No employees were nz the building when the flames began around 7 30 p. M. It took crews four hours to get it under control. The chief urging people who live nearby to take precautions. For those who knew Karina Vetrano, she was more than a face on a flyer. She was a great girl. She had tons of friends. She lit up the room when she walked in. Reporter family, friends and neighbors came together and lit candles outside of vetro lounge where she worked. She was found strangled tuesday night after going for a just a few blocks from her howard beach home near the spring creek federal land near the belt parkway. Police also believe she may have been sexually assaulted. They say her body was found with her shorts and sports bra pulled down. Reporter police say vertrano left her home to go for a jog around 5 00 tuesday evening. The avid runner often used the unpaved trail and often ran alongside her father. This time an injury kept her at home. He asked her not to run this path, not without him. Reporter police say stopped. Her father began to worry when his phone calls to her went unanswered. At some point after that her father began to worry when she didnt return home. He call a member of the service, the police chief who lives nearby who then called 911. Reporter he helped police retrace their usual running route and pings from her cell phone led them to a marshy area about 15 feet from the path. Her father discover the body. You can imagine his angst at that point. We found her ce ground. Reporter while the community continues to mourn vertranos death, the focus shifts to finding her killer. New this morning, police have released photos that they believe say are involveed in a credit card fraud ring. The nypd says these are the latest two caught on camera may until july. Many of the victims had accounts at the ridgewood savings bank. Police say eight thieves in total used the credit card information to buy over 30,000 worth of merchandise at stores in East New York and brownsville, brooklyn. Also new this morning, security cameras captured clear images of three men wanted for robbing thousands of dollars from a queens business. The three allegedly broke into a Restaurant Supply store in astoria by cutting a hole in the window. They apparently knew what they from a lock box inside an office. The men are between 40 and 50. City Council President liam mcglock lin wrote the legislation. Were not messing around. The city council has increased the fine from a class 3 to a class 2 offense. Janelle. Reporter well, chris, the chief told people who live in this area to keep their windows shut as a precaution. But firefighters, they are still out here on the scene. You can see they have those ladders and those hoses up above the roof which part of it actually collapsed from the intensity of the flames. This massive fire fueled by those materials inside. The massive flames lighting up sunnyside wednesday night, more than 250 firefighters battling the raging fire as the warehouse burned. Inside a flammable combination fueling the burst of flames that could be seen and smelled for miles. Had a lot of wood, had a lot of lacquers, thinners, painters, paint in the shop which led to a quick fire spread. It was like a weird immense smell is. It was really strong. Reporter the warehouse listed as new interior Millwork Corporation, a familyowned woodwork and interior design company. No employees were inside the building when the flames began around 7 30 p. M. It took crews four hours to get it under control. The chief urging people who live nearby to take precautions. Close your windows, just stay away from the smoke. Its the products of combustion. We asked that question right away whats burning, but we hope most of it is just consumed in the fire. New this morning investigators are uncovering new information and new evidence in the search for a killer in queens. A community on edge as they search for the person who attacked and murdered a 30year old jogger. Cbs 2s Andrea Grymes is in howard beach with more. Are testing trash found near the scene to see if itll lead them to their killer. They also have in their possession Karina Vetranos cell phone and also some Surveillance Video as they continue to work this scene, as you can see behind me, trying to find out who murdered this 30yearold jogger. Reporter griefstricken loved ones and howard beach residents lit candles, consoling each other into the night, some who knew 30year old Karina Vetrano, others who outraged by her murder. This girl was a beautiful girl in the prime of her life, you know, taken down by an animal. Reporter investigators put up reward posters in the neighbor, hoping for any tips that could lead to vertranos killer. Vertrano, an avid runner left her home around fierveg p. M. On tuesday for a jog nearby around 5 00 p. M. On a jog nearby in the spring creek federal park land near the belt parkway. Police say she usually went with her father. But this time an injury kept not answer his calls. At some point after that her father began to get worried, where she was, she didnt return home normally. He called a member of the service, police chief who lives nearby who then called 911. Reporter vertranos dad helped Police Search and tuesday night pings from her cell phone led them to a marshy area about 15 feet away from the running path. Investigators say her dad was the one who found her body. Strangled to death and posi Police Sources say one of her hands was clutching grass, indicating she may have been dragged. Were told a single sneaker and her headphones were missing. Neighbors say many frequent this area, including homeless, day laborers and fishermen. Its unclear whether vertrano knew her killer or was targeted at random. Its just a terrible tragedy. I dont know what else to say, you know. Its frightening because i go bike riding everyday right on streets still blocked off. Vertrano was a graduate of st. Johns university. Were told she worked at a local catering hall. We are following developing news out of london where police are investigating a knife attack, and if it was terror related. One woman was killed, five others hurt after a man went on a stabbing spree. The attack happened in russell se british museum. A 19yearold man was arrested after he was taken down with a stun gun. Officials say he is now in custody in a hospital. Early indications suggest that Mental Health is a significant factor in this case and that is one major line of inquiry. City leaders say theyre stepping up Police Patrols this morning as a precautionary measure. Dramatic video from inside crash landed in dubai. Cell phone video shows some passengers trying to get their suitcases yesterday before flight attendants ordered them off the plane. Just minutes later it caught fire. All 300 people aboard escaped, including six americans. One firefighter was killed. The ntsb sent a team to dubai to help with the investigation. Government scientists have started testing an experimental zika virus vaccine on humans. The study involves about 80 volunteers. Initial results are expected by the end of e congress to approve a 1. 1 million spending bill to fund zika programs, but lawmakers have left for an extended recess without a passage. Meanwhile, new york state is cracking down on companies trying to cash in on zika fears. A poster plastering his face on social media has been shared nearly 1,200 times. He made off with about 500 in the first two breakins, the third time the register was empty. Reporter the canopy of stately oak trees is a signature of the long island landscape, but a newly discovered tree disease could put that in peril. Unfortunately it is a big deal. Oak wilt is a very serious tree disease. Reporter a big deal says forester john warnet of the new York State Department of environmental conservation. Oak wilt, a fungus that kills trees mainly in been confirmed for the first time on long island, on this block in Central Islip where residents love their woods. Its heavily wooded around here, the name of the street is allwood street. Reporter the discovery made by an alert arborists on private property on this block. Four new plantings, red oaks from out of state suddenly an inexplicably died. Oak leaves like these turn red causing bark to wilt. The oak wiltinfected trees were removed, but to stop an isolated case from spreading via roots and insects, the d. E. C. Says it must destroy all red oaks in a 150foot radius. This morning investigators uncovers new information and new evidence. Cbs 2s Andrea Grymes is in howard beach with more. Andrea. Reporter chris and mary, investigators now know that 30 yearold Karina Vetrano was strangled to death and possibly sexually assaulted. What they dont know this morning is motive. At this point do not know if she was targeted at random or if her killer sought her out. Griefstricken loved ones and howard beach residents lit candles, consoling each other into the night, some who knew 30yearold Karina Vetrano, others who didnt, but all shaken and outraged by her murder. This girl was a beautiful girl in the prime of her life, you know, taken down by an animal. Reporter investigators put up reward posters in the neighborhood, hoping for any vertranos killer. Vertrano, an avid runner left her home around 5 00 p. M. On tuesday for a jog nearby on an unpaved trail in the spring creek federal park land near the belt parkway. Police say she usually went with her father, but this time an injury kept him home. He got concerned when she did not answer his calls. At some point after that her father began to get worried, where she was, she didnt return home normally. He called a member of the se nearby who then called 911. Reporter vertranos dad helped Police Search and tuesday night pings from her cell phone led them to a marshy area about 15 feet away from the running path. Investigators say her dad was the one who found her body, strangled to death and possibly sexually assaulted. Police sources say one of her hands was clutches grass, indicating she may have been dragged. Were told a single sneaker and her headphones were missing. Day laborers and fishermen. Its unclear whether vertrano knew her killer or was targeted at random. Its just a terrible tragedy. I dont know what else to say, you know, its frightening because i go bike riding everyday right on that path. Were told she worked at a local catering hall. Police sources say cops are the scene to see if itll lead them to the killer. A massive fire ripped through a warehouse in queens, sending smoke billowing into the air. It took several hours and huns of firefighters to get it under control. Reporter well, chris, firefighters got this fire under control around 11 00 last night, but you can see theres still some issues, some areas have that ladder still above the roof of that warehouse addressing some of the hot spots that remain. This was a fastmoving fire fueled by some of the materials stored inside. The massive flames lighting up the sky on 37th street in sunnyside wednesday night, more than 250 firefighters battling the raging fire as the warehouse burned. Inside a flammable combination fueling the burst of flames that could be seen and smelled for miles. Of lacquers, thinners, painters, paint in the shop which led to a quick fire spread. It was like a weird immense smell. It was really strong. Reporter the warehouse listed as new york custom interior Millwork Corporation, a familyowned wood work and interior design company. No employees were inside the building when the flames began around 7 30 p. M. It took crews four hours to get it under control. Precautions. Close your windows, just stay away from the smoke. Its the products of combustion. We asked that question right away whats burning, but we hope most of it is just consumed in the fire. This morning investigators are uncovering new information and new evidence in their search for a killer in queens. A community on eng as they search for the person who attacked and old jogger. Cbs 2s Andrea Grymes is in howard beach with more. Andrea. Reporter chris and mary, investigators have been on the scene here since 30yearold Karina Vetrano was murdered. The streets are still blocked off here in howard beach. Sources say police are testing some trash found at the scene, including a soda can. They also have vertranos cell phone and they are looking at possible video surveillance. But still this morning no suspects and no motive. Candles, consoling each other into the night, some who knew 30yearold Karina Vetrano, others who didnt, but all shaken and outraged by her murder. This girl was a beautiful girl in the prime of her life, you know, taken down by an animal. Reporter investigators put up reward posters in the neighborhood, hoping for any tips that could lead to vertranos killer. Vertrano, an avid runner left her home around 5 00 p. M. On tuesday for a jog nearby on an unpaved trail in the spring creek federal park land the belt parkway. Police say she usually went with her father, but this time an injury kept him home. He got concerned when she did not answer his calls. At some point after that her father began to get worried, where she was is, she didnt return home normally. He called a member of the service, police chief who lives nearby who then called 911. Reporter vertranos dad helped Police Search and tuesday night pings from her cell phone led them to a marshy investigators say her dad was the one who found her body, strangled to death and possibly sexually assaulted. Police sources say one of her hands was clutching grass, indicating she may have been dragged. Were told a single sneaker and her headphones were missing. Neighbors say many frequent this area, including homeless, day laborers and fishermen. Its unclear whether vertrano knew her killer or was targeted at random. Its just a terrible tragedy i dont know say. You know, its frightening because i go bike riding everyday right on that path. Again, the investigation ongoing, a man was found stabbed earlier this morning along the waterfront in Staten Island that eventually died on the scene.
