Dont want to let this moment slip away Osgood Michael bolt on and Martha Teichner again again. When a man loves a woman exactly. Osgood but first. It eats 500 different plants,, monsters arent just figments of our imagination. Theyre here in reality. Just ask illinois governor pat quinn who, back in june, called for the total separation of the Mississippi River basin from the great lakes, hoping against hope to stop the advance of one very aggressive fish, a fish that is just one part of a far bigger problem. Our cover story is reported now by mark strassman. Reporter meet the king of the Illinois River. Wow. Reporter and a big showoff. Mask lar. Muscular. Very muscular. Reporter i mean, this thing will hurt you. Yes, yes. It can jump out of the water at high speeds. They can jump a great distance out of the water, up to eight feet out of the water. Reporter fast, easy to startle, and voracious eaters, asian silver carp are a jarring sight here and a hit on youtube tube. But Fisheries Research scientist greg sass says in the long history of this water way whats also remarkable is when this fish got here. Just 20 years ago. By the mid 2000s it was becoming a crisis. Not only were fish jumping everywhere but what was showing up in our catches, the amount of asian carp versus the native fishes. Reporter just amazing how wide it is. With no natural predators in this stretch of the river in central illinois, up to nine out of ten fish here are now asian carp. Weve seen explosive population growth. Weve seen a population that has doubled almost every year since 2000 here. Were fairly confident we have the highest wild densities of asian carp anywhere in the world. Reporter which is quite a feat considering this fish is is from china. The Illinois River has been invaded. The fish are behaving in a way were not used to. Theyre doing things to the ecosystem that were not sure what kind of effect there will be yet. Theres just an incredible abundance of them. Reporter its an invasion from coast to coast. From africankiller honest he bees in the southwest to louisiana to the spread of the burmese python in the florida everglades. All part of a scary trend. Everywhere we look, we see species that are spreading and damaging our natural ecosystems now. And when scientists look into the future, they see the potential for many more damaging species. Reporter you make it sound like were under attack everywhere. We are under attack everywhere. Reporter david lodge is a biologist at the university of notre dame. He says our agricultural system depends on plant and animal species imported to america, like wheat and cows and pigs. But that doesnt make them invaders an Invasive Species is a species thats been transported from one part of the planet to the other by people. And a species that has a harmful impact. Reporter and typically transported by design, by accident, a little bit of both . Both. Lots of Invasive Species have been transported by accident in the ball after water of ships or as a hidden pest on plants that have been imported. But many have also been imported intentionally. Reporter like the shakespeare fan who back in the 1890s set out to bring to america ever bird mentioned in the bards plays. I think we can be grateful that he was unsuccessful for a great many of those birds but he was amazingly successful with starlings. They are now one of the most common birds in north america and a nuisance. Reporter today they number more than 200 million. Most species were introduced for practical reasons, like the asian carp which was imported to clean catfish ponds in arkansas. But as is is almost always the case, they escaped. And it wasnt really until perhaps the 1980s that biologists in the mississippi basin realized this was a growing problem that was likely to get very severe. Reporter asian carp my greated up the Mississippi River to its tributaries, the missouri and illinois. Today only a series of electric barriers in chicagos shipping channels separate the fish from the great lakes. And its 7 billion commercial and Recreational Fishing industry. Now consider kudzu, tick named the vine that ate the south. As you can see its taken over the vegetation that was here. Its overtopping the small trees. Its overtopping the taller trees. It will eventually shade them out. The trees will die. It will all come down to the ground and everything here will be kudzu. Nothing will live here except for kudzu. Reporter back in the 30s the u. S. Government paid farmers to plant this japannese vine to control erosion. And the kudzu began to exemplify the theory of unintended consequences very well. It got everywhere it wasnt supposed to get. Reporter john taylor was for years a kudzu expert at the u. S. Forest service. He says the vine, which can grow as fast as a foot a day, now covers up to eight million acres of the south. Snapping power lines, blanketing trees, and even structures like this barn in rural georgia. It will eventually cover the whole building and pull it down. Reporter look at this taylor says scientists do know how to eradicate it. The problem is spending the money it would take to control large areas and the time that it would take over multiple years to control kudzu. Its not a feasible activity. Reporter the bill would run into the billions. Which brings us to the national tab for Invasive Species. Notre dames david lodge. The costs to the u. S. Economy from Invasive Species generally are on the order of at least 120 billion annually. Reporter costs like the 10 billion that cities will spend over the next ten years to treat or replace the millions of ash trees caught in the path of the emerald ash borer, a bug that likely found its way from china on wooden shipping pal lets. As the world grows more interconnected, lodge says the problem will only grow worse. Theres just nor opportunity now to move species intentionally and unintentionally around the globe. Reporter few parts of the country have more experience with that than south florida. A lot of trade. A lot of international tourism. A lot of international cargo. And you have a climate where whatever gets here lives forever. Reporter adam putnam is floridas agricultural commissioner. He says that in recent years his state has had infestations that range from the exotic like pythons to rat to vital threats to agriculture like the mediterranean fruit fly. On his radar now the giant african land snail which can lay 1200 eggs a year. It was like a dream or something. It was like a myth i can creature that walked. It was about that big. Really slithering and juicy. They have all kinds of fluids coming out. I dont like it. For me its disgusting. With Something Like nail snails we have the trifecta. Human meningitis, it eats 500 different plants so agriculture is concerned and it eats houses so homeowners are very concerned reporter this stuccoeating pest that can grow up to eight inches long has brought together a team of 50 specialists. Nationally 30 federal agencies are involved in the fight against Invasive Species. With about 1. 5 billion spent annually. Federal or state, funding is a struggle. Its difficult. Screenings at the airport and seaport face other pressures, the pressures to look for drugs, to look for bombs, to look for other weapons of mass destruction so post 9 11 you see less of a focus on snails and citrus cancor and laurel wilt disease and things like that. I suspect travel is bringing pests in daily. Reporter one solution for florida educating the public. Wherever youre coming from, leave all that stuff behind because anyone of those things can carry the larva that is going to become the fly that is going to wipe out 100 billion industry in our state. Reporter prevention is key, david lodge argues. But also our biggest challenge. For the most part, in the United States, we continue to operate under what i would describe as an opendoor policy. With very few exceptions, it is legal to import alive into the United States almost any plant or animal that exists on the planet. And there are at least 1. 7 million species on the planet. Reporter when it comes to Invasive Species, as we say in the reporting business, this is a story with legs. Osgood were off to the mall. Next. Introducing tidy cats with glade tough odor solutions. Two trusted names, one amazing product. For over 30 years. And its now the most doctor recommended, the most preferred and the most studied. So when it comes to getting the most out of your multivitamin, the choice is clear. Centrum. Osgood and now a page from our sunday morning almanac. August 11, 1992, 21 years ago today. A redletter day for american retailers. For that was the day the mall of america opened just outside minnesotas twin cities. To eager crowds. Im going to cry. Osgood built on the side of a former sports stadium, the mall bills itself as americas largest retail and entertainment complex. With more than 500 stores, an indoor amusement park. Will you have time to meet your husband. Reporter a wedding chaip he will, an aquarium, theaters and restaurants. More than four million square feet in all. More than 40 million guests from all over america and the world every year. The mall also welcomes a constant parade of bigname celebrities. Its even starred in movies serving us as a back drop for the 1996 film jingle all the way starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a father battling other christmas shoppers for an elusive turbo man action figure. Jingle all the way reporter real life trouble has sometimes intruded on the mall as well. In 1996, a rash of youthful crime forced the mall to barrack cec by unaccompanied teens on friday and saturday evenings and a variation of that policy remains in effect today. On the other hand, the mall invites hundreds of socalled mall stars to walk its hallways every day. And it plays host to Charity Events that raise more than 12 million a year. With more than a dozen larger malls now in operation overseas, the mall of america is launching a huge expansion project that will more than double its size and it hopes to attract another 20 million eager shoppers every year. Ahead. What do you call these . E just call it head. Osgood a head. It took years to build this business. Our summer art fair this week jefned takes us to the heart of the country where our mo rocca has the story about an artist whose remarkable work is literally larger than life. Omaha. The middle of middle america. And negoya japan separated by 6,000 miles but sharing someone remarkable. What do you call these . We just call it head. Reporter that is a head. The head. Reporter six feet and 1200 pounds of head. And the brain child of artist keneko who works here in omaha. Now omaha is known for warren buffet, steaks and your art. Warren buffet and steaks, i agree. My art, maybe i need to catch up a little more. Reporter he set up shop here 25 years ago. Its his wifes hometown. Since then, hes been rewriting the rules on the shape and size of ceramic art. I call it the spiritual scale. Im trying to make pieces Strong Enough to pull the viewer into it. Then you become one with it. Reporter he was born in japan in the months after the attack on pearl harbor. He showed promise early on. At 21 he came to america to study painting. His host family, it turns out, collected ceramic art. And his focus soon expanded from two dimensions to three. This is painted and glazed. Yeah. Reporter but it needs to go through its second fire. Thats right. Reporter his breakout works were called dongas, thats japan hes for dump links. They resemble huge vases with the tops closed. The goal isnt just to make big pieces per say. Thats true. Because it takes so much effort to make a big piece. So you better make sure the piece is going to be good. Dont make ugly big piece. Reporter take those big heads, for example. Why this face . Youre making face, looks like the person. I used to have a korean assistant. I think he build this one. One here, one here. Reporter at 71, he now leaves the heavy lifting to a team of assistants like garrett rainic who grew up only half our away. How great is that that, that one of the masters of ceramic arts happens to live nearby. I always tell people i would go anywhere in the world for this job so its just real lucky that im at home essentially. Reporter during our visit, he was painstakingly assembling his masters latest big thing. Tanuki. It means racoon dog. Its the name of a small animal popular in japan hes folk tales. The heavy clay slabs are fitted and forms from the feet up around a hollow core. Each tanuki takes more than a year to complete. Spending as many as 22 days in kanekos giant kill. Em hand paints each one. You just want to run and hug them. Reporter this summer 21tanukis along with 13dongos are on exhibit at chicagos Millennium Park offering an irresistibly hands on art experience. Kids must love this. Oh, yeah. They really go crazy. Reporter kaneko is rarely far from the studio. He lives just across the street where his walkin closet is filled with his prized hawaiian shirt collection. Whoa these are nice, man. He has 400 of them. When you are hungry, this is good. Reporter lobster. Do you ever wear a hawaiian shirt when youre doing your art work . No. Reporter never . No. While he may not design shirts, he has moved beyond ceramics. He spent two years designing the costumes and backgrounds for a San Francisco opera production of mozarts the magic flute. All the scenery was projected on to the screens, Ground Breaking for a major opera production. With his international acclaim, kaneko is deluged with requests to teach and show his work around the world. But when he is on the road, he really only wants to be back home in omaha. I value everything based on can i add extra time in the studio because thats what i really want to do. Without my studio time, its not hard for me to be alive almost. The jews some. No, the dentists. Its sunday morning on cbs. Here again is charles osgood. Osgood from a goofy dentist on seinfeld to a grimfaced drug dealer on cables breaking bad, Brian Cranston has come a very long way to be sure. With that Program Starting its final eightepisode run tonight, cranston sat down with lee cowan for some questions and answers. Reporter it looked just pathetic, a middleaged man in his tighty whiteees resolved it would seem to face a rather embarrassing last stand. But for actor Brian Cranston, this was no last stand. His was just the beginning. Amcs breaking bad has become a cable tv addiction. If you watch it, you know what were talking about. Im thinking maybe you and i could partner up. You want to cook krystal meth . Reporter if you dont watch, you probably have heard about it. Thats pretty good buzz for a show that almost never got made. Breaking bad on paper is one of the worst ideas for a Television Show ever. Reporter during a visit to his beach house just north of los angeles where he lives with his wife actress Robin Deardon cranston laid out the difficulty in describing the plot of breaking bad and his unsavory yet somehow likable character walter white. This depressed middleaged man who is a High School Chemistry teacher. He finds out hes got terminal language cancer. He has a wife and a special needs son with c. P. , and his wife is pregnant. He decides to cook krystal meth, make as much money as he can for his family before he dies. Reporter thats the pitch. Thats the pitch. Tada youre a drug dealer. No. What . Reporter a drugdealing dad turned monster was indeed a tough sell. Now as breaking bad heads into its fifth and final season its widely considered one of the best written shows on television. Cranstons performance has earned him three emmys in a row for outstanding lead actor. And last month it even helped him get a stone on the hollywood walk of fame. There has never been a Television Show where we are first introduced to someone and as one specific character you get him and know who he is. Over the course of the series he adjusts and changes and becomes someone else. I am not in danger, skyler. I am the danger. This evil egodriven maniacal murderous man. Stay out of my territory. Reporter the show is the creation of former exfiles writer vince gill began who, despite keeping a pretty tightly guarded set, allowed us behind the scenes in albuquerque new mexico where the whole series is shot. Listen, i need you to come inside and pack right now. I hope thats all right. I didnt want to embarrass you by being overdressed. Reporter although his character is dark, on set cranston is anything but. Were going to do like an excited girl dance. Reporter perhaps its just a loopy side effect from the 12hour days and intense preparation which included having to learn his characters complex chemical craft. We were taught how to make krystal methamphetamine. Reporter really . Like you could make it . In theory. Can we go off the record now . Reporter laughing . This is art, mr. White. Actually its just basic chemistry but thank you, jesse. Im glad its acceptable. Reporter its all a long way from cranstons youth where instead of hoping to play a drug king pin some day cranston actually envisioned being a cop. He even joined the l. A. P. D. s Police Explorer program. Low and behold i come out and i graduate first in my class. It was like, oh, i guess thats what im going to be doing is police work. Reporter until, that is, he took an acting class on a whim. From then on, the only badge he wanted was to be a working actor. I used to load trucks downtown los angeles, graveyard shift. The only thing that really got me through was just day dreaming at some point somewhere along my path im going to be able to say i make a living as an actor. Reporter he knew from experience the road would be tough. Both his parents were actors. A difficult life. By the time he was 12, they had divorced. He was left to be raised by his grandparents. My dad had, you know, an upanddown career as an actor. But as a child, you dont really have anything to relate it to. So you just assume that everybody goes through this life. It wasnt until much later that i realized, oh, those were trying times. Reporter you never set your sights on being a star. You set your expectations on just being a working actor. I think. I mean, to reach for some kind of plateau or position at the end of a rainbow, so to speak, i think is setting yourself up fo failur. I always smile when i hear im going to give a year. Im going to give it a solid year. I said i can save you a lot of time. Go back to where you came from and look for something that can make you happy. Reporter for 20 years cranston was happy, mostly. He built an astonishingly long resume usually in the background. Everything from air wolf. This startedded out to be just a simple kidnapping. Now its a comedy. Reporter . To murder she wrote. Fascinating. Sounds like a plot for one of your mysteries, mrs. Fletcher. Reporter but it was playing Jerry Seinfeldsconi dentist tht really got cranston noticed. It reminds me, did you hear the one about the rabbi and the farmers daughter . Those arent matzoh balls. Reporter turns out he had a knack fornr comedy. Soon he was starring in his first lead role as the quirky dad in foxs malcolm in the middle. Ive wanted to turn my fruit. Up wanted to trade my fruitup for a strawberry one. Reporter there were a lot of roles that you turned down, right . Right. Eporter it was because you had doneni that. Right. Eporter i loved that character and always will. But it was time to move on. And i didnt want to be in a safe place. I needed and wanted to go into a different area. Reporter hes still not content with being safe. Despite acclaimed appearances in drive, contagion and last years oscar winner argo. Six americans get caught playing movie makebelieve with the c. I. A. At the airport and executed its a national embarrass many. They are calling the operation. Reporter cranston is now turning from the screen to the stage. His new challenge playing president lyndon b. Johnson. And he had a way of talking that was good old boy and comforting. But when he got angry you knew it. Reporter from president s to thugs, Brian Cranston has indeed found his place in the world. At age 57, he says he still feels like a kid. To this day when i drive on to a studio lot, i just smile because, look at this. Look what i get to do. Reporter even now . Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Youve got to love to do it and i love it. Its my miss stress. I will have an affair with acting for as long as i can. Reporter and your wife is okay with that. Its the only misstress shell let me have. Osgood coming up . Although its not always true that pictures dont lie, even a staged photo can sometimes reveal a larger truth. Steve hartman has a good example. Reporter 45yearold Richard Rinaldi is is looking for someone two someones actually. Two total strangers who were meant to be together. This is dominic. Reporter if only for a moment. So you guys are going to be a couple. Theyre not exactly sure what theyve just signed up for. People are a little nervous at first. I just need you a little closer like, okay, good. Reporter richard is a new york photographer working on a series of portraits. For each shot he grabs strangers off the street like jenny wood an Airline Employee from virginia and dominic tucker, a College Student from brooklyn and poses them like adoring family. Beautiful. 1, 2 and 3. Reporter richard calls the project touching strangers. He started shooting it six years ago and now has hundreds of portraits of these unlikely intimates. Some of the photos youd never know they had never met. While others capture quite well the inherent awkwardness of cuddling some random dude. Even when the subjects seem eager, their body language has a certain hesitance at least at first. 10 minutes later its like thanksgiving at aunt margarets. Thats the really weird thing. Reporter richard puts the people in these poses but the sentiment that seems to shines through is real. At least so say the subjects. It was sort of awkward but then sort of not. You guys are so good. We are probably missing so much about the people all around us. Reporter at first brian smeed, a poetry teacher saw no rhyme nor reason posing with the 95yearold retired fashion designer. Can you come in like a little more. Reporter but eventually he too felt a change. I felt like i cared for her. Reporter cared for her . Yes, i felt that way. Reporter pretty much everyone shared that same sentiment. It was nice to feel that comfort. Everyone seems to come away with kind of a good feeling. Its kind of lovely. Its lovely. Reporter most photographers capture life as it is. These strangers Richard Rinaldi has captured something much more elusive. He shows us humanity as it could be, as most of us wish it would be. And as it was, at least for this one fleeting moment in time. Osgood just ahead. That georgiayness right there, that is the sign of an absolutely delicious Grilled Cheese sandwich. ,,,,,,,, ndwich lovers everywhere are experiencing a meltdown. Just ask bill geist. Reporter the Grilled Cheese, humble, simple and inexpensive has never sought the spotlight. Suddenly Grilled Cheese mania is sweeping the nation. Really. cheering . I declare the 2013 Grilled Cheese invitational officially open. [ cheers and applause ] reporter the modest sandwich is treated like a rock star during a recent appearance at the Grilled Cheese invitational in los angeles. We all love Grilled Cheese as you can probably tell. Reporter where some 6,000 rabid fans absolutely ate them up. Yum. Amazing. Its so good. Reporter the main event that these lactose indulgent people came to see was the cookoff. Cheese, cheese, cheese. Reporter for 150 entrants from throughout the country competed for best Grilled Cheese. Cries of hot cheese filled the air. Hot cheese reporter calls for runners to take samples to judges and to the teeming masses. Its definitely the American Idol of Grilled Cheese. Reporter hard to believe tim walker started this cheeseapalooza11 years ago in an apartment with some friends. Were going to have at least, i would say, somewhere between 30 and 40,000 Grilled Cheese sandwiches will be eaten on this very spot. Reporter there are four categories in the competition. Theres the american style which is white bread, orange cheese and butter. No additional ingredients. Reporter how do you stand out in that category . Grilling akeumen. Reporter i would call this category real Grilled Cheese. Just like mother used to make. The next category is the missionary category. Any type of bread, butter and cheese but no additional ingredients. Reporter like this entry by paul who journeyed some 3,000 miles for the event. Local North Carolina breads, the cheddar pumpkin seed bread with double cheddar up side. The third category is the anything goes category. Reporter when tim says anything goes he isnt talking about adding a slice of tomato. Roasted plumb tomatoes, braced leaks, crispy bacon, a horse radish cream sauce, Thyme Infused Olive Oil and sourdough. And the honey pot is the dessert category. Any type of bread, butter and cheese plus additional ingredients that are sweet. This is a little bit more butter. Reporter you dont spare on the butter. Im not a big fan of sparing on anything. Reporter los angeles chef Eric Greenspan who has won the invitational has Grilled Cheese on the upscale menu the foundry. This is the Grilled Cheese restaurant. Reporter and hes building a Grilled Cheese grawnt. Others have already opened Grilled Cheese restaurants in several cities like this one in new york. Is this your piece resistance. It is for sure. Reporter greenspans signature Grilled Cheese is called the champ. That gooiness right there, that is the sign of an absolutely delicious Grilled Cheese sandwich. Raisin walnut bread and a stinky cheese oven dried tomatoes, arugula and then, for giggles, we put on chopped beef short ribs. Reporter delicious. I dont know if its a Grilled Cheese sandwich. Dont start. Reporter jeff bristles with purists who cant change with the times Grilled Cheese wise. Is it tasty . Has it got melted cheese on it . Anybody who sits there who will come to a Grilled Cheese restaurant and be like, this isnt a Grilled Cheese, youre not getting it. Is it a Grilled Cheese sandwich . I dont know. Its delicious. Eat it. Reporter back at the invitational. Hes won the peoples choice awards. Reporter . Dave sold about 3,000 of his cheesy mac and rib sandwiches from his Grilled Cheese truck. Why is Grilled Cheese suddenly the it sandwich . The economy goes bad people go right to comfort food. This is the epitome of comfort food. Reporter could you do the same thing with bee nut butter and jelly. Theres a Peanut Butter and jelly truck out there now. Reporter life is like a river and a box of chocolates. But life is also like a Grilled Cheese, simple and satisfying. This is a tiramasu Grilled Cheese. Reporter it becomes ever more complex. Yummy. Osgood next. Lets put our money where our mouth is. Isnt it time for some lady dollars. Osgood faith salie on money matters. ,,,,,, osgood its been said that women dont care whose face is on paper money as long as they can get their hands on it. If that ever was true it isnt anymore. Our contributor faith salie has some thoughts on the subject. Recently the bank of england announced that jane austin, the 19th century author of sensibly romantic and hopelessly witty novels such as pride and prejudice and emma will the next face of the 10pound bank note. A woman on a popular piece of Paper Currency . Such sense and sense ibt on the part of the english. Here in the colonies, a woman has appeared just once on a paper bill. It was Martha Washington who got her mug on a dollar in 1886. Only three other women have ever hit the jackpot. Susan b. Anthony, sack. Wee a and helen keller. All of them have been segregatedded to coins which are smaller in stature and, lets face it, jangly and annoying. We americans like to say our country is modern, inclusive. So lets put our money where our mouth is. Isnt it time for some lady dollars . Some folks expect Hillary Clinton to be the first woman president which should surely earn her a bill. A bill shes not married to, that is. Lets not wait until 2016. Here are some other candidates. If we take a page from england and choose a writer, why not abolitionist harriet beecherstowe who pennedded Uncle Toms Cabin or edith wharton. And poet Emily Dickinson or maya angelou. You created only a little lower than the angels have crouchd too long in the bruising darkness. Reporter women who bucked the system deserve a buck. Hair yet tubman who escaped slavery to become a union spy and conductor on the underground railroad or victoria woodhole, the first female president ial candidate or rosa parks or gloria design em, a feminist who could rock a bunny suit. When it comes to noteworthy american women, our cups runneth over. Which brings me to my favorite pick. Dolly parton. When a man loves a woman he cant keep his mind on nothing else its sunday morning on cbs, and here again is charles osgood. Osgood that classic when a man loves a woman was a hit for Michael Bolton in 1991. Bolton has written quite a few hits of his own over the years as Martha Teichner reminds us in this summer song. Reporter if i say the name Michael Bolton, theres a good chance youll think. How can we be lovers if we cant be friends reporter . The hair. On his way to selling 53 million singlingals and albums. You say you cant go on. Reporter to winning two grammies. To reaching music super stardom, his trademarks were that voice. Singing love songs. I love you reporter and the hair. This is more than i feel inside it became my look. Probably a good 50 million to 100 million in marketing that was spent on establishing my appearance. Reporter how he came to cut his hair is is just one of the stories he tells in his recent memoir. Was it traumatic . It was traumatic, yeah. It was like a part of my childhood and my rebellion and everything i went through to wear long hair. Reporter born Michael Bolotin in new haven, connecticut, in 1953, his rebellion was pretty dramatic. After his parents difficult divorce, he lost himself in music and dropped out, literally, at age of 14. He didnt go to high school. Instead, he hitchhiked to california with a band. Then he became a hippy, singing for change in greenwich village. I was so in love with music. The one primary, consistent element throughout it all was this first passion that i was born with and that i held on to. Reporter he signed a record deal at 15, or rather his mother had to sign it for him. The first of six over the next 18 years that all failed to turn him into the rock star he wanted to be. Bolton was broke with a wife and three daughters. Facing eviction. There were times during in connecticut when i would gig if it snowed the clubs would close and you would get a phone call from the agent who said sorry but friday night is off. It doesnt do you any good to say, yeah, but we have to eat. I have to feed my family. Youre the end of the rainbow reporter what finally saved him were commercials. I could hardly believe it when i heard the news today reporter how am i supposed to live with you a number one hit for Laura Branigan in 1983 was lifechanging for Michael Bolton. Tell me, how am i supposed to live without you . Reporter colombia, boltons record label, gave him a piece of advice. Forget rockandroll. Sing your own songs. Dont give them to everybody else to turn into hits. You have just walls of records around this room. The result . Its all over the walls of it basement. Whats the most one record of yours ever sold . 14 million. Worldwide. Reporter wow. Hes written or could written more than 220 songs. Sitting in the morning sun reporter and other classics written and made famous originally by somebody else. His fans love him. The critics love to eviscerate him. Everyone finds a gem that is just. Theres just something so great about it, you want to step up to the microphone and sing it. The beatles did it. It really felt unfair. It felt harsh and brutal at times. Reporter and when he dared to sing the world famous opera with pavarotti and record his own collection of opera arias, the response from critics was again harsh. Now it just steals the show every night. Reporter is that the last laugh . For me it is. We would practice down here. Reporter Michael Bolton really likes to sing, more than anything he says.
