Problems of racial and gender bias in artificial intelligence algorithms and the data used to train large language models like ChatGPT have drawn attention. However, these issues also arise in social robots, a subfield of robotics called socially assistive robotics. These robots, designed to interact with diverse groups of people, are already being utilized to help individuals with autism, special needs children, and stroke patients.
