STEVENS POINT - Portage County officials confirmed Thursday the county will issue a local emergency order requiring face coverings after the state Supreme Court threw out the state's mask mandate.
County Executive Chris Holman announced in a news release a local order would come in ensuing days but didn't specify a date.
Last month, Holman said the county would step in to fill any void created by the state Legislature or courts vacating Gov. Tony Evers' emergency orders aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
The Wednesday 4-3 ruling did not limit the authority of local governments to issue emergency health orders.
