts to get the man to drop the knife including less lethal force but he wouldn't listen. police say the suspect advanced towards officers and one of them shot the man, killing him, his identity has not yet been released. the officers were wearing body cameras and police say that the video of the incident of the recorded. sonoma county sheriff's department is overseeing the investigation and the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave. a man in sonoma county was arrested overnight saturday in the brutal beating death of his wife. 72-year-old steven rothchild called 911 saturday night saying he and his wife had been fighting and she was dead. officers went to their home in the boys hot springs community and found 67-year-old juanita rothchild. she had been severely beaten and dead on the couch. they tried to revive her but they were unsuccessful. her husband being held at the sonoma county jail without bail. last month the board of directors voted to eliminate routes because of low ridership. samtrans says only between five and 10 people use the routes during the day. it will save $170,000 a year. it's a children's toy that has with stood the test of time. it's growing in popularity with boys and girls. it's very impressive, allie. >> reporter: more than 1000 creations in this room and they are original creations. the people who made these did not use any instruction booklet. they did it on their own. i want to point out the bay area lego users group, this is their table and they have got some local landmarks here that caught my eye, the ferry building, a replica of that, also replica of the old eastern span of the bay bridge with the caltrain running over t you can't see that -- over it, you can't see that in real life anymore. show you some of the video from some of the various creations because in this exhibit hall there are thousands of different creations for people to look at in a variety of categories, they've got a maritime themed exhibit, robotic exhibits, arts, pop culture, robots, also a special junior category for builders who are kids and teens and these creations are judged and they can win prizes today. that's part of the event going on here for the bricks by the bay convention. now, earlier we spoke with one lego creator who has some of his stuff on display. he's a mechanical engineer with the jet propulsion lab in pasadena. he worked on the curiosity rover that's now on mars, showing us his creations of this air ship he created with real working motors and he says long before his current career he was working with legos as a kid and he says legos are still helping to train and inspire the next generation of engineers. >> when i was in high school, i was designing man's mission to jupiter in a grass paper notebook and i used lego pieces to figure out how pieces fit together or maybe i could build a model later or something. >> reporter: lego replica of the curiosity on display. a look back out here live, you can see this is the motorized mechanical lego table and a lot of kids out here, not only kids coming to see the creations but a lot of kids who are the builders here on display. so it's open for anyone who wants to come close to the four corners there. we have this low right in here that is bringing us the cooler weather, the onshore breeze, the marine layer is deeper this morning and if i move in a little bit closer you can see the counterclockwise swirl in there. you can also see how it's sort of dragging in, a little bit of that mid and high level moisture at this hour. over portions of the north bay and northern california and that should be about it. it is going to continue to move out of the area. here's a look at the futurecast model as we get into your sunday afternoon, we will be mostly sunny away from the coastline but notice the north bay coast areas down through ocean beach and pacifica and half moon bay could be a tough one to clear today. if you're going a little bit farther south, looks like it's going to back off the coast right there near areas like capitola and santa cruz but for the rest of us a partly to mostly cloudy day. inside the bay and inland communities, upper 60s in san jose so climbing a bit now again the clouds are clearing out. 71 for antioch under mostly sunny skies, low 60s areas lafayette and moraga. afternoon highs for today, depending on how you like your weather you can spend your day at stinson beach where we will be mostly cloudy and 65 or you can maybe do wine tasting in sonoma, 789 afternoon high for you there. on the east bayshore, alameda country or a single region. it is instead a threat that confronts us all in a world where north korea missile tests seem routine, let me be clear, this is not business as usual. >> this is the most drills. president trump posted these statements on twitter about the sanctions. the first reads the united nations security council just voted 15-0 to sanction north korea. china and russia voted with us, very big financial impact. the president goes on to write united nations resolution is the single largest economic sanctions package ever on north korea over $1 billion in costs to north korea. as but your temperatures are beginning to climb now that you have the sunshine beginning to move through, san jose started out cloudy over portions of the north bay in addition to low cloud cover we have mid and high level clouds just a wee bit of that monsoonal moisture still kind of wrapping around the low off the coast. here's a look at the coast, where we are with the gray skies, perhaps even a little bit of drizzle out there this morning. i had some coming into oakland so you may find it along the coast as well. fairfield at 23-mile-per-hour onshore breeze, gusting to near 30 earlier on. so backed off some but still looking at temperatures cooling down into your afternoon. low 90s yesterday, we will go upper 90s for today. antioch expected to hit about 89. 86 in concord, closer to the bay 75 in hayward, 76 san mateo and 63 the afternoon high under mostly cloudy skies in pacifica. to the north bay we have upper 70s for santa rosa, napa. beautiful day for most. and temperatures won't from the large sinkhole that opened last year on ream boulevard. still working on it and the town council says that sinkhole along with a closure of a bridge on canyon road in april has cost the town $5 million which leaves only about 1.5 million in their reserves. tuesday's meeting open to the public and people tend to submit questions ahead of time. starts at 6:00 at council chambers. a family of four in santa rosa is being held this morning after a fire burned through their apartment building, started just after 8:45 last night on west avenue. firefighters say they were able to get the flames under control in a matter of minutes. they think the fire may have been caused by an overloaded or damaged electrical cord. firefighters say the building manager cut his foot trying to put out the fire before they arrived on scene but no one else was injured. family that lived in the apartment was not home at the time. search and rescue efforts for three u.s. marines missing off the east coast of australia has ended in a new statement from the marine base in japan, quote, operations have now shifted to recovery efforts. the three marines were missing avenue their osprey went down in the water while conducting regular operations yesterday. 26 military personnel on board at the time of the crash 23 recovered safely. this is the 12th noncombat military crash this year. and general motors is recalling 700,000 chevy and gmc pickup trucks because of a possible steering problem. company says the vehicle may have a software glitch that could lead to a 1-second loss of power for the steering assist feature that could interfere with steering, maneuvering and could lead to an accident. the vehicles under recall are 2014 chevy silverado and gmc sierra trucks. they can be taken to the dealer for a free software fix. caltrain fares and parking fares are going up october 1st. adult zone fares going up by 25 cents. monthly parking prices are going to increase $55 to $82.50. and then the discounted eight ride ticket is going to be eliminated. on january 1st the price of a go pass will go from $190 to $237. lots of numbers for you. caltrans says the price increases are needed to pay the rising cost of the operating system. a little league team from the bay area just three wins away from earning a spot at the little league world series. >> guys are excited. they are in the 1980s. happening now, a tribute to a founding father, the legendary bay area band the grateful dead. the city is officially unveiling a bronze plaque to honor the late jerry garcia, located at amazon avenue and mission street near one of the homes garcia lived in as he was growing up. the plaque as a garcia quote, what we are trying to do is expand rather than narrow. a plaque located on harrington street that commemorates another garcia childhood home was dedicated in october. presentation is coinciding with the 15th annual jerry garcia day concert. the music fest held in maclaren park. he was an iconic singer, songwriter, musician, world renown. he would have turned 75 this year. today's festivities also coincide with the 50th anniversary of the summer of love. well, these were some favorite toys for you? >> i was more of a lincoln log guy but legos are good. >> i liked lincoln logs too. legos that i created if i'm going to be honest did not even come close. >> that's why you're not an engineer. >> i am not an engineer. >> they are on display in the south bay. bridges, entire cities, all made of legos. let's check in with allie rasmus live at the santa clara convention center with a look at some pretty cool creations at the 2017 bricks by the bay. allie, take it away. >> reporter: there are thousands of different exhibits here. we have moved to the table behind us, this where the junior builders have their creations on display and junior builders means 12 and under so these, keep in mind, are all  original creations, no instruction booklet. the kids who have put these together use their own skills and imagination. there are cool ones over here. emerald city over there from wizard of oz, looks like that one won a prize for most creative junior builder and that's the thing here, all the different cables are organized by themes and all the different themes have a -- there's prizes and there's a judging component to it as well. but we talked to another junior builder, he's 12 years old and he is creating or he created along with some other members of the bay area lego users group something he called the great ball contraption. it has a conveyor belt, various motors and it moves one ball per second. he's been working on it for more than a year and he talked to us by why he finds this to be such a rewarding hobby. >> mostly i love the satisfaction of working mechanical mechanism and i like the tinkering with it and i enjoy that a lot. >> reporter: and some of the other themes of the creations on display are military, robotic, arts, pop culture, historical replicas. the entire table of maritime displays from the high seas, various different boats. there was an aircraft carrier at the end of this table and we talked to the builder of that. he says it took him to years to create it. a lot of fascinating things for people to see out here. a lot of families here, a lot of kids out here, as you can imagine. not just kids building moving forward. >> her death of course launched that nationwide debate on immigration laws because the man accused of killing her has been departed multiple times. you do have pre-trial motions set to begin tomorrow, the case was assigned to a judge last friday to a lot ahead. >> we don't have trial date but if there are no delays we should see jury selection in about a week, although defense attorneys will tell you it's not uncommon to see delays leading up to a trial especially one as big as this. and we also talked a lot yesterday here on mornings on 2 about that kind of a bizarre case out of chicago where two professors from some major universities are facing murder charges. >> we were at the federal building live in oakland yesterday where one of the men turned himself in. the next step in this case looks to be extradition, one of the suspects will be in court tomorrow. not sure at this point he's going to fight that extradition. we will have to wait to see on that but if he doesn't, then expect the chicago detectives to come out and get him. >> of course we are still -- we still don't know why they were in the bay area in the first place. a lot of questions to be answered, hopefully we will get answers for you this week. and there was one wore court case of interest, bay area people, this one involves bay area teacher yvette flashinga-- filarka. >> she is facing charges for assault and inciting a riot for a confrontation caught on video at a pro trump rally. now, there are also a lot of stories, cities and schools that we are keeping an eye on. >> on tuesday the san jose city council could decide whether to move forward with a pilot program that helps to build affordable housing for the teachers. >> yeah, there's a group of community mothers who are trying to -- members who are trying to use private money, 16 new affordable housing for teachers. >> could face opposition because the proposed site where the housing would be not is zoned for commercial use only. we will keep an cry on that. this week busier roads, busier streets, busier target stores. >> yeah. they are already busy. >> children in san mateo go back to school this tuesday over the next few weeks, lots of districts will follow. >> it's early, i think but here we go. it's time to buy the school supplies, new lunch boxes, backpacks and don't forget to register. websites back in action. how is your weather looking as we look ahead to the workweek? >> just like summer should be, we are cool at the coast and we are warm inland, although we are not too hot, at least not yet. things will start to change as we get into the extended forecast, but let's talk about today and then we will talk about the rest of the week in a little bit. take a view outside our doors where we are still dealing with mostly cloudy skies over the oakland estuary and as we look towards san francisco, socked in good, along the coast, a little bit of drizzle a possibility this morning. we will continue in this pattern for a couple of days. today's numbers look a lot like what we can expect for tomorrow as well, high pressure remains near the four corners, you can see that monsoonal moisture still hanging around primarily over nevada at this point, may find some over the sierra and this low over the coastline, that is what is helping to cool us down and bring back the onshore breeze and the marine layer this morning is deeper than it was yesterday morning. you can see the counterclockwise circulation in there. it is continuing to drag in a little bit of that moisture, you can see how it wraps around and moves into the north bay so you may have a few bits of mid and high level cloud cover over north bay as well as lake county but that should be about it. shouldn't cause you much trouble. futurecast model shows you as we get into the afternoon, we will be mostly sunny away from the coastline and we are looking at partly to mostly cloudy skies from areas through stinson beach, bodega beach, ocean beach, pacifica, half moon bay, santa cruz as well as capitola, south monterey area looks like it will clear out for the afternoon but for the rest of us could be a mostly cloudy to partly cloudy day. if you're going to see the giants play, partly cloudy skies, 66 degrees at game time with a west wind picking up in the afternoon to about 12 miles per hour. a little breezy, cool out there at at&t park. afternoon highs oversaves leet, beautiful -- over sausalito. 73 for oakland this afternoon, upper 80s walnut creek, danville, pleasanton, livermore, south bay locations, san jose go to 80 degrees, 84 in saratoga, low 70s in santa cruz under those partly cloudy to mostly clear skies for the afternoon. 79 in redwood city, 67 the afternoon high for the city of san francisco. meanwhile along the coast, daly city you're going to be a cool, partly to mostly cloudy, low 60s for you. temperatures won't change as we get back to work on monday but we do begin to warm up on tuesday with even warmer weather coming in wednesday, thursday, inland communities will be back into the mid to upper 90s. >> if i was you, i would go to santa cruz today. >> great mother. she is upset because she says her child is being illegally tracked by this disney gaming app. amanda rushing says the apps collect data that's later used for commercial purposes like advertising and that's without the consent of the parent. this lawsuit claims it's a violation of the children's online privacy protection act. the suit names several apps including disney, princess palace pets which her daughter plays, she is asking the court to certify the lawsuit as a class action claim. and in marin county, novato high school is confident it will field enough players for its upcoming varsity football season. practice officially kicks off tomorrow. this is video of the underclassmen. we caught up with some of the varsity players who were tossing the football around the school parking lot this week. novato high's first petition last week to cancel the season. only had about half dozen players show up. the announcement created community uproar and administrators now believe there will be about 20 or more players by tomorrow. it's a 3 billion and counting for the music video featuring the number 1 song of the summer. the video is for the song despacito, hid two
